backup. only today you have the chance to buy the hottest accessory in the tech world. but some users are cautioning it comes with -- it comes with trouble, trouble that has nothing to do with the technology. >> reporter: and a top executive is accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from his own church. how prosecutors say he spent all that money. "mornings on 2" starts right now. you are looking live at the scene of a house fire where a family of nine people narrowly escaped this morning, including seven children. ktvu's janine de la vega has been on the scene since 4:30 this morning. janine de la vega will tell us more. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. steve is right over there.

>> we do have higher clouds. but the low clouds, which are in place, does not look like it will last too long. you can see to the north, mendocino county, sonoma county, clearing taking place. morning fog, pakistan, mostly sunny. sunny, breezy later on. today a few degrees cooler. fog bank definitely higher. with the north wind coming in, i don't think the fog will last too much longer at least to the north. onshore breeze is in place but it's terning more northerly. san jose, the low clouds will hold on for a while. mostly sunny. high of 75 degrees. you can see the higher clouds already moving pretty fast in the east and south. some low clouds still a lot to go around. with the north wind kicking in later, they will get chewed up. 50s on the temperatures. fairfield, had a good breeze for a while. a northerly breeze showing up in santa rosa. morning clouds, afternoon sunshine. highs today, 60s, mainly and 70s.

that morning fog, again, with us right now. but it will start to get wiped out here pretty soon. 60s to upper 70s. maybe a few 80s. here's sal. we're looking at a commute that's mostly clear except for one exception. as we get close to easter, some days have days off. a variety of institutions have time off and that will hopefully help us out with the commute. some areas have been lighter. this is a look at the commute on southbound 101 at tully road. we have a map of a fatal accident, a deadly crash, southbound 101 at tully, a vehicle flipped over. someone was killed as a result of the crash. northbound is backed up from blossom hill road until you past the scene. it is a distraction for drivers there.

7:03. back to the desk. new this morning, san jose firefighters say smoke alarms saved the lives of nine people this morning. this is cell phone video given to us from firefighters shot within minutes of arriving on scene. the fire started around 4:00 a.m. at a town house on moorings court. ktvu channel 2 reporter, janine de la vega, has been on the scene since the fire began and in the last 30 minutes learned the fire began in the garage. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. right now, some fire trucks remain on the scene at this town home complex. earlier this morning, smoke was rising from one of the ones. it's located in the back here off jackson avenue and san antonio road. the family right now is staying with a neighbor. they have a newborn and many other young children. here's some cell phone video we obtained showing how intense the flames were. when the fire first started at 4:00 a.m. on moorings court, it was

shooting out of the second floor. it started in the garage. firefighters say it spread quickly. they wereern canned because these -- they were concerned because these townhomes are close to one another. neighbors reported hearing pop sounds and evacuated. the woman who lives in the home that caught fire said she woke up to the sound of smoke alarms. >> mom stated she heard the smoke detector on the second floor. she was able to out. saw the smoke and woke up the other children and went down the stairwell in heavy black smoke and out the front door. smoke detectors saved lives. >> reporter: as you heard, the family got out and they were all uninjured. the children range in age from 6 weeks old to 15 years old. we're told they were renting the town home. it's unknown if they have renters' insurance but the red cross is on the scene to help provide them with food, clothing and shelter. we would like to see if they

would like to speak to us. their home is a total loss. we're told that the fire did spread to two other homes. it was just minor damage. some blackened walls. some blistering paint. but all in all, this family grateful to be a live. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. a football player is behind bars this morning accused of pulling out a gun during an argument at a minor league game in pacifica. it happened saturday afternoon. the game was between the pacific islanders and the sacramento capital city fury. one of the players from sacramento was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a firearm. police recovered the weapon and said it was stolen. a top executive at a.c. transit is phasing embezzlement charges accused of stealing more than $500,000 from his church. alex savidge is live in oakland with these allegations and

where that money may have gone. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, dave, good morning to you. to be clear, the charges in this case are not related to this man's work here at a.c. transit. the chief financial officer here instead is accused of stealing more than $500,000 from allen temple baptist church in oakland where he worships. we'll show you a photo of him. he went before a judge facing these charges. prosecutors say he spent that stolen money on everything from a luxury car to his kids' private school tuition to a golf club membership. clinton served on several boards of the church and prosecutors say those positions were used to steal church funds. he was board president of a church-run corporation that was set up to provide housing to low-income families. now, prosecutors say the embezzlement came to light back in 2012 when a bookkeeper noticed suspicious withdraws from a -- withdrawals from a

