mc. >> my ears are ringing real bad. real loud in the car but, hey, team penske gave me a phenomenal car. the short run speed was great. long run speed not so good and had a couple of short runs at the end able to drive up towards the front. >> what happened with matt? you went up to matt. >> you know, i had a shot at winning the race and felt like he ran me off the track. you know, you race to win and he was definitely racing to win. you hope when somebody races to win that they at least win the race if they're going to wreck you or run you off the racetrack. mind-boggling move. i made sure and got him back and made sure my teammate could win and happy for joey logano. for them to get two whips, slugging away hard. make a move like that, you know when you're going to win a race, not when you're going to keep someone else from winning the race. that's all he did. got to put that in the bank and remember it. >> thanks, brad. >> steve byrnes. >> krista, with matt kenseth, curious your point of view. brad keselowski called your move

mind-boggling. >> well, i mean i did move in three but we're racing for a win. the track was wide enough and did drive under and get a slide job, absolutely trying to watch both lanes and i was trying to win the race. i think that's all five of us were trying to do so just disappointing that it wrecked my car so i don't think that's very cool but obviously i could have gave him more room but had a lane to the straightaway and just raced harr for the win so feel bad for my home depot guys. they did a great job with our car. >> thank you, matt. chris myers. >> all right, thank you very much. the tempers. richmond short track racing how people retaliate. we'll get back to some of the other stories in that ambrose/pearce story but check in with the victor and matt yocum is down there with joey logano.

>> before tonight joey logano had never led a lap in sprint cup. at richmond, now do you lead a lap you lead the most exciting near the finish. could that be any more dramatic and fun. >> this is probably one of my worst racetracks but not today. told my crew chief, best car i've ever had. doesn't feel like the old richmond that i'm not used to being good at. really good pennzoil ford. what a crazy finish. i had a bad restart. man, i screwed up here, i'm not going to win and then, you know, once at the started batting ahead of me and blocking the two in the top and able to, you know, make capitalize i was age to get air on the bottom and make the pass, got it forward. shell, pennzoil, hertz, sprint, all the guys that have helped us out and the fans that stuck around. one heck of a racetrack and race

and pretty cool to stand at a racetrack you're not very good at. >> was confidence high knowing that the 22 car was strong and kept getting restart after restart after restart. >> i was good for 20 laps and went away. i don't know where the 20 came from. he came out of nowhere and we had that caution 20 to go falling in my hands, had to make sure i had a restart that was good which i didn't and get into victory lane twice already so this is such a huge deal. this is so cool. >> joey logano scores his first career win on a short track. i have fifth total. jeff hammond. >> those are the last few laps, wild and crazy. what was going on with your 8. >> a lot of brake problems with the car and the fluid bowled over on that last caution. i couldn't keep the pedal up so real loose getting into the corner and trying to run seventh was all i could do. just try not to fall back worse

than that. they were fine, the run before when we were racing with matt and i thought we had a little bit better car than him in the middle of the corner but that caution they bowled over, brake problems earlier, last 150, 200 laps, the fluids black and steve says it bowled over a couple of times so we got a lot of rubber built up on the brake duct and grill so got real hot. >> a lot of emotion at the end of the race too. >> yeah, the 2 is mad at the 20. and so he slammed on brakes after the checkered and, you know, 47 run into the 20. i ran into the 20. that was -- i don't know what that was all about. you know, get over it. that's how i feel. >> thanks, man. >> all right, steve and dale earnhardt jr., but, again, drivers are in the middle and watch some of this back and try to tig out what happened. >> they were two and three wide at richmond battling for a win. that was good stuff, man. >> we know this, joey logano now has five career wins on five

the post race show continues from richmond, virginia. joey logano, the winner, jeff gordon, why they got second followed by kyle busch and brad keselowski. and after nine races, you see those two wins, logano and harvick, have them in the bag and your points leader, jeff gordon who thought -- in fact, he led the most tonight, 173 the most -- last season he didn't. disappointment for him. let's check in with krista voda. >> another great run for jeff gordon, great car and fantastic on restarts tonight, unfortunately not the win but another great run. >> well, you know, that's restarts are something that we're really add perhaps about this year because it was definitely hurting us last year and tonight we really didn't have a good short run car. we got a really good long run car or about 40, 50 laps, the best car out there.

