45 santa rosa. a little in the morning air. only the cloud cover holding up some p those temperatures -- some of those temperatures. 45 miles an hour out of sfo, 13 for livermore. the breeze will crank up. that's the low. it's on its way over the sierra nevada. it will drop into las vegas and say hey and kick out. it will give us a cool, breezy, windy pattern and even rain up in the sierra. partly sunny in the afternoon. a lot of 60s. here's sal. steve, we've had quite a commute this morning for a monday. i want -- westbound bay bridge just listening to the chp talking about clearing a noninjury crash from the span. however, that and maybe some people taking their car instead of using b.a.r.t. is creating a big delay coming around the macarthur maze. this drive time into san francisco, up to 40 minutes.

that's right. if you are at the end of the line, it will take you about an hour or a couple of led zeppelin songs to get through these things. the accident was noninjury. looking at at san jose area, northbound 101 as you drive up to 880, the traffic is slow. so is 85 after 17. we haven't been too bad there. highway 24, eight minutes between caldecott -- between pleasant hill road and the caldecott. 580 kind of a huge commute from grant line road to 680. b.a.r.t. is recovering after a track problem created systemwide delays. brian flores has been following the story since this broke. it looks like things are getting back to normal. >> reporter: they are. we were talking about delays. some cut commuters at lake merritt, there was concern about delays.

the good news, a short time ago, the issue has been fixed and trains are moving through normally. that wassate nounsment made to passengers here tell -- that was the announcement made to the passengers here telling them. er it's only about -- it's only about a ten-minute delay. not as bad as early. b.a.r.t. said the issue was a line switching problem for b.a.r.t. trains approaching the oakland "y" section. we understand that the switch was near the 12th street b.a.r.t. station. it's been fixed. for a while, the lines had to be switched manually but the problem has been fixed and trains are moving through normally. because of this we've seen an increase, as you mentioned, of cars on the freeways this morning because we weren't sure if this problem was going to be fixed. be aware of that as you approach your monday morning

commute. a quick ten-minute delay on the b.a.r.t. trains this morning. but not as bad as the 30 minutes we saw earlier this morning. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, thank you, brian. we are learning new details about the investigation into a deadly police shooting in dublin. police say an 18-year-old threatened officers with a baseball bat. tara moriarty joins us live from the home where it happened. she just spoke to a friend of the suspect's family. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. we spoke to the boyfriend of the suspect's sister. he says what happened here in this apartment complex last night wasn't right. we don't flow which apartment it was -- we we don't know which apartment it was. the shooting erupted shortly after 6:00 at the apartment on dublin meadowses while three officers were responding to a domestic violence violence. an officer was forced to shoot and kill the 18-year-old man when he attacked him with a baseball bat at the door. the officer felt his life was

in danger and fired several rounds. he received injury to his arms and hand, the officer did. the boyfriend tells a different story. he says the 18-year-old was on his knees and was diving for a bat when officers shot him five times. but i just got off the phone with dublin police. they directly refute that, saying that the individual was not shot five times and that the mother and sister made statements that corroborate the officer's story. paramedics arrived. they were unable to revive the man. police have not commented on whether the officer was will be placed on administrative leave. we've put in a call to the coroner's office. we were told the identity of the suspect/victim will not be released until most likely tomorrow. we're live in dublin, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. three suspects are in the alameda county jail accused of brutally beating two sheriff's deputies. the suspects are facing felony charges following the violent

incident in castro valley saturday night. the sheriff's office says the deputies were viciously attacked while trying to break up a fight at an apartment on grove way. one of the suspects, keith carter, is trained in martial arts. investigators say he tried to strangle one deputy, then turned to the other deputy and smashed him several times in the face. >> he's in serious condition with severe facial fractures that will most likely require reconstructive surgery. >> the other deputy was treated for less severe injuries. berkeley city council plans to debate the issue again about giving tasers to police officers. this comes weeks after a berkeley police officer was beaten unconsciously. the berkeley police department said that could have been avoided if he had a taser. they will ask the city council