church account. clinton gets paid more than $200,000 as a.c. transit's cfo and is a trustee of the agency's retirement board. in light of the charges, he's been placed on administrative leave. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. the chp is investigating a deadly crash that witnesses say may have been caused by the victim. it was reported just before 7:00 last night on guerneville road near frye road in sonoma county. witnesses told police the driver of a mitsubishi eclipse was passing other cars. he lost control, veered into oncoming traffic and was hit by an suv. the driver of the eclimtion died -- eclipse died at the scene. two people in the suv were treated for minor injuries. the woman accused in a hit and run that killed an 82-year- old woman in san francisco is

due in court. police say the 31-year-old hit the woman in the crosswalk as visitation avenue and bayshore boulevard last month. witnesses say she made a u- turn, passed back by the scene and drove off. police arrested stubs last thursday after identifying her with the help of surveillance footage. a husband and wife, arrested after police say they drove to his court appearance in a stolen car. james manning and his wife teresa, they are facing charges of car theft and possession of a controlled substance. police say they were arrested after a car dealership in redding reported a stolen car. the car's gps indicated it was parked right in front of the tuolumne county courthouse. when police found the car, they say the license plates had been chanked. castillo told police they bought the car for $200. in the next 30 days, the ntsb will release a report about that deadly bus crash near chico. investigators say it will answer a lot of questions.

the crash happened last thursday when a fed-ex truck crossed the median and hit a charter bus. ten people, including five high school students, were killed. investigators say they recovered electronic control modules from the charter bus and the fed-ex truck that hit it. those modules are like a black box on a plane. investigators say the one from the truck was destroyed. but the one from the bus has important information on it. the driver of the fed-ex trucks has been identified as tim eve vance. the sacramento bee -- evans. the sacramento bee is reporting evans and the driver of the bus had clean driving records. they were both killed in the crash. blood tests were being performed.

have a bad day, we work 1, 13 hours a day. you -- 12, 13 hours a day. you would come in and she would say, let me give you a hug. >> besides her two children she leaves behind her grand son and a large family. a panel trying something to save the college. the officials say they don't have the power to give the troubled school more time to fix its many problems. so now they are considering a bold new plan that would avoid shutting down the college. under this plan, city college would use its accreditation but would keep its public funding by reapplying for new accreditation. that move would buy city college more time. the city of oakland may follow the lead of the nation's big sports stadiums and arenas.

the city is considering naming rights deals letting corporations buy the rights to name oakland's parks, gardens and recreation centers. those companies would have to pay and truce up the sites. this plan is directly cried to the budget crisis. the city doesn't have enough money to maintain the parks, athletic fields, tennis courts and swimming pools. one day only google is conducting an experimental promotion right now, offering everyone a chance to buy google glass but are consumers buying into the hype, the answer coming up in 20 minutes plus -- marking today's first anniversary of the boston marathon bombings. coming up next in a live report, you will hear from a survivor who says every day she has to battle to do something she doesn't want to do. if you are driving into

7:15. it's been one year since two pressure cooker bombs exploded near the finish line of the boston marathon. three people were killed and hundreds were injured. today, the city of boston is gathering to honor the emergency workers who responded after the blast. celebrate the strength of the survivors and also remember the victims. >> we're live in boston. tori, what is the mood like there in boston this morning?

>> reporter: tori and dave, it's sort of a mixed mood. some people having trouble waking up this morning. i've been reading through my phone. some of them tweeting -- [audio difficulties]. it was a typical boston marathon. not that different from years past. that is, until 2:50 in the afternoon. >> something just blew up! >> reporter: on april 15th, a pair of bombs exploded near the finish line. three people were killed. more than 200 others were injured. for survivors, the scars remain and the healing continues. >> if i let myself go down that path of feeling incredibly sorry for myself and in the fetal position and crying which i still have those days, if i stay there too long, i know he wins. >> reporter: right after the bombing, people from near and far placed sneakers and letters at a makeshift memorial. it became a place that truly

defined what it meant to be boston strong. those very mementos on display for the one-year anniversary. >> boston strong. we're still here. nothing will come between us. we're still here fighting. still running the marathons. >> reporter: signs the city is moving forward. the boston marathon's started a finish line got a face-lift just this week. the event is expected to bring thousands to the city. as a show of solidarity. >> it can't keep us down. these kind of events, these terrorist acts that keep happening, we need to rise above them and prove we're resilient and strong and we can create something good out of something so awful. >> reporter: run on and move on. >> i'm glad i live in boston. i'm glad the city came together the way it did and that, you know, love wins at the end of the day. love wins every time.

