other than to say they had a fence. they have a fence on the western side and the bay on the eastern side. oakland had a similar response. it has a security fence and within the property and facilities there are layers of security fences. news chopper 2 flew over head. you can see some of the fences surrounding the airport as well as dirt roads. people sneaking on to planes isn't as uncommon as you think. there have been 95 documented cases of attempted stow aways on 84 flights from 1996 to 2012. 75% of the attempts result in death. last year a boy survived after she stowed away on a 45 minute flight. in 2010 a man survived a 90 minute flight.

bruno city leaders. >> reporter: this morning a group of advocates stood by as pg&e was called. pg&e executives were not on hand but the lawyer plead not guilty to 12 violations. carrying $6 million. >> no employee did anything intentionally wrong to make this tragic accident happen. san bruno was a terrible accident. >> reporter: the judge who will try the case met with prosecutors and pg&e this afternoon. >> what we want to see happen is that pg&e is forced to take responsibility, take full and complete responsibility and do what is necessary to ensure this never happens again. >> reporter: though they will fight the case they already changed their culture. >> over the last few years we made a lot of progress on our system. we brought in new leadership.

oakland. you spoke to a pilot? >> reporter: that's right. and we talked to boeing for this story and they wouldn't give us specifics about the dimensions of the wheel wells in the jets but we talked to a pilot who flown planes many times and he estimates the dimensions are similar to the size of our live trucks. maybe smaller. 8 to10 feet long. -- to 10 feet long. and 6 to 7 feet of space inside. >> reporter: this video shows the gear of a boeing retracking into the wheel well. if you ask people who worked around this type of jet, they will tell you the story of the 16-year-old seems unreal. >> it is unbelievable. i am -- i am -- i really wonder if it is true. >> reporter: he spent 2,000 hours in the cockpit of a boeing 767 during his career

allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. new information about a boy rescued from the water at marina park. the hospital says the boy is making amazing recovery. his condition is now listed as fair. a good samaritan pulled the boy out yesterday afternoon. doctors say the boy was in full cardiac arrest. the good samaritan helped revive him before paramedics arrived. the warriors are giving up on plans to build an arena on the san francisco water front. they are looking to build in the mission bay blocks from at&t park. ktvu's david stevenson looks at the change and how opponents to the original plan are reacting. david? >> reporter: you know, it doesn't look like much but this site is where the warriors will try to build their new arena. this represent as new strategies to try to bring the

right now with breaking news. >> going back to the breaking news in the south bay we reported that beginning the of newscast, emergency crews are at the scene of a deadly crash on highway 85. this is a live look from news chopper 2. a jeep and another vehicle collided around 3:30 p.m. in the north bound lanes. >> both vehicles over turned. the north bound lanes are shut down. one person was pronounced dead at the scene. we don't know what vehicle the victim was in. traffic is taking off the highway at deanza boulevard. the crash is effecting the southbound direction as well. they are moving slowly past the scene. the california highway patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash. now to a story the experts call unbelievable. a 15-year-old boy taken from the tarmac in a stretcher after he survived a flight in the wheel well of a jet liner from san jose to maui.

he survived temperatures as low as 80 degrees below zero at 38,000 feet. as we have been reported yesterday morning it teen climbed over this security fence at mineta san jose international airport. the fence topped with barbed wire and itgoed around the airport. -- it goes around the airport. the teen snuck on to the flight, headed to maui. that is when investigators say he climbed into the wheel well of the plane and hid there. it is unclear if the teen hid in the back or the front wheel well. once he got to hawaii they spotted the teen crawling out of the wheel well. >> upon the rival of one of our workers, did see that juvenile come out of the wheel well. >> the teen was dazed from losing consciousness and he was

taken into custody. >> , eperts say it is neary impossible for someone to survive. ktvu's john fowler spoke to experts on how the teen may have survived. >> he cheated death one pilot put it. 100 people tried hiding but only a hand full survived. >> amazing. first it has to be scary. in a compartment like that and having the landing gear closing. >> 4 hours above 35,000 feet, 50 below zero. pilots know the risk, too cold and too little oxygen. we found a medical doctor who has a theory about how he survived. >> he went into a hibernation type state.

>> replacing bad memories with happy new ones. the new start claudine wong found at the finish line at the boston marathon. complete bay area news coverage starts right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 6:00 p.m. >> against all odds a teen stow away survive as flight across the pacific. hard to believe. a teen flies to hawaii in the wheel well of a 767. i am ken wayne. frank somerville is off. >> julie haener. according to the fbi the 15- year-old jumped a fence at mineta san jose international airport yesterday morning and climbed into the wheel well of the plane bound for maui. the teen told investigators he passed out during the flight. he survived the 5 hour ordeal and freezing temperatures. when the plane landed he climbed down to the runway. after a medical exam the teen appears to be fine.
