the divergent stories about what led to blows and left the deputies bloody. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu channel 2 news at 6:00. there are more unanswered questions tonight about the disappearance of a 22 month old oak land toddler. now that her father has died. good evening, i'm julie haener. and i'm frank somerville. >> today, we spoke to family about baby daphney, claudine. >> reporter: baby daphney is missing and the case is still open. daphney's grandfather said he believed the father had more to tell about his disappearance, he worries answers about his questions have been taken to john anthony webb's grave. this is where john anthony webb lived with his mother and baby

daphney. it is where he committed suicide on friday. >> to me, it didn't answer any questions or solve any problems. it left us hanging, you know. >> reporter: no note? >> no note. >> reporter: webb says he wondered what happened to his granddaughter, daphney, last july. >> reporter: are you convinced that he wasn't involved. >> no. i feel like he was to some degree. you know, the story from the beginning was questionable. and we were just trying to, hoping that at some point, we would get the truth out of him. >> reporter: webb said she was taken from his car while he was in a store. he was considered a person of interest and even went to jail, but was never charged. webb cheerfully spoke to reporters just days after his daughter's disappearance. >> my daughter is missing. and i have to live with that. even though i'm out of jail, i'm still not free. >> reporter: an autopsy on webb

was performed today, but the coroner's office said it is waiting for toxicology case before determining the cause of death. that could take 60 to 90 days. >> if he knew that he was going to do this, he should have let us know what was going on or point us in the right direction, but he cheated us. >> reporter: i want to show you a picture of dawn, who was born in january. daphney's mother found out she was pregnant a week after daphney disappeared. the grandfather believes she is a live and said they will love dawn while they wait for daphney. the wreckage of the biplane that crashed during an air show that crashed at travis air force base over the weekend is in the hands of federal investigators. witnesses say the terrifying images and sounds of

yesterday's deadly plane crash are imbedded in their minds, 85,000 spectators were on hand when it went down and killed the pilot, eddie andreini. he was from half moon bay. it happened when he was performing a maneuver where his plane flies upside-down and low to the ground. the ntsb and the federal aviation administration said today they are pouring over the debris and evidence left on the tarmac. as part of the investigation they are also moving the wreckage to another location in pleasant groove, so they can continue to go through it. they are looking at various factors that could have played a role in the crash such as the pilot, the plane's mechanics, and the weather conditions at the time it went down. >> right now we are focusing on the evidence that we have today. we are looking at the wreckage and ground scars. all the other stuff will be developed. >> officials say they hope to have the investigation

completed in nine months. flags are flying at half staff in half moon bay, where eddie andreini kept his planes. andreini was the owner of the andreini construction company. he helped construct part of half moon bay. pilots say that andreini was admired for his precision and personality. >> he was enthusiastic. he shared his enthusiasm and his love. it wasn't just love of flying, but love of life. he asked how you were and how your family was, and he cared. >> andreini flew vintage planes at shows throughout the u.s. and around the globe. he was also inducted in the hall of fame for the international council of air shows. coming up at 6:15, we take a close look at the air show safety measures that are already in place and the questions pilots have about the emergency response during the crash yesterday. the controversy over

american t-shirts worn by students on a high school campus is still stirring up strong emotions. police and protestors stood guard outside life oak high school because of what happened there on cinco de mayo four years ago. robert honda has more. >> reporter: respect was the major problem. we are trying to make kids understand that just because they are brown, they shouldn't be treated differently. >> reporter: the first rally of the day was in front of the campus. a group set up flags and said they were there to defend the students' freedom of speech. the group didn't like the fence put up around the campus. >> looks like they erected a barrier. >> students at the school posted a you tube video saying they don't want to be involved

in the uproar and are working together. >> everybody has become closer together and learned that we have to respect everybody. >> and that was robert honda reporting. the rally going on is the latest in a series of demonstrations, all going on today in morgan hill. events like this were started because of the recent court decision that allowed the school to stop students from wearing american t-shirts during cinco de mayo day to keep the environment safe. every group says they want to resolve the dispute and move on, but obstacles remain, the group is calling itself "we the people" and saying the t-shirt controversy is not about the kids being asked to turn in their shirts with american flags. organizers say it is about their children feeling disrespected. we are following developing news out of south san jose.

ktvu learned homicide investigators are at the house where two bodies were found today. police received a tip about gunfire on norma jean way in san jose. asmuth smith is at the scene. >> reporter: if you take a look behind me, you can see the police are investigating this case. we just spoke with police within the last 15 minutes. here is what we know. around 3:30 this afternoon, police were called to a home on the 1500 block of marlene court in south san jose. when they arrived, they found two adult male deceased together inside the home. each of them had at least one gunshot wound. police believe they knew each other. some neighbors say they heard gunfire last night and tell us they are stunned. >> it is bizarre.

