at 7:00 tonight you would have been wondering what was going on. there were police everywhere trying to contain a riled up crowd but what exactly motivated all of this, that still remains unknown. police cars screaming by, hundreds of high school kids roaming. they were screaming. there were fights, several people were pepper sprayed. all of this after rumors spread among students on social media on a fight that took place near berkeley high. >> i heard there was going to be a fight earl littler today. from this girl. >> reporter: police responded to those rumors but the fights broke out any way. >> it looks like it's been a combination of kids from oakland tech, berkeley technical and berkeley high school. >> reporter: after police arrived the kids spread out to shattick avenue with several fighting breaking out there. >> this guy came out with like a black eye and bloody nose. he was just messed up. >> reporter: this woman was hit

by pepper spray and treated by par medics as was this young man, targeted by the mob. >> he said the people that came after him were not berkeley high students but we don't know that for sure. we had a pretty scared little kid there. >> reporter: it's unknown what sparked all of this. why hundreds of students gathered from other schools and converged around his campus. police say there may be a pattern. >> this is the third friday we've had more and more kids showing up on shaddick. but the most have been more water blooms and youthful exuberance. >> reporter: a lot more happened than tossing water balloons today. social media likely brought all of these people together. but social media is also

helping. he's getting video to track down who was behind all of this. developing news now out of san jose where a small plane had a rough landing at the airport tonight. but the pilot and the two passenger on board were okay. you can see flashing lights on the runway as airport workers were trying to take care of the plane. the airport worker tell us it was a problem with the landing gear when it tried to land. the spokesperson also said this rough landing is not having any impact on airport operations. a san francisco firefighter is taking legal action tonight against her own department. the female firefighter is tied to the runway death of a passenger in last year's asiana crash and now she's calling

herself a scapegoat. >> reporter: she filed a complaint late this afternoon against the city claiming retaliation and the violation of her rights as a firefighter all following the crash landing of asiana flight 219 at san francisco international airport. >> after the crash here, she started questioning things that happened at the scene. >> stop, stop, stop. there's a body right -- there's a body right there. >> reporter: her attorney says duckett arrived after a rescue rig ran over 18-year-old nguyen. >> basically flattened this vick into the ground. then you put the foam over it. >> reporter: he says duckett drove the second truck that ran over nguyen but she was already dead. and there was information

leaked out that duckett was the person who drove over the teen. >> she's an african american lesbian firefighter in a very fraternal organization. so although she is a fire fighter and a good one. >> reporter: we reached out to chief joanne white. a spokesperson for the department says the chief has not seen it yet and cannot comment on pending litigation. but she is quote, proud of all first responders who perform extremely well under extremely difficult situations. katie utehs. a family of three moving from the bay area to texas was involved in a tragic accident.

he's accused of seriously injured another student at a fraternity party and also kicking a dog. jana katsuyama has been digging into the allegations and is outside the jail in berkeley. >> reporter: tamari drew was arrested yesterday but i spoke with his attorney after he met with drew here at the jail today. it appears all of this started with a fight over a dog bite at a fraternity fundraiser. demarie drew was recruited from livermore high school in 2012. a safety on the football team on a full athletic scholarship. now jarue is accused of felony battery and seriously injured another student at a fraternity house. >> the suspect at one point reportedly kicked the victim's dog and the victim reportedly kicked the suspect in the face -- the suspect reportedly kicked the victim in the face. >> reporter: the victim told

police he had been punched at least three times. he had a fractured jaw and now could need reconstructive surgery. today fraternity members told us they didn't want to talk on camera but the victim is back from the hospital in pain and with his jaw wired shut. we spoke with drew's attorney. >> it wasn't anything malicious. >> reporter: drew told police the fight started when the other student's dog bit him. >> wait and be patient before anybody passes about what may have happened. he's a good kid. from a good family, a hard working mother. >> reporter: the news quickly spread through campus. >> it's unfortunate because everybody is proud of the football team. >> it's not good for the school, not good for the football team. i don't know what happened but if he committed a jail he should be in jail. >> they're more of a public individual. it must be really difficult to

be under that spotlight and scrutiny. >> reporter: bail is set at $100,000. an attorney tells me it's likely that drew will remain here in jail through the weekend until monday when he's expected to appear in court. live in berkeley, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. cal's athletic department sent us a statement on the arrest. it says in part we're tracking the case and fully cooperating with the berkeley police department and its investigation. demarie has been suspended indefinitely from the team until further investigation. firefighter say the fire appears to have started in the kitchen. charges were dropped today against a protester arrested

during a heated demonstration in the north bay. the sonoma da's department says it will not retry the case of ramon cairo. jurors dead locked on his charge of resists arrest. we're learning more now about a cluster of whooping cough cases. we told you last night about an increase in the number of cases in morelo. we now know the number of cases is up to nine. a letter sent to parents is warning them about the dangerous of the highly contagious disease. >> in 2010 when there was a big epidemic 10 babies died throughout the state. what we're trying to do is protect the babies from protussis. some tenants in an

apartment building are getting rebates and a cut in rates because of a bedbug infestation. the tenants will have their rents reduced until their rooms are clean of bedbugs and roaches. the 116th recruit class celebrated its graduation this morning. fire chief joanne hayes white said she's very proud of the cadets. today's graduates come from all walks of life. one was a gardener with the city's rec department. now we have windy conditions as the weather system slides to the north and to the east of us.

