the clippers owner is banned for life and can't go to his own team's game. the world is watching as controversy over racist remarks trips the play offs. good evening i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm frank somerville. fans are already aliving for game five of this play off series. heather holmes is live there now where security is tight and heather where some fans are arriving with protest signs. >> reporter: a sign of the donald sterling backlash we found crews today removing a large clipper's banner on the plaza right across the street from the staple center just hours before today's big play off game. the banner that featured forward blake griffin was in

pieces headed if -- for the trash. >> this is not just about basket basketball, this is about los angeles. >> reporter: we were downtown as mayor johnson applauded the commissioner. >> i hope that every biggot in this country sees what happened to mr. sterling and that if he goes down, so can you. >> i'm partially satisfied. he still receives something from the clippers. just because his face is not here he still receives a piece of it. that's not right. >> lifetime ban ain't enough. that man has to go. he's still signing paychecks. >> they gave him the maximum fine which is 2.5 million. lifetime ban. i don't know what else you can do with him. i mean, is there a more severe

and my personal outrage. >> reporter: adam silver says he expects the owners will vote to remove sterling as team owner. the commissioner also fined sterling $2.5 million. magic johnson responded to the news by saying the people who i'm happiest for are coach doc rivers, the clippers players and fans. the nba legend is seen on a photo in instagram with the woman that sterling is arguing with on the phone with sterling. and imagine ár curry saying, stand -- and stephen curry says, standing ovation for commissioner silver. and jason collins says,

california's fire fighting air force know how bad bad really is. already this year we've had 1,100 fires. that's already doubled this time in the state last year. >> conditions this year are much drier than we've seen in california this time of year. >> reporter: tankers, helicopter and spotter plains remain here are already on duty. >> typically this time of year almost all the aircraft would be sitting here ready to go out to the air bases. >> reporter: the few aircraft that do remain in sacramento are getting their finishing touches and are destined for the wettest part of california in the extreme north. but this year there are no wet parts of california. so these will be on station six weeks early. >> the summer months are only going to get drier. only going to get hotter and that fire threat will only go up. >> in southern california it's been so dry the seasonal firefighters stayed on all winter and the aircraft

assigned there have stayed there. in northern california, seasonal crews began to ramp up in mid-january with more in march. in all, calfire will hire 2,000 full and seasonal firefighters. these men and women staff and support trucks and other fire fighting vehicles. >> the drought has set the stage for a very dangerous fire season. >> reporter: the number of people who have moved into area that are prone for wildfires have skyrocketed since fire ravaged the state in the 70s when we had only half the population we have now. reporting live, tom vacar, ktvu channel 2 news. a 911 call led to a horrifying discovery in the south bay where a woman was found stabbed to death. police say about 3:00 this afternoon a neighbor noticed the woman injured in her apartment on jose fuig era s

avenue near alam rock avenue. officers later found the woman inside with at least one stab wound. she was reported dead there at the scene. her name has not yet been released. so far there are no suspects in custody. this is san jose's 13th homicide of the year. recovery crews searching for the wreckage of a small plane in the bay of richmond have reported that they have found the fuselage. divers are trying to confirm that the fuselage is thereafter seeing imagines from a robotic camera. the cessna 210 plane crashed on sunday after a midair collision with another small plane. salvage crews may attempt to pull the fuselage out of the water tomorrow. >> we're going to have a salvage operation here, they're going to come out and lift the fuselage and whatever other parts they can. and take those to another location so the ntsb can inspect them. >> authorities believe that the fuselage will contain the body

of the pilot. earlier today they recovered the wing of the plane and a pilot's jacket. the pilot of the other plane landed safely at an airstrip in the sierra foothills. disturbing new charges have been filed against a popular east bay youth coach accused of molesting students. authorities say he plotted to have his young accusers killed. andrew nesbet has pled not guilty. the 75 child molestation charges involved three alleged victims. he ran a junior golf academy in livermore. the alameda county district attorney's office says nisbit tried to hire a hit man from behind bars to kill the three alleged victims. two investigates showed you the fight between elementary schoolgirls and children climbing fences without an adult in sight.

now ktvu's john sasaki has learned help is on the way to ensure student safety. >> reporter: as school let out, you can sense the joy among the kids free for the day. but with student safety here remaining paramount the district told me today major changes have been underway for months. >> we've had our behavior health unit here working with staff and kind of leading then anti bullying and intervention effort. >> reporter: in february, 2 investigates uncovered serious deficiency during school hours which enabled kids to do as they pleased in some areas of campus. >> everybody wants their kids to be in a safe place where they can access their education. >> reporter: this was just one of numerous fights that's happened on campus. >> the way that the district you know right now is so strapped for resources we're mismanaging resources it's not happening. >> reporter: the district says

