this afternoon. someone called 911 about a vegetation fire. they saw a building and the home on fire. they were able to contain the fire so it didn't damage any other homes. the cal fire chief tells me the fires in southern california played a role here. >> we have reduced staffing. we have a lot of resources in southern california. we hit this hard with two air tankers, a helicopter, eight rangens and put everybody to work -- echingskins put everybody to work -- engines and put everybody to work. >> theome owner lived -- theome owner -- the homeowner lived here for 18 years. cal fire tells me this is the first vegetation fire where they lost a home this year and they predict a bad fire season. live in gilroy, ktvu channel 2 news.

impact your bay area weekend. that is what they need in san diego a break from the weather, a fierce fire fight in san diego county, firefighters are calling it unprecedented. they have been battling 9 wildfires since yesterday fueled by hot temperatures and bone dry vegetation. you are looking at a fire nato. a column of fire that is swirling around like a tornado. the report from the fire lines on what firefighters and people living there are up against. >> reporter: firefighters in san diego county are battling a collection of wildfires that have already burned 9,000 acres. officials are deploying additional air tankers and helicopters to the region. 120,000 emergency notifications were sent to people in san diego county. the carlsbad alone issued 23,000 evacuations. >> we have bad air quality. it is not just the carlsbad

hole. a viewer tweeted us this photo. shows an suv that got stuck. no word yet what caused the read it buckle. b.a.r.t. service is back on track after delays for the day when a person stepped in front of a train. news chopper 2 washington, d.c. over head when police officers and firefighters responded. it was shut down for a time. it is believed it was a suicide. it created 30men delays and they last -- 30 minute delays and they lasted for several hours. a big rig that set off a fire has been removed. the accident happened after midnight on market street in san francisco. we know the hood of the big rig popped open and the driver lost control. the truck slammed into a funeral home and set the big rig and building on fire.

the truck was carrying fuel at the time. the two men in the rig were taken to the hospital. new at 6:00 p.m. security plans going into place and protesters gearing up as a community awaits a decision on the sheriff's deputy who shot and killed a 13-year-old boy. it depends on whether the district attorney decides to file charges against that deputy who killed andy lopez. as ktvu's rob roth reports, that decision could come any day now. >> memorial for andy lopez sits quietly where the 13-year-old was shot to death last october by a sheriff's deputy who mistook a bb gun for a assault rifle. activists are growing impatientt waiting for a -- impatient waiting for a decision on whether to file charges against the deputy. the district attorney would

offer no time table. >> the response of our politicians have been there- there, we will do it right but no results. we are frustrated. >> reporter: she is a leader of the justice for coalition for andy lopez. if they decide against bringing charges, expect protests she says. >> we plan a non-violent response. that is our plan. >> the sheriff's department is getting ready for protests by conducting crowd control training and shifting scheduled to have as many -- schedules to have as many deputies available as possible. a spokesman told ktvu channel 2 news about 3 dozen volunteers are being trained to help diffuse violent incidents and keep demtrations peaceful -- demonstrations peaceful. >> anything could happen.