>> more details about the marathon, which will be run on monday, it will be the second largest in history. more than 36,000 people including runners from the bay area are pramp participating -- are participating. anyone who didn't finish last year was automatically entered this year. the largest marathon was in 1996. thousands of others who survived the bombing plan to be at the finish line at the race. that includes this guy. aaron hern of martinez. he was running his marathon run the marathon when the bombs went off. he suffered shrapnel injuries on both of his bodies. both his parents will run the marathon and he will be cheering them on. let's talk about traffic. can you take care of everybody,

sal? >> i can, dave and tori. >> okay. >> good morning. we're looking at a commute that for the most part has not had a lot of problems. we do have some slow traffic coming up to the willow pass grade on highway 4. it's mostly slow in pittsburg. a lot of traffic in antioch has moved on. once you get to 680, it's moderately avenue. moving along to the bay bridge toll plaza, it's been a steady, 20, 25-minute drive time getting across into san francisco. all right. southbound 101 at tully, we remain with a fatal crash. a deadly accident, southbound as you drive to tully road. this collision happened about an hour and a half ago. they are still doing an investigation. i want to move the maps over to southbound 880 in the east bay, between 238 and pockets down to the fremont area. it's better than it normally is. no major problems here in smast as you drive through -- san mateo as you drive through. 24 westbound from call -- from pleasant hill road to the caldecott, nine minutes.

and 880, from 238 san lorenzo to fremont, 19 minutes. back to steve. still low clouds around. plenty of that. there are some breaks. had a pretty good pickup on that fog this morning. but it looks like it will get chewed up by a northerly breeze coming in. morning clouds, afternoon sign. kind of a quiet pattern. warmer, cooler. cooler weather moves in. another system will brush narl for a cooldown. weekend looks quiet, nice. changes maybe next tuesday. a hint of some rain. cooler, no doubt about it. maybe three systems going all the way out to may 1st. we'll see if it comes together. that's what the forecast models are saying. nothing would surprise me anymore. nothing. the higher clouds moving east and fast. the clearing will win out. there are signs that it will lose out. we had an onshore breeze for a while. but the north wind is beginning

[ imitates robot ] everyone deserves ooey, gooey, pillsbury cinnamon rolls. make the weekend pop. a giant visiter has been spotted inside the bay. there's a warning to stay away. we obtained this video of the gray whale near the golden gate bridge. that's where a marine biologist saw the whale. he had his camera with him. he said only a few whales migrate into the bay each year as they head to alaska for the summer. >> we were surprised to see a whale under the bridge.

we see two or three maybe a year. that's because i spend a lot of time on the golden gate bridge. >> researchers say the whale appears healthy and may be exploring the bay out of curiosity. small boats must stay at least 300 feet away from the whale so it is not stressed. 7:26. search crews hope to send the u.s. navy's robotic submarine back down into the indian ocean today hoping that find that missing malaysian jets. the crews sent the submarine to the waters yesterday but it came back up after only six hours of searching when the water urn ited out to be deeter than expected -- deeper than expected. officials say there's a safety feature on the submarine that prevents it from going 15,000 feet under water. new information shows the copilot's phone was on even though it was supposed to be off in the cockpit.

and it stayed on after the plane disappeared. sources tell cnn that the copilot's phone was searching for service even after the flight's communications were mysteriously shut off. now the details also confirm the flight turned westward from its planned path and that that plane was probably flying low enough for a cell phone tower to pick up the phone's signal. 7:27. an alleged sexual assault at a quiet park in sausalito. the reason police say it is critical that a witness come forward even though the suspect is already behind bars. google is looking for bakers, mothers, rockers, and surgeons to try on their google glasses. we'll tell you how you can get your hand on the glasses and how much they will cost you. we have a look at the commute and traffic is getting busier all over the place. we'll take a closer look at this freeway and give you some

though it may look pretty tranquil this morning. one woman said it was the scene of a terrible attack. what she says happened to her and the reap police are searching for one particular witness even though they already have a suspect. good morning. welcome, one again, to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. i just ducked outside. steve, what do you think about our forecast? >> gray for most. >> okay. >> if you are near the coast and bay. a lot of fog, higher clouds. mostly sunny skies will win out here. a little hint of a breeze. 40s, 50s. mainly 50s. mostly cloudy. mostly sunny by noon. and then sunny, breezy, again, a westerly breezy way. some clearing taking place. the higher clouds are flying out of the picture. right at 50. oakland, 55. san jose, 54. decent breeze but again here -- this is a sign of things to come northwest, northwest. other areas are south orer

