norovirus is suspected in dozens of people in san francisco yesterday at a carnival cruise ship. a spokeswoman tells us 37 passengers reported coming down with a gastrointestinal illness believed to be caused by the highly contagious virus. the cruise lainer says the first -- liner says the first sign of the possible outbreak it immediately initiated enhanced sanitation procedures. we're told the ship was sanitized and wept back to sea with all the passengers on board including the ones who got ill. people in san francisco are being allowed back in their homes after a gas leak in the bay view district. pg&e says the contractor hit an eight inch main at about 9:45 this morning near jennings street. three homes were evacuated until crews capped the leak about 10:20. the utility says the repairs should be done later this afternoon. they are also reminding contractors and others to call

811 before they dig. the corruption case regarding suspended senator leland yee resumes today. ktvu's sal sal was there and -- sal castaneda was there and joins us live from san francisco. >> reporter: state senator yee keith jackson his old campaign manager and raymond shrimpboychoi were in court today. the two men who arrived had no comment for reporters outside. leland yee as you remember was indicted on a federal grand jury corruption and gun trafficking charge. about two weeks ago. his campaign manager keith jackson is accused of corruption, gun trafficking, and murder-for-hire. chow also known as shrimp boy was indicted on money laundering and other charges. chow did not enter a plea asking through his attorney for more time to review the charges. chow's attorney is well-known

1989 movie about a san francisco china town murder case in which he won an acquittal for the defendant. today, serra also announced that on thursday chow's family and friends are planning an event to speak on chow's behalf. in just over an hour, a concord police officer is expected to face a judge on charges he stole prescription drugs from elderly residents at a senior living home. k-9 officer matthew switzer resigned yesterday and now his arrest is calling into questions involving him as a witness. a public defender says his client was convicted in february february. switzer was never called to the stand because he himself was under a criminal investigation and on leave. >> my client was convicted without the jurors having this information, without the court having in information and -- this information and his recourse now is to ask for a new trial and me will do that.

>> now they are sifting throw thousands of cases that might have involved switzer and khalid to a retrial -- can lead to a retrial. there are still questions about how a fire got started in san jose. the fire department tells us the fire has been ruled accidental. based on information gathered so far. the fire started around 3:00 p.m. yesterday in an older designed home on moss berg circle. they are known for open air design and that also increases the fire danger. this fire burned fast spreading flames to the neighboring homes. investigators say the cause of the fire is unknown because fire crews had to use heavy machinery last night to move ill -- last night to move piles of moving debris -- debris. neighbors were concerned. >> it's like a bomb went off. and when it was burning yesterday, it looked pretty scary. my fence is just on the back of this house. we're out watering the fence

you know trying to -- until the firemen said go pack in your house. >> no one was injured. the red cross is assisting the displaced families. we're learning new information about a shooting at a los angeles police department building. investigators now say an officer was shot seven times after a man walked in and opened fire at 8:00 last night. two officers fired back critically injuring the suspect. it happened while a community meeting was being held at the police station. witnesses report hearing at least 20 shots. >> if an individual comes into a police station and starts shooting for no reason, we really don't know what this person is capable of. >> the officer who was injured is still in the hospital and is expected to survive. the gunman was last -- listed in critical condition. the officer who was injured is still in the hospital this morning and is expected to survive. the gunman was last listed in

critical condition. last june, a gunman ambushed two police detectives outside the same station. that gunman was never caught. and happening now, giants' fans are gearing up for today's home opener. the gates to the ballpark opened just other an hour ago and the giants host the arizona diamond backs. ktvu's alex savage is there and joins us there live. good afternoon alex. >> reporter: well, giants fans they are fired up for the home opener an hour and a half or so if right now. we're going to see arizona diamond backs at&t park already filling up with the diehard fans. these are folks all in line waiting for autographs this afternoon. a perfect day for baseball out here. it's sunny and warm and just beautiful. the giants also off to a fantastic start this afternoon and there's -- season and there's optimism in the air. >> opening gate program here. >> reporter: the buzz is building at at&t park today as

the giants get set for their first game of the season in front of the hometown fans. >> it's like christmas. it's great. it's -- i couldn't sleep. i'm ready for a great game today. >> reporter: as the sun came up this morning, the grounds crew was busy perfecting what already looks like a perfect field. every blade of grass trimmed just right. al true work of art. some of the jeeps' players schoep -- giants' players showed up early. outfielder plan koa is glad to be back home after starting the season on the road. >> we welcome everybody and this -- have a great opening day and let's one. let's win today and just have fun. >> reporter: so far so good for the giants, they're 5-2 after visits to arizona and l. a.. and they're sitting in first place in the nl west. >> very lightweight, very comfortable. >> reporter: today these fans have one thing on their mind. another championship ring. >> oh, you know we're number one. look at that two rings you know. and three years? and you know what?

