>> we have cloudy skies. light rain, not a lot. drips and drabs. it's picking up for a few locations. light rain, cloudy. cloudy, cool tns until noon. a few breaks. but the possibility of thundershower activity. there's really not a lot. but it looks like it's expandge the coverage to the north a little bit. santa rosa, st. helena, napa. jenny said a couple of wet dogs. the rain is coming down there better. casey said hardly rain but there's a little bit. the marin county along the san mateo coast that looks more impressive. there's also light rain down towards gilroy, and the santa cruz mountains. 50s on the temperatures. santa rosa, 52. two parts of the system. what's going through. that will be with us and this cool, unstable air mass has to swing in. that might give us thundershower activity. a couple of 1/100ths to maybe

.25 to .03. cloudy with rain, cooler with everybody and possible thundershowers. mainly low 60s for almost everybody. here's sal. steve, we're looking at the wet weather. i just got a text from tara who told me that it's pouring in san leandro. let me see if i read it right. l.o.l. pouring in san francisco. roads will be a nightmare. that's from tara moriarty. people can't drive in the rain. the rain is moving around. you heard steve say that it's probably gonna stay this way throughout the morning commute. just drive carefully. be careful. 880 northbound and southbound, the traffic is moderately heavy. i had a couple of complaints about 680 in livermore because of that crash we told you about at the plant there, the traffic is terrible on 84 through livermore and getting down to sunol area. don't use it. use 580 and 680 as an alternate. i also want to show you that

880 southbound is getting much busier from 238 as you head down to union city. 7:03. back to the desk. >> all right, sal. we're beginning with breaking news from east san jose. a huge police manhunt is underway right now for two robbery suspects. the search has an entire neighborhood on lockdown. ktvu's janine de la vega is getting some new information from the scene. you are mere mount pleasant road and rocky mountain drive. what's happening? >> reporter: well, people are being told not to leave their homes. these two men that they are looking for are considered armed and dangerous. they believe that they are hiding out somewhere in this neighborhood here in east san jose, as you mentioned, mount pleasant road, rocky mountain drive. that whole area about 15 minutes ago, they came in here with k-9s. they have three k-9s and are doing a door-to-door search looking in people's yards. let's go to video we shot earlier this morning of the heavy police presence in this neighborhood.

this all started because at around 4:30 this morning, a 7- eleven on south white road was robbed by two men wearing masks. and the clerk was threatened there with a handgun. then about 20 minutes later, another 7 already eleshen, very close by on -- 7/eleven very close by on martin was robbed matching the same description. and a suspicious person was rowelled in here. that report said there were two suspicious men who looked like they were casing cars. a lieutenant told us this a short time ago about this situation. >> they should be worried. these are armed persons. they were armed with a handgun. we have video that we've already collected that shows them with a handgun. you know, they are brazen enough to walk into a 7/eleven and stick a gun in someone's face and rob them of their

cash. now they are in the neighborhood. we're trying to get them out. >> reporter: and as you can see out here back out live at the scene, you can see there are just many, many police cars, around 40 police officers. they are telling people to stay inside. they are doing that on a case- by-case basis. about 40 homes affected. this is very close to robert sanders elementary school. now, fortunately, this school is on spring break. so there's no school today. there was some concern earlier today that the school might not open but, again, no students or anybody is threatened in this situation because the school is closed. we will continue to update this situation and tell you if police have, indeed, caught the suspects they are looking for. descriptions are very vague. all we know, two asian men wearing dark clothing. at one point they did have masks. they were wearing hoodies but

that's all we know. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we'll check back for an update soon. new details are emerging about a suspicious man seen lurking around a san leandro school. he's suspected of lewd behavior at dayton elementary. tara moriarty is live from the school where we're learning a grandmother actually caught the man in the act. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. the man was seen peering at a kindergarten class and touching himself inappropriately. this was so brazen because apparently it was happening feet from parents who were standing by waiting to pick their children up from school. this happened wednesday afternoon around 1:45. a grandmother noticed a suspicious man standing in the main school hallway here at 1500 daytop avenue. the witness says that he was looking through a window into a patio area where kindergarteners were playing and appeared to be touching

