california. we continue this cool pattern or will we warm it up for the holiday weekend? >> reporter: and part of a major freeway is shut down for several days. we'll tell you what drivers should expect. we're live in oakland this morning where a man was hit and killed by a car last night. police say it was not an accident. coming up in two minutes, ktvu's tara moriarty will tell us about the unusual investigation underway right now. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. steve, will we see any sun today? >> some areas will. there's a rather strong fog bank of. i think it's getting helped along by this system. the low is on the move, this time out of sierra and central california, sanwa dean valley,

on -- san joaquin valley, on the way to southern california. we have drizzle. half moon bay, el granada, summer has arrived along the coast. a lot of low clouds. mostly sunny but cool to mild to warm. we'll get a big difference in these temperatures. getting to that temperature range where anywhere from 50s to upper 80s if you are far enough away from the coast. 65 in san francisco. a low cloud deck in place. there's plenty to go around. pretty good rain stretching from fresno to vie viselia. plenty to work with down there. they had a good gust at travis. even 18 out of oakland airport. we have a westerly breeze in place and a fog basmg. you -- fog bank. it's mainly up around 1300 to

almost 2,000 feet. morning drizzle or mist, breezy at times. temperatures, 50s, 60s, 70s and a low and few mid-80s away from the coast. here's sal. we have a lot of slow traffic. traffic times have more than doubled on 80 between the carquinez bridge for the entire stretch of the freeway down to the macarthur maze, 42 minutes. remember, when it's going well, it's 17 or 18 minutes. we're seeing traffic times that have spiked a little bit. not as bad as they could. on monday, we had a terrible day. 42 minutes is the average drive time. at the bay bridge, the average drive time getting into san francisco is 30 minutes if you are counting from the end of the line unless you are in the carpool lane, remember, chp does enforcement on that carpool lane. the last few days i've seen them out there looking for the right amount of people or the right sticker. just remember, the tickets are expensive. don't do it unless you have the right amount of people.

680 southbound, we've had gravel and dirt spilled, southbound 680 near highway 84. traffic is sold out from pleasanton near the 580/680 interchange. that's a terrible exchange. some of these drive times, as you can see, are up, including the one on the bottom. 580 grant line road to 680 is 40 minutes. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. an unusual homicide in oakland. police say a man was struck and killed by a car but it was no accident. tara moriarty joins us live from the scene of the crime to tell us more about this homicide investigation. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, good morning. we did check in with the mercedes-benz dealership to see if we could take a look at their surveillance video. they do have video. they are poring over it right now, trying to see if they can see anything that happened here last night. if you take a look behind me here in front of this fog check

shop, this is where a man ran over a man. two people got into a fight. the suspect got into a car and intentionally ran over the man. police are remaining very tight- lipped about this investigation. witnesses have provided police with a description of the suspect's car. the coroner has not released the name of the victim. we don't know what the argument was about or if the suspect and the victim knew each other. there are surveillance cameras that might show what happened. police will be looking at that later to see if it provides any clues. we'll see if we can get ahold of that video for you later this morning. anyone with information about this case is urged to contact police. live from oakland, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. a salinas police officer is recovering from injuries he suffered during a violent protest last night. police say the officer was struck in the head with a

bottle while responding to a gang shooting in east salinas. investigators say the officer was performing cpr on the shooting victim when he was attacked. several police cars were damaged by rocks, bricks and bottles last my. earlier in the day, several hundred protesters gathered in the same area to protest two deadly police shootings in salinas during the past two weeks. san francisco police say something needs to be done to clear a backlog of investigations into officer- involved shootings. the san francisco examiner reports the average investigation takes two years. critics say that leaves officers in limbo and can potentially compromise cases. this is video of an officer- involved shooting in march where a 28-year-old was shot and killed after drawing a stun gun mistaken for a real gun. 20 investigations dating back to 2011 are still under review. a high school student in larkspur facing charges,

accused of bringing a replica gun to school. take a look at the photo from police of that fake gun. the staff at san andreas high school called police yesterday morning. police surrounded that school and redwood hal, which is nearby -- school, which is nearby. police arrested lorenzo anthony brooks of sausalito. happening today, a santa rosa woman accused of grabbing a 12-year-old boy by the throat is due to appear in court. prosecutors say delia garcia- bratcher went to olivet school at lunch time where she would find the boy. she's accused of grabbing him by the neck and shoferring him and telling him not to bother her daughter. state lawmakers are joining the fight to save city college of san francisco. bay area lawmakers in the state