savage. ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you alex. and here's a live look at the conditions at the bay bridge toll plaza. if you're trying to make your way to the giants' game right now. looks pretty heavy for the middle of the day. traffic slowly inching its way into the toll plaza and again first pitch still an hour away at 12:35. -- 1:35. giants fans are showing off the orange and black pride in photos this one was posted on our facebook page. by cindy hall davis. the kids obviously having a good time at the ballpark. and this little fan, already ready for some action. this picture was posted by viewer danielle mena and transcribe lawson just adorable. this little player has the right head gear along with the giants' colors. an alert cashier at grayton casino is being credited for ending an elaborate counterfeit credit dent card ring. sheriff's deputies arrested six people involved in the ring and investigators say they are accused of stealing active credit and debit card numbers

and then making counterfeit cards. after stealing thousands in cash, the suspects were caught trying to steal more when the cashier noticed some discrepancies. >> i went to the atm. got a voucher. the voucher they go up to the -- cashier to try to cash it. the cashier actually looked at the credit card. looked at the id. and noticed the credit card appeared to be counterfeit. they ran the magnetic strip and some -- the strip didn't work. >> investigators also recovered a couple of stolen cars and some drugs and a laptop computer with a card reader, and dozens of counterfeit cards the losses are estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars. now former secretary of state and potential 2016 democratic presidential candidate is here in the bay area right now. what hillary clinton is doing and how long she'll be in town. >> today will be slightly warmer inland and it's a tad cooler at the coast but

right now, hillary rodham clinton is kicking off a series of west coast appearances this week with a keynote speech in san francisco in about 15 minutes. the former secretary of state and potential democratic presidential candidate is scheduled to address the crowd at a marketing software conference. after the address, she will head to portland to speak to the world affairs council of oregon. and then she returns to the bay area on thursday to speak at a lecture series at san jose state. some angry parents are now debanding answers from the oakland unified school district. they say it took nearly two months for the district to tell them about a recent string of sexual assaults targeting elementary school students. investigators say the man shown in this sketch is responsible for three attacks involving three girls at three oakland elementary schools. the most recent was march 28th at bella vista elementary. >> what is the district? not necessarily my principal. but what is the district going to do to make sure that all of

voluntarily lost. we don't know if she's a victim of some foul play. but right now, she's just lost. >> her white rental car was impounded by the marin county sheriff's department and park rangers plan to search again tomorrow and have a larger search scheduled for this weekend. no more pings and still no sign of missing malaysia airlines flight 370 as the search continues in the indian ocean. on australian team using a u.s. navy pinger locator is hoping to hear the underwater pinging again from the plane's black box recorder. it did pick up a sickal over the weekend but they're no longer hearing it. there are concerns the batteries that power the pinger may soon run out. and they are certified to last for 30 days. the search is now entering day 33. >> we are trying everything -- throwing everything at this difficult complex task in these at least these next several

days. while we believe the two pingers involved are still active. >> australia's defense minister also says more than 130 search missions have been completed so far. in a state of washington, the official death toll has increased again. it's now at 34. that's one more than yesterday's count. the coroner ear office is still working to identify four of the dead. the sheriff's office says a dozen people remain missing from the march 22nd mudslide that buried homes about 55 miles northeast of seattle. the president is using executive order to tackle the gender wage gap. he signed orders requiring federal contractors to report how much they pay men, women and minorities. it will also allow women to talk about co-workers' salaries without the threat of getting fired. senate democrats also unveiled legislation that would require similar wage reporting for all employers.

francisco, numbers are up a few degrees. but if i point you to the coast, it is a cooler day. so we are beginning to see a traditional session and had patchy fog there this morning and it lingers at the coastline still at this hour. storm tracker 2 showing you no rain of course. but we have high clouds overhead and again the coastal clouds hanging really close to the coast with partly cloudy skies reported in and around half-moon bay. mostly sunny skies over santa cruz. we will see the changes so for today, the on shore breeze, the clouds trickling up against the coastline, by tomorrow. around the bray and our inland communities will also begin to feel that cooldown. he's a look at the system that will eventually work its way towards the coast. it's going to take a few days but notice all the clouds ahead of it. we will continue with the mix of clouds and again a stronger on shore breeze and the fog is on its way back. already seeing it in some areas. here's a look at what you can expect for today. upper 60s along the coastline. mid- to upper 70s around the bay and mid- to upper 80s for the inland communities, so far

uncanned land communities your -- inland communities your temperatures will be peaking today. even warmer than yesterday we're sort of flattening out around the bay area. and it's a cooler day at the coast as i said. 82 for nevada today. mid 70s for richmond and sausalito. 80 degrees for oakland. able 0 degrees for -- 80 degrees for castro valley and mid- to upper 80s in and around antioch and brentwood. 86 for gilroy and 80 degrees santa cruz. nice and warm there. 82 for palo alto. 80 expected in saab mateo and for the second half of the day mostly sunny skies will remain and a look at your extended forecast here. temperatures will begin to trail off midweek wednesday. again not cool but just not as warm and then that will continue as we get into the weekend with temperatures back to well about the seasonal average. 60s at the coast and upper 60s for the bay communities and the low 70s to mid 70s inland. unfortunately, no rain in the extended forecast. >> a bit of a shock to go to really sunny and warm. thank you. nearly 100,000 salmon are

on the way to the san francisco bay right now. today the california department of fish and wildlife biologists are transporting the young salmon by boat down the sacramento river and then releasing them into the bayment it's part of the five year steady -- bay. it's part of the five year study to find out if it increases the salmon's chances for survival. each fish is implanted with tags so sinetists can teach track of them. kanye is coming to san francisco. we'll show you the other big names just announced for a huge local concert this summer. >> plus the stance power couple makes a -- san francisco power couple makes a second multimillion dollar donation to support children's hospital. investors looking for buying opportunities after a three day selloff. technology stocks are among the biggest gain leaders. also just out today, u.s. employers posted 4.2 million job openings in february. that's the highest number of postings since january 2008 and good sign for the jobs market. taking a live look at the big board. the dow is up 9. the nasdaq up 31. and s&p up 5. say good-bye to microsoft support for windows xp. as of today they will no longer provide security updates for the software. experts say those still clinging to the 12-year-old operating system could be left vulnerable to cyber attacks. so microsoft is advising consumer still using xp to