himself. when the man saw the witness looking at him, he walked off campus. now, that man is described as latino between 58 and 65 years old wearing a red windbreaker with black sleeves, black pants with a thin, white stripe and a black baseball cap. police have not been able to confirm if the suspect is a parent or guardian of a student at dayton but he has been seen on campus before. the grand mother told the principals about incident right away but investigators were not immediately notified. that grandmother was upset that police did not learn about the incident until a day later. we did reach out to the school principal. we're hoping to talk to him. as far as security goes, there are no guards on campus. we're told there is a patrolman that goes around the area to make sure the kids are crossing the street safely, that type of thing. as is usual for elementary school campuses, there is no security guard. we're live in san leandro, tara

moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. happening now in oakland, the doors are open at the arena for people who camped out in the rain for hours in order to get free healthcare. ktvu's alex savidge is there now live with more on what to expect once you get inside. alex? >> reporter: well, for those without healthcare coverage events like this are a life line. you can see the need that's out here. a lot of people anxious to get inside. hundreds of them lined up here. they are waiting to get inside the concourse area where this free health clinic will be getting underway shortly. the gates -- the front doors are supposed to open at 7:00 this morning but volunteers are still inside doing some last- minute preparation work right now. so the doors have not quite opened yet for people to come in side and begin receiving care. medical, dental services being offered at this event called bridges to health. inside here, more than 500 healthcare professionals and

other volunteers will be donating their time. among other things, people can get routine checkups, x-rays, physical therapy and dental work done. a short time ago, we talked with one of the doctors taking part in this event. he came down here all the way from placerville to offer his services. >> we're trying to provide as broad a spectrum of services to people that we can. >> we've touched so many lives. it's been great. >> reporter: this entire event is put on by a group that's affiliated with the seventh-day adventist church. you are looking inside the coliseum. these are the hun treads of volunteers who will be putting on this free healthcare clinic today. it's called bridges to health and they are just getting everything all set up herele and they do expect to open the doors to the public very shortly. this event, in case you are wondering and in case you are interesting, it continues throughout the day until 2:00

this afternoon. we're live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, alex. also happening now -- a free den clinic is underway at -- dental clinic is underway at the solano county fairgrounds. people have been camped out since yesterday. the event takes place today and tomorrow. more than 2,000 people are expected to get dental treatment. it appears there are healthcare websites with far worse glitches than the federal government. oregon, in fact, could dump its entire troubled online exchange today in favor of the federal marketplace. oregon has already spent $250 million and would need another $50 follow repairs. it would only cost $6 million to switch to the federal healthcare website. hawaii, maryland and massachusetts have encountered similar problems and may also join the federal system. 7:11. a warning for parents about

7:14. we're following breaking news from east san jose. as we mentioned at the top of the hour, the -- there is a huge police manhunt underway right now for two armed robbery suspects and that has this neighborhood in lockdown. the search is taking place near mountain pleasant road and rocky mountain drive and again the entire neighborhood is locked down. people are not allowed to leave their homes at this point. you can see it's still a very active scene. some police cars there at the street corner. ktvu's janine de la vega is on

the scene talking to police right now and she'll have a live update on the search for these two armed robbery suspects coming up at 7:30. three of the 12 people who were injured yesterday in a school bus crash in southern california remain hospitalized. this is video of the driver being pulled from the wreckage yesterday. this was in anaheim hills. 11 students from a local middle school were on board. witnesses saw the bus traveling downhill at a high rate of speed, going airborne and hitting a few trees before crashing into a tall eucalyptus. the driver and two students were criticically injured. the others sustained minor injuries. the exact cause of the crash is under investigation. a big natural gas explosion in washington state destroyed three buildings and damaged several more. take a look at some new video we just got this in. this is out of north bend, about 30 miles east of seattle. people in the area heard a loud

