for the first time. hello. i am frank somerville. >> and i am julie haener. >> it didn't take long if them to see big bucks from the new stadium. once they revealed the schedule phones started ringing right away at local hotels. new at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's robert handa joins us to show us why rooms are going fast and what it will cost to get them. >> reporter: there are more than 30 large hotels, and as with many things it is all about location. while many could benefit, the ones with the best view are already reaping the rewards. >> reporter: when you say you want a room with the view these days had view is probably of the new 49ers levi stadium. the facility has been generating a lot of interest since construction began two years ago and now with the announcement of the schedule as well as other events the

stadium is ready to generate revenue for local hotels. >> within 5 minutes we started seeing movement with reservations. december 28, 3 days after christmas, normally would be dead, it will be full. and busy. >> reporter: it isn't just the events that we will see more business. they say the levi stadium effect will fill in low demand backs week in and week out. >> it is going to crazy during the week. filling hotel rooms. running 80% during the week. one of the many good things is it will fill the hotels on the weekends. >> the rates will go up with demand. we checked with websites and for one thing events like opening day requires a two night stay minimal, in the high 200s per night. it hasn't slowed down demand. that weekend is almost already

sold out. >> big win for the city, the hotels, restaurants, everything. >> reporter: the impact did start fast and spread fast. the convention center got requests to hold events around the 49ers home games. robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. >> more details now on some of the economic promises made about the new levi stadium. a signature piece of the project is expected to be the gateway development across the street. it is a $400 million project proposed by joe montana. it is expected to create 300 construction jobs and 600 permanent jobs. it will open in 2016. although montana and leaders are trying to speed up the process and get it open in time for the super bowl early that year. www.ktvu.com has a slide show and more information about

the new stadium and i got a look at the stadium while it was under construction and you can watch that video as well, it is all under hot topics. a school bus crashed in orange county this afternoon injuring 13 people in anaheim hills in the eastern part of the city. the driver was trapped till firefighters freed him. officials say 9 students are among the injured. there is no word on the extent of the injuries or what caused the crash. a student on the bus said they were from a charter school. a police officer flipped a patrol car this afternoon while chasing a stolen vehicle on tennessee street. the officer was taken to the hospital and is in fair condition tonight. there is no word whether the police caught the driver of the stolen car. we are learning more about the investigation into the shooting at a medical building. we broke the news yesterday about the shooting and the lock

down and evacuation that followed. tonight we learned police found a weapon and ammunition inside the suspect's home. 84-year-old was taken into custody last night at the home. investigators say it is too early to say if the weapon is the one that was used in the shooting but neighbors are surprised to hear of his arrest. >> he is a quiet guy. he wasn't the guy who would be running around and screaming. no one was injured. he is a former patient at the medical office. it is not clear what relationship he has with doctors and staff there. she was known around the neighborhood as loving dog walker with a vibrant personalities. now suspicions about how she died could be true. ktvu's john sasaki is live where two people have been arrested in connection with her killing. >> reporter: both men are

charged with killing judy salamon and police say the pair are well green officers. stephon lee and mario floyd are behind bars charged with the murder of judy salamon. >> the shooter has been in custody for a few months and the driver has been taken into custody. >> reporter: the dog walker was shot and killed july 24 on fern street. the lead investigator called judy salamon a brave woman who tried to document the suspects committing a crime. >> the suspects entered their vehicle and drove away, judy salamon followed them back to fern street where she was shot and killed and her phone taken. >> reporter: lee has previous convictions. >> the suspects are known to the police department. i can tell you that. and we are familiar with them and the activity they take part

in. >> reporter: gang members? >> i am not going to say documented gang members but we have like neighborhood gangs and they are part of a neighborhood gang. >> reporter: one of her friends was relieved to hear of the arrest but not free of concern. >> there is two off the streets and the mace is still crazy -- place is still crazy. nobody knows how to deal with this kind of situation. we have such an infrenched bullying culture -- entrenched bullying culture. >> reporter: this is a capital case, the suspects could face the death penalty. john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. authorities say they have dismantled parts of a drug ring. they arrested 18 people and seized meth, cocaine, heroin, weapons and cash. and some of the suspects