-- i'm sorry, southbound 880 traffic, i should say is slow from 238 all the way down to fremont. southbound 880 right near decoto road, there was a slowdown near stevenson. give yourself extra time as you drive that stretch. 7:33. back to the desk. >> all right, sal. for the first time today, google glass is for sale to anyone who lives in the united states who is 18 years old or older and you are willing to pay a hefty price. tara moriarty is live in san francisco where google glass, tara, it's already controversial. >> reporter: that's right. but you know, google says it basically needs guinea pigs. it's looking for everybody from mothers to surgeons to rockers to sign up on the website to get a pair of these glasses, test them out so they can try to perfect them before they hit the mass market. if you take a look. this is the website. it opened at 6:00 this morning. you basically have to fill out

all of the information. it asks you a bunch of questions about becoming a glass explorer. you have to be 18 years old. you have to be a u.s. resident and have a u.s. shipping address. now, google isn't saying how many pairs of the glasses will be available. they are different from the 10,000 sold to a select group of techies and contest winners. these ones have a thumbnail in the frame where the computerized images occur. the cost $1500. now, glass looks like a pair of specs. it can take pictures which has created privacy concerns. a woman was in a san francisco bar. she was demonstrating how glass works when someone snatched it. another weekend, one man had his ripped from his face while walking in the mission district. the thief smashed the glass on the ground. some say glass is a symbol of wealth. others say they may be resistant to the technology.

others say they are angry workers that google has moved into san francisco forcing long- time tenants out and driving up the cost of rent. if you are interested, this is a bun-time thing only -- one- time thing only and then they will hit the shelves and those should be a lot less pricey. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. the sonoma county sheriff's department is hoping that virtual reality can help prevent another deadly shooting like the one that killed andy lopez last october. police say he was carrying a toy gun that looked like it was real. the sheriff's department is asking for the virtual reality simulator to train them on the use of lethal force. deputies presented that idea last night to a community task force that was formed after lopez was killed. that device would prevecket images -- project images on screens giving dults a 180- degree training platform.

some members of the task force are skeptical. they say the department needs to focus on cultural tie versety training first -- diversity training first. clair county supervisors will meet and decide on a plan to put more officers on the streets of the bay area's biggest city, san jose. the city of san jose has been dealing with a dwindling police force due mainly to budget cutbacks and pension reforms. so today supervisors will talk about putting county sheriff's deputies on patrol in san jose. the county would offer the services on a contract basis. the deputies would probably patrol near the county borders and also on transit lines. 7:36. sausalito is not known for crime but police there are hoping a woman who may have witnessed a sexual assault at a public park comes forward. brian flores is live at gabrielson park in sausalito to explain why this witness is so important. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning. not only is violent crime rare

in sausalito but so is the search for a particular witness. police say that witness, a woman, may have seen or heard a sexual assault that happened here at gabrielson park last friday. hopefully, she may be watching the news this morning. police did arrest 51-year-old diego rodriquez over the weekend. police say rodriquez and a young woman were hanging out at a few restaurants and bars. but police say rodriquez was offering or recruiting the woman for a restaurant job where he worked. well, after several drinks, both of them ended up at gabrielson park where police say rodriquez assaulted her on a park bench. both of them then walked to a nearby restaurant where the woman made a b-line to a restroom. that's where she called police. rodriquez standing outside of the restroom unaware she made the call and then police arrested him. police say a witness back at the park may have seen or heard what happened. >> they had been talking over the past couple of weeks. he asked her if he could go

