680, 24 and that will billion about 25 minutes. let's go back to the desk. we begin with a surprising story. vandals are targeting a certain make of car in san francisco. ktvu tara moriarty is joining us from the area where three separate incidents happened over night. tara. >> reporter: we are in the power tell low district where we saw a couple of officers leave about a half hour ago. they were investigating an incident with a car similar to this one. it was the third time that vandals struck this morning. this all started around 1:00 when a witness says a group of eight people came out of the dark and together lifted a smart car flipping it over. the first car targeted was in the bernal heights neighborhood. the second happened a couple blocks away on anderson and ogden. the last occurred here around 1:30. a witness says he saw a group walk up to his roommate's smart car. >> all of a sudden you see

eight hooded figures walk out from the corner and walk up to the car. i thought they looked like they were up to no good and sure enough they walk up to this smart car right here. all huddle around it and just lift it up and set it on its hind legs. >> reporter: the car sustained quite a bit of damage. many had windows that were shattered. we did talk to the sergeant at the bay view station but didn't find out in addition knew. we reached out to the media office. we'll let you know what we find out. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police are also investigating the death of a man crossing the street. it happened around 11:00 last night. investigators say a car struck a man while he was crossing the busy intersection. early reports indicate he was not in the crosswalk. the driver stopped and cooperating with police. seven people have now been

killed this year while crossing san francisco streets. four of those accidents were on vanness. police are vow,ing to re-- vowing to reduce the number of deadly speeding accidents. firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at a business complex in san jose. it happened shortly after 3:00 this morning on old bay shore highway. firefighters say several businesses are located in the complex. >> there is automotive stuff in there. there is a bunch of high pile storage. >> when firefighters arrived, they did locate workers in the building. they were evacuated but not seriously hut. happening today you will

have to pay more to -- for fast track users it's a little cheaper $6. car poolers will pay $4 but today's hike is just the beginning. the toll will rise by $25 a year for the next four years. parking changes in downtown walnut creek are also going into effect today. meter hours now run from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. instead of 9:00 to 5:00. the rate also doubling from $1- $2 an hour. park willing also be enforced seven days a week and that means sundays are no longer free. during the first two weeks of these rules, violators will be given warnings instead of citations. coming up in 25 minutes alex savidge is out in walnut creek. time is 4:34. today the family of a menlo

park woman missing on mount tam is expected to meet with investigators. she was last seen in surveillance video last sunday paying for parking at a state lot. after a few days, rangers noticed her car had not moved and began searching. they say it is a rental car and the front seat was full of groceries. >> there could be $100 different scenarios that could play out. we don't have that much information to go on. >> yesterday more than 100 search and rescue volunteers combed the mountain. they have about 20,000-acres to search. right now it's not clear what time the search is expected to resume today. park rangers say his family is flying in from maryland and she didn't have many friends in the bay area. a body found is being investigated as a homicide. a person walking near an open space made the discovery friday night. police have not released any details on the killing or the

victims identity. but they say there is no apparent threat to the community at this time. tomorrow people who live in the small coastal town of bodega bay decide whether or not to tax themselves or not. only about 1,000 people live in bodega bay but as many as 10,000 tourists descend on the community. and it's those tourists that are being rescued by firefighters. >> they fall off cliffs. they get washed out to sea. really they get until accidents on highway 1. >> we are first responders for the county parks and the state parks. and yet we have received no money from either one. >> now if measure a passes, homeowners will see their $500 a year district tax jump by $200. opponents say they are subsidizing emergency care for out of towners. san jose is taking a bold new step to try to stop police officers from moving to other

>> a candle light vigil is set for tomorrow. fairfield police are investigating a shooting that sent four people to the hospital. it happened around 10:30 on saturday night during a house party. witnesses say a fight broke out and someone started shooting. police say all four of the victims are now in stable

condition. this is the second shooting to happen in the area within a week. on thursday federal and local police shot and injured two brothers who police say are suspected of some drive by shootings. new this morning a dramatic moment in the murder trial of oscar pistorius. it happened just hours ago in a south african courtroom. >> i would like to take this opportunity to apologize to reeva's family. to those of you who knew her. >> we are just hearing him not seeing him because the cameras were not allowed to show pistorius' face as he took the stand. his testimony began with that emotional apology to reeva steenkamp's family. pistorius says he was only trying to protect her and thought he was shoots an intruder. prosecutor say it was a

premeditated killing. hundreds of people came out yesterday in support of the albuquerque police department. most of the crowd retired officers or family members of police officers. people who atepidded say police officers have a hard job and it's important for the community to stand behind them. now this is video of that protest. it followed the deadly police shooting of a homeless man. that shooting is now being investigated by the fbi. the justice department is also investigating the albuquerque police department and use of force. in the last four years there have been 37 police shootings. 23 of those were deadly. spring break celebrations turned violent in southern california. at least six law enforcement officers and dozens of partyers were injured over the weekend

after being hurt in a car crash that took the life of a four- year-old boy. it happened on state highway 121 and highway 12. now the four-year-old boy was killed. his mother seriously hurt. the child and mother were passengers in an suv. the chp says the driver 23-year- old flavio cross the the center line. he may have fallen asleep behind the wheel. >> no fatality is easy but when it involves young children it hurts that much more. >> the chp says the boy was strapped into a booster seat. everyone was wearing seat belts. she was taken to the hospital along with her husband. he was driving the lexus. they are both expected to survive. the 58-year-old chef a long

ukrainian security forces are are trying to keep control of several major cities in the eastern port of the country. pro russian demonstrators are storming clashing with ukrainian police. there are reports that gunmen have taken over government facilities. thousands of russian troops are currently stationed along the border with ukraine. >> time is 4:55. and a bench clearing brawl broke out at a charity hockey game between new york city police and firefighters. the fight started in the second period yesterday when the score was tied at three. the brawl led to a 25 minute delay as sticks and gloves were picked up and players were ejected. nypd went on to win. neither department is is commenting on the brawl. coming up next breaking
