these streets. >> reporter: the man who helped him went to the hospital because his arm was feeling numb and he was sick. the dog is stable for now and we will keep checking with pg&e on the investigation. cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. following breaking news out of contra costa county. news chopper 2 is over a three car crash on san pab low dam road. just a couple minutes ago they reopened both lanes of the road and they have already towed the cars away. we are told one person was seriously hurt and was taken to the hospital by a helicopter. here is what it looked like a lilt bit ago. you can see the car on the left. the serious impact that the car had here. one person seriously injured. we are working to get more information. as soon as we do we will bring it to you.

with second degree burns over 20% of his body. his roommate may have accidentally started the fire when he dropped a match on to a couch. tonight we are learning about an arrest in connection with a arson in oakland. fire investigators released this surveillance video of a person seen near the building that caught fire. that building belongs to ucsf children's hospital in oakland. investigators said they received several tips that led to the arrest. the 43-year-old is charged with felony arson. vandals strike dozens of times leaving neighbors to pick up the pieces tonight. many people in antioch woke up to smashed windows. the damage occurred -- ktvu's john sasaki spoke to neighbors and police about the unusually large path of broken glass.

john? >> reporter: the most common item used was a river rock like this one but in one case the vandals threw this statue through the window of a car. >> reporter: this played out over antioch this morning. people cleaning up the mess caused by vandals. >> i don't understand why anyone could do this. it is stupid. ruthless. evil. >> reporter: 1:30 a.m. this morning someone was smashing wondose on cars -- windows on cars and trucks and homes. >> it was random. this is the first incident like this we had this year. in the last couple years. >> reporter: he had two weeks damaged. this truck has three windows broken and a handa that has this statue thrown through the window. >> threw a statue through it honda.

africa. the teen found out his father lied when he said his mother was killed years ago. in an interview with voice of america from ethiopia she said her ex-husband took their children to california without her knowledge. she is worried about her son. police say a man charged at officers so they shot him. now that man filed a lawsuit charging excessive force. he filed a suite naming the city, the police department and the officers who shot him as defendants. he said he was armed with only a broom when police shot him three times last year outside his home. police say he also had a knife. she charged with. new at 6:00 p.m. burglars picked the wrong house. instead of getting computers or tvs they got chased off by the homeowner. ktvu's ann rubin is live where she spoke to the man who wasn't going to let them get away. >> reporter: he was afraid of what they were going to get away with so he tried to stop them. he didn't have a plan, he just reacted. >> reporter: he thinks the burglars broke in here and

began ransacking his place. he doubts they were inside long when he got home. >> everything was off the table. everything on the floor. it is a mess. there were two of them. they emptied his drawers. >> files here and files there. nothing big. probably looking for iphones and computers. i got zero of them. >> reporter: what they took was this. his 22 rifle which he bought in 1967 when he got out of the army. >> i went after. didn't want that on the street. >> reporter: he is 71 years old and gave chase. he guesses the burglar was probably a teenager he nearly caught him. >> he knew that if he didn't drop it i was going to catch him so he dropped it. hurt myself a little bit but i am all right. >> reporter: he recovered the gun, scared off the burglars and became a neighborhood hero. >> i think he is wonderful.

but they found clothes. >> reporter: we are learning more about a shooting where the gunman is an 84-year-old man. prosecutors say raymond iwase was looking to kill dr. wong when he opened fire wednesday. the 84-year-old man is charged with attempted pre-meditated murder and felony assault with a firearm. prosecutors say raymond iwase was a patient of dr. wong's. >> went up and said to him out loud, you know, you gave me a shot couple years ago and i am still in pain. >> dr. wong was not hit but the shooting led to a lock down while police cleared the building and searched for the gunman. he is being held without bail. a businessman has been indicted by a grand jury in a money laundering scheme. he accepted more than half a

million dollars from a under cover agent posing as a drug dealer and he is accused of trying to launder the money. he is scheduled to be arraigned june 5. now to new information on the california drought on a day that brought rain to the bay area. officials say the snow pack has been melting dramatically. it varies but more than half of the winter snow has melted in the past three weeks. that snow pack would normally provide water much later in the year. people will have to keep cutting back their water use to get us through the drought. >> we don't know how long it will last. lots of questions. that is why we are trying to take measures to make sure we have enough water for next year. >> east bad mud is asking its customer -- east bay mud is asking its customers to cut
