continues. for the most part the roads in san jose and santa clara valley are okay. an investigation is underway into a deadly sailboat crash. the coroner was there when the photographer arrived to remove the body. investigators spent hours overnight going through the damaged boat. these are live pictures now coming from the marina. the fire department says the boat broke its mast, killing at least one person and causing a head injury to another. the sailboat accident happened in redwood creek. it was taking part in a weekly race sponsored by the yacht club. police are searching for the person who shot and killed a boy last night.

alex, good morning. >>reporter: good morning. antioch police are not saying how old this boy was, only that he was under 18. this is just off hillcrest avenue where he was found. the calls came in after 8:30 last night. officers say the victim had been shot several times. the first arriving officers tried to revive the boy, but he was pronounced dead here at the scene. the victim's name has not been released. police have not said why this boy may have been targeted, but this is the third deadly shooting here in antioch in the last two weeks. first a man was gunned down outside a liquor store, then a jewelry storeowner last week shot and killed an armed robber. i have called antioch police this morning, and i'll let you know when we hear back from them with new details on this

homicide investigation. we're live this morning in antioch, alex savage, ktvu news. prosecutors say a 17-year- old, anthony perez and antonio iala killed a man last week. perez is being charged as an adult. both suspects have gang ties, according to prosecutors. this morning san jose police are investigating the death of a nine month old baby boy. officers received a call about this around 7:00 last night. the boy was discovered in a car by his father. in the last hour police sources tell ktvu it appears the father may have forgotten to take the boy to the baby-sitters on his way to work. investigators are trying to determine if it was an accident. there is new information about the ferry disaster in south korea. one of the cnn affiliates says

there were 46 life boats on the ferry, but only one was deployed. the current death toll stands at nine, but many remain missing. rescue crews are hoping that the people are inside the cap sized ship rather than in the water because they may still be alive if they found air pockets to breathe. many survivors thought they would never make it. >> i was staying put, but suddenly the water came up to my face so i think it was a narrow escape from dying. >> the ship was carrying nearly 500 people, mostly high school students. it started sinking after hitting rocks. hear from the captain of the ferry, who survived the crash. he was interviewed as he tried hiding his face. happening today, important tests that could help determine what caused a deadly bus crash and fire on interstate 5. an investigation team will go to the scene this afternoon to try to recreate last thursday's

crash between a fed ex truck and tour bus. ten people were killed, including five high school students on their way to tour humboldt state university. they'll use vehicles similar to those in the crash to analyze issues such as speed, braking and visibility. we'll provide updates throughout the day. a south bay woman has filed a class action lawsuit against pier one imports claiming she was forced to take unpaid leave because she was pregnant. she works as a sales associate in south san jose. her doctor told her not to climb ladders or lift over 15 pounds, and the store responded placed her on light duty and forced her to take leave months before her due date. >> shocked and hurt because i've been such a loyal dedicated employee for the company two years. i figured they had some kind of policy for pregnancy.

it wasn't just eight weeks and you're out the door. >> according to her attorney, pier one has a policy of putting pregnant women on light duty for a maximum of eight weeks and then automatically places them on unpaid leave if they continue to need accommodations. so far pier one has not commented. city council has voted to prevent people from growing marijuana in their back yards. opponents say it could make it harder for medical marijuana patients to get the medicine they need. >> it could be garlic that could bother your nostrils and be a nuisance in the neighborhood. >> the city of concord passed a similar ban last year. san francisco is taking steps to deal with 420, the

slang for smoking marijuana. police and parking patrols will be increased. last year thousands of people gathered outside golden gate park leaving 10,000 pounds of trash behind. police say they'll specifically be watching for illegal parking, camping, drug sales and open alcohol containers. the critical part of the new 49ers stadium is being installed today. the first truck delivering sod is scheduled to arrive at 5:00 this morning. these are pictures of the new grass field while was being grown by west coast turf. it needs half the water as average turf. it will take 2.5 acres of sod to cover the field at the stadium. the 49ers chose it because they think it will cut the risk of player injuries. the sod company also supplies to other sports teams including the raiders and giants.

they're still looking for debris of the missing malaysian flight. the search is focused under water to scan the ocean floor. they're analyzing the data from the first mission. an oil slick in the area does not appear connected to the missing plane. an attorney for a man trying to open an exit door on a southwest airlines door may have suffered a panic attack. he says he has a fear of flying due to the missing malaysian airlines flight. he has asked for an evaluation. the plane was forced to land about an hour after taking off from chicago. he could face years in prison if found guilty. a federal judge in san francisco is expected to set the legal guidelines for

prosecutors handing over evidence to lee's defense team in the corruption case. yee has pleaded not guilty to accepting bribes or gun trafficking. . there's been another delay in the man accused of killing a missing teenager. anthony tore he's was in court yesterday, but his attorney asked for more time. he says the district attorney's office is still trying to decide whether to ask for the death penalty. he's pled not guilty to the murder of a girl who disappeared while on her way to school. he's due back in court june 11. tonight a task force will hold its final public meeting on preventing hate crimes at san jose state university.