senate and assembly have introduced legislation to give city time more time to fix problems and avoid being closed down. the commission said it cannot legally extend the july 31st deadline. but this week, nancy pelosi of san francisco said she confirmed with the department of education that the deadline can be extended. a new morality clause in teachers' contracts is quickly leading to a crisis at catholic schools in the diocese of oakland. today's oakland tribune reports three teachers have now quit over the clause and a growing number of students are withholding donations to the more than 50 catholic schools in the diocese. the new clause requires teachers to abide by the teachings of the catholic church both at home and at school. critics of the clause are concerned teachers could be fired for being gay, having section outside of marriage, or

even for using birth control. happening today -- drivers in san francisco, you may face a traffic mess as a major freeway will be partially shut down starting tonight at 9:00 p.m. we're talking about southbound interstate 280 between cesar chavez and the king street onramp. that's where ktvu's alex savidge is live this morning and you've got a warning from the chp about heading into the city this memorial day weekend. good morning, alex. >> reporter: probably not a good idea to come to the city unless you really have to. there are events going on, including giants' games going on this weekend. but the chp says expect some big-time backups. a lot of people like to use 280 to get into and out of the downtown area. mean people hop on king street. this memorial day weekend, that will not be an option, at arrest if you want to go south. you can see the warning signs from caltrans letting everybody know starting at 9:00, the

southbound lanes of 280 will be closed for important demolition work. now, the closure will last through the weekend with the freeway opening up early tuesday morning. a two-mile stretch of the southbound lanes will be closed and they will be closed during a very busy weekend in this part of the city with the giants playing at at&t park on friday, saturday, sunday, and monday. there will be extra officers onhand doing traffic control to ease congestion and the chp is ready for confused and frustrated drivers. >> it's a big deal to people that aren't used to taking alternate routes. so that's all we ask, if people plan accordingly. if they have to travel downtown, look ahead of time mapquest, navigation to try to plot out alternate routes before they make it down here. >> reporter: and this partial freeway shutdown will allow construction crews to demolish part of a roadway and replace some important seismic safety hinges. this closure will be just the

beginning. there will be two other closures upcoming here on 280. the northbound lanes of the freeway will be shut down over the 4th of july weekend and the labor day weekend. so that will be coming up for folks in the area. as for the closure of this memorial day weekend, it begins tonight at 9:00 and the freeway is expected to open back up early, 5:00 a.m. on tuesday morning. we're live in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. 7:11. hundreds of san francisco muni riders say they have been unfairly ticketed for skipping out 0 on paying bus fare because clippard car readers were broken. since july 55 riders have received a $100 fare evasion ticket. many said they tried to pay the $2 fare but they couldn't because the readers were broken. muni officials say if a reader is not working, you still have to pay cash or use the second card reader on the bus.

new this morning, thailand's military has could be firearmed a coup has taken place -- confirmed a coup has taken place after confirming marcia law in the state. this occurred after groups failed to reach an agreement ending months of protests. the army has declared a curfew and announced new restrictions on demonstrations, news reports and social media. it's also suspended thailand's constitution. google has surpassed apple as the most valuable brand in the world. an annual ranking shows google's brand value went up 40% over the past year with help from google glass, artificial intelligence and google's android operating system. apple is now second after a three-year run at being number one. ibm and microsoft came in third and fourth. a mobile app to help you

get a taxi, it's expanding to the east bay now. it's called flywheel. it will be available in oakland, berkeley, alameda and emeryville. this app allows smartphone users to hail, track and pay for a cab. it's already up and running in san francisco, los angeles, and seattle. some stores are using special technology to track their customers and that is raising privacy concerns. analysts say new technology from the security company 3vr lets retailers use facial recognition technology to track individual shoppers. the company won't say which stores are using it but say both big box stores and specialty retail stores use it. the technology gives stores information about a shoppers' age, gender, and even what mood they are in. >> it's kind of creepy that technology has infiltrated our life to that extent that they can track that. >> you want the best by you can

get, anybody, but i still feel it's an invasion of privacy. >> the cameras track how often shoppers visit stores and whether they buy anything. stores use the data to improve customer service, they say, but privacy advocates say customers never gave permission to be tracked. four police cars in alameda will soon be equipped with automatic license plate readers. the sit county approved spending $80,000 for the cameras. tiburon and piedmont have those but they are stationary. officials in those cities credit the cameras for a recent drop in crime. the cameras can scan hundreds of license plates every minute, helping police identify stolen cars. civil liberties group oppose the cameras because of privacy concerns. and thick, tule fog is appearing. a study finds thick fog has