explosion moments before a strip mall burst into flames. people were evacuated from their homes because a gas station is nearby. authorities think the explosion was centered in either a pizza shop that was undergoing renovation or a barber shop. some minor injuries have been reported from people hit by glass in that explosion. the cause of the blast is still being investigated. two more bodies were recovered today from that sunken ferry boat in south korea. so far now, 133 bodies have been found. another 119 people are still missing. they are presumed dead. investigators are looking into what that ferry boat was carrying besides people. the experts are speculating the cargo exceeded the weight limit of the ship. that may have caused the ship to capsize. 7:16. the menlo park police department is liking facebook for theying them open a new police station. it's set to open tomorrow. the new substation is located

just a half-mile from facebook's headquarters and is funded by the tech giant. it will have a fingerprint station and a booking camera but will not be equipped to house prisoners. the center will feature free public wi-fi and an atm. the city had been trying to build the substation for more than a decade but was not able to do so because of a lack of funding. a unique job opportunity has popped up in san francisco for anyone who enjoys even eating brunch. a liquor company known as aparol is looking for a chief brunch officer. a couple of people are raising their hands, in several major cities. the person would promote a drink that's similar to a mimosa. applicants must have experience at winning in life and have a killer sense of humor. to apply, post a 15-second video on instagram with the hashtag brunchforaliving and

time into san francisco. highway 13 to 24 in oakland, we've had an overturned pickup truck, not causing a big delay. but these are the kind of things that can happen as we go through and the wed roads. 880 southbound, slow from about 238 down into union city and in san jose, 85 is slow after 87 but the slowdowns in the santa clara valley are not as deep as they are -- or they have been earlier this week. 7:19. let's go to steve. a lot of cloud cover and some pretty good rain reports coming in from san francisco. we'll show you that in just a second. our system is arriving. it's been light rain. it's starting to pick up especially from daly city to the city. rain reports from santa rosa to san jose. everybody is in on this light rain. some of it is moderate. cloudy, cool, light rain. pockets of moderate rain. i went around hayward and san leandro. 50s on the temperatures. then the isolated thunderstorms and cooler air spills in this afternoon. really active day. reports from the marina,

nicole, bernal heights,usf, sunset district, pockets of moderate to heavy rain. you can see some of that right there over the richmond district and over north beach. a couple of reports there. even into marin county. from santa rosa, st. helena south, picking up. name looks like american canyon to hidden brook. and then right over mill valley between mill valley also san rafael. any time you get the yellow coming in around the beach. picking up over mount tam. that's not bad. that's more of a moderate rate. where tara moriarty was, that's the cell that -- right there. in between san leandro and hayward. right there. it looks like it's collapsing. another one coming in to el granada, half moon bay heading towards hillsborough, san mateo. there's pocketing here the front is getting closer. 50s on the temperatures. 52 santa rosa. everybody is close on that.

walker in east oakland. police arrested two suspects in the death of judy solomon shot and killed last july on fern street. the shooting happened after solomon shot her car to shoot cell phone video of a street crime. she reportedly shot the suspects who shot her and escaped with her phone. stephen lee and mario floyd have been charged with several crimes including murder in the course of a robbery. lee is serving time in san quentin on unrelated charges. both suspects have been linked an east oakland gang and are scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges next week. oakland police are crediting solomon for trying to stop crime in the neighborhood but they say she may still be alive if she called 911 instead of following the suspects herself. however, some of the neighbors say a shortage of police officers has left them no

choice but to investigate crimes on their own. >> opd is tremendously understaffed. there are not enough officers to go around oakland patrolling. so that means it's up to the citizens to be the eyes and ears for opd. some of the neighborhoods have set up e-mail lists where crimes and suspicious behavior can be reported. homeowners have installed surveillance cameras even hired private security guards in some cases. a bill that would require anti-theft software on all cell phones has been rejected by the state senate. the bill would have required cell phone companies to put a kill switch on cell phones to make them inoperable. the bill's author, mark leno, blames the powerful cell phone lobby for the bill's failure. the proposal will likely be reintroduced, though, later this spring. if you thought listening to barney's "i love you" song was torture, try listening it for 24 hours straight.