to re-examine this issue. there are some in berkeley that are worried that the police would use the tasers inappropriately. we have continuing coverage now this morning of a deadly plane crash. this one at travis air force base. the pilot identified as 77-year- old eddie andreini. he crashed while attempting a maneuver at yesterday's airshow. witnesses say it took about five minutes for the emergency crews to get to the crash site. now that response time is part of the investigation by the ntsb. coming up for you at 7:30, alex savidge will be live in half moon bay where the pilot lived. he will tell you more about what his friends and his family are saying about his life and how he did what he loved. happening now -- students at live oak high school in morgan hill are preparing for a protest they say they do not want to be apart of. these are live pictures from the school. a lot of people lined up on the

sidewalk holding american flags, and in about 30 minutes, a protest is expected to begin. it looks like there are protesters in place. this all stems from an incident in 2010 when students wore american flag t-shirts and bandanas to school on cinco de mayo. school administrators told them to turn the shirts inside out. a federal appeals court sided with the school's decision. janine de la vega is there and we'll have a live report at 7:30 as more and more protesters begin showing up. in san jose, an annual cinco de mayo celebration quickly turned chaotic. [ sirens ] >> several arrests were made last night. at one point, several young people jumped the city bus and took over santa clara street.

7:14. the team overseeing the search for the malaysia jet now has a new plan. experts will re-examine all of the information gathered in the two-month-long search for the plane. they want to make sure the hunt has been going on in the right place. the hope is looking at all of the data again could provide new clues to help find the plane. the ride of doom. that's how some passengers on a flight out of philadelphia described their experience after hitting a severe patch of

turbulence. witnesses say things got crazy about 20 minutes after taking off heading to orlando last night. many describe it like scenes from an action thriller. >> climb and climbing and climbing and it was a huge drop. i was sitting. i had my seat belt on. i saw the lady three rows in front of me. she bashed her head all the way up to the plastic and the plastic was broken and a piece of hair was hanging from the plastic. >> 300 people were on board. six were hurt, including a child, and a flight attendant. the plane quickly turned around. a rescheduled flight eventually made it to florida. authorities in marin county trying to identify a man's body found near stinson beach. tourists found the remains. although they speak very little english, they still reached responders. investigators say the body was

found close to highway 1 on national park lands. early reports indicate it's the body of an adult man. an autopsy is planned. meantime, police in santa barbara investigate eths the death of a college -- a investigating the death of a college student was found on the beach in ila vista, a town home to 23,000 people, 60% are college students. it's known for having loud parties. in recent months police say there have been several sexual assaults. the calls of the student's death is still under investigation. chp officers in the east bay responded to an unusual call. about 50 goats got on the freeway near the caldecott tunnel. it happened over the weekend on a connector between westbound highway 24 and highway 13. it looks like something you would see on a farm. witnesses say the goats were wandering around across the lanes. drivers were forced to hit

their brakes. no one reported seeing a herder. officers were able to get the goats off the roadway within a half-hour. you can see there, every day is a new experience working as a chp officer. goats are used to help prevent fires from procuring by keeping the grass down. >> that's wild. no pun intended. sal, you've had a wild morning with our commute. the roads, b.a.r.t., everything. >> fortunately, things are beginning to settle down a little bit. we had a crash on the bay bridge, for example that was minor but it did block lanes for a bit and traffic is slow here at the toll plaza. we have about a 40-minute delay at the toll plaza and you bring yourself a good attitude.

if you want to pick up commuters for the carpool lane this would be a good morning to do it or take b.a.r.t. b.a.r.t. has ten-minute delays because of earlier problems. but not bad i would say it would be a good way to get in and out of san francisco. this is a look at 8 -- 880 and the traffic looks okay with no major problems. 24 looking normal from pleasant hill road to the caldecott, 990s. 880, 238 to thorn tone fremont, 19 minutes. but a huge commute on 580 westbound from grant line road to the dublin interchange, taking an hour. wow. not a good commute. let's go to steve. >> all right, sal. thank you. a lot of cloud cover around. some low clouds, a few sunbreaks. fog for some. a little bit of rain on the north coast. we'll get some mostly cloudy skies in the morning and then partly sunny but the big news with the cooler and breezy pattern for at least the next