have some drinks, kind of hang out tonight, that night, and talk about it. and that's where it started. >> you are just outside of where help can be or where people can see. you just never know. >> reporter: police say that woman was carrying -- the witness, i should say, was carrying a flashlight at the park and may have been walking her dog around the same time as well, around the alleged sexual assault, around 11:45 again last friday. night. that is what the only description from her. there were no lights from the park. it was very dark at the time as well. as for rodriquez, he's being held on $100,000 bail. he's scheduled to appear in court later on today. we're live here in sausalito, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. city leaders in martinez may face a noisy crowd tomorrow. they will be talking about a possible ban on growing medical marijuana outdoors. city council members say more people are pushing for a ban complaining that pot gardens

are a magnet for thieves. they smell bad and children may be exposed to it. however, medical marijuana users and supporters say a ban would be discriminatory. they put together a facebook page encouraging people to come out to tomorrow's meeting. a marin county oiflter farm now asking the u.s. supreme court to intervene in its fight for survival. the owner of drake's bay at point reyes national seashore is challenging a decision by the former interior secretary to reject the renewal of the farm's lease. the owner filed a request yesterday that put this case before the u.s. supreme court. the case has already been turned down three times by federal judges. a man figure in the leland yee political scandal is due back in a san francisco courtroom this morning. raymond sh shrimp boy chow is expected to enter a plea. he was the first target of an fbi investigation that eventually led to the

indictment of leland yee. chow's lawyers august the fbi of he trapment in its decision to -- entrapment in its decision to prosecute him. fbi agents plan to question board president david chu and other members of the board of supervisors in its ongoing investigation. leland yee was a member of san francisco's board of supervisors in the late 1990s. b.a.r.t. police are investigating an incident that created chaos during last night's commute. trouble began shortly before 5:00 p.m. b.a.r.t. police shut down the montgomery street station and evacuated the platform after a train operator reported a woman underneath a train. that forced thousands of riders to pack into other downtown san francisco b.a.r.t. stations. some lines stretched up the stairs. the escalators had to be turned off and people backed off on the street. >> everyone was leaving and

they said the station was closed. so i turned around and left and went back to work. >> i got here around 6:15 and i went down to the station. >> people were trying to get into a train that was pretty much full. >> ktvu has learned surveillance video has learned the woman running toward the track and jumping in front of the train. she was taken to the hospital for treatment of a head injury and is expected to survive. there's still no word why the woman jumped in front of the train. a family of nine including children is safe following a big fire in san jose. how the family was able to escape and what authorities are saying about the cause of the fire. plus a terrifying report that registered sex offenders and victims, what they have in

killed. almost 3,000 homes destroyed. the president of chile says this fire has grown to dimensions never before seen. new and disturbing information released surfaced regarding two serial killers in rowrnty. steven gordon and frank hana were arrested for raping and killing at least four women in orange county, including three who went missing from santa ana last year. both men are registered sex offenders. police the say thewomen were targeted because of their ties to prostitution. and they were both wearing gps monitors during their crime spree. >> the gps was, in fact, in attached to -- was, in fact, attached to the suspects during the commission of the crime, yes. >> police did not elaborate on how the men could have carried out the killings while still under supervision. they did say there could be more victims. both men are due in court later

today. new details about the death of a man whose body was found in novato. police now say the 31-year-old jimmy tehadaa was missing days before he was found stabbed to death. take a look at this sketch. this is the person police say may have information about the death of him. police are offering a $1,000 reward for information about the person you see in this sketch. they are not saying how they were able to develop a description of this man. now, his body was found on saturday, april 5th, by an off- duty firefighter hiking near the loma verde preserve. but police say he had not been seen or heard from since the wednesday before his body was found. they also say tejeda has a history of gang activity. if you have any information about this, call the novato police department. a bay area youth baseball coach has been sentenced now to ten years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to

child molestation charges. 53-year-old joel coughman apologized to his victims and their families at the sentencing yesterday. he said he was "a broken man because of his own childhood molestation at the hands of his scoutmaster." he coached bishop high school and palo alto high school as well as little league and traveling teams. it's all the buzz on social media. many people were up late last night to see a total lunar eclipse. if you looked up into the sky about 12:45 this morning, you probably saw this -- a red moon also called a blood moon. hundreds of people gathered at the chabot space and science center. there, they got to look at the eclipse through telescopes. this is the first in a series of four. there will be three more over the next two years. one about every six months. besides the red moon stargazers got a bonus last night that's because mars was at the closest

