but first new at 6:00, police and school officials are still trying to figure out who's behind a twitter page filled with gossip from students from several bay area districts. it was inappropriate and graphic and some say the gossip boarded on bullying. and claudine wong tells us what she found out when she started asking questions. >> reporter: we pulled it up and started making some calls. just within the last couple of hours that twitter page was actually taken down after police and school officials got involved. most of what's on this twitter page is inappropriate. with references to sex and rape. the page named ghetto gossip g. those followers appear to be students from high schools in benecia, vallejo and american

county. >> wow >> reporter: we showed it to board member andre stewart. >> the kids are being picked on. i don't see a lot of back and forth. >> reporter: it does use first and last names and references specific schools. none of the school districts or police departments we called had heard about it but when we told benetia pd they started identifying students who posted on the page and talked about them and their parents. >> there were several students that our officers, our sro spoke with upon meeting with their parents. the parents had no idea that their kids had a twitter account. >> reporter: officials in napa valley said after our call they called a staff meeting and said sometimes we have to educate our students. we tried tweeting the owner of the page. by late this afternoon that page had been taken down. >> we have received information

that potentially this site was begun by a benetia student, we look into that fact. >> reporter: police are not sure if a crime was committed or if this could be considered cyber bullying but they will be watching. even though you get rid of this page, you don't get rid of the problem. claudine wong, ktvu news. we are following breaking news right now out of chile where a major earthquake hit off the coast. coastal areas of chile are being evacuated right now in case of a tsunami. you're looking at live pictures right now from chile. we're still waiting on word of damage or injuries. the quake struck just before 5:00 our time. the epicenter is 65 miles from a gulf town.

and no alert has been issued for hawaii or our coast at this hour. >> we do know this was felt in near by countries of bolivia and peru. we're working to get more information, we have no confirmation about deaths or injuries. as soon as we get more information we will bring it to you. we are on storm watch tonight no matter where you were today you probably experienced this. boy the rain was really coming down today. our meteorologist rosemary orozco is in the weather center where she's been following the bands of heavy rain that have been passing through. >> it is widespread at this hour. you spoke about very active weather going on. i have hail reported in areas like half-moon bay, concord, o rinda, hillsboro. tracking rain and lightning with the possibility of rain. it looks like it has begun to

shift out of your area. but lightning reported in this area as well as the possibility of pea sized and perhaps even marble size hail. it's now shifting into the central valley and we'll continue to work east over the sierra. if i move to the south bay, we've got light showers to moderate rain reported in areas right near campbell, santa clara, san jose. but it is just widespread and it is going to be a messy evening drive home. already is, you can see we've got our bridges completely wet. the peninsula, the east bay. i want to shift to the north bay because i do see our break going on right here. now beginning to slip a little bit closer to santa rosa. so the steady rain will begin to taper off. but the scattered showers and the possibility of thunderstorms will continue throughout our evening hours as the center of our circulation continues to trek closer to the bay area. so i'll be tracking it for you over the course of tonight's news and into the evening hours. and then, we will finally dry out. we will show you that futurecast model and when you

can finally put your umbrella away, coming up. and our crews have been following the impact of tonight's storm. ron tka -- robert handa is joining us now. >> reporter: you can see the rain is coming down pretty hard right now. we have seen a lot of rain lately over the past week. it's a boost to our water supply but can create some dangerous situations. >> several days of rain has the guadalupe river flowing again. a welcome sight in this drought. vanessa can't get enough of the wet stuff, unless when she's out driving. >> i love the rain. i do. but it can cause some accidents like when driving. >> reporter: moments after a driver lost control, crashed and ended up facing the wrong way against the center divide. a california highway patrol unit slowed traffic down and checked on the driver as well as another driver who stayed

after almost being hit. both had minor injuries. the cause -- >> yes it was weather related as well as tire ware related. the driver ended up slipping and hitting the wall. she checked her tires and they were very worn. >> reporter: some mountain communities such as boulder creek, trees and big limbs came down from the rain. >> it came down really hard when it hit the house. you can feel it. the rain was really hard. what we have here is 160-foot tall redwood tree. probably 180-year-old tree that started knocking branches off of redwood trees going through the house. breaking the railing so the people hired us to come and cut all the branches so it doesn't hit their house again. >> reporter: we were learning or being reminded of lessons in dealing with these wet conditions today. so that could help people deal