couple of days. no doubt about it. mostly cloudy here. partly cloudy. partly sunny and then breezy and windy as an area of low pressure takes its path from the pacific northwest right over the sierra nevada and all the way down to las vegas. that will definitely keep some blustery conditions in the forecast. a lot of low 70s on sunday, including all of these. today they will check in at 68. these are my forecasted highs. for palo alto, napa, concord, san jose. a slight cooldown. san francisco, about 64. there might be some areas that don't get above 60. depending upon where you are in the city. we'll go 64. i've seen a little bit of light rain sneaking into parts of mendocino county or lake county. 45. sonoma county airport. a little cool there. most temperatures including san jose at 55. not an outrageous breeze. fairfield southwest 13. sfo is 16 miles an hour out of the west-southwest. it will turn northwest tonight.

53 sacramento. a little cool. there's the low right there. it's going to take this path right over northeast california right over the sierra. there will be some rain, maybe high mountain snow. again, way up there. but also all the way down to las vegas where it will park itself for a day or two and kick out. as it does, that's going to give us a strong pressure in the gradients. this equals a cooler and breezy forecast. i think we're too far west for showers. clouds, breezy, coast, fog, some high clouds. 60s on the temperatures. this may be one of those where may days where sonoma and napa are a little bit warmer than clearlake. don't see that all of the time. 73 vacaville. san rafael. 65. pittsburg, antioch, oakley, low 70s. danville upper 60s. berkeley, 65 degrees. we'll go 72 gilroy. san jose, 68. cupertino is in there. sunnyvale, redwood city, palo alto, mountain view and 60s on the coast or upper 50s.

kind of a cool pattern all the way to the inland areas, we'll get it there and then the low kicks out. that allows high pressure to build in for a little bit of a warmer into the weekend. there are reports the fbi investigation that ended with the arrest of leland yee had a different target. according to the chronicle, joe montana was contacted by an undercover fbi operative. while the fbi is not confirming or denying that it contacted montana, the chronicle reports he was questioned about an unspecified business proposition. the football legend, who is involved in several development deals, was not found to have done anything wrong. mon tan non's lawyer is not aware of any contact between the fbi and his client. a lot of drama surrounding the golden state warriors. they are cleaning out their

let's start off with the slowest commute. that would be the bay bridge. a lot of slow traffic. this is because of a couple of things. we had an earlier crash on the bring. some people may have decided to not to take b.a.r.t. earlier this morning because we had significant delays. those delays are gone. but traffic is backed up for a 40-minute drive time. taking a look at highway 24. this drive time is ramping up from pleasant hill road to the caldecott tunnel. about a 12-minute drive time and speeds at less than 15 miles an hour. we also are looking at slow traffic on the eastshore freeway coming out of richmond. 580 is a huge mess from the altamont pass, solid line of slow traffic all the way out to the 680 interchange. a lot of people are making that turn onto 6 -- 680 and that's slow. we have a rough one. back to the desk. dozens of people are protesting outside of a south bay high school. this comes after a controversy

four years ago involving american flags during cinco de mayo celebrations. ktvu's janine de la vega is live with more on what the school is doing to keep the students out there safe. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. the street here in front of live oak high school is lined with people holding american flags. also wearing them on their shirts. it's their show of patriotism and a way to show freedom of speech. there's, though, also a gentleman out here. he's the only one. he -- instead of holding an american flag, he's waving the mexican flag. the gilroy morgan hill group says it's important to demonstrate freedom of speech. they say the rights were violated back in 2010 when students wore american t-shirts on their shirts on cinco de mayo. latino students saw it as disrespectful. a 9th circuit court sided with

the schools and that had them turning their t-shirts inside out. there's a fence put up. >> it looks like they erected a barrier to keep out the first amendment of the constitution. i don't know why they don't want the students to be exposed to democracy in action. >> reporter: and for cinco de mayo, students put together a video and posted it on youtube. they've declared today green and gold day, their school colors, and say the past is a past. they've hung a banner outside of the campus. the paytry it group don't want to -- pay tree -- the patriot doesn't want to prevent the protest. they are supposed to be out