it hired two substitute teachers and two assistants to help supervise. a retired administrator starts tomorrow serving in an assistant principal role. >> it's about the staffing level, or policies being enforced. if we see we're falling short in that area then there needs to be some sort of comprehensive response. >> reporter: we didn't see the additional coverage but parents said the added personnel is a step in the right direction. >> i see that there's changes being made. we have a long way to go. but i think an assistant principal would definitely help. >> reporter: the parents we spoke to are relieved more coverage is coming this but they're still concerned about the mornings before class and the safety of their children. john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. students at san jose state university are upset with a yearly fee that keeps going up. >> we cannot afford these student fees it's too much. >> reporter: they walk out of class today to protest a fee called the student success excellent and technology fee. they say most of the money goes

to athletics which benefit as small portion of -- benefits a small portion of students. the fee is also going up to almost $800 this fall. >> adding a fee that continuously increases each year, it is not benefiting me. especially since i'm not getting a raise. >> reporter: students want the university to stop charging the fee. they're also demanding a more transparent process for future decisions that impact students. new concern about the treatment of pit bulls after one is shot by a police officer. >> the group sounding the alarm that some police officers may be shooting first and asking questions later. the weather is just right for folks headed to the local park to cool off. the change of plans though at some spots all because of the drought.

new at 6:00, sounding the alarm that police officers may need more help in handling certain dogs and other potentially dangerous animals. a series of encounters between dogs and san francisco police officers and animal rights activists worried. >> reporter: in an attack earlier this year two men were mauled by pit bulls. with this latest incident. animal care and control officers say the breed itself may be the target of aggression. this is duke's last day on four legs. the 13 -month-old pit bull mix was sot by a san francisco police officer last week and is set to have this hind leg amputated tomorrow. animal control officers say it's the third police shooting of a pit this year. they are concerned there is a shoot first ask questions later mentality when it comes to the breed. >> unfortunately lately it does

seem that way. i think that in large part maybe more trending to be helpful so that -- training would be helpful so that they can see if the pit was being aggressive toward them or not. >> reporter: police responding to an unrelated incident in the neighborhood last week say duke's sprinted out of the doorway 80 feet away and displayed quote aggressive behavior: growling and displaying his teeth. one officer fired four times another fired multiple shots. >> i think this is there perception that the minute you see a pit bull it's going to attack and that's not how it is. >> if there's a shoot first ask questions later mentality. >> the officers i'm not asking an officer to take a bite. >> reporter: instead denny says it comes down to a gut check. whether the dog is keeping its distance or on a steady course

toward the officer. >> any dog that is approaching in an aggressive behavior, you only have so much of a buffer before it attacks. >> reporter: reporting live, david stevenson. governor brown is pushing for a stronger rainy day fund that would set extra money aside for the future. >> to communicate to the voters of california that this legislature is serious about handling their money and not just for one year, but over a longer time horizon. >> reporter: members of the committee would allow the supplemental. some say the state should use any extra money to make up for recent cuts. >> our concern is that the governor's proposal would make a deposit into the rainy day

reserve even when the state is still recovering from a rescission. >> if the measure is approved it would still need to be passed by voters in november. the bay area is sure heating up and parents planning to take their kids to the local park to maybe cool off a bit may need to double check if the water is turned on. the drought conditions are forcing some cities to turn off the taps at splash parks. where water technicians say it is a necessary move. >> it's fresh drinking water that was used and that's why we're turning it off. because we need to protect that. >> other citys are cutting back. dublin will only open two of its three splash packs from memorial day weekend to labor day. and they will only open when it's hotter than 90 degrees. they plan to limit the hours of

that's how you know it's going to be warming tomorrow. because today we had more on shore winds like we were seeing here like in hayward and livermore now starting to come this way. the winds tonight are really going to start to overpower the slight on shore flow. that's going to warm us up. that's why temperatures are going to be as warm as they have been all week. the air will be sinking. as it sinks it warms. and it is warming. san jose tied a record today downtown. the coastal sections without the fog and those offshore winds will reach into the 70s, low 80s. if you look hard you can find a low 90. i think we're going to see lots of low 90s. san jose 84 degrees. san jose as we head into tomorrow, is going to get up there again. it's going to be back into the upper 80s. 88 in fairfield. 90 in vacaville. we're not seeing any kind of spare the air.

of big time news. but it is kind of a nice to be able to talk about the actual game itself which will be happening in a little less than an hour. for right now five games in the series after tonight. and it'll be interesting to see how this one plays out. because they've got to be distracted. dor rivers and mark jackson just finished press conferences. but how it affects both sides that's what we're about to see. the coaches trying to keep their players focused on the issue at hand. which is game five. >> we're not playing with the owner. the story remains the same. we're playing against the clippers. and issues that they have as an organization with their owner. we're going to play basketball. but this is a story that has to be dealt with. dealt with properly and it's a big issue. it's not just an issue with one individual. it's an issue with society. >> all right, game seven is one
