fog is coming back. cooler pattern. we had a pretty good warmup for a couple o ever days. 40s and 50s and it looks like some 60s. there is thick fog around the bay. sfo west at 14. we had a hint of an offshore. now it's more on shore. fog and it's definitely fog here. sun, cooler. thick fog. a couple very low 80s. 60s and more 70s. here is sal. all right, steve, good morning. we are off to a decent start here if you're trying to get into san francisco. most of the lanes are okay. one of the lanes on the far right seems to have a little bit of a backup. once you get on the bridge it looks good into san francisco. the drive time is about eight minutes or so. including the time on the bridge. this is a look at interstate 880 in oakland from the

coliseum to downtown. this drive time is less than five minutes. so if you are driving down to the coliseum exit, it should be a nice drive. we continue to look at 580 which is usually one of the earliest freeways to get a backup. this morning it's even early enough that you won't have one. the time 4:31 let's go back to the desk. we begin with breaking news. san jose police still on the scene of a deadly hit and run accident. a man was killed early this morning on capitol expressway. janine de la vega is joining us live from the crash scene with the very latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, brian. police have capital expressway here blocked off to traffic. it's closed up until smell avenue while they investigate. the body of a man is covered up. it's laying in the street. officers here are looking for anything that may lead them to the driver. just before 2:00 a.m., people driving by in the area spotted

a man down on capitol expressway and called 911. emergency crews arrived and he was pronounced dead at the scene. police were able to determine that the man had been hit by a car. they are look for anybody who may have witnessed the sent. they will be going around to nearby businesses to see if there is any security camera that exists. there doesn't appear to be a crosswalk where the man was hit. from where we are standing here, we can't tell if there are any remnants of a car here at the scene. the traffic investigation unit just arrived in the last 15 minutes to start collecting evidence and we line up date you as soon as we get some more information. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. meantime we have new details on pedestrian deaths in san jose. according to research compiled by the mercury news. 26 people were hit and killed by cars.

that is the highest total in 16 years and the most in the entire bay area. compare that to san francisco where there were 17 pedestrian deaths and oakland where there are seven pedestrian deaths in 2013. the city is taking steps to improve safety for people walking on city streets including 32 recently completed projects in the designed stage. relationship monday police investigating the body found. police say they were alerted by a shot spotter. investigators tell us the victim is a teenager. they also say it does not appear to be gang related or a robbery. this morning pleasant hill police looking for the armed robber responsible for a bold take over robbery. it happened last night at the verizon store. police say swab first into the

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. suspended state senator leland yee due back in federal court on friday. yesterday he plead not guilty to charges ranging from wire fraud to conspiracy to illegally importing weapons. he could spend the rest of his life behind bars if convicted. yee is keeping a low profile. however, it's a much different story for raymond chow. chow's lawyer legendary defense attorney tony sera says she is taking on the defense. >> this will be a vigorous it litigation. we will put the government rightfully on trial. >> chows charges include money laundering and illegal sale of weapons and liquor. more details on raymond

thick so be careful around the bay. i wasn't reducing visibility too bad. when fairfield gets a southwest at 17 that is the old delta breeze showing up. neither one of those were in place yesterday. yesterday i think travis had a little puff of an offshore. even inland areas will cool down. mostly sunny. 50 in ukiah. 54 reno. 60s to 50s southern california. just a lot of high clouds. a noticeable increase in the westerly breeze means a cooler pattern. fog, sun, cooler. thick fog out there. thick as thieves sometimes. breezy at times. some very low 80s. this will be a soft 80. 60 pacifica. 66 in san francisco. big difference compared to yesterday. the low will track all the way to southern california but it will probably really increase the fog friday into saturday. could even be a little drizzle there. >> once the fog clears out,

this morning you can see a large gap in the aldern span of the bay bridge. demolition teams are taking -- wood planks are where the old road bridge used to be. cal tran says we can expect demolition to pick up speed from here on out. it's expected to take three to five years to dismantle bridge. california lawmakers have postponed a bill that would phase out killer whales. now the bills author says he was inspired by the documentary. sea world and other parks argue the animals are treated humanely and we gain a lot of knowledge from them. the lineup for this year's outside lands music festival

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. there is a break involving an alleged theft at a san francisco coffee shop. the suspected crime was caught by a security camera. police have taken the person into custody. the surveillance video shows someone wearing a beanie and stripe shirt in a coffee shop. the person in the stripe shirt then picked up the items and left. surveillance video was distributed and it went viral. the alleged victim spoke out about the arrest on the channel 2 program right this minute.

>> it's courageous woman. person in the same clothes with the same beanie and everything walking down the street and she actually follows her into a starbucks coffee shop. >> police have identified the suspect as a 32-year-old transgender person named paul raynal. a judge in the patent case between apple and samsung has threatened to ban cell phones. wi-fi cig thats -- there have been interruptions by ringing phones and some people have been taking photos which is a violation of court rules. new information has surfaced about the san leandro metal recycling company where a propane tank exploded.

it was being cut down for scrap when it exploded. it turns out the company was cited and fined six times over the past ten years for various safety violations. those violations include failure to train employees on marine reand improper labeling. also today an oakland man faces six months in jail after being accused of defrauding california's recycling program. prosecutors say mario trucked 1800 pounds of aluminum cans from the state of washington to california to be redeemed. washington state does not have a crv federal. he program. recycling fraud has be a problem in california. the justice department statements the states recycling fund is defrauded of $40 million a year. the state is taking measures to

curb fraud. recycling center workers will also under go extra training. the city of oakland is considering a plan to install new safety barriers for bicyclists on telegraph avenue but some are opposed. oakland city officials could stall from 20th to 57th streets. but adding the barriers could mean losing a lane of traffic on some parts of telegraph. >> too much congestion. it would be too slow coming down. >> other east bay cities are also taking steps to better protect bicyclists. alameda is installing barriers on shoreline drive and berkeley and walnut creek are also considering adding safety barriers as well. three armed robberies in two days in the peninsula. the area being targeted and what each crime has in common. >> and call for police officers to wear body cameras. >> good morning. right now traffic is moving