here doing a peaceful march. i'm not sure if that's the group standing behind the people holding american flags. we will continue to monitor this situation and bring it to you on "mornings on 2." reporting live from moegen hill, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news -- morganhill, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. 77-year-old aerobatic pilot, eddie andreini, died while attempting a maneuver during the show. now the response time by emergency crews is being questioned after witnesses say it took about five minutes for them to reach the crash site. we're learning more about the pilot killed. alex savidge is in half moon bay where the pilot lived. you've been talking to people who say he had been flying for most of his life. >> reporter: well, really, a sense of sadness for many in half moon bay. this veteran pilot has several

planes parked here at the half moon bay airport. this is also where his airshow business is based. 77-year-old eddie andreini performed at events all around the country. yesterday, he was performing here in the bay area at travis air force base during the "thunder over solano" event. his plane was upside down and flying low when it hit the tarmac and skidded in front of a stunned crowd. the plane burst into flames with eddie andreini still inside it. he died there at the scene. friends say he had been flying since he was 16 years old and had performed in more than a thousand airshows around the country in his career. along with being a skilled pilot, he was also a husband, a father and a grandfather and friends say his family meant everything to him. >> his family, his friends. he cared about people. i personally know that he generally cared with people. that's what i really loved

about eddie. >> reporter: and here's youtube video of eddie andreini from a sacramento airshow that happened two years ago. at that time he was performing the same maneuver that led to yesterday's deadly crash. in the trick, a knife slices through the ribbon. there are some questions being raised about the emergency response time following yesterday's accident. some witnesses say it took about five minutes for firefighters to reach that plane on the tarmac. and in that time, the fire quickly spread. here's how base officials are responding to that criticism -- well, that emergency response issue will also be part of the federal investigation into this deadly crash. the ntsb will be looking into that. they will be continuing to gather evidence and try to

understand what led up to yesterday's accident. coming up for you at 8:30, we'll tell you what some fellow pilots believe may have been a factor in yesterday's crash. we're live this morning in half moon bay, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> du. this crash comes one week after a small plane crashed into the bay, north of the richmond/san rafael bridge. the pilot in that crash was also killed. investigators say he was flying alongside another plane when they collided in midair. both planes were returning from an airshow in half moon bay. the pilot has been identified as 33-year-old david everett plum. one of the most recent deadly accidents happened at the reno air races. the pilot lost control of his plane and crashed into a crowd of spectators, 11 people, including the pilot, were killed then. we have more coverage at ktvu.com.

we've posted the latest under including raw video. he what -- we talked to b.a.r.t. police about a stabbing. one b.a.r.t. passenger stabbed another in the arm as the train was approaching the lake -- the lake merritt situation. the man who was stabbed is listed in stable condition at highland hospital. police aren't sure yet if this was a random attack or if the stabbing victim was targeted. 7:39. ktvu channel 2 anchor frank somerville gets a rare all- access look at life in law enforcement. >> this is really hard. >> our own frank somerville joined deputies going through training. he also went out on patrol inside an autopsy room and spent time with inmates in prison. it's all in a two-part special report that starts tonight on

all right. it is 7:45. want to check in with sal. boy, it's been a pretty busy monday morning in the traffic world. >> it sure has been, tori, all over the place. not only on the roads but public transit. the busiest commute is the bay bridge. we had a minor crash, a noninjury crash that blocked lanes for a time and then we had -- i think we had more people getting on the road. they heard that there were gonna be b.a.r.t. problems. the problems ended up not being as significant as they once thought. they fixed it rather quickly. this is a 40346 minute drive time -- 450-minute drive time -- 40-minute drive time. if you are driving on 880 northbound, it's getting busier from the coliseum to oakland. as we look at 80, the bridge is beginning to have an effect on 80 westbound from highway 4. it's slow through richmond but

some of the commutes out there. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. we're getting new details about the investigation into a deadly police shooting in dublin. police say an 18-year-old threatened police officers with a baseball bat. tara moriarty is joining us live from the apartment complex where this happened and tara, the coroner says it may be a while before they officially confirm who this teenager was. >> reporter: yeah, that's right. the coroner said it was a very busy weekend for them. they are a bit backlogged. so they most likely won't be able to release the identify tid of the suspect in this case until tomorrow. we did speak to the boyfriend of the suspect's sister. he says that the suspect had been mentally unstable and had been recently let out of the hospital. we do know that last night, sometime shortly after 6:00, the shooting erupted at the apartment on dublin meadows street while three officers were responding to a domestic violence call. investigators say an officer was forced to shoot and kill an 18-year-old man after he attacked him with a baseball