appeared in court today. one of the men arrested is curio. she a high ranking -- he is a high ranking cartel member. >> one degree removed from traffickers. so the investigation was coined peration five degrees >> some of the suspects involved face more than 20 years in prison if convicted. police have issued an alert for a missing 10-year-old boy. investigators say he was last seen on santa clara avenue after 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. he is 4'10", 90 pounds. he was last seen wearing a red flood shirt. investigators describe the case as a run away and he could be on his way to oakland. anyone with information about his where about is urged to call police. new at 6:00 p.m. the contra costa county health department is warning about an

increase in whooping cough. today his parents reached out to us. >> ktvu's noelle walker spoke to the mother who said vaccinations didn't work. >> reporter: no, they didn't. after a cough and several visits to the doctor's office she asked that her son get a test. she said the doctors told her it would come back negative because he was vaccinated. the results surprised everyone. sphyou want to know what -- >> reporter: if you want to know what it feels like to be a prisoner in their own home, ask this mom whose children got whooping cough. >> i have not slept properly in about a month. >> reporter: it is something she didn't expect her family to get. >> we all had the booster and we still all got whooping cough. >> reporter: we hit the

children who have lingering cough to get tested. i got a tweet from someone who said her son also has whooping cough. even if the vaccine isn't 100% the people here at contra costa county health department says it is better to get it than do nothing. noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news. a san francisco public utilities commission is calling a report about the city's drinking water misleading. officials say an article unnecessarily raised concerns about the planned addition of ground water to the water supply in 2016. they claim four wells would add contaminants to the drinking water but the p.u.c. said it would not make the water supply unsafe. >> there are wells that show

higher levels of nitrate that could be cause for concern. the comparison numbers that were used in the article were apples and oranges. >> the city gets its drinking water from the hecht hetchy reservoir. ground water would contradict 5% of the daily water supply. california ranks in the middle of the pack when it comes to the percentage of adults that have college degrees. california is number 23 among the 50 states. under 40% of california's adults have a two or four year degree. that compares with massachusetts where just over 50% have a degree. she watched through a bus window as a sheaf made off -- thief made off with her bicycle. >> the guy said to me, nice bike. isn't it. i said, it is a nice bike.

breaking news. police are on the scene of a murder-suicide. police were called to a home about 4:40 p.m. this afternoon. investigators believe it was a man who shot the woman and then shot himself. some surprising testimony today from a supervisor accused of peaking into a neighbor's apartment while wearing

practically nothing. in a courtroom the supervisor testified that he was drinking when he knocked on his neighbor's window in boxer shorts. during cross-examination he answered yes to questions on whether he stuck his hand through his accuser's windso but he deny -- window but he denied looking into her house. she called 911 after hearing a scratching sound. there is word of a settlement in a lawsuit against aldon smith and a former teammate in connection with a shooting at a party. aldon smith was sued by two men who say they were shot and injured at a party at smith's home in san jose two years ago. this week a lawyer filed notice his client reached a settlement. no word on a figure in the case. new at 6:00 p.m.

a simple bike theft turned into a brutal assault when the woman's bike was stolen confronted the thief. it is a frustrating feeling for bicyclist whose seen their bikes stolen. ktvu's david stevenson met one woman who was assaulted after she tried to get her bike a day. >> reporter: 11 bike as day are stolen -- bakes a day are stolen. she fought to get her bike back and has bruises to show for it. her bike was taken last week. removed from a bus rack as she watched from inside. >> somebody is taking the bike. so by the time i got off the bus the bike was gone. >> reporter: she filed a police

report, posted a picture on social media and got a message from a man who saw the bike. she rushed to the scene. >> the guy says to me, nice bike, and i said it is, it is mine. >> reporter: things got violent after she picked up the bike. >> we were wrestling over the bike. he gets me on the ground and his friend pepper sprays me in the face. >> the good samaritan was also pepper sprayed after he tried to stop the two men. she is frustrated police didn't show up before the fight. >> police responded to the assault. what happens is that the way it is crimes in progress will get priority. >> i have to do something because it would be heart breaking to watch it ride away. >> reporter: she is not holding out for a second chance, she
