the investigation in san leandro in this officer involved shooting has just begun. what's happening now. >> reporter: the crime tape is up around this area, you can see evidence markers off to our left pinpointing the shell cases from the shooting. you can see some of the stuff that the robbers had on him, there are cartons of cigarettes on the ground and cash and wallet and clothing thrown here on the parking lot. police say a 22 and 21-year-old man robbed this 7/11 in san leandro. they beat up the store clerk, but that clerk was able to activate a holdup alarm. the robbers were running out of the store. one of the deputies saw the robber reach for something in his belt. that's when the deputy fired

shots striking one of the robbers. the robber crashed on 92 at the international exit. so far investigators have not been able to find a gun on either one of the two men involved in the robbery. this may not have been an armed robbery but jd nelson said it was a dangerous situation for deputies. >> when you are involved in the business of robbing people and beating them up you put yourself in danger of being shot during that process and that's what happened today. >> and the sheriff's spokesman said the 22-year-old man who was shot has an extensive criminal history. he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for a previous incident. he and the robber involved in the crash are in involved in the hospital and their conditions are not known. crime scene technicians are continuing to gather evidence for this investigation.

ktvu news. it was a bumpy landing in san jose but the pilot and the two passengers on board are okay. from our camera in downtown, you can see the flashing lights from emergency vehicles, a spokesman from the airport said the rough landing did not have any impact on flight operations, it was later determined that there was a problem with the plane's landing gear. they're accused of breaking another student's jaw and kicking a dog. this man is scheduled to be arraigned on monday on a charge of felony battery. berkeley police were called to the fraternity house earlier this week. the alleged victim said drew punched him several times and attacked his dog. the fight started when the dog bit drew. >> he's hopeful that once we get the opportunity to speak with all the people that were were involved they'll realize

festival that was set to begin today. burglary police are looking for burglars who smashed into an apple store. it happened on fourth street. they left the old black pontiac at the scene. apple customers who had appointments were turned away from the store. >> we're not going to take any appointments until further notice. one apple employee said $40,000 worth of phones, tablets computers and monitors were taken. police have not said if there is more than one burglar or even if that car was stolen. a national landmark reopens on monday nearly three years after a devastating earthquake, the washington monument has closed since 2011. it actually shifted part of the 55 story building. the monument is made out of

a reward is being offered about graffiti in danville. the graffiti threatened harm on may 8th. no events were reported, this may have been a prank, but they're taking it seriously. they're offering are a $1,000 reward for anyone who knows anything about it, and they're hoping someone will come forward. we told you about increases in cases at the elementary school in martinez. there are nine cases of confirmed whooping cough. there is danger in the infection. >> ten babies died through the the state. what we're trying to do is

protect the babies from it. >> they've confirmed 49 cases in contra costa county of whooping cough. they've seen 17 in napa and nine in the last two weeks. there were 13 cases in napa county reported for the entire year. all three of this year's cases are children in middle school or high school. some in west oakland are getting rebates and a cut in rent, that's because of an infestation of bed bugs and roaches. they've given a dozen tenants at the emery apartments thousands of dollars in rebates. the hearing officer who decided the case said the tenants will have their rent reduced until their apartments are free of roaches and bed bugs. thousands are expected to gather at the great wall of

northwesterly breeze. it's generally light out there. it's breezy in and around half moon bay. winds will pick up during the lunch hour from 10 to 20 miles per hour. by the second half of the afternoon and into the evening hours this is when the winds will be at their strongest gusting to near 40 degrees once again along the coastline and notice they're very widespread from napa to contra costa and santa rosa. the closer you are to the coast the chances are the breezier it will be. temperaturewise santa rosa 49, 49 walnut creek and upper 40s to low 50s and even 60 degrees in oakland. it's a lot like we had yesterday, slightly warmer for some. 72 san jose, 60 in oakland, 65