i had a blast tonight. great short track racing here at richmond and to have a race car like that to drive from 25th up to the front like that with so much fun and, you know, joey was in the right place, had a good short run car and battling it out. matt was making his car super wide which you got to do to try to win and, you know, we're just battling hard and just didn't come down the way we needed it to. we needed a longer run but thanks to pepsi max, everybody, chevrolet, we're having so much fun right now. valvoline and just can't thank this team tough for their incredible effort and pit stops, everything, just showing up at the racetrack with cars capable of winning, a matter of time before we do win? that win is coming for sure. >> well, kyle busch given credit for third place, wild finish here at richmond. from your point of view talk about the final laps. >> man, i really came down for

four tires, and to win -- when the restart happened everybody shoveled to the bottom and i'm like, okay, fine, i'm going around the top and put it on keel out there and drove it like a bad one and there's a lot of crazy stuff. just those eight laps they had on tires in front of us looked like they had 80 laps on theirs the way i could drive through with stickers, unbelievable day. i mean we did not deserve a third but we'll take it. got a win so we took that gamble and it almost paid off for us. if they would have raced up front a few more laps and joey and jeff could have gotten bottled up i could have raced them for a win and couldn't chase them down. >> like a bad mo-fo. >> that's right. >> all right. >> and look at the celebration. burned off his tires. logano had toññ]m walk into it.

it's nascar on fox and the post temper activity, this is casey mears and marcos ambrose in a battle for 18th, 19th. apparently earlier damage by one car caused on the other. >> marcos is a road racer, look, casey is trying to drag him off and marcos punches him. he didn't want him grabbing him so marcos landed that punch and crews getting involved there and getting beat around a bit. >> and brad keselowski, he was upset trying to finish. we had five drivers going towards -- walking over to matt kenseth and, kenseth at the time leading blocking. we assume you heard brad keselowski talk about that, kenseth saying, hey, i'm just trying to win the race and brad keselowski saying don't just block me. >> i love exactly what matt kenseth did. he's trying to protect the lead and gave room on the outside for brad to get there. brad went into three and can't complete the pass. matt has a strong three and four and jeff gordon is working the bottom so matt is doing everything he can to win the race.

he's leading the race, he can pick his lane. this is a key move i think i appreciate matt for the most. he goes down and a little loose on entry. watch, chris, as they exit turn two to close that door on keselowski. he didn't run out of room. just closed the door. i think brad didn't really -- you're going to have emotions late in the race. i don't think he has a leg to stand on because he's doing all he can do. >> by the way, the guy running fourth here is your winner. >> team penske, both of their wins prior came on last lap passes, logano passing gordon on that final lap to win and here he got through the crowd. jeff gordon winding up second and exciting finish in richmond. time for the toyota let's go places and look ahead ahead to the aaron's 499. matt kenseth who led 35 laps, only toyota leading tonight and when we go to talladega, restrictor plate racing and all bets are off. david ragan won in what was probably the biggest upset at

talladega last year. >> david winning over goliath and took that victory at talladega. don't see that often. talladega is the place where there's going to be a lot of mixing up and a lot of different leaders but usually at the end you can count on one hand the guy you think will be winners. ragan wasn't on that hand. >> does it take on new meaning with the new chase where you win a race and nearly in. >> can you feel it? could you just taste it tonight how bad those guys wanted to win that race, jeff gordon pushing on brad keselowski. matt kenseth moving everybody around and kyle busch started outside the top 15 on that last restart with fresh tires and drove, did he say blindfold. i don't know what he said around the top side of the track in order to grab the third spot. >> it was mo-fo or something like that. keselowski is not only excited about kenseth but for his teammate, the guy he wanted to be part of penske racing, there's brad congratulating tonight's winner, joey logano.

if you were watching nascar on fox tonight the theme was fires and tires and fighting. >> and intense competition? look, this is the tasmanian terror going at it. we weren't able to catch up with them and the winner was neither one. it was joey logano with his second victory of the season. how about the guys with nine races in, michael waltrip who have on the sprint post race show, jimmie johnson, best and highest he got was fifth. jeff gordon, you know he flirted with victory, still the points

leader, tony stewart was not in the picture, matt kenseth and also guys like denny hamlin and kasey kahne. >> how about how close those guys have gotten to wins, though. especially jeff gordon, he's been fast week in and week out right there again with the win. i do interhave a problem with how anyone that was in the battle for that win acted. keselowski was upset because he didn't win, obviously you'll be upset. gordon said we did everything we could to win and joey logano obviously pulled it off. >> kevin harvick told us on the prerace show the restart is the most intense part. we saw some of the aftermath. talladega not the kind of place for payback. that's where we talk about short tracks or that kind of a place but will we see any carryover from guys like brad keselowski or marcos ambrose. >> you saw how things got crowded. that's how crowded it will be for 500 miles at talladega, chris. inches apart at 200 miles an hour. somebody makes the slightest mistake 20 cars can be swept into a crash. things won't let up when we go to alabama next weekend. >> you can certainly appreciate