they plan to file hate crime charges against the white supremacist arrested for killing three people at two jewish facilities. 73-year-old frazier glenn cross was arrested for the shootings in overland park, kansas on sunday. the hate crime designation means he will face state and federal charges in the killings. miller was once a ku klux klan leader and often -- spoke often about his hatred for jews. san bruno police arrested two teenaged boys in connection with three recent robberies that had a neighborhood on edge. the robberies happened near the walmart and youtube offices last week. police say the suspects are an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old. and they used a kitchen knife and hammer to rob their victims. officers arrested the younger boy in the area of the robberies on wednesday. they also found a handgun in his possession. the 18-year-old was arrested in his daily city home. 7:55. san francisco police still searching for a man who took

over a supershuttle van filled with passengers on their way to the airport. this happened sunday morning. police say the man talked his way onto that van and waited for the driver to make a stop at a hotel to pick up someone else. that's when he jumped into the driver's seat and drove off with the passengers still inside. now, police say the passengers fought with the man. he eventually pulled over. they jumped out and grabbed their luggage. tsa agents at sonoma county airport found a big knife inside of some enchiladas inside a woman's carry-on bag. the knife was discovered yesterday morning at the alaska airlines screening station. the woman told the screener she didn't know how the knife got there. she was eventually cleared to fly but she may still be fined as much as $10,000. 7:56. a miami radio station is giving details about the night of

scene -- just past the scene of a deadly crash. that has not affected southbound traffic so much. it's more of a rubbernecker delay. 85, there was word of a motorcycle crash near 101. but it's not causing a big delay. but 85 is slow after 87. and we do want to say that the traffic at the toll plaza is backed up for a 20-minute delay. a family of nine escaped their burning home this morning in san jose. firefighters say those smoke alarms save their lives. ktvu's janine de la vega has been out there all morning and janine, you just talked to the mother. she gets the credit for waking up her family and getting everybody out safe.

family. aaron's mother was pregnant at the time of the marathon. caroline is the newest member of the family. within the next 340 days the ntsb will release a report about that deadly bus crash last week in chico. investigators say it will answer a lot of questions. the crash happened last thursday when a fed-ex truck crossed a median and hit a charter bus. ten people including five high school students were killed. investigators say they recovered the electronic control modules from the charter bus and the fed-ex bus that hit it. those modules are like the black box on a plane. investigators say the one from the truck, it was destroyed. the one from the bus still has important information on it. now the driver of the fed-ex truck has been identified as tim evans. the sacramento bee is reporting to both evans and the driver of the bus had clean driving records. they were both killed in the crash. blood tests on both of the drivers are being performed

a top executive at a transit system -- a.c. transit is facing embezzlement charges accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from his oakland church. ktvu's alex savidge is live to let us know how that money may have been spent and what church officials are saying this morning. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, good morning to you. prosecutors say a.c. transit's chief financial officer stole money from allen temple baptist church where he worships. the church representative told me a short time ago that he had no comments on these charges. a.c. transit's cfo, lewis clinton junior went in front of a judge to face these charges. he's accused of stealing more

than $5500 -- $500,000. these charges are not related to his work at the transit agency. he spent this money on a luxury car, his kids' tuition to a golf club membership. prosecutors say he used positions on the board to steal church funds. clinton was even board president of a church-run corporation set up to provide housing to low-income families. now, prosecutors say the embezzlement came to light in 2012 when a bookkeeper noticed suspicious withdrawals from a church bank account. clinton makes more than $200,000 a year as a.c. transit's cfo. he also happens to be the trustee of the agency's retirement board. but in light of these charges right now, officials with a.c. transit are saying that he's listen on administrative leave for the foreseeable future. we're live in downtown oakland,

alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:16. a football player is in jail this morning accused of pulling a gun during an argument at a minor league game in pacifica. it happened saturday afternoon at tara nova high school. the game was between the pacific islanders and the sacramento capital city fury. one of the players from sacramento, 25-year-old jewel you why caesar douglas junior was -- julius caesar douglas junior was arrested for having a weapon. police say the weapon was stolen. it's a dumping program in oakland that's become really popular. it's almost bkfired. people are being allowed to dump their trash for free at ten dump sites until tomorrow. but the dumpsters are becoming so full, they are overflowing and causing more problems. one issue a lot of people are coming from other cities to dump their trash and that wasn't part of the plan. >> when the dumpsters are full, wait until the next day.