francisco. the massive statewide manhunt goes on this morning for a calfire battalion chief suspected of killing his fiance. investigators believe 55-year- old orville fleming stabbed and strangled sara douglas last thursday in sacramento. they say the couple may have been fighting. flemming left the scene in a calfire truck. it was later found abandoned. he's believed to be armed possibly with several weapons. today, fire season officially begins in the bay area. since last january, calfire has been hiring and training seasonal firefighters. they are expecting a very busy fire season due to the dry conditions this winter. calfire has already responded to 1200 fires so far this year. that's more than double the usual number. with fire season now officially underway. calfire is asking people to clear any brush within 100 feet of their home.

plan already considered that could result in hundreds of thousands of people paying much more for their water. brian flores is live in fremont with which stays could be affected by this. good morning, brian. >> reporter: we're talking about 331,000 customers. residents living in fremont, union city and newark could all be affected. it depends what happens at a meeting at the alameda county water district. obviously, we're in a drut condition so the district is telling people to conserve but the catch 22 here is that it is reducing the agency's income. it's projecting an 11.7 million shortfall, in fact. to generate more money the board is considering a tiered rate structure based on how much units of water each household uses. a unit is defined as 748 gallons. there would be no surcharge for homes that would use up to 16 u nipts per water but between 16

and 30 units residents would be paying $5 extra per unit and more than 30 gallons, $6 or higher depending whether this proposal passes. according to the contra costa times, the board could consider other ways to save. you can see some of the plans that are urging people to save water. but the district is also considering having construction projects halted. of course, this decision will be made tonight here at the meeting. but it will be put up for a public vote and that meeting is scheduled for july. we are live in fremont, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. this could be the last day of testimony in the trial of a protester accused of assaulting law enforcement officers in sonoma county. the trial stems from a rowdy demonstration late last year in santa rosa. prosecutors say ramon cairo attacked officers protesting the fatal shooting of andy lopez by a sonoma county

sheriff's deputy. the case is expected to go to the jury late today or early tomorrow. he faces the possibility of a year in jail if he's found guilty. 8:15. this week berkeley city council plans to take up the issue of allowing police to have tasers. it comes weeks after a berkeley police officer was beaten unconscious during a disturbance at aquatic park. the berkeley police officers association says the incident could have been prevented if the officer had a taser. council members say at tomorrow night's meeting they will ask the city manager to re-examine the impact of police having tasers. some people in berkeley expressed concern that police would use the tasers inappropriately. the number of children getting hurt by baby gates that are installed incorrectly is increasing. a new study by academic pediatrics shows nearly 2,000 kids are treated in emergency rooms each year due to baby gate-related injuries.

colorado woman is in critical condition this morning after being trapped for days in the wreckage of her car. she was reported missing four days ago. she was rescued after hikers spotted her upside down car. she had written notes on an umbrella pleading for help and she held the umbrella outside the car hoping someone out on the highway would see it. she was severely dehydrated and is listed in critical condition. the highway patrol is making a difference on bay area freeways by flying several thousand feet in the air. the chp's golden gate air operations unit patrols all nine bay area counties with freeways and highways spanding 6900 square miles. they can track dangerous drivers from the air avoiding the need for a high-speed chase on the ground. >> we're looking for the people that are doing dangerous things

it's monday, it's may 5th. i'm dave clark. let's check your weather and traffic. steve is over there. >> thank you, dave. we do have a mostly sunny sky. a lot of these high clouds are zooming out. sun, clouds, cool, breezy. clouds, a few scattered showers are possible. mainly mendocino county and over the sierra the next 24 hours for us, the result will be a windy pattern. we'll bottom out tomorrow on the temperatures. today, a lot of 68s, including palo alto, concord, san jose and napa. could be a scattered shower or two. 50s on the temperatures. everyone is pretty close. coast, bay, inland. have not bounced too far off the morning lows. livermore 9. it's a sign of things to come. the low is on the way to the

