a suspicious man seen on an east bay elementary school campus touching himself inappropriately. when some parents finally found out about the incident.

the rain has arrived. this is what it looks like right now looking out towards the san francisco skyline from our roof camera in oakland. you can really not see too much. it's pretty gray outside. earlier in solano county, the rain was coming down. this video was taken over an hour ago. we have ktvu team coverage on the rain and wet conditions. brian flores went on a ride along with chp this morning to see how drivers are handling the slick roadways. bewe begin with -- we begin with rosemary in the ktvu news center. >> wet around the bay area. snow in the sierra. let's get into the radar. we'll take a look at where it is at this point. the steady rain has moved on. that's what we had earlier this morning during the morning drive. you can see now on and off spotty showers. if we head into the north bay, got some light rain falling in areas around santa rosa, guerneville picking up light showers as we stretch south just a little bit. we have rain falling in and

around the san rafaelaryia. it looks like right across the golden gate bridge. tiburon you are included in there. the richmond bridge. bay bridge, san francisco into oakland we have some there as well. had some in the south bay. a little bit earlier. as we shift a little bit, we have rain in the central valley. light to moderate rain falling east of vallejo. along i-80 could be a little bit dicey in and around areas along the american canyon heading towards cordelia. we're going to continue with this. we've got snow in the sierra up to a foot of snow possible so if you are thinking about heading this way for the weekend, there is a winter weather advisory. it lasts until tomorrow morning for treacherous driving. we'll have snow on the roadways there blowing snow definitely a possibility for the west slope and the tahoe area. so take it very easy as you get out that way. it will be hazardous. i want to point you to the center of the circulation. this is moving close to the bay area. as it does, it's going to bring with it the possibility of

thunderstorms. we will continue tracking this route. when i come back, we'll take a look at how much rainfall has fallen so bad. we'll pinpoint this system when i expect it move out of the way and in the weekend froost we have another one coming. i will time it out. the rain is making it very dangerous on bay area roadways. the chp reports double the number of accidents and fender- bender during rainy days. brian flores went with a ride along with the chp to show us how dangerous it is and joins us live. >> reporter: good afternoon. it was pretty dangerous. a lot of dangerous drivers out there. we went on the ride along for 30 minutes. we saw plenty of drivers who were disstrarblthed, to not having head lites on going way too fast. if we take a look at the eastshore freeway in berkeley, you will probably see some of the drivers. >> you need to have your headlights on when it's raining and when you in the tunnel and you cannot have two ear bugs in

when you are driving. >> reporter: we drove along highway 24 an hour and a half ago with the officer. the roads were slick from the rain. but from the oakland chp office to orinda, we saw drivers driving way too dangerously. the chp says when you have your windshield wipers on, you need to have your headlights on as well. you could be ticketed for not doing that. we had a driver cut in front of our cruiser. it didn't signal as well. it's not only illegal but it can be dangerous. they say there's a problem with drivers not taking care of their cars, including checking their tires. what it boils down to, going too fast. >> sudden braking, acceleration, that's how you enter spins. so when you pulled in front of me, you made me slow down. that's an unsafe violation. and didn't have headlights on.

and it's raining. >> reporter: the chp says their response is double the number of accidents or fender-benders during rainy conditions. and then there's the issue of distracted driving which is making driving more dangerous out there especially when it rains. the chp says from midnight to about 11:00 this morning, they responded to about 18 collisions or fender-benders from the rainy conditions. we're live here from berkeley, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. and follow our weather team on facebook for updated information on the rain. we're always here for you at ktvu.or you can download our app. surveillance camera of what police say are two robbers tearing through a san jose neighborhood after holding up two nearby 7-eleven stores. the search for the robbers triggered a neighborhood lockdown. police set up a perimeter in this area of rocky mountain drive, martin and mount pleasant road near the 7-eleven that was robbed. janine de la vega was there as

police searched the neighborhood neighborhood and talked to some shaken up residents and joins us live. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. this neighborhood is quiet. but police are keeping their eye out because this is where they say that two men who are considered armed and dangerous were hiding. a family here believes that they caught one of the suspects on camera. the family inside this home was sleeping but woke up after hearing noise. >> he tripped over something when he was running that way. that's when we woke up. he ran that way and he went to the fence. >> reporter: police believe the man in the video could be one of two suspects who robbed two separate 7-elevens at gunpoint. the first happened at this store on south white at 4:30,