search crews hope to send the u.s. navy's robotic submarine back down into the

indian ocean today in hopes of finding the missing malaysian airlines jet. crews sent the submarine into the water yesterday but it returned to the surface after only six hours of searching when the water turned out to be deeper than expected. officials say there is a safety feature on the submarine that prevents it from going more than 15,000 feet underwater. in the meantime, new information shows the copilot's phone was on even though it was supposed to be off in the cockpit. it stayed on after the plane disappeared. sources tell cnn the copilot's phone was searching for service even after the communications were shut off. the new details confirm the flight did turn westward from the planned path and the plane was likely flying low enough for a cell tower to pick up the phone's signal. 8:25. apple getting closer to its annual update on new products. there are new rumors.

the higher clouds are fon. a little breezy. no doubt that's picked up. 60s, 70s, mainly upper 70s inland. here's sal. good morning. we're still looking at a -- kind of a dicey commute in contra costa county. we had earlier problems there. we're also looking at slow traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza which is backed up to about the foot of the macarthur maze. a 25-minute drive time into san francisco. speaking of which, we have some slowing on northbound 101 especially if you are using the central freeway but also coming in from the 280 interchange and the drive time is about 5 to 7 minutes. normally it will take you 1 or 2 when traffic is clear. not a big deal. it's heavier than normal. 680, as we mentioned, had the accident in martinez, it's cleared. but 680 is lighter than usual which is nice. 80 westbound just pockets of slow traffic from vallejo as you head down to oakland not a big deal a little bit of slowing in richmond and berkeley. 78:-- 8:31. back to the desk. a woman accused of shooting

and killing a boy in richmond last week turned herself into san francisco police. the richmond police department says melinda gaffney remains in san francisco police custody this morning. later this week, she will be transferred to the county jail in martinez or richmond. she was wanted in connection with the shooting death of 16- year-old terence forks after an argument on april 8th near a large housing complex in richmond. she's being held on $1 million bail. happening now -- for one day, google is offering the public a chance to buy it cutting-edge eyewear called google glass. however, privacy concerns and also some violent confrontations with users is causing a controversy. ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live from san francisco now and you have both sides of this high-tech debate. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, google glass is now on the market just for one day, though. you don't have to stand in line. but rather you have to go

face walking and they were smashed to the ground. others curious about technology and its vad advancement a go. $1500 is the tab if you are interested. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:34. the sonoma county sheriff's department considering using virtual reality to help prevent another deadly shooting like the one that killed 13-year-old andy lopez last october. police say lopez was carrying a toy gun that looked real. the sheriff's department is asking for the virtual reality simulator to train their officers on the use of lethal force. last night, deputies presented the idea to a community task force that was formed after lopez was killed. that device would project images on three screens giving sheriff's deputies a 180-degree training plat norm. some of the members of the task

this sexual assault is scheduled for a hearing here in san rafael. in terms of finding this witness, finding her will help the prosecution's case but also talking with her could shed new light on this sexual assault. diego rodriquez was arrested over the weekend. police say he and another woman were hanging out at a new downtown restaurants and bars in sausalito. the peg here, police say she was offering or recruiting the woman for a restaurant job where he worked. after several drinks, both of them talked to gabrielson park where police say he assaulted her on a park bench. both walked to a restaurant where the woman made it to a restroom and that's where she called police. rodriquez was standing outside of the restroom unaware she made the call and police arrested him there. police say a witness back at the park may have seen or heard what happened. >> they had casually been talking over the last couple of weeks. he asked her if they could go have some drinks, kind of hang

out tonight, that night and talk about it and that's where it started. >> you are just outside of where help can be or where people can see and, you know, you just never know. >> reporter: police say that woman witness was carrying a flashlight and may have been walking her dog at the time the alleged assault happened which was around 11:45 last night friday. that was the only description by sausalito police. there's no lights at the park. very dark at the time as well. as for rodriquez. he's being held on $100,000 bail. he's scheduled for a 9:00 arraignment this morning here at the courthouse in san rafael. we've give you another update for the noon news. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. a san jose police officer accused of rape has pleaded not guilty. jeffrey graves did not speak as he left the courthouse yesterday afternoon. prosecutors say he sexually assaulted a woman at a hotel in september. she had been taken there after

a domestic disturbance call. graves is free on $100,000 bail. he's due back in court may 13th. a main figure in a leland yee political scandal is due back in the courtroom this morning. chow is scheduled to enter a plea to money laundering and several other charges. chow was the first target of an fbi investigation that eventually led to the indictment of state senator leland yee. chow's lawyers accuse the fbi of entrapment in its decision to prosecute the former chinatown gang leader. the nib is headed to -- the fbi is headed to san francisco city hall in its investigation into this scandal. fbi agents plan to interview board president david chu and other members of the board of supervisors in its ongoing investigation. a city aide tells ktvu these interviews are voluntary and there's no indication any member of the supervisors in san francisco is involved in this scandal in any way.

