all day. the first infant death of its kind in the nation this year. ktvu's robert handa reports family and friends are dealing with grief and guilt. >> reporter: he is dealing with his own grief while defending the father of a 9 month old who died after being left all day in a vehicle parked here yesterday in san jose. the father who police haven't identified worked for his brother and picks up this delivery truck in the morning and parks his suv on the streets. he says the father usually drops the baby off at a sitter first but this time drove off with the baby strapped in a child seat. >> i don't know how it happened. he got distracted or something. when he got back he found the baby, he called 911. when they come over, he is

dead. >> reporter: he and neighbors are haunted by the tragedy because they were working outside within a few feet of the suv. >> difficult because windows were tainted. that is the main reason -- but the baby wasn't crying. >> reporter: no arrests have been made. friends of the father say they don't believe he deserves that kind of treatment. >> retrain him from talking to anybody. he was crying in grief. all he said was the baby, the baby. >> the mystery is still why did the father forget he left the baby behind. in san jose, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. there are several things that parents can do to make sure their child not left in a car. put something in the back seat next to the car seat like a purse so you have to open the backdoor. put a animal in the car seat when the child is not in the car and set it next to you when

and another in serious condition after a crash in san jose. the accident happened after midnight. police say a two cars collided. both ended up in a nearby field. police are trying to figure out what caused the crash. >> our traffic investigations unit will look for witnesses. they will take statements from them. we know they are the only two involved vehicles. >> alcohol might have been a factor. prosecutorsind -- prosecutors plan to file charges in the case that led to other charges against california state senator leland yee but did not say which defendants would be facing the charges. can just can just was among those in -- keith jackson was among those in court this morning. the judge gave the prosecution till july to amend the charges.

teen gunned down blocks from his home. the victim's brothers lit candles to mark the spot where he was shot and killed. police got the call after 8:30 p.m. last night. a friend heard the gunfire as he was riding his bike home. >> i tried to call him, i heard four gun shots out of my window. i called him and i texted him, are you okay. i told him, never called me back. >> police have not said if the teen was deliberately targeted and they haven't released a description of the shooter. new developments in the case of a sexual assault against a teenager. the san francisco police are joining the investigation. ktvu's cristina rendon is live to explain why. >> reporter: we are near the corner where the 16 was found near piedmont avenue year.

it is unclear where her journey started. the san francisco police department believes she was kidnapped in the city on tuesday and then taken to the east bay, that is the new development we are hearing from investigators. san francisco police department tells us they are not investigating it as a sexual assault but they think she was kidnapped in the city and brought to the east bay where she was robbed. it was first thought the girl was kidnapped in oakland. this is where neighbors found her. she was frantic and screaming she was raped and mese are looking -- police are looking into the case that she was part of a sex trafficking or human trafficking ring but that is all things san francisco police are looking into. >> our investigators have to go back and interview the victim and try pinpoint where this may have occurred in san francisco and go back there and look for

california voters strongly support funding to expand preschool to younger concern. last week a committee -- children. last week a committee approved to fund for four years old. $1.4billion by 2020. currently it is not publicly funded for all and there are long wait lists for subsidized programs. our ktvu channel 2 news poll finds californians feel it is important to give younger children access to an additional year of school. 56% said the state should do more to provide those opportunities. 25% said the state is doing enough. 12% feel california is doing too much. two years ago they restricted admission to kindergarten to children who turned 5 by the

fall. they set up a transition kindergarten program. 60% of voters favor the new transitional program, 25% oppose. 15% had no opinion. as for funding, support is strong across all income levels and among all voters not just those with young children. covered california says enrollment exceeded expectations. 1.4million californians picked out a policy before the deadline. that is 1 million more than federal government projections last fall. covered california hasn't said how many paid their first month's premium. 1.9 signed up for coverage under medi-cal. a new advance in human cloning. scientists created very early stage embryos with dna that matched their donors. last year a similar experiment

mattress on fire while homeless people were inside. today investigators say dogs trained to detect human remains indicated possible evidence of remains in three locations. they still need to verify the findings. woman accused of killing a teenager boy was charged today. investigators say the 30-year- old woman knew the boy ask they had a baby together. ktvu's john sasaki is live in martinez to explain. john? >> reporter: prosecutors here at the contra costa county district attorney office are working on this homicide case. magdalena glinkowski is in jail on murder charges for shooting terrance forks to death 10 days ago outside the apartment complex in richmond. prosecutors say magdalena glinkowski and terrance forks had a baby together. the pair were arguing about his current girlfriend that led to

magdalena glinkowski becoming enraged. witnesses took down her car license plate that led to a warrant for her arrest. she turned herself into san francisco police earlier this week. live in martinez, john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. contra costa county sheriff's department says deputies arrested a suspect in a homicide. he was shot and killed at a home. yesterday they took the 28-year- old into custody. he is held on suspicion of first degree murder. authorities have not said what lead to the shooting. san francisco is homing to strengthsen its response to emergency by part -- strengthen its response to emergencies by partnering with a company. they will be working with next door to help connect people before and during disasters. one of the co-founders explained it is like facebook but not for the purpose of