through walnut creek and la fayette. 15, 20-minute drive time on the way to the caldecott which is worse than normal. bay bridge, we have backup on a friday shouldn't be this heavy. but people are slowing down. it is backed up for a 35-minute drive time. a lot of the people have been complaining about 880 leading down to the bay bridge. maybe something has changed or maybe traffic has become busier because the 880 ramps to the bay bridge have been very, very slow for the last few weeks. 7:34. back to the desk. we're following breaking news coming in from east san jose. a huge police manhupt happening right now -- manhunt happening right now for two armed robbery suspects, near mount pleasant road and rocky mountain drive. police are telling everybody to stay inside. ktvu's janine de la vega, you are there now getting new information from police. what are they saying? >> reporter: you know, they have a heavy police presence out here. they don't want anyone to leave their homes. i counted just 13 police cars,

patrol cars on the street. in the last 40 minutes, they brought in k-9s into this neighborhood because they are going door to door searching through people's yards. looking for two men who they believe are responsible for robberies that happened earlier this morning. they are concerned with people's safety out here. let's go to video that we took earlier. police believe the two men they are looking for robbed a 7- eleven at 4:30 a.m. and threatened a clerk with a handgun. 20 minutes later, another 7- eleven on martin was robbed by two men at gunpoint. they took a large amount of cash and lottery tickets. officers believe it is the same two men that robbed both of those 7-elevens. police got a call from a concerned neighbor. >> police believe they were casing cars. however, they fit the descriptions of the persons that robbed the 7- eleven

nearby. officers came in, spotted them, ordered them to stop and they immediately ran into the neighborhood. and right now as i mentioned, a door-to-door search is happening. the area that they have cordoned off is mount pleasant, rocky mountain drive and mount kenna to the northwest. it seems about 36 to 40 homes may be affected. we've seen some people emerge from their front doors. people have allowed some people to leave but they need to be cleared by officers before they can reeve-- leave. they want to make sure everybody is safe. there is robert sanders elementary school here. it's on spring break. there was some concern earlier that maybe the school wouldn't be able to open. it's already closed. so there's no worry about that, of students being in any harm. but the men should be considered armed and dangerous.

they have a very vague description of two asian or latino men. they were both wearing masks. they were wearing hoodies and again doing a door-to-door search in the neighborhood hoping to find them. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. thank you, janine. 7:37. new this morning, firefighters in san francisco responded to three fires within the past 90 minutes. one of them may have been sparked by a marijuana grow house. the first fire started an hour ago on mendel street in the bayview district. firefighters say they did find a marijuana grow operation inside that house. within 20 minutes of that fire, firefighters responded to two other fires. one on nay street and the other on banks street. we're told the fires are not related. there is new -- there is a new report about the teenaged

who flew to hawaii in the wheel gel of a jet. the an individual tells a paper her ex-husband did everybody possible to keep her away from her children even telling them she was killed in a rocket attack. the woman said her son only found out two years ago that she was actually alive. she believes he may have climbed into the wheel well in a desperate attempt to visit her overseas. the teen lives with his father, stepmother and younger siblings in santa clara. he's still undergoing treatment at a hospital in hawaii. well, now we know that it was a san jose state university football player who suffered second-degree burns in an apartment fire we first told you about on yesterday morning's news. 20-year-old jared leaf of martinez, he's a line backer. he ran through a wall of flames inside his apartment to escape.