in san francisco, and cool and brisk along the coastline. today will be and mild one. tomorrow we start to talk about a big warmup coming our way and i'll line those numbers up coming up. a robbery at a 7-11 leads to a deputy involved shooting. this is a live picture of the convenience store on fairmont drive and east 14th street. investigators have sealed off that area for hours now as they continue to collect evidence. you can see the markers there. just before 1:30 this morning, they responded to a security alarm that was going up. as soon as they arrived at the store, they saw two suspects running from the 7-11 into a car. the sheriff's department spokesman one of the suspects reached into his pocket and it caused the deputy to open fire. >> the suspect is in the hospital and he did confirm that the store had been robbed. we recovered the money on one

of the suspects. >> the wounded suspect remained on the scene, the other suspect drove away and he was chased and crashed into a concrete road barrier. one was taken to the hospital for observation, they did not recover a gun but the clerk was beaten up during the robbery. a woman is mourning the loss of her daughter, 37-year- old natalie was driving with her boyfriend and her 16-year- old son, all three are deaf. they were on an interstate in new mexico when a big rig crashed into it and it killed her and her boyfriend. >> losing my daughter is horrible. it's really hard. >> her son was in the front passenger seat.

access every cal fire station in the state. he's armed and may be hiding out in the santa cruz mountains. >> he's got weapons on him that have not been accounted for. he's an avid outdoors man and knows how to survive in rugged areas. deputies have been told to be on the lookout. investigators are trying to figure out what caused the military jet to crash into the desert in arizona. the pilot ejected before the crash. it happened near the indian community. the cause of that crash has not yet been determined. more information is coming now regarding the deadly collision near the bay. the pilot who survived the crash said he heard a thump and saw the other maine, a single engine cessna plummet. they had taken part in an air

show. the surviving pilot suggested anything close together to make a good photograph. the san francisco fire department, she blamed her of the death of a passenger and leaked her to the media. she survived the crash but died when she was run over a truck. another one ran over her twice, and the department used her as a scapegoat. >> the department targeted her in order to hide the lack of training to the commanding officers to hide the violation of the rules that occurred out there on the field. >> she also claims that she was african american and a lesbian and has a history of filing

harassment complaints. she's proud of all first responders who performed well under extraordinary circumstances. a violent attack was caught on york street north of 19th street. officers say he hit her with a tire iron and then you can see at the top of the screen she falls down and the man grabs her bag and she gets up and chases after him. he did get away. they are hoping someone recognizes the man in the video. petaluma police have a led that could end this ordeal, a surveillance video is from cal west rentals. it says when the man never returned the trailer and generator he used he used a fake credit card and a stolen id. he said his driver's license was stolen a few months ago. >> i really hope that this guy gets caught because he's using my name all over the place.

police say the suspect has rented and never returned several constructed related items. he probably works in construction or knows someone he can sell that equipment to. anyone with information on this case is asked to call the petaluma police department. someone is trying to drive them away, four businesses have been tagged with graffiti, the words get lost were spray painted on a window. the man who owns the businesses said he fell in love with the neighborhood because of diversity and now the vandals are accusing him of discrimination. >> it's a great group of people and they have meaningful work and for them to have to start their day with scrubbing hateful speech is a tough way to get it going. >> they say it's not responsible for the environment, it's boycotting

. stand is welcoming 39 new firefighters to the department. the 116th recruit class celebrated graduation this morning. one wife is proud of all of them. one used to be a gardner with the city's parks and rec department. president obama is back in washington today after a successful fundraising trip to the bay area. he flew off on air force one. he joked he had to return home in time for mother's day. they raised millions of dollars for democratic candidates. he concluded history with a speech on renewable energy at a wal-mart store in interview.

reach all the way into the upper 90s perhaps hitting a hundred degrees by wednesday inland cities, 80s for the bay area and 80s along the coast. back to the desk. the city of pittsburg is putting the final touches for a dog park. they're going to have separate fenced areas at highlands ranch park, and the grand opening will take place on may 31st. walnut creek has decided to cut back on library hours. right now, they're opening 56 hours a week, but starting july 1st they'll be opening 44 hours a week. the schedule has yet to be worked out. the cuts will likely lead to layoffs and services. google is teaming up with a city of mountain view.