with this hopefully ongoing storm. live in san jose, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. marin county is the first in line to catch the bands of rain coming in off the pacific. and noelle walker is in san rafael. hard to tell, is it still raining out there noelle. >> it is still raining. it's a light rain, varied between sprinkle and downpours. some where around 3:00, to 3:30 this afternoon, we have not head near enough rain this season but what we're getting is really greening up the hillsides and pastures pretty quickly. that is welcomed with open arms by ranchers who had a tough go of it this year. rancher lewis has 40 head of cattle. he told me he made the decision not to thin his herd and he has been paying double the cost to bring in feed for his herd.

>> hopefully the price is good. if it stays up it'll pay off in the summer. it does help tremendously for the pasture so it will cut cost. >> reporter: so the rain soaked parts of marin county today including novato where it just poured. and there was a little bit of snowfall, but that melted as soon as it hit the ground. the head lights are coming into marin county right now. it is a wet commute, everyone if it's not raining where you are it probably has rained recently. remember those roads are still wet and also remember if you have your windshield wipers on you are supposed to have your head lights on, it's the law. reporting live in san rafael, noelle walker. ktvu viewers have been sending us pictures of the storm's hitting your neighborhoods. this picture was sent by jill.

you can see the hail on her windshield this morning. the snow survey was delayed until today in the hope that this latest storm would help the snow pack. we'll check the reports. more water restrictions are headed our way and also we'll check back with our meteorologist rosemary orozco to see how long these storms are going to stick around. new at 6:00, an update to a story we first told you about last night. police in pleasant hill have made an arrest in connection with a home invasion robbery sunday night. investigators released this sketch yesterday and today they arrested david allen danzel. he robbed a home in santa lucia drive, and tied up the two women who lived there. a woman and her 83-year-old mother. police tell us that he seemed apologetic and seemed concerned about the older woman. he will face charges of false imprisonment and elder abuse. he's being held on nearly $8 million bail. we have more details now on

that breaking news we told you about last hour. excuse me, federal charges filed within the hour against pg & e in a deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. >> the san bruno explosion in september of 2010 killed eight people, injured dozens and destroyed 38 homes. today a federal grand jury indicted p g & e on four counts. they included failure to fix the problems once they were aware of it. pg & e could face a $500,000 fine for each violation. san francisco supervisors are taking a second look right now at the city's controversial private commuter buses. opponents say what's known as the google bus should be the subject of an environmental study. it would allow companys to use

an update now on that breaking news out of chile. the earthquake that hit just before 5:00 our time has now been upgraded to 8.2. they've also had an aftershock that measured 6.2. you get a sense here of what's going on in chile at this hour. these are live pictures. the coastal area of chile. the coastal areas of chile are being evacuated. so far no tsunami warning but they're evaluating any threat to hawaii or the west coast here. we're working to get more information and we'll keep you updated both on air and online. new at 6:00 in the past hour we've learned the identity of a young man who was shot to death at a home in terra hills. and now we're learning there may be a link between the victim and the gunman. we don't have many victims. but investigators are just now starting to put the pieces together. the man's body was found inside

a home in an unincorporated area near pinol. patti lee just spoke to investigators and joins us now live with what she learned. >> reporter: here is what we know now the victim is nicholas callon from pinol. according to investigators he knew the person who shot him. this house on corneliuos street is empty today but from 3:00 in the afternoon until midnight it was surrounded by yellow tape and officers looking for answers. >> it was busy last weekend. there was a lot of kids there. so, i'm not sure what was going on up there but i'm not too happy there was a murder on our block. >> reporter: neighbor, terry meher says a couple with two children moved in. >> we would see them come and go. mainly just young people around the age of 18 to probably around 24. different vehicles, never got to know them. >> reporter: the spokesman for the contra costa sheriff