declined 46% in the past three decade. that's a problem for crops including almonds, cherries and peaches because tule fog keeps temperatures down during the growing season. the combination of factors may be to blame including globallal warming and a decrease in crop growing. >> you know when you mentioned that earlier, steve was saying that's absolutely right. >> it's interesting. i remember seeing it more often when i first moved out here. hey, sal, highway 24, everybody behaving for you? >> yes, i've been getting kind of tweets about the 280 closure and i got a tweet from a viewer named stacy. 280 northbound, 280 northbound will remain open throughout the memorial day weekend. southbound 280 that's closing and we're gonna keep an eye on it and give you tips and alex is on the story. dave, you mentioned highway 24, yes, 24 pretty normal between

pleasant hill road and the tunnel. about a ten-minute drive. not a major delay. traffic continues to look pretty good as you drive through on the oakland side as well. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a 25-minute drive into san francisco with no major problems. we've also been looking at the rest of the hercules to richmond, traffic is slowing down a little bit. if you are driving on 680 southbound from concord to walnut creek, you have slow traffic from willow pass road down to the walnut creek interchange. let's go to steve. a lot of low clouds in place. a little bit her on the tule fog, they get the thickest in december and january, temperatures are coldest and the nights are longer but you need rain. if you don't get rain in those months, you don't get that fog. that's one of the reasons why, i think a decrease in rain and colder temperatures in the months. we have an active pattern here. a lot is going on. there's plenty going on. a big fog bank out there and a

strong low heading towards san joaquin valley and southern california. 56 san jose. we'll go for a high of 76 degrees in downtown san jose if you are out towards read hill view, probably close to 79. there's been mist/drizzle being reported in numerous locations in part, of the city. also pacifica, half moon bay and el granada. daly city thank you for that. hanford, vie celia. .75 of rain at bridgeport. 50s on the temperatures. everybody is stuck because of the cloud cover. if you have sunshine, there's probably a breeze. fairfield had gusts when i came in this morning 31 miles an hour. 14 now. concord had fusts of 24. 7. oakland gusts to 18. there's still a little breeze. when you get a delta breeze like that, it's tough to get that warm.

we'll see inland temperatures warping up. coastal temperatures i think are stuck in the 50s and 60s. 55 sacramento. had 3 up in tahoe. 55 ukiah. they were 86 yesterday. the system stays to the north. high pressure nosing in. we have to wait for the low to move out which will be tomorrow. once that takes the turn and heads into the four corners, we'll see warmer temperatures. clearing for the coast. temperatures will warm up. sunday looks to be the warmest day. far enough inland, there will be low 90s. memorial day will start off warm but the fog is on its way back. next week is looking cooler. fog, sun, nice. low clouds. morning, drizzle giving way to sunny skies far enough inland. some 80s to maybe mid-80s. 60s and 70s for many here. 79 in walnut creek. 85 brentwood oakley. a 66 alameda. hayward at 70 degrees. 76 to san jose. cruz only 68. low 80s morgan hill and gilroy. 50s, 60s on the coast and in the city. we do have a little bit warmer

7:25. a wildfire in arizona continues to grow this morning. the fire near sedona, more than quadrupled in size yesterday. about 4500 acres have burned. 100 businesses and homes have been evacuated. thousands more people have been told they should be ready to leave if the fire continues to advance. the fire started tuesday afternoon. the exact cause of the fire is not known. but investigators say it was likely started by a person, though not necessarily intentionally. well, this is an incredible story. a woman from san jose being honored for her very courageous

quick action to save the life of an unborn baby. iria wolnick was visiting texas last summer. she was going to her own mother's funeral. when she drove upon a rollover crash. three people, including a woman eight months pregnant, had been thrown out of the car. wolnick said the woman had a big gash in her stomach and she could be part of the unborn baby's arm and head. well, that's when she sprang into action. >> she kept asking me, ma'am, how is my baby? how is my baby? i thought she was referring to her toddler. it was her unborn kid she was referring to. >> ms. wolnick acted very quickly and helped deliver the baby on the side of the road. >> wow. also a truck driver reportedly stopped. he used a shoe case to tie up the umbilical cord. the baby's mother unfortunately died from her injuries. but the toddler and the other adult survived. today, baby emma lynn is alive