is okay. the two men accused of robbing him are in the hospital this morning. it started at 1:30 p.m., the police say a 22 and 21-year-old man robbed this 7-11 and beat up a store clerk. he was able to push a button to alert the police about the robbery, and he saw someone reach for something in his waistband and that's when he shot striking the young man. and the other took off in a car and he crashed it at the industrial exit and investors investigators have not been able to be find a gun on that vehicle or either one of the two robbers. but, jd nelson said it was still a dangerous situation for deputies. >> when you were involved in the business of robbing people and beating them up you put yourself at great danger of

the afternoon today. mother's day, we have a big warmup coming our way and eventually we will be 20 to 25 degrees warmer than what you see on this screen. i'll show you that in the extended forecast, coming up. new this morning, an officer-involved shooting inial immediate ga county. it began with a suspected robbery at a 7-eleven in san leandro. allie rasmus is live at the store where she talked to the sheriff's office about the shooting and high-speed chase that followed. >> reporter: investigators and crime scene technicians are still out here at the scene. we saw a group of a half dozen investigators come out of the 7- eleven store. looks like they are taking inventory of some of the evidence that crime scene technicians have gathered. he behind us, you can see the spot where an alameda county sheriffs deputy fired several shots. some of those shots struck the robber. you can see some of the robber's personal items at the scene. there's clothing and several packs of cigarettes. now, this all happened at 1:30 this morning. police say a 21 and 22-year-old

man ran into the convenience store, beat up the store clerk, and took off with an undisclosed amount of money from the register and other items from the store. the clerk was able to activate a silent alarm. alameda county sheriffs detectives arrived just as the robbers were running out of the store. one of the deputies saw one of the robbers reach toward his waist band. the deputy felt threatened and opened fire. some of the shots hit the robber. so far, it appears this was not an armed robbery, because investigators haven't been able to find a gun on either one of the two men involved in the robbery. >> any time you have these situations, they can be very dangerous. again, you have to make split second decisions. >> reporter: the crime scene went beyond the 7-eleven parking lot, to several bay area freeways. one of the robbers led the detectives on a chase. the second man crashed his car in heyward near the industrial

exit. both robbers are in the hospital. we don't know their medical conditions. sheriffs investigators haven't had a chance to search the wrecked car of one of the robbers, but it doesn't appear this was an armed robbery. crime scene technicians are still out here taking inventory of some of the evidence they have gathered. there's dozens of evidence markers out here. investigators are still on the scene. this 7-eleven on east 14th and fairmont in san leandro is still closed as part of the investigation. live in san leandro, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. walnut creek police are looking for a man who snatched a woman's purse yesterday morning on olympic boulevard near south main street. police say the man ran into a parking garage, then drove off in a white pickup truck with two other men inside. anyone who may have seen the crime is asked to call the walnut creek police department. it was a bumpy ride for a small plane in san jose last night, but the pilot and two passengers on board are okay after the rough landing. from our camera in downtown, you can see the flashing lights of emergency vehicles that

raced down the runway. a spokeswoman for the airport says the rough landing did not have any impact on flight operations. it was later determined there was a problem with the plane's landing gear. berkeley police say rumors of a big fight outside berkeley high school brought hundreds of teenagers from different schools to the campus. police say the rumors were spread through social media. officers showed up after school to keep the peace, but several fights broke out anyway. the crowd then spread to shattuck avenue. several students were assaulted and three people were pepper sprayed. >> this guy came out with a black eye and bloody nose. he was messed up. >> looks like it's been a combination of kids from oakland tech, berkeley technical and berkeley high school. >> police say yesterday was the third recent friday that large crowds of students showed up on shattuck avenue. three students were arrested for assault. a cal football player remains in jail on $100,000 bond this morning, accused of