department says what -p -- happened here was not a random crime. that the victim and suspect knew each other but he would not identify the presumed shooter who has not yet been arrested. the sheriff's department will not elaborate on what happened at this home or how the victim and suspect knew each other. but they do tell me that the shooter is not a threat to others who live in this neighborhood. of course that is a small comfort to them given that they are just looking for explanations and answers. reporting live in pinol, patti lee, ktvu news. a string of six drive by shootings in five day has police looking for possible investigations. the most recent happened yesterday at 5:15 in the evening near brawn avenue. one person was wounded but is expected to recover. another person suffered minor injuries possibly from shrapnel

when he was shot at while walking on mesa drive early saturday. there have been no arrests in any of the cases. within the next few hours, the city of mountain view is expected to move forward with a plan to declare a water shortage emergency despite all the rain we've had. under city rules, a stage one emergency can be called when the city faces a 10% water shortage. such a declaration would allow city staff to step up efforts to promote existing conservation programs. it would also authorize expanded efforts to educate the public about prohibited nonessential water uses such as washing a vehicle with a running hose. a series of march showers has not helped out the watershed content. right now it's only at 32% where it's usually at its peak this time of year. that means california is facing its third consecutive dry year and water officials are warning this summer will be tough. the last snow survey is set for

may 1st. the higher elevations are expected to get 2 feet of fresh powder by tonight. chains were required earlier today on some of the mountain passes but we checked with caltrans and right now there are no restrictions on highway 60 or interstate 80. take a look at this time lapse video of the storm coming in taken from our highway 4 camera. there was sunshine at noon when the video starts. then the storm cells moved in. look at how dark those clouds were. dumping heavy rain across contra costa county. a very active day around the bay area. and we are seeing it just in time for the afternoon drive. it is very slick out there. and it is widespread. take a look at storm tracker 2. you can see we have rain. moderate to heavy at times but it looks like at this point it is now shifted into the central valley right around fairfield and to the east. as we get into the south bay,

we are picking up light to moderate rain areas like santa clara and san jose. but all our highways are shifting at this hour. from the coast across the peninsula into the east bay. and beyond. to the north bay i want to show you that we are beginning to see a bit of a break here. if we go north of santa rosa you can see the heavy rain beginning to spread here. we will continue for the showers as the system continues to work its way through the bay area and finally out of our way by tomorrow. but here's a look at some of that snow still falling. snow levels right about 4,000 feet at pollock pines. so started earlier this morning but have lifted just a bit. i want to show you the water vapor imagine. it's a little easier to see how it continues to send those bands our way.

with this system, the center of it we get the most unstable air. and the coldest air and that explains why we had such exciting active weather going on. totals so far today, we're looking at any where from .5- inch to one inch. we're looking at the possibility of two to three inches between yesterday and today. getting into this evening at this hour, 7:00, 8:00 notice scattered showers in the roadway. back up just a little bit you can almost see the rotation going on and it finally pushes south. notice the time stamp reading 8:00 in the morning, 40s and low 50s at this hour. as we get going tomorrow morning. it's going to get really cold in parts of the north bay. into the afternoon it's going to be a cold day. upper 50s to low 60s but we'll be dry and we'll have sunshine. thursday will be dry as well. then we're talking about the

prize in sa -- sacramento. buckston says he is a senior citizen. this lottery winner is the sixth largest power jackpot in history. he says he plans to travel and set up a charity focused on child health and education. he has also quit his job. 429million. tiger woods is going to miss the masters. >> the surgery that's taking him out of the tournament next week in augusta.

again sometime this summer. woods who is four shy of nicholas's records sent this tweet today expressing his regrets and thanking his fans for their support. during his playing days, he was considered one of the toughest guys in the game that makes what happened the last night in anaheim even more freaky. don haler was receiving the first pitch from vladimir guerrero. baylor somehow tweaked his right leg so severely that he fractured his femur. baylor who is 64 underwent surgery today. we've all seen these, the fans attempting the half court shot at halftime. this was friday night in phoenix. the shot was good for $77,000 and the fan was a guy named tim bolvin. you make a shot like that and you get everybody's attention even the players. he also give it is guy on the mic a career moment. tonight's a's game has been rained out.