and then the 7-eleven a mile and a half away were robbed. the men were wearing masks. the men had a handgun. they matched the description of suspicious men seen casing cars in the neighborhood after the robberies. >> officers came in to investigate the suspicious persons, spotted them, and ordered them to stop and they ran. >> reporter: police flooded the area. the neighborhood was put on lockdown and k-9s were brought it to -- brought in to do a search of the yard. >> we have video that we've already collected that shows them with a handgun. you know, they are brazen enough to walk into a 7-eleven and stick a gun in someone's face. >> reporter: police searched for several hours and did find some evidence the men were hiding there. >> my dog was gonna go -- my dad was gonna go after them. we told him not to. >> reporter: police are hoping video from the flabd as well as

other -- neighborhood as well as other evidence will help them track down the suspects and help them in their investigation. the descriptions are vague. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, janine. parents at a san leandro school are upset they are not notified sooner about a suspicious man on campus. police say a student's grandmother reported seeing the man and dayton elementary school wednesday afternoon. she says he was looking into a patio area where kindergarteners were playing and was touching himself. when he figured out he had been seen, he walked off campus. >> found out about it this morning, and it was a little startling, you know, because i got two kids. my two kids here go to this school and i wish i was notified about it when it happened. >> the man is described as latino between 58, 60 wearing a red windbreaker with black

sleeves, black pants and a black baseball cap. santa cruz deputies say an intruder entered the bedroom off a 2-year-old drive in fellton. the girl's mother heard the child room and ran into her room. she found the girl out of her crib, lying on the bed and the bedroom window opened. investigators don't have any description of whoever came into the home. new details about the man injured during yesterday morning's apartment fire near san jose state. we've learn med the man is 20- year-old jared leaf, a linebacker on the school's football team. leaf has second-degree burns over 20% of his body and is still in critical condition at valley medical center. investigators think his roommates may have accidentally started the fire by throwing away a match near the couch. an ntsb preliminary report was released today into the deadly bus and truck collision in orland in blen-- glenn

county. the report offered a narrative but nothing about what may have caused the crash. the fed-ex truck crossed into traffic on i-5 and hit the bus before catching fire. both drivers and eight passengers on the bus were killed. ntsb investigators spent days at the scene and also interviewed survivors. the report will be updated throughout the investigation which is expected to take several months. a free healthcare clinic underway right now in oakland. we'll show you the services being offered and how many people are there right now and how many people got turned away. plus a warning for parents in the east bay. why school officials say someone is preying on students through a popular social media app. [dad] [laughs]

harmful. >> unfortunately, i think american the hard way. it's a different world. it's a world i don't know. >> pleasonton police are working with instagram to identify the account and the individual responsible. the school district believes the person lives outside of the community. happening now -- about a thousand people in need of  healthcare services are packed inside the coliseum in oakland this noontime for a free clinic. alex savidge is there live to show us the incredible turnout for this event. good afternoon, alex. >> reporter: well, a total of about 3500 people came down here today seeking free healthcare. about 2500 of those people actually had to be turned away. for the people who made it inside, though, they are certainly grateful. one gentleman right here is being screened by an optometrist as we speak. for the people inside, this is a life line, really. lot of them lack health coverage and this is their only

option. patients poured into the concourse this morning ready to be treated by one of the hundreds of doctors and dents, volunteer -- dentists volunteering their time for this free health clinic. most people came here for dental service including this man who had a painful tooth taken care of. >> although it's free, it's awesome. a lot of friends i met out in the parking lot, same situation. i work two jobs. both my jobs don't provide medical insurance. >> reporter: this event is called bridges to health. it's put on by a group afailated with the 7th day adventist church. they are performing physicals, providing x-rays. >> we're trying to provide as broad of a spectrum of services as we can. >> we've touched so many life, it's opinion great. >> reporter: the geal here, fill in the groups -- goal here, fill in the fans for