breaking another student's jaw and kicking his dog. 20-year-old demaria drew is a sophomore who plays safety. he's scheduled to be arraigned on monday on charge of felony battery. berkeley police were called to a fraternity earlier this week. the alleged victim says drew punched him several times and attacked his dog, a 20-pound jack russell mix. drew's attorney says the fight started when the dog bit drew. >> he's hopeful that once we get an opportunity to speak with all the people that were involved, they will realize it wasn't a premeditated fight, it wasn't anything malicious. >> fraternity members did not want to appear on camera, but tell us the alleged victim is back in the hospital with his jaw wired shut and could need reconstructive surgery. cal's athletic department sent us a statement on the arrest. it reads in part, we are tracking the case, fully cooperating with the berkeley police department in its

investigation. demaria has been indefinitely suspended from the team, pending further information. new information in the search for 276 school girls kidnapped by terrorists in nigeria. a second group of american investigators is heading to africa today to assist in the search. that group includes members of the fbi and the state department. they are joining some u.s. military advisors who arrived in nigeria yesterday. england is also sending security experts. they say they want to find the girls, but are also trying to dismantle the boca haram islamist group. amnesty international is also criticizing nigerian military, after it failed to respond after being told about the mass kidnapping. first lady michelle obama has been a loud voice in the effort to find the girls, taking the opportunity to express outrage over the kidnappings. >> this unconscionable act was committed by a terrorist group

determined to keep these girls from getting an education. grown men attempting to snuff out the aspirations of young girls. >> the first lady says she is trying to raise awareness about the plight of women in nigeria. she earlier tweeted a photo of herself holding a paper that read "bring back our girls." the bay area is holding a vigil for the girls, starting at 6:30 monday night at the plaza on the 200 block of university avenue in palo alto. organizers say they want to stand in solidarity with their sisters in nigeria. well, in about an hour, oakland mayor jean quan is going to host a town hall meeting. she says it will be a chance for residents to address their concerns. police chief sean went and oakland unified superintendent will be there to answer questions. the meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. at brett heart middle school on coolidge avenue. if you can't make today's meeting, there will be another one next month. the city of napa is reporting a decrease in some

crimes. napa police say last year's crime rate dropped 12% lower than the year before. they say there were fewer burglaries, thefts and stolen vehicles. recent data shows rapes and robberies slightly increased. places in calistoga also saw an increase in crime according to those county stats. it is the largest single- day food drive in the nation. today, you can help by dropping off canned food at your mailbox. today marks the annual stamp out hunger event, designed to provide assistance to those who struggle to put food on the table every day. last year, the stamp out hunger drive collected more than 800,000 pounds of food for bay area food banks, but the need still remains high. >> we don't just deliver the mail. we also deliver food. in doing so, when we are distributing the mail, if there is any canned good, nonperishable items placed in the mailbox, we will pick it up, bring it back to our station. >> again, to participate, all

. a body has been found at the site of a hot air balloon crash in virginia. the balloon hit a power line, caught fire, and crashed last night with three people on board. witnesses say they saw that balloon in flames and heard people screaming for help. the body was found in a wooded area shortly before midnight. crews are still searching for the two others who are still missing. >> we've also found kind of a debris field. we found different items that would have been inside the hot air balloon. this is very helpful for us in our search efforts, because now we kind of have an area of concentration. >> the hot air balloon was to be part of the festival set to begin today. berkeley police are looking for a car that smashed into an apple store and then stole thousands of dollars worth of product yesterday before 3:00 a.m. it happened on the apple story on 4th street: apple customers

who had appointments yesterday were turned away from the store. >> i said could i make another appointment? she said yeah, for bay street or san francisco, but we're not going to take any appointments until further notice. >> one apple employee who did not want to be identified says about $40,000 worth of phones, tablets, computers and monitors were taken. police have not said if there was more than one burglar or if the car that was left behind was stolen. a walk is planned in san leandro this morning for the friends and family members of homicide victims. a group called 1000 mothers to prevent violence organized the annual 3k walk at san leandro marina park. the group was founded by lorain taylor who lost her 22-year-old twin sons to violence in oakland. the walk starts at 10:00 this morning. the city of santa cruz is taking action to keep people from wasting water. yesterday, ktvu rode along with a water department enforcer. he's out helping educate residents about mandatory 25% cuts in water use.

