slide john just mentioned from two years ago. it was april 13th, 2012. just two months ago, the city of piedmont wound up settling the property owners to recover some of the cost of the clean up. it was a close call for some customers at a candy shop. investigators say two cars were involved in an accident right in front of the store. after the collision, police say one of the drivers tried to move her car, but ended up driving right into the store. the woman hiker found dead last night was a 4th grade teacher at an oakland school for disadvantaged children. she was the 2nd woman to die on mount tam in the past week, both found in popular areas and police do not suspect foul

she got her teaching credential at san francisco state. after another outage last night left officers unable to communicate out in the field. ktvu learned the police radio system went down for three minutes last night. it's a problem that's plagued the department for years. oakland city manager says the officers will get new radios. the manager of a restaurant in sausalito will not face charges on allegations of rape. there is not enough evidence to charge the manager. the victim told the police she met with the manager last week for a job opportunity and after several drinks, she says he sexual assaulted her. the man shot and killed in richmond is identified as perre reddic junior.

police are trying to determine if he was burglarizing a home. >> reporter: the 68 year old home owner was alert after being shot in the leg several times, but seriously hurt. >> sometimes the crime subsides for a while, but it's not surprising. >> reporter: police say it began at 1:15 this morning. the burglar tried to break into the home. the home owner opened the door and shot the burglar in the chest. the burglar jumped the wall leaving a trail of blood before collapsing on the sidewalk. authorities say the burglar's three friends then appeared. police say a shoot out occurred in this yard where the suspect fired at the homeowner. we counted 10 shell casings where these evidence markers are. we talked to a neighbor who heard the shots. he says it worries him because

a powerful 7.2 earthquake shook central and southern mexico this morning. it was tracked by recording data at uc berkeley. more on the recent string of earthquakes. >> reporter: we know as soon as the earthquake struck, early warning notifications were cent out to employees ata uc berkeley. the images started to come in. the earthquake struck about 170 miles south of mexico city. it's a popular vacationing spot for people enjoying the easter holiday. thankfully no one was hurt. since the beginning of the year, there have been at least 6 significant quakes, 6.6 or higher on the west coast all the way from alaska to the tip of south america. california recently full the rumble of earthquakes too.

scrambling and all the teams are pitching in and trying to get the bodies off the mountain and get medical treatment to those they did get off earlier. >> hundreds of climbers are on the mountain. this could be the deadliest day in the history of everest climbs. mount everest stands 29,028 feet above sea level, the tallest mountain in the world. you could stack all three of the bay area'sa peaks on top of each other twice and still be short by more than 8,000 feet. here is how the tallest mountain in california compares. mount whit me is the highest summit in the lower 48 states. mount diablo measures just over 3800 feet.

prosecutors say he could be registered as an arsonist. the victim of last night's deadly shooting in concord is victor gutierrez. so far no arrests have been made. his death marks the first homicide in concord this year. in santa rosaa two teenagers are in custody after the stabbing of a 17 year old. the stabbing is believed to be gang-related. the victim was taken to the hospital and released. investigators are trying to determine if anyone else involved. voters are considering a measure that some call a last- ditch effort to keep a hospital open. the measure would impose a 14-

the homeowner's association disagrees. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu channel 2 news at 6:00. months after anlaged hate crime on the san jose state campus, a call for change. >> a task force handed down more than 50 recommendations today in the hopes that administrators will take actiona. new ata 6:00, we take a look at those recommendations. >> reporter: this is the final report, which came out today. but these are just recommendations. now it's up to university officials to put some or all of them into practice here on campus. >> reporter: they met 6 times, ultimately coming up with 50 suggestions. >> i have no reason to be optimistic. >> reporter: he says their final report means nothing without action.