veard -- down to las vegas. sun, clouds, a few showers possible to the north but i think windy and cool is the bigger story for us. highs today, below average 60s r for many or very -- 60s for many or very low 7s -- 70s. when it comes to the bay bridge, it's been slow. we've had slow traffic approaching from almost everywhere you look. please give yourself extra time if you are driving on the bridge. it's been in some cases a 45- minute drive on the span and we haven't had a very good commute at all. the reason there was a crash earlier that was in the lanes, it's been removed. it's up near treasure island and people are looking at it. that's why it's been so slow. the san mateo bridge about a 15- minute drive across the span. 101 is slow. i might still use the san mateo bridge instead of the bay bridge today if it was close

enough to my commute. northbound 101 has been slow in palo alto. 85 and 280 is improve. the east bay freeway is slow. let's go back to the desk. all right, sal. happening now, a protest that caused a big traffic jam at one south bay high school, it just wrapped up. all of this stems from controversy on cinco de mayo four years ago. ktvu's janine de la vega is live in morgan hill now to tell us why many students say they don't want any part of this. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. well, the demonstration has ended. and school has started for the day. i do want to show you, though, over here, a chain-link fence has been put up temporarily in front of live oak high school. that was done to protect the

students. you can see there is a sign made by the students symbolizing u unity -- unity. demonstrators say they are standing up for freedom of speech. this all stems from what happened at the school back in 2010. four students wore american flag t-shirts on cinco de mayo. they were told to turn them inside out. a recent 9th circuit court ruling sided with the school district on how it handled the situation. >> they said the school has the right to make that decision. i think that's wrong. i think there are better ways to solve problems than to change discrimination from one point and move it over to the other. >> reporter: the superintendent says students will not be punished if they wear american flags on their shirts today. students put together a video

and posted it on youtube. they've declared today green and gold day and say the past is the past. one man, though, showed up with a mexican flag this morning and stood with demonstrators. >> showing equality, showing peace, showing that the demonstration can be peaceful and there won't be any problems. i'm showing it will be nonviolent. i have my arm around her to show peace. >> reporter: security has been ramped up at the school. police are out in front of the school. they've been monitoring traffic and the demonstrators that were here earlier today. they still plan on keeping a close eye on the school. there was a chp helicopter that flew overhead. so far, everything was pretty peaceful, though there have been posts that a motorcycle group not associated with a patriot is gonna hold some sort of afternoon rally. we're not sure if that's gonna happen. but a parent and community group was supposed to hold a peaceful march here earlier but they said out of respect for the students who didn't want

them here, they didn't show up at all. instead, they are holding yet another rally at 5:00 p.m. at a morgan hill park. reporting live from morgan hill, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:36. this morning, we talked to b.a.r.t. police about a stabbing that happened last night on board a train passing through oakland. police say one b.a.r.t. passenger stabbed another passenger in the arm as the train was approaching the lake merritt station. the police stopped the train at the san leandro b.a.r.t. station searching for that attacker but he apparently got off the train at another station. the man who was stabbed was in stable condition at highland hospital. police are still not sure if that was a random attack or if the stabbing victim was targeted. a veteran stunt pilot is dead after crashing during an airshow at travis air force base. and now response time is being questioned after witnesses say it took about five minutes for them to reach the crash site. the pilot's been identified as

77-year-old eddie andreini. he had been flying since he was 16 and was known for the maneuvers he could pull off in the air. this is video of him a sacramento airshow two years ago. he turns his plane upside down and flies low to the ground. a knife attached to the tail of the plane slices a ribbon held 20 feet above the runway. yesterday afternoon, that same maneuver ended with eddie andreini's plan hitting the ground, skidding and catching on fire. witnesses say they watched the fire spread as they waited for emergency responders to get to the crash site. >> the announcer was saying they practice for this. everybody stay where you are. you practice for this. but where are you? >> the ntsb is investigating the crash. the colonel with travis air force base said the response time will be one of the factors look into during the investigation. this crash comes one week after a plane slammed into the bay