those people with little or no health coverage. the event is first come, first served. that's why many started to line uplast night at the gates. they camped out in the rain until the doors opened. >> [inaudible] >> i've been preparing for job interviews and stuff. that would be a good start for me. i would be able to see them. >> reporter: it will be a long day for the medical professionals here at this event. they will likely be here until the early evening treating people. there still are peepshowing up at the door. they are having to be turned away. they just don't have the resources and the time really to treat all of the people showing up. but the group putting on the event says they will be back in the bay area putting on another free clinic sometime next year. we're live in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. students in oakland received a hands-on lesson in

conservation this morning. they took part in a tree planting ceremony at jefferson elementary school. it's part of oakland's asher day celebration. for 20 years, they've been operating an environmental education program for students. >> since california has been cutting a lot of trees we're try doing conservation and preservation for the trees so they will be healthier and grow bigger. >> students day helped plant 11 trees along the street in front of jefferson elementary. the lpga have returned to the prayer. the best women are out in deal city city afternoon. the second round of the inaugural swinging skirts is underway at the lake merced golf club. more than 120 golfers are taking part. they include a lot of local talent like michelle wie, christina kim, paula creamer

windsor area. perhaps moderate rain falling. we have a got this in and around healdsburg. this is pushing through your area. there's more to come. that's offshore. for today, again, that steady rain has moved on. but we will continue with just these spotty showers hit and miss, maybe dry for a little while and then you walk outdoors and it starts to rain on you again. giving you a look over parts of the north bay, from novato, san rafael, tiburon, sausalito along the sonoma coast here. stretching across the richmond/san rafael prige and into the east bay -- bay bridge, and into the east bay, we have rain. highway 24, it's a wet dry. alamo you look like you are wet. the east bayshore line, oakland, into san leandro, you will find it wet here along 880. slick roads continuing for your afternoon has we shift south a little bit here, the peninsula looks mostly cloudy but mainly dry. in and around san jose mainly dry. i'm gonna back it up here and show you that the center of

circulation with the coldest most unstable air right about here. so this is what is still moving our way. this will bring us the possibility of those thunderstorms. so it could get a little interesting as we get into the afternoon, hail, brief downpours and lightning and thunder a possibility there. here's a look at the totals we've seep so far, any from 4/10 in napa. .25 san rafael. hayward .10 so far. almost 2/10 in san jose and .25 reported over the santa cruz mountains. as we get into the afternoon, more of the same. hit or miss. ear into the eveningive -- we're into the evening drive and this continues. gonna see the giants? there's a chance of a few scattered showers in the forecast. as we get going tomorrow morning, we're dry. saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy. cool. the second round of rain comes in early sunday morning. by noontime it's out of here. early sunday morning will be our next chance at getting rain for your weekend forecast. if you are gonna see the giants

stocks falling on wall street, escalating tensions between the u.s. and russia over ukraine are weighing on investors as are disappointed news from amazon and ford. amazon's stock is down over 10%. one of the few bright spots, microsoft posted a bigger profit than expected during the first quarter under its new ceo. the dow is currently down 140. the nasdaq down 73. s&p down 16. the menlo park face department is liking facebook for helping them open a new police station. the new station opens tomorrow a half-mile from facebook's headquarters. it will have a fingerprint station and a booking camera but will not be equipped to housers in -- house prisoners. tesla's ceo elon musk made a major announcement this morning saying that his company, space-x, is suing the

federal government over national security contracts. in washington, d.c., musk revealed space-x is filing the suit to protest the lack of competition in contracts for spy agency satellites. he called the no-bid contracts with boeing and lockheed martin unfair. musk said that spats-x the rockets are better and more cost efficient than those being used by the federal government. >> i think the fact that we have a new rocket designed with new manufacturing techniques is very helpful for the cost. i think we have a number of design inknow vakses in the rocket that are -- innovations in the rocket that are helpful for cost. >> he announced that the rocket launch last week made a successful soft landing to earth. he said the rocket was destroyed after landing in a major storm off florida's coast but he hailed the mission as a major breakthrough. social media can be tough to navigate especially when you are being attacked. >> it's so much easier to push a button and say somebody mean