leland yee was a member of san francisco's board of supervisors in the late 1990s. 78:39. city official -- 8:39. city officials may face a noisy credit card tomorrow and talk about a possible band on the growing of medical marijuana outdoors. city council members say a growing number of people are pushing for a ban, saying it brings about thieves and it smells bad. medical marijuana users say that would be discriminatory. they put together a football page and are en-- facebook page and are encouraging people to come out. it's april 15th. if you still have not filed your taxes, it could be as easy as a click of the mouse. more people are e-filing. 91% of the returns have been done through the internet. last year, 85%.

some of the top stories we're following for you right now. one year ago today, two bombs blew up at the finish line of the boston marathon. three people were killed more than 200 were hurt. a phone scammer called the san leandro police department and said he was with the dea demanding money warning about a federal investigation into an online pharmacy scam. police forwarded the information to the dea and they are investigating. also new this morning a family of nine including seven children escaped with their lives from their burning home early today. the fire started around 4:00 a.m. at their townhouse on moorings court. janine de la vega now in front of that home. you can show us we're looking

over your shoulder, the damage. >> reporter: the woman stepped out a little while ago and took a look at the home where she used to live. she was just taking her head. she said she tried to stay calm. you could see here it's clearly gutted. cars are burnt. everything is destroyed. here's some cell phone video we obtained showing how intense the flames were. firefighters say this fire spread quickly. they were concerned because the townhomes are close to one another. the woman said she woke up to the sound of smoke alarms and rounded up her seven children and the father. they all got out safe but are reeling from the loss. we lost everything we have.

i have a 6-week-old, we have seven children. we have nothing no more. i mean, nothing. we don't even have shoes on our feet. we lost everything. like i said before i'm glad we have one another. >> reporter: as you heard, the mom has a newborn and her other six children are young. the red cross is providing them with assistance. neighbors have stepped up to offer clothing. two other homes received minor damage. firefighters do not believe that this fire was suspicious. they believe it was accidental based on their investigation. now all morning the family has been worried about their dog. it was in the back yard when the fire started and ran away. but in the past half-hour, they were able to find the dog. it was running around in the neighborhood and they have their dog. they have their lives. nobody was injured. so they are fortunate. but again just devastated over the loss. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel

2 news. of after several deadlines extensions, today marks the end of the first open enrollment period for covered california. california's health insurance exchange is encouraging thousands of people who started application to finish them up before midnight. march 31st was the original signup deadline. but the website was swamped and kept crashing. people who started applications have until midnight to finish them. diabetes are being warned to stay on top of their medicine and diets under the affordable care act. doctors say before the new healthcare law was passed, most insurance companies would not cover people with diabetes because it was too expensive. now the insurance companies have no choice and to keep costs down, the companies are making sure that diabetes they cover are taking care of themselves. companies say some methods include calling patients, helping them get to the doctors and even sending nurses on

8:53. minutes ago, kansas state prosecutors announced they are filing murder charges against a known white supremacist accused of killing three people at two jewish facilities. 73-year-old frazier glenn cross was arrested for the shootings in overland park, kansas on

sunday. prosecutors say they are charging him with one count of capital murder for the deaths of a 14-year-old boy and his grandfather and one count of first-degree premeditated murder for the death of a woman gunned down while visiting her mother at a nearby retirement complex. >> we don't have hate crime charges in kansas. you know, he's charged with capital murder which is the most serious crime that you can be charged with in the state of kansas. it has the most serious penalty you can give which is the potential of the death penalty. >> miller was once a ku klux klan leader and spoke often about his hatred for jews. the three victims were all christian. federal prosecutors also said there's enough evidence to -- to add additional hate crime charges before a grand jury. disturbing information surfaced regarding two accused serial killers in orange county. patrolees steven gordon and frank cano were arrested for