i never ran across anything like this. this is really, really odd. this is a quiet neighborhood. very quiet. >> reporter: police are not sure what the motive is or the circumstances surrounding their deaths. right now they are interviewing witnesses, trying to get surveillance video from nearby homes. they do not know how long the bodies were out there for. they do not believe they have any outstanding suspects at this time. we of course will keep you posted on any new developments. live in south san jose. dublin police say an 18 year old man who was shot and killed by officers had a history of drugs and violence. police were called to his apartment last night for a reported disturbance, they say oscar herrara met officers at the door with a baseball bat. >> mr. herrara took the bat and hit the officer in the hand that was holding his firearm. he felt his life was threatened

and immediately fired rounds to stop the threat. >> neighbors say herrara moved in a few months ago along with his mother and sister and all were very nice. dublin police say oscar herrara got in a fight in saturday with a friend in livermore and was threatening the friend and may have been using drugs. a toxicology test has been ordered. a woman accused in the beating of two alameda county sheriffs deputies is speaking out about the incident that led her in jail. allie rasmus is in alameda to talk to the woman. >> reporter: one of the deputies that was beaten was wearing a body camera. it sports the deputies' version of events. >> the narrow hallway of an apartment building was the scene of a fight between residents and sheriffs deputies saturday night. >> it was a violent struggle.

batons were deployed to get compliance, so the officers could defend themselves. >> i was handcuffed. and he started to beat me on my arms. >> reporter: kelly carter and the sheriffs office have different versions of what happened. carter says it started at her home at 11:00 saturday night. a neighbor called police when her husband and brother got in an argument. carter says when deputies arrived she was put in handcuffs and moved towards the deputies when she saw them approach her brother. >> it looked like the officer was going to shoot my brother. i was like please, no, don't shoot him. >> reporter: a police sargent says a recording from the body camera tells a different story. deputies had to defend themselves. >> one of the suspects was proficient in martial arts. it is apparent by the video we have that he was able to utilize his skills effectively and quickly on the deputies. >> kelly says her brother is not trained in martial arts. he was just trying to defend himself and her.

>> and i told him don't shoot my brother, please. then all of a sudden i saw him getting hit with the baton. >> the fight sent a deputy to the hospital with serious injuries. an 8 year veteran of the force had several facial fractures when he was bunched. he was almost knocked unconthus and got up when they saw the men put his partner in a choke hold. >> despite injuries to his face, he found the strength to get up and get back in the fight to save his partner. >> and carter was arrested for felony assault of a police officer. her husband and brother face more serious charges of attempted murder of a police officer. live in san leandro. allie rasmus. safety is a top priority at air shows, but accidents still happen. >> you hope you don't have to respond. if you do, you are there in a heartbeat. >> the answers other pilots are

at travis air force base yesterday. >> reporter: this is eddie andreini three years ago, a man in his element. >> he did air shows through the united states for 35, 40 years. >> obviously something went wrong yesterday when his world war ii plane crashed and burst into flames. >> the number one item is safety first. >> reporter: at the airport, we met the director of the air show. >> we have a thousand foot to 1500-foot deadline from the spectators. >> >> reporter: they are questioning how long it took firefighters to get to the crash site. . >> the response team has to be in a spot where they can get there fast? they are investigating response time.

and fell into san pablo bay. the pilot was killed. the two had flown in an air show an may have been taking pictures at the time of the collision. it is not clear exactly what caused the crash. the two airplanes were seen flying close to each other right before colliding. the pentagon confirmed that a spy plane was flying nearby when the control tower at lax had a computer outage last week. ktvu's heather holmes were among the thousands of passengers delayed by the outage last wednesday. the air force u-2 spy plane was conducting training operations and had filed a flight plan. the faa says the control tower lost the ability to use the system that allows controllers to identify and direct planes at high altitudes. climate change is a danger and will threaten every part of the nation. that is in a government report due out tomorrow. the 1300 page national climate

assessment will be released at a formal white house event. the report was compiled by 300 leading scientists and experts and is expected to guide the president in future policy decisions. on wednesday, you can see bill martin's one-on-one interview with president obama. bill is among a handful of meteorologists chosen to discuss the new report with the president. the only one from the bay area. we'll have his interview with the president wednesday at 5:00, 6:00, and 10:00. bill certainly knows his stuff. it will be interesting to see what he asks the president. let's bring in rosemary orozco who is filling in for bill. it is windy there. >> it is cool and windy today. everybody is in on this. the wind are from the coast or the bay and inland and gusting to near 40 miles per hour at sfo. let's look at some of the winds, novato is 25. 26 in fairfield, 33 in napa. it is all of us experiencing this wind today. sfo, 39 miles per hour with the

gusts, half moon bay 22. hayward reporting 32. 28 in livermore. impressive, san jose 24. the winds are going to continue as we get in the evening hours, not going to die down until the overnight hours, on tuesday it will be breezy but not as bad as today. giving you a look at the satellite and radar, this is a system moving across northern california that is cranking up the wind at home, bringing us the clouds and cooler weather. today is the coolest day of the cooling trend that started a few days ago. we have showers reported over northern california. we have snow in the sierra for tonight. here at home, we've seen a few cells over areas along the north edge of so the county. it is active in the central valley and as you get in the

sierra you see a pink and white mix and showers falling over tahoe. there is an advisory, tonight and tomorrow, if you are driving i-80, there is a winter weather advisory, there will be snow falling down to about 5,000 feet, you could pick up one to three inches. that is good news and exciting. the wind here, again, going to continue, we'll leave in the slight possibility of a few showers here. the models bring in just that slight chance in the overnight hours and that's about it. let's get to the numbers now. mid 50s to 60s. it is cool there. as we get going in the overnight hours into tomorrow, widespread upper 40s to low 50s, for inland cities and around the bay, for the afternoon temperatures will be slightly warmer than today, and right about the seasonal average. the winds won't be so bad. widespread to the warmer