he has second-degree burns over 20% of his body. he remains in critical condition at valley medical center. investigators think his roommate may have started the fire by throwing away a match near a couch. 11 students living in the building were burned out of their homes. 7:39. happening now -- some of the world's top women golfers are hitting the links in daly city. play is resuming after it was suspended last night due to darkness. ktvu's brian flores is live at the lake merced golf club with the return of the women's professional golf to the bay area. the excitement must be building. >> reporter: it is building. you need to be out here as well. i understand you are a pretty good golfer yourself. hopefully you can come out for the swinging skirts lpga tour. going on this weekend. a lot of the hpga's finest female golfers on the putting green before they hit the greens. many hit the greens this morning despite the rain.

cases and 58 in california. many of them are a result of people visiting the philippines which has a major measles outbreak. visitors can get the measles and possibly infect those who have not been vaccinated. measles is one of the most contagious cases. the last death reported in this country was in 2005. a mother in martinez says her children are living proof the vaccine that's supposed to protect against whooping cough does not always work. the mother says, she, her 9- year-old son and 3-year-old daughter had been vaccinated but the children came down with whooping cough anyway. the centers for disease control says this is a rare case. 90% of the children who do get the shot are protected. >> there's no one to claim. what needs to be done is get a

minutes. they still haven't found the two armed men. they believe that they are hiding in this neighborhood. they've been on mount kenya, the road you are looking at right now for the past hour and a half. they are doing a yard search right now. they brought in three k-9s. there are patrol cars on every corner here because these two men are considered druts. there is a heavy police presence here in the mount pleasant neighborhood of east san jose because officers believe these two men threatened two different 7- eleven clerks with a handgun this morning and robbed their stores. the first robbery happened at 4:30 a.m. on white road. the second robbery, that was a few miles away happened at 5:00 a.m. on martin avenue. a neighbor in the mount pleasant and rocky mountain drive neighborhood reported two suspicious men casing cars in the area and when police arrived, these two men ran away and started hopping over fences. that's why police say those men match the same description of

the robbery suspects. that's what's really prompted a lockdown in this neighborhood. >> we just need people to sit tight, keep their doors and homes locked. if they hear any sounds or suspicious sound or see anything, call 911. but for now, sit tight. let us do our job. let us get these people out of the neighborhood. >> reporter: the area affected isment pleasant and martin -- is mount pleasant and martin to the east and rocky mountain drive and mount kenya to the west. dozens of homes have been impacted. police are concerned with people's safety. they are telling people they can't leave their homes and go to work unless they've been cleared by officers. there is robert sanders elementary school here right now next door. luckily this school is on spring break. but there's no impact for any of the students who attend the school here. we'll continue to monitor this situation. police say they will be out here for the next 45 minutes before they consider breaking

guardian of a student noticed a suspicious man standing in the main school hallway at 1500 dayton avenue. the witness says he was looking through a window into a patio area where the kindergarteners were playing and appeared to be touching themselves. when the man saw the witness looking at him, he walked off campus. he's described as 50, 60, wearing a red windbreaker, and wearing a black baseball cap. police have not been able to confirm if he was a student or guardian because he's been seen on campus before. the grandmother told the principals about the incident right away. the grand mother was apparently upset that police did not learn about the incident until an entire day later. we've reached out to the school principal. a lot of teachers are beginning to arrive. we do know there is not really security on the campus. there is a patrol officer who makes sure that the kids cross

and found they were both in jail on unrelated crimes. 26-year-old lois reever is charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. robert even bertowski, accessory to a crime. aldon smith will not be charged with a fell nhl for allegedly making a fake bomb threat at l.a.x. he was arrested for reportedly telling a tsa agent he had a bomb. the district attorney decided not to pursue a felony charge but he could still face a misdemeanor charge. a decision is expected in about a week or two. smith still is facing felony weapons charges in santa clara county. the menlo park police department is liking facebook for helping them open a new police station. >> it's set to open tomorrow. the new substation is located just a half-mile from facebook's headquarters. and it is funded by facebook. it will have a fingerprint station and a booking camera