neil christian says the biggest problems are leaks and excessive landscape watering. >> we are looking essentially for water in the street, following the water back to the source. >> homeowners who don't comply can be fined up to $50 for every unit of water above the limit. the water department says in just the first week of enforcement, they are already noticing a difference. many bay area cities still have not recovered from the effects of the housing crisis. data released from uc berkeley's underwater america report shows many homeowners are stuck paying more than their homes are now worth. people living in vallejo, fairfield, antioch, richmond appear to be the most affected here in the bay area. the report also found most underwater homeowners are more than likely low income or minorities. the most stressed-out city in the country? it's washington, dc. here in the bay area, san francisco and oakland both made the top 10 lists at numbers 4 and 6. it was put together by

>> he was so close to his jet that he was sure he had collided with it. thankfully, inspection of the airliner after landing found no damage. >> authorities say they do not know who was flying the drone, but that it could have brought down the plane. the faa estimates in the next five years there could be as many as 7500 drones flying in u.s. air space at any given time. more information is coming out regarding last month's deadly midair collision over san pablo bay. in a preliminary report, the pilot who survived the crash heard a thump, then saw the other plane, a single-engine cessna plummet. the pilots knew one another and had taken part in an air show. the surviving pilot says the other pilot suggested flying close together to make a good photograph. we are learning more information about a cluster of whooping cough cases in contra costa county. we told you yesterday about the increases in cases at morelo park in martinez. we now know the total number of confirmed cases is up to nine

there. a letter sent to parents warns them about the danger of the highly contagious infection. >> in 2010 when there was a really big epidemic across california, 10 babies died throughout the state. what we're really trying to do is protect the babies from pertussis. >> so far this year, health officials say they have confirmed 49 cases in contra costa county. some tenants in an apartment building in west oakland are getting rebates and a cut in rent. it's all because of an infestation of bedbugs and roaches. the city's rental adjustment board has given a dozen tenants at the booker emery apartments they're peralta and 7th streets thousands of dollars in rebates. the hearing officer who decided the case said the tenants will have their rent reduced until their apartments are inspected and found to be free of roaches and bed bugs. a reward is being offered for information about graffiti at charlotte danville school near the school's entrance. it threatened harm on may 0th. no events were reported.

police say this may have been a prank, but they are taking it seriously. the town of danville and the san ramon school district are offering a $1000 reward, hoping they will convince someone to come forward. a national landmark reopens on monday. nearly three years after a devastating earthquake, the washington monument closed since august of 2011. a magnitude 5.8 wake in nearby virginia shifted part of the 55- story building. the monument is made of 100,000 tons of solid rock. the quake loosened some of those stones and caused several cracks. one was 4 feet long. that was near the top of the building. private donations paid for the $15 million restoration project. the public is invited to a free party next week to mark the grand re-opening of san francisco's coit tower. the 81-year-old tower has been closed since last october for major repairs. back in march we showed you the artists at work, restoring the tower's depression-era murals. the tower also has a new roof, better lighting and better

day, a big warmup coming our way, and it is a trend that will take us all the way into next week. i'll have a look at numbers for you, coming up. new this morning, two crime scenes in two cities. one's a robbery at a san leandro 7-eleven, the other a crash in heyward. in between the two incidents, a deputy-involved shooting. allie rasmus is live for us outside the convenience store in san leandro, with the story. allie? >> reporter: well, the sign in front of the 7-eleven on east 14th and fairmont in san leandro says open, but this story has been closed since 1:30 this morning shortly after attempted robbery that happened here. it remains closed to the public. there's crime scene tape across the parking lot here and crime scene technicians are still doing their work. this started at 1:30 a.m. police say a 21 and 22-year-old man robbed the 7-eleven on east 14th and fairmont in san leandro, beat up the store clerk, but the clerk was able to activate a hold-up alarm. sheives deputies arrived just as the robbers were running out of the store. according to the sheriff's

