officer visited repeatedly to get prescription drugs. >> reporter: we have learned the officer who is part of the canine unit has been paid administrative leave for several weeks now. tonight we introduce you to a woman who gave him her prescription medication. >> he is a wonderful police officer. >> she said he is a good man. >> take him off the road -- [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: a trusted officer who was always nice to her. >> just asked me if i was taking it and i said yeah. he wanted to borrow some. >> reporter: he borrowed her drugs on several different occasions. sometimes coming with his canine partner and other times with his family. >> he brought his little boy over. when he would come over to borrow pills. >> reporter: police chief says it is an administrative issue

and couldn't go into details but said he was put on paid leave since february and being investigated for illegally obtaining prescription drugs. [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: another person said he also obtained her medication. he kiddant feel he should go to jail -- didn't feel he should go to jail. >> i didn't sell him anything. i gave them to him. >> reporter: contra costa county district attorney say the charges are pending and they could be file any day. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. we continue our coverage of breaking news. authorities shot two suspects this afternoon, one behind a walmart store and the other at an apartment complex across the street. it began when members of a task force were trying to arrest a

suspect in an attempted homicide. authorities say the man had a gun and they shot him. half hour later task force members tried to arrest another suspect, he also had a gun and he was shot as well. there is no word on the conditions of the two suspects. none of the federal task force members were injured. police and federal agents are still on the scene investigating. a cub scout leader is under arrest, suspected of child molestation. the 40-year-old was the leader of tack 128. -- pack 128. debora villalon got us this photo. lee faces three sex crime charges. we have a crew gathering more information and we will bring you a live report on the 10:00 p.m. news. the fbi is looking for help identifying this man. he provided clues to his identity in a sex video

lights didn't come on. air traffic controllers diverted flights. 20 minutes later crews were able to turn on the light said manually from the ground. >> only 5 aircrafts had to be redirecteddirected. >> officials they they are trying to figure out the problem. if it happens again tonight they are prepared to manually turn on the lights. newly married father who just finished a shift was shot and killed on his way home from work. ktvu's noelle walker joins us now in san jose where she is learning more about the young man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> reporter: we talked to people here in the neighborhood who heard gunfire this morning. police came to check it out but they didn't find anything. they didn't see the car here on the corner or see a man slumped over there. his wife found him two hours

later and called 911. >> i was awoken by the sound of gun shots -- sound of gun shots. >> gun shots. >> reporter: people live under the threat of violence daily. >> this neighborhood is not very good. >> reporter: today that threat became all too real for the family of the 27-year-old. found shot to death in his car. >> just don't know why this happened. >> reporter: he is a san jose native. he just come home from working the grave yard shift. >> we was at the wrong place at the wrong time. maybe wrong color car. >> police call this a blue neighborhood, the color of the gang that operates here. the shooter is one in a string of shoot -- string of shootings in a week in a half. the family says he has no gang

fall after being shot twice in the back. >> san jose police have taken over the investigation from university police. the shooting was the first in the history of san jose state university police. police are asking for your help to catch a man wanted on a robbery warrant. they released this picture. he committed a armed robbery in oakland and known to hang out in oakland. piece of jewelry stolen 20 years ago is being returned to the owner. police say they recovered dozens of stolen jewelry inside a vehicle during a traffic stop in february. investigators say after alerting the public the owner of the bracelet was identified. the bracelet was stolen during a burglary in san jose 20 years ago. investigators want to return the other pieces to their owners. police are asking people who recognize the jewelry posted on

attack the tied foundation and the aclu in hopes of starting a riot. when chp pulled him over the battle started. neighbors are shocked after reports a 30-year-old man was tied up, pepper sprayed and robbed yesterday afternoon. the victim said one of the two men had a gun. neighbors are paying attention to police warnings to be careful. >> it could always happen again in this neighborhood or somewhere else. there are lot of kids in the neighborhood. it is scary. >> they made off with cash and julie. police are asking anyone who has information to call them. people in one san jose neighborhood are fed up with a copper thief so they are taking matters into their own hands.

the thief stole wires three times in the last four weeks. neighbors focused their surveillance cameras on the sidewalks and street lights to catch the thief and it worked. the man road up and cut the wires to every pedestrian light on the street. neighbors then called san jose police and the department of transportation. they also gave the thief notice they were watching. >> we put these signs in there that say, you know, we are paying attention. we caught you here in the middle of the act and it worked. >> the thief did see the notices because the day after the last theft he brought some of the wire back. new at 6:00 p.m. as ecigarettes gain in popularity there is a new health risk posed to those who don't smoke. calls to poison control spiked as ecigarettes are more widely

used. ktvu's cara liu spoke to an official what is dangerous for children. >> reporter: just how dangerous this can be for children who are too young to know how to light up. take a look. numbers released by the cdc show in september 2010 poison centers across the country averaged one call a month about ecigarettes. february 2014, that number sky rocketed to 215 call as month. we checked with poison control in california, january 2013 to february 2014, they handled 147 calls about ecigarettes. more than half the calls involve young kids under 5 years old. estrest particularly dangerous because -- ecigarettes are particularly dangerous because they come in bright colors that are appealing to children. we spoke to a farmest who says -- pharmacist who says some of