happening today -- the obama administration announcing a plan to rate teacher training programs. now, the idea is to make the programs more accountable for the teachers they train and send out. training programs would be rated in categories, including the number of teachers they help to get a job, the percentage of teachers who pass licensing exams and their performance scores. later this morning, the woman accused of trying to sneak on the planes at sfo is scheduled to face a judge. 62-year-old marilyn hartman was arrested twice earlier this month. police say she told them she had cancer and wanted to fly some place warn. but then she changed her story and said she was not trying to

earlier today, san leandro, hayward, a pretty good cell that went over there. tara moriarty tweeted out it's pouring here. well, it was. there's areas getting pretty good rain, our observer in danville, 16/100ths. i saw the same at lexington reservoir. the gutters are moving for some. our system is producing snow up in the sierra nevada. this system has is secondary. that will give us some more rain. kensington. crockett. american canyon, hidden brook and also to vallejo. that's one area where we're getting moderate rain. back to 280 and then highway 1 you can see half moon bay, el granada. the one over vallejo is there. there's american canyon and back over towards el saab and also el cerrito as well. danville, san ramon. quiet towards antioch, brentwood, a little bit of light rain and to the north

bay, there's pretty good rain. these cells are starting to get intense. look at that line stretching. highway 35 back to the coastline. there are a few areas where it will be raining heavily. other areas cloudy skies and breeze. there will be another system on sunday morning and then it's out of here. cloudy with rain. occasionally heavy. 50s and low 60s. here's sal. well, steve, the rain has made the commute not very good in many areas. getting to marin county out of the richmond area is not doing well. the slow traffic at the toll plaza, but what we can't see, it's also slow across the entire bridge because of a crash at sir francis drake on the other side of the bridge in marin county and by the way, southbound 101 today from novato to san rafael, not doing well either. it's one of those days where the wet weather has slowed traffic down. people do drive slower in the rain.

let's take a look now at the commute at the bay bridge toll plaza. steady 30 minutes. sometimes 35-minute drive time between oakland and san francisco with no major problems. i do want to mention that traffic on the nimitz freeway continues to be very slow from 238 all the way up into downtown oakland. i'm also looking offcamera and it confirms what the map is showing. it's bad. 580 is slow coming out of the edwards area or the keller area all the way out to the lakeshore curve. let's go back to the desk. we're still following breaking news from san jose. right now an entire neighborhood is on lockdown. police are searching for two armed robbery suspects. this is affecting more than two dozen homes around martin avenue and mount pleasant road. now, janine de la vega is there at the scene. people are being told to stay inside. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. that's right. it appears that this operation

is winding down. in the last minute, we saw this group of officers that you see here with a k-9 walking back from the neighborhood that they were doing the yard -- stoiching yards. they brought in three k-9s to go door to door and search for these two men but they have not found them yet. let's go to some video that we shot earlier this morning where you can see there has been a heavy police presence in the mountain pleasant neighborhood in east san jose because officers believe that these two men threatened two separate 7- eleshen parks with a -- 7- eleven clerks with a handgun. a neighbor in the mount pleasant and rocky mountain drive neighborhood reported two suspicious men matching the description of the robbers casing cars in that same area. when police arrived, those two men ran away and started

hopping over fences. that's what prompted the lockdown in the neighborhood. >> the persons believed they were casing cars, burglarizing cars. however, they fit the description of the person who robbed the 7-eleven nearby. officers came in to investigate the suspicious persons, spotted them and ordered them to stop. they immediately ran into the neighborhood. >> and the area affected has been mount pleasant and martin to the southeast and rocky mountain drive and mount kenya to the northwest. dozens of homes have been impacted but as i mentioned, just in the past five minutes or so we have seen a lot of these officers who were doing the search with their k-9s come back to this intersection. it appears that they are wrapping you. we've not seen -- wrapping up. we've not seen any suspects in custody. right now it looks like they are sort of reeral waiting what they were gonna do, if they are gonna keep up the perimeter.

