right now with breaking news. >> that breaking news from travis air force base for a small plane crash in front of hundreds of spectators during an air show and now the base is closed as authorities investigate what went wrong. good evening. i am ken wayne. >> i am heather holmes. investigators are heading to travis air force base to look into this afternoon's crash. ktvu's cristina rendon is talking with officials and witnesses. >> she joins us live now. >> reporter: we have been here at travis air force base since 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. there was a steady stream of cars leaving the area. right now everyone has cleared out. only few people remain all because of this plane crash. we want to mention we were updated saying a press conference will be held at 5:30 p.m. let's take you now to the

photos from witnesses. these are pictures before and after that plane crash. the instant happened at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon and we immediately called travis air force base and we were told they had limited information but a plane crashed by doing maneuvers. the pilot was doing a trick and he got too close to the ground. that is when the plane crashed upside down and started skidding on the runway and they won't confirm whether or not the pilot died. on the schedule we are told it was a pilot scheduled to form. we talked to his best friend. >> tried to do a pass, it didn't happen, when we came back the plane got too low -- [ indiscernible ] >> one of my best friends. a terrible loss.

[ indiscernible ] >> reporter: now i want to bring in my colleague john sasaki he was here at the air show. you were spectators, what did you see? >> the first thing i saw was black smoke. sometimes they have performances that are part of the show where you see smoke, part of the deal, so it took a minute or two to figure out what was going on. the announcer said we had an accident. could be part of the show, finally you see the fire trucks. lots of black smoke and you realize this is not part of the show and i was talking to fans of the shows shows and they told me the plane was upside down, 15, 20 feet and possibly a gust of wind. as you can see it is windy right now. it has been like this all day. coming across the runway may

have caused the pilot to go down instead of up. one of those maneuvers, he said it is a tricky maneuver. you have a push forward on the stick to make it go up. down from reverse position, it is tough to do, but with the winds it makes it more difficult. it just took a while to figure out what was going on. >> reporter: tell us what have you learned about the pilot. >> the pilot is from half moon bay, 74 years old. someone who has been in the air show business for 40 years. a guy who is well recognized, well known, just been elected to the international counsel of air shows. known throughout the world of being very talented, very safety conscious, you don't get recognized like that for just being in an air show. >> thank you so much. john sasaki here at ktvu

calls to authorities to break up a fight led to a violent confrontation that sent two sheriff's deputies to the hospital. one deputies remains in the hospital. he may need reconstructive surgery. ktvu's paul chambers is live where he learned this entire incident was caught on camera. >> reporter: i will tell you they are not releasing the video but they showed me first hand. i will stay is very graphic. you can hear them demanding they get down several times before you hear one of the deputies being hit in the face several times. >> reporter: these three people are facing felony assault charges after two deputies were attacked. >> we believe that the suspects were trying to actively kill and injure our deputies. >> reporter: around 11:00 p.m. last night they got a call of a fight at this p.m.

complex. -- apartment complex. two male suspects suspects were fighting. >> people we came to help turned their aggregation on our deputies. >> reporter: this blad is from the -- blood is from the fight where he grabbed a deputy. >> placed him in a choke hold. >> he is trained in martial arts and is the primary suspect. >> he is in serious condition with severe facial fractures. >> reporter: investigators say he kicked the deputies while they were down and the deputy was able to endure had pain and grabbed his weapon. >> reached for his taser and deploy it and stop the primary suspect from continuing his attack. >> reporter: several deputy stopped by the hospital as well as the suspect he was injured last night. he will join the other two

suspects in jail. we know the two male suspects will be charged with attempted morder of an officer. paul chambers -- murder of an officer. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. new information on the freeway shooting in richmond. police identified the victim was a 31-year-old deonta broussard. deonta broussard was driving a ford suv on interstate 580 yesterday afternoon when someone opened fire from another vehicle. the suv crashed and deonta broussard was proudnessed ned at the -- pronounced dead at the scene and investigators think he was targeted. police are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body that was found. tourists from switzerland found the remains and called authorities. investigators say the body was found a distance from the shoreline and it does not appear it was washed in. it is so decomposed they can't tell the gender of the victim.

there are a number of question surrounding what firefighters a call a suspicious fire. firefighters were called to the fire on lincoln road east of i- 80 at 6:00 a.m. this morning. a firefighter said the 7 adults and 2 children were living in three different spaces in the garage but they are now saying it is not clear how many people were living there. the fire grew to two alarms. this afternoon firefighters said there are indications that flammable liquids may have been the source of the fire. one man said he believes someone deliberately set the fire. >> they put my life in danger. i was only seconds, seconds of getting out of here before the cars in the back, two brand new cars people just got, blew up. >> firefighters say they have not been able to get in touch

with the proper owner. it does not appear they were living in the garage were legal tenants. an investigation is underway. now to the weather as we take a live look at the conditions from downtown san francisco looking towards the bay bridge. some scattered clouds out there but mostly blue skies and cooler than it was. >> let's check in with our meteorology mark tamayo. with the cooler temperatures nice day out there. >> nice day. comfortable after we had clouds that moved into the afternoon hours. outside we have a breeze. the wind kicking up. that is responsible for the cool down. over the past few days. three days ago on thursday 70s, 80s and 90s. these are the temperatures on thursday. a few reports. the preliminary highs from today and way down there, down 20 degrees across parts of the bay area, san francisco, 64 degrees. 84 on thursday.

taking photos or video during the show to please contact them so the evidence could be used in an investigation into determining what went wrong in the crash. a man faces dui and manslaughter charges from a crash that killed his wife about 6:00 p.m. yesterday. the driver was speeding and lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. the driver is now identified as a 33-year-old, john norman of santa rosa. he was hospitalized. his wife has been identified as deandranorman. sunday treats in san francisco. a chance to go outside without worrying about traffic. ktvu's noelle walker is live with how the efforts are working. >> reporter: the streets are open right now but it was a

are in the mix it is -- noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news. relatives of a man shot and killed in his apartment say his killing doesn't make sense. according to the san francisco chronicle he was shot when he went to an apartment on the wrong floor yesterday. police arrested the man who lives there who blamed him for breaking the nob on the door. his family said he pressed the wrong elevator button. he was studying business and hoped to join the foreign service. san francisco police detained three people last night. before 11:00 p.m. witnesses reported hearing gun shots fired near 6th and mission streets. when officers arrived they saw a gunman hide. police shut down the area till 1:30 a.m. when three people were taken into custody. the berkeley city counsel

back 92 abreaking news -- now to breaking news at travis air force base, the air show was canceled after a plane crash killed a pilot. ktvu's cristina rendon has the latest on what happened and who the pilot might be. >> the only people that are being let in are those with official badges. everyone else has been told to leave. the air force base shut shut down. this is from a witness who was that air show. his name is edison carlos. the shows the smoke from the plane. even though travis air force base are not saying who the pilot is we know from the schedule the pilot scheduled to perform was named eddy and he

high school graduate who waited 7 decades to get his high school diploma. that is the man of the hour. friends and family of the 91- year-old gathered in indiana yesterday to see the proud world war ii vet get a certificate of graduation. he had to leave high school it take care of his family and then he was drafted. a few credit shy of completing his education. his sons made sure he finally got his diploma. he is pleased. he always wanted a diploma and now he has one. >> much deserving. the a's try to avoid the sweep, they are in boston and the giants continue as they do something they have never done before in atlanta. we will have it next in sports wrap.