office, one of the deputies says he saw the robber reach for something in his waist band. that's when the deputy fired several shots, striking one of the robbers. a second robber took off in a car. sheriffs deputies chased him and the robber crashed on highway 92 at the industrial exit. so far, investigators have not been able to find a gun on either one of the two robbers. it appears this was not an armed robbery that happened, but alameda county sheriffs spokesman says it was a dangerous situation for deputies. >> when you are involved in the business of robbing people and beating them up, you put yourself at great danger of being shot during that process, and that's what happened today. >> reporter: nelson says the 22- year-old man who was shot has an extensive criminal history. he was on probation and parole and had been arrested seven times before this incident. now, according to the sheriff's office, the 22-year-old man also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for resisting arrest during another incident. he and the robber involved in the crash are both in the

hospital. we don't know their conditions, but the sheriff's office says both men are expected to recover from their injuries. live in san leandro, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. police in san joaquin county are turning in their guns after uncovering a problem that may keep those guns from firing. [ gunfire ] >> the problem was discovered during a training exercise at the sheriffs gun range. the gun maker says the problem is with the pin that holds the spring in place. it says it may have installed the wrong pins. so rather than test the 300- plus guns purchased, the sheriff's office decided to just pull all of them off of the street. >> we're not going to take a chance that a gun is in service out there when a deputy sheriff may need it to protect their lives or somebody else and the gun fails. that's unacceptable. >> deputies were systematically pulled off the streets for several hours on thursday afternoon so those new guns could be replaced with older

ones. officials with the gun maker are expected to fly to san joaquin county to fix the problem. a family in vacaville is mourning the loss of their 37- year-old daughter, killed while on her way to texas to start a new life. last monday morning, 37-year- old natalie levine was driving with her boyfriend and her 16- year-old son raymond. all three are deaf. they were on an interstate in new mexico when a big rig rear ended levine's car. there was an explosion and her car rolled over several times, killing her and her boyfriend. >> losing my daughter, it's unbearable. it's really hard. >> levine's son was in the front passenger seat. he says he was asleep when the crash happened and remembers his mother putting out her arm to protect him. once in the hospital, he did not know how to contact relatives, so he reached out through facebook and was reunited. friends have now started an online account to help the

family with expenses. well, we are learning more information about a fire that claimed the lives of two people in sunnyvale. it happened at a mobile home early thursday morning. investigators say statements made by the sole survivor indicate that a man who lived in that home helped him escape. then, that man decided to go back inside to rescue a woman, but neither made it out alive. the sole survivor is mentally disabled and told firefighters he lived there with his parents. the identities of the victims have still not yet been confirmed. firefighters say that fire apparently started in the kitchen. a state-wide manhunt is under way for a former calfire battalion chief accused of killing his girlfriend. 55-year-old orrville fleming has been missing since may 1st after his 26-year-old girlfriend was found dead in their home in sacramento. fleming was fired from calfire thursday, but investigators say he still has keys that can access every calfire station in the state. they also say he's armed and may be hiding out in the santa

cruz mountains. >> if he's alive, we're assuming he's got the weapons on him that have not been accounted for. >> investigators say fleming is an avid outdoorsman who knows how to survive in rugged areas. the santa cruz county sheriff's department says deputies have been told to be on the lookout. a san francisco firefighter has filed charges against her own department, for blaming her for the death of a 16-year-old passenger and then leaked her name to the media. an investigation found the girl initially survived the crash, but she died when she was run over by a truck. the lawsuit alleges another truck ran over the girl twice before her truck ran over her. the attorney says the department used her as a scapegoat. >> the department targeted my client in order to hide the lack of training of the commanding officers, in order to hide the violation of the rules that occurred out there on the field. >> the suit also claims the