we do know they have surveillance video from the 7- elevens showing the two men wearing masks, waving the handgun in the video and threatening the clerk. hoe are hoping that will help in the investigation. as far as suspect descriptions, it's very vague. they've just been saying two asian adult males, possibly latino, they were wearing dark clothing and hoodies. there's still -- again, they are still searching for these men. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:37. there is a new report on what may have made a teenager fly from san jose to hawaii in the wheel well of a 767 jet. the british tabloid, the daily mail says it spoke by phone of the mother of the 15-year-old stowaway. she tells the paper her ex- husband did everything possible to keep her away from her children, even telling them she had been killed in a rocket attack in somalia in 2006. the woman who lives in a refugee camp in ethiopia says

her son only found out two years ago that she was actually alive. she believes he may have climbed into the wheel well in a desperate attempt to visit her. the teenager lives with his father, his stepmother and younger siblings in santa clara. he's still undergoing treatment in a hospital in hawaii. 8:38. new this morning, a high- jacking scare when a passenger on a virgin australia flight tried to break into the cockpit. the flean was flying from australia to bali. when the pilot heard the passenger banging on the pock kit -- cockpit door, he set a hijack alert to air traffic control. the flight crew figured out the passenger was just drunk and handcuffed him. the plane landed safely at the bali airport. the passenger was arrested. he's been identified as a 28- year-old man from australia. 8:38. pleasanton police are warning parents that someone is targeting teenagers on social media asking them to share explicit photos of themselves. the pleasanton school district

said several students reported they were solicited on instagram for the photos. the school district sent out a warning letter advising them to talk with their children about internet safety. >> you don't know these people. they could be potentially harmful. >> unfortunately, i think many learn the hard way. it's a different world. it's a world i don't know. >> pleasanton police are working with instagram to identify the accounts and the individuals responsible. the school district believes the person lives outside of the community. now we know it was a san jose state university football player who suffered second- degree burns in an apartment fire we first told you about yesterday on the morning news. 20-year-old jared leaf of martinez, he's a linebacker, he ran through a wall of flames inside his apartment to escape. jared has second-degree burns over 20% of his poddy. he's still in critical condition this morning at

valley medical center. investigators think his roommate may have accidentally started the fire by throwing away a match near a couch. 11 students living in that building were burned out of their homes. the 84-year-old man accused of opening fire at a daly city medical facility could make his first court appearance as early as today. he's still in the county jail after being arrested wednesday night at his daly city home. police say he's a former patient at the medical facility on southgate street and that he fired a shot at one of the doctors working there. but there's still no official word on why the reason why he opened fire. no one was hurt. happening now -- the return of ladies' professional golf to the bay area. despite the rain, excitement is building for the inaugural swinging skirts lpga classic. brian flores is live there where he's giving them a couple

we're following breaking news from east san jose. police there have just called off the search for two armed robbery suspects after failing to find them. people living in the area are being allowed to leave their homes after being told to stay inside because of a mandatory lockdown. the lockdown affected more than two dozen homes in the area of martin avenue and mount pleasant road. police believe the two suspects robbed two 7-eleven stores. one of them was in the lockdown area. there are no reports of any injuries. 78:47. we have new details emerging about a suspicious man seen lurking around a san leandro school. that man suspected of lewd behavior at dayton elementary. ktvu's tara moriarty just talked with parents about this disturbing incident. >> reporter: they say they are angry. they say they weren't notified. a lot of them are starting to drop their kid off. it was a grandmother here of

the student here who said an older man was peering at a kindergarten class while touching himself inappropriately. this happened wednesday afternoon around 1:30 when the student's grandmother noticed the man at dayton school. she said he was looking into a patio area where kindergarteners were playing and when the grandmother saw him and he noticed, he walked off campus. one parent said he only learned about it from our news. >> i found out about this this morning. it was a little startling. i got two kid. my two kids right here that go to the school. i wish i was notified about it when it happened. >> reporter: the man is described as latino, between 58 and 65 years old, wearing a windbreaker with black sleeve, black pants with a thin white stripe on both side and a black