north of the richmond/san rafael bridge. the pilot of the crash was killed. investigators say he was flying across another plane when they collided in midair. both planes were returning from an airshow in half moon bay. the pilot has been identified as david everett plumb. one of the most deadly accidents happened at the reno air races in 2011. a pilot lost control of his plane and crashed into a group of spectators. 11 people, including the pipe, were killed. we have more coverage of this weekend's deadly crash at ktvu.com. we've posted the latest information under the top story tab including raw video taken right after the crash. governor brown will honor and pay tribute to eight california law enforcement officers killed last year in the line of duty. the governor will speak at a memorial ceremony in sacramento for those officers. among those to be honored, santa cruz police officers lauren butch baker and

beating two sheriff deputies. the suspects are facing felony charges after a violent incident in castro valley saturday night. one deputy will need facial reconstruction surgery as a result of that beating. and we're getting new details this morning about the investigation into a deadly police shooting in dublin. police say an 18-year-old threatened the police with a baseball bat. ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live from the apartment complex where this happened. you talked to the coroner earlier this morning. tara? >> reporter: yeah, and the coroner said it had a very busy weekend. it's a bit backlogged and probably won't be able to release the identity of the suspect in this kate until tomorrow. we know that last night shortly around 6:00, three officers were responding to a domestic call. investigators say an officer was forced to shoot and kill an 18-year-old man after he attacked him with a baseball bat at the front door.

the officer said that he felt his life was in immediate danger and fired several rounds. he received his injuries to his hand and arm, was treated at the scene and taken to the station for questioning. paramedics arrived at the scene but were unable to revive the 18-year-old. police say it appears the suspect physically assaulted his mother shortly before they were called to the home. police have not commented on whether the officer will be placed on leave and officers are supposed to be giving us another update sometime later this afternoon. we'll let you know what we find out. i'm dive from dublin, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:44. new this morning, target's ceo is out of a job. it's the latest fallout from that massive security breach right around the holiday shopping season. pam cook is in the newsroom with the actions target is trying to repair its image and bring back its customers. >> good morning. target still recovering from one of the largest credit card thefts in history. it's definitely affecting

business. sales have dropped nearly 4% in the latest quarter. retailor faces -- retailer faces more than 80 lawsuits related to the breach and the news came that after 350 years target's ceo and chairman of the board is stepping down. gregg steinhafel is resigning after extensive discussions with the board of directors. targets announced all of the store brand red cards will be reissued as master card chip and pip cards in 2015. chip and pin technology widely used in the u.k. it's considered more secure than the magnetic cards because they are embedded with a microchip that generates a different single-use code to process a transaction. it will cost target an estimated $100 million to make the switch. now, this is all going on as federal and state investigators continue into how target responded to the hacker attack.

japan are both recovering after being hit by strong earthquakes. the quake in japan hit about 17 hours ago in the ocean southwest of tokyo. the quake in thailand hit a few hours ago and was certainerred in the northern part of the country but was felt as far away as bangkok. and foe foes are all over -- photos are all over social media. roads, buildings, buddhist temples are damaged. people had to be evacuated from the main airport. information is still coming in. but so far no reports of injuries there. in japan, video captured the quake rattling windows and security cameras and authorities say as we mentioned, 17 people were hurt. it's the strongest quake to hit the area since the magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami of 2011. 8:49. new this morning from nigeria an

investigators in vallejo are calling a fire in a converted garage suspicious. it was reported at 6:00 yesterday morning at a home on lincoln road. firefighters say the garage had been converted into a living space. it's unclear how many people were staying there. they say it appears the fire was started by nammable liquids. no one was hurt -- flammable liquids. no one was hurt.

police responded to reports of gunshots near virginia and south 12th street. one person died there at the scene. another gunshot victim showed up at a hospital. investigators think the shooting was triggered by a neighborhood dispute. so far no arrests have been made. bay area police are still searching for the gunman who shot and killed a man driving on interstate 580 in richmond on saturday. police say the 31-year-old was driving a ford suv near regatta boulevard when shots were fired from another car. he lost control and the suv crashed. tomorrow richmond city leaders will discuss the idea of making the minimum wage higher than anywhere else in the state. there's a proposal to raise the city's minimum wage to $12.30 an hour in the next four years. but last month, four city