this family racked up $275 worth of fines hiking their total bill to well over $300. the biggest problems come from irrigation and leaks. >> we're looking for water leaks. following the water back to the source. >> reporter: and on this block that's exactly what we found. >> reporter: a call to the owner came with a promise of a quick resolution. >> i'm going to try to get her on it so we can avoid a fine. >> apparently we're down. we are down so people are doing their part. >> reporter: ann rubin. ktvu news. police are looking for someone who smashed their car right into an apple store and then went off with tens of thousands of the dollars worth of products. investigators say the unusual smash and grab happened just before 3:00 a.m.

a subcontractor is being ordered to pay a fine for this massive fire back in march. authorities say the subcontractor which was not identified was out of compliance with the city's fire code when that six story building that was under construction went up in flames. a report out this week said sparks from cutting and welding work likely start had the fire. an 11-year-old boy suddenly gets caught up in a major case of mistaken identity. the boy was simply walking to school yesterday and as ktvu's

cristina rendon tells us all of a sudden police surrounded him with guns drawn and ordered him to get on the ground. >> reporter: romey walks the same path to school every weekday. the 11-year-old was not far from home when he saw a car with windows shattered. he tried to notify the homeowner. >> i was trying to do a good deed. >> reporter: the 11-year-old had no idea that the owner was inside calling police. >> after they told me to get on the ground they told me to put my hands on the back of the head. >> reporter: they said if you move we will shoot you. so i was scared and i didn't know what to do. >> reporter: romey said he was searched and taken to the high school. his mother is outraged. >> this is my only child and for him to be treated like that that's unacceptable. unacceptable. >> reporter: vallejo police are

return to school after slapping a student but he never showed up. that's because the school decided to keep him on paid leave during the investigation. a group of school children was shaken up this morning when their bus hit a curve in san francisco. the bus driver was making a u turn when the rear tire hit the rear median. the bump jolt some children from their seats. at least six students were taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution. the calfire battalion chief wanted in connection with his girlfriend's murder is wanted for ill luting authorities. the two had shared a home in south sacramento for the last two years. officials say they're having a difficult time locating fleming

because he's a skilled outdoors man familiar with the area. fire detectors inside a home that burned did not work. the fast moving flames tore through the home on april 16th. the cause of the fire is still unknown. a spokeswoman for if fire department says the building did have hard wired smoke detectors and she hoped to be able to better explain why they didn't work sometime next week. cameras caught a violent attack in san francisco's mission district. it happened on april 18th on york street just north of 19th street. watch what happens here. police are hoping that someone out there recognize it is man on the screen. you see him struggling with the woman as she falls down. that's what officers say he hit her with a tire iron. the man then grabbed her

authorities in virginia tonight are looking for the wreckage from this hot air balloon fire. two passengers and a pilot on board are also missing. the faa says the balloon hit a power line, caught fire and crashed around 8:00 tonight. the accident comes on the eve of the mid-atlantic festival. that festival has now been cancelled. it's still under

construction and it won't be in service until the fall. but ktvu's claudine wong just got a first look at what a ride on the new extension to b.a.r.t. to international airport will look like. >> reporter: now the tracks are done right now they are just doing testing and civilians aren't technically allowed to ride on these trains. that doesn't mean we can't use a little technology to show you just what a ride would be like. b.a.r.t. let us attach a couple of go procameras, one to the side and one to the side window. >> it's only after the cpuc signs off on it as safe that we can allow anyone whether it's claudine wong or jerry brown to ride the train. >> reporter: it was worth the trip. it's an eight minute ride, but we sped things up to show you just what it'll look like as the train makes its way down the 3.2-mile track. along the way you will get a bird eye view of oakland and

expensive open market. nice day today. we start off with some cloudy conditions. and then this afternoon we had temperatures warming up into the 60s and low 70s and it got breezy. it's not that warm today. tomorrow temperatures slightly warmer but not much. so lots of mid-70s. the clouds out there right now to the north of us represent this system here. that is kind of a system that's bringing the wind. because the highs trying to build in on that low and it's making the wind go up. as the low moves up, the high is going to cover all of us and we'll kind of the wind will die down and temperatures warm up that is your sunday. you're going to see 49 at oakland. 43 in napa. 47 in vallejo. kind of chilly when you get going. the forecast for san jose tomorrow the forecast high you're going to go back into the upper 60s and low 70s. 72degrees in downtown san jose tomorrow for your saturday. sunday will be warmer.

monday will still be warmer and tuesday and wednesday we could see temperatures into the mid- 90s. as this low pressure center moves up we're going to start to warm up. the cooler milder weather hangs on for saturday. but then it migrates the high kind of fills in and then we get this warming trend. it's going to be powerful. we're going to see temperatures into the hot range on wednesday and thursday and that means upper 90s, mid-90s. maybe triple digits maybe toward. tomorrow lots of mid-70s. nice day just not as warm as it's going to be on mother's day. 72 in pleasanton. we're going to find santa clara county with good air quality. we have windy conditions that clean out the atmosphere. a little patchy fog throughout the coast. here we go right. tomorrow is breezy, nice. sunny. really nice on mother's day. then the rest of the week it's really going to warm up. that will be the weather story