the task force has spent the last few months exploring policies that could help prevent incidents. an african-american student said he was a target of bullying and last month he filed a $5 million claim against the university. san jose state university students staged an unusual protests over what they believe is dangerous conditions in certain class rooms. they conducted a faint-in one of the oldest campus buildings. students say even though temperatures were in the 70s yesterday, warm air blew from the building's events. they say students have actually passed out because some of the class rooms get too hot and the windows don't open. >> it's very hot in this building. there's no air conditioning. the heaters are on in the class rooms. >> the university says the old

building will likely be demolished and probably not renovated before then. people could soon face dramatic mandatory water cut backs. the zone seven water board has approved a 75% cut in the water they provide there. they say if people don't reduce their usage, outdoor water could be banned. in the meantime pleasantton will ask about it at the next meeting may 6. the water board is scheduled to meet again may 7 to consider whether an ordinance is needed with stricter mandatory cuts. officials in portland,

oregon are flushing away water after a manure nateed into a city reservoir that holds drinking water. surveillance video from tuesday morning shows one man relieving himself and another climbing over the fence toward the water. officials say the water had already been treated and the urine poses littleries, but don't want to provide water to people that has been deliberately tainted. >> we're not going to deliver water we know that's been contaminated, even if we know it's a little tiny bit. >> three men were cited fortress passing and another for public urination. portland has plenty of water and soon this sort of problem will no longer be possible. new federal laws require alares divorce to be covered in the next year and a half -- reservoirs to be covered.

we don't have a lot going on. there is one intersection you should avoid at coleman road where a couple vehicles got into a collision and ended up in a field. they're still doing an investigation at the scene. one person or actually two people are in the hospital. one has life threatening injuries. i do want to mention the traffic is not heavy right now, and if they do clear it before too long, i don't think it should have a major impact, but you should avoid the area just in case. let's go out to live pictures now or actually an area of the south bay. the expressway crash is on the books there, but for the rest of the santa clara valley, it looks pretty good. know a live picture of the bay bridge westbound coming up into san francisco. it does look good.

good cooldown. a combination of low and high clouds. today we start off clear to mostly clear. so it will be sunny today. i'll mention patchy fog and a few high clouds. these take a dip on friday and slowly recover in the weekend. high clouds and overall upper 70s, a few low 80s. we do have the system driving in friday for a cooldown and rebound a little bit on the weekend. sunday looks fine and monday is okay, but tuesday there may be some rain. this is what spring looks like in minnesota. take a look at that. more than a foot of snow fell, and it seems like some drivers had already forgotten how to drive on snow-covered roads. it was still snowing when we checked about a short time ago, but spring may arrive by saturday when high temperatures are expected to be in the 70s.

relocation offers are pouring in to a southern california hot sauce company. the city is suing the maker of the hot sauce and voted to designate the factory a public nuisance because of the odor of chili peppers. the company has received offers to relocate its plant to other cities as well as other states. the ceo is inviting those interested to tour the plant. a grocery chain hopes to come out of chapter 11 bankruptcy protection next month. it says it won't close any of its stores, at least not immediately. the chain revealed it had to replace 80% of its workforce. they were the subject of a federal immigration audit back in 2012 and employs about 3200 people. police have arrested three people in connection with an armed robbery of a man at an

a town in west texas is reflecting on the deadly fertilizer explosion one year ago today. the man captured the explosion on video as he drove past. it killed 15 people, many volunteer firefighters. it also leveled homes and schools. the town is considering whether to allow another fertilizer plant. with the plant gone farmers have to travel 30 miles away to get what they need. the mayor says if a new plant comes to town it would have to be safer. it's still not known what

caused the explosion. it is sentencing day for an oakland teenager charged in a shootout that took the life of a toddler more than two years ago. it was caught on surveillance video. police say 18-year-old frederick coleman fired the bullet that killed the boy. his father was filming a music video in the area at the time. coleman has pled guilty to first-degree murder charges and as part of a plea deal is expected to be sentenced to life in prison. police are searching for clues after a shocking discovery in berkley. a 16-year-old girl was found naked and pepper sprayed on piedmont avenue early yesterday morning. police say she may be the victim of sex trafficking. the girl's screams woke up neighbors. >> i open the window, and she said, i want water.

i've been pepper sprayed. i jumped up out of bed and said to my husband, you hear that? >> police say the girl had been kidnaped and sexually assaulted in some other city, then dropped off in this berkley neighborhood and was then rushed to highland hospital for treatment of her injuries. there's no word on her condition this morning. it's been 25 years since the brutal killing in napa county that made headlines around the country. on april 14, when she was three years old, her father slashed her throat and left her for dead in a garbage dump. that day he killed seven other people, including her mother and two sisters. he's on death row. she says she's visited him and