department was trying to silence the firefighter because she is african american and a lesbian and has a history of filing harrasment complaints. a spokesperson for the department says the chief cannot comment on pending litigation. petaluma police have a new lead that could help put an end to one man's identity theft ordeal. this surveillance video is from cal west rentals. it was recorded last saturday. cal west says when the man never returned the trailer and generator he rented, they realized he was using a fake credit card and stolen id. that id belonged to a san francisco man who says his driver's license was stolen a few months ago. >> i really hope that, you know, this guy gets caught because he's using my name all over the place. >> police say the suspect has rented and never returned several construction-related items. they say he probably works in construction or at least knows someone he can sell the equipment to. anyone with information about this case is asked to call the petaluma police department. some merchants in san francisco's mission district say someone is trying to drive

them away. four businesses have been tagged with graffiti. the words "get lost" were spray painted on a window. a man who owns several businesses in the mission district says he fell in love with the neighborhood because of its diversity. however, he says the vandals are now accusing him of discrimination. >> to start the morning, clean up the windows with my staff, who it's a great group of people, come in every day to do meaningful work. for them to have to start their day by scrubbing hateful speech off of our windows is a tough way to get it going. >> a group called the alliance of californians for community empowerment says it is not responsible for the vandalism. however, it is boycotting the four stores, saying some people in the neighborhood were told to leave because they did not fit the clientele. it is still under construction and won't be in service until the fall, but now we are getting a first look at what a ride on the new bart connector to the oakland airport will look like.

patrol officers and dispatch. the department says it is looking for people to uphold its mission statement, providing public safety through professional law enforcement. people can apply through the fremont police website. well, it is being called a case of mistaken identity. an 11-year-old boy's attempt to help out a neighbor in vallejo ended with him held at gunpoint and handcuffed. >> i was trying to do a good deed. >> rammy men says he was walking to school thursday morning when he saw a car with its window shattered on the street. he tried to notify the homeowner by knocking on the door. the boy had no idea the homeowner was calling police. several minutes later, the sixth grader was surrounded on the sidewalk in front of the home by officers with their guns drawn. >> they said if you move, we will shoot you, so i started crying and i was scared, and i didn't know what to do. >> the 11-year-old was in the wrong place at the wrong time and it's a tragedy that he had to go through something like

that. >> the homeowner told police she was scared because someone had shot at the home and vandalized the car a day before. the boy's mother says she's angry about what happened because she says police never called her. the city of pittsburg is putting the final touches on a dog park, with separate fenced areas for small and large dogs at highlands ranch park. a grand opening ceremony will take place may 31. google is offering to team up with the city of mountain view with a trail crossing project, making it easier for people to cross the creek at charleston road. the city council approved an at- grade crossing, but google is saying an under road crossing would be safer. a man in santa barbara is fighting a ticket he received when installing parking signs. he was putting up signs saying

this morning, isn't that a good- looking start to the day? wow, mostly sunny skies, winds still light in most areas, and so it feels pretty good outside our doors as well. i did get a tweet from windsor this morning. tom says breezy and cool. yes, along the coast today, breezy and cool, and especially windy for the second half. giving you a look here, this is the system going to be responsible for picking up winds into the afternoon. the center is over oregon. it's going to be moving southeast. we won't get any rain out of this, but you can see just the northern edge of california being clipped here. it will stay north of mendocino county. for us, mostly sunny, mild temperatures once again, and the winds will be howling for the second half of the day along the coast, just inside the bay. it's a fairly widespread event. yesterday, we had the winds pick up and i think we'll see a near-repeat for the second half of your saturday. then we get into the warming trend. today, a tad warmer than yesterday, but most of us may not notice so much. by sunday, mother's day, 5 to 10 degrees of warming