and healthy. yesterday, the department of texas public health and safety flew to honor her. police say the n judah hit a man in the city's sunset district yesterday afternoon. investigators say the victim was standing at platform at the station when for some ran he stepped out into the street. the train then hit him causing critical head injuries. the accident disrupted muni service in the area for several hours. taking his chances with a judge. the change in legal strategy for 49ers' star aldon smith, in his weapons and dui case. good morning. we're looking at traffic that's getting busier in the south bay as we look at some of these commutes. but 280 still looks good. we'll lightning at this and the rest -- look at this and the rest of the south bay commute. a lot of low clouds in place. if the temperatures are in the

robbed a store at gunpoint. we've been live at the store. coming up in two minutes, janine de la vega, will tell us the bold move the robber made that's particularly alarming. >> yeah. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about your weather. your traffic. steve has the forecast. >> i do. we do have one system diving into southern california producing some rain out in the valley there. and for us, there is plenty of low clouds and fog to go around. i think an enhancement from the north here. low clouds, a little misty drizzly out there. breezy, cool. not as windy as it was. it was a howling sea breeze. it will be mostly sunny. cool, mild, warm. some locations near the coast might be hard pressed to get above 59. some inland areas will get in the 80s. 53 to start in san francisco. we'll go for a high of 65. the low clouds, plenty in place to go around and made a pretty good push. that low is on the move again.

you can see the rain stretching through the valley heading down towards southern california and giving them rain. 50s on the temperatures. they've been there all morning lock. if you have the sunshine, you might have a breeze. 14 at travis. they had gusts to 31 earlier and gusting to 18 in oakland. there is a sea breeze in place. once we get to southern california, we should see the wind southern southerly. fog, sun, morning drizzle gives way. 70s, 80s inland. 50s, 60s by the water. here's sal. steve, good morning to you. we're looking at a commute that's definitely busier than it was even 20 minutes ago. northbound 280 just from the time that we showed it to you a few moments ago, five minutes ago, the line has grown here out of downtown san jose. and into cupertino. it's one of the busiest freeways, 101 is very slow. we can show you traffic on 101

and 280 with the road sensors growing slower and 85 northbound is also slow as you drive through. so please give yourself extra time as the south bay commute is growing very slow hon most of the major -- on most of the major freeways. as you move to 580 westbound, you can see traffic is busy as you drive through. 580 from grant line road to 680 for example is taking more than 40 minutes from high street to 980, that's 11 minutes. that's kind of a longish ride there. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, it's backed up for a 25 to 30-minute drive time into san francisco unless you are in the carpool lanes. back to the desk. >> sal, thank you. san jose police want your help this morning tracking down an armed robber who stormed no a convenience store filled with customers in broad daylight and all of it was captured on surveillance cameras. ktvu's janine de la vega joining us live now from san jose to show you the video the police hope will lead to an arrest.

>> reporter: good morning. since this robbery happened two weeks ago here at clyde's liquor at 680 and hostetter, more surveillance cameras have been incalled -- installed. this robbery was scary. no one expects to be confronted at gunpoint, especially at 10:30 in the morning. >> everybody back. now. back. [bleep] >> back up. open the register arrest now! >> reporter: the surveillance video shows a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses walk into the store and he yells at everybody to get on the ground. strikes a customer in the face with the gun knocking him to the floor. the cashier tried to hide. the gunman demands she open the register. the robber demands the cash and runs out of the store. the cashier did not want to be identified. >> i hope they can catch people out of there so they don't leave too much fear on people's

lives. >> back up. back up! >> reporter: when the robber left, he got into a silver newer-looking toyota sedan driven by another suspect. one of the cashiers actually chased after him trying to get the license plate but the only description we have, it had a yellow and black rear paper plate. the thief is described as a latino or white man between 25 to 35 years old. he is 5'8", 160 to 190 pounds. police say if you recognize the thief or have any information, call in a tip anonymously. 404-947-stop. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. police in fairfield arrested two men rauked of rob -- accused of robbing are four 7-eleven stores at gunpoint during a one-hour period at gunpoint. police arrested robert dorken. shortly after that, a s.w.a.t. team carried out a search warrant on a home and they

arrested 20-year-old dawa n -- dawan gillum. 7:35. surveillance video of former east bay woman is now part of a campaign video. the video is being used in an online ad. the two are running against each other for a say senate seat. the video is from the san francisco neiman marcus store in 2011. the woman pleaded no contest to misdemeanor grand theft and was sentenced to three years probation. his campaign criticizes -- her campaign criticizes her opponent for using an attack ad. we're learning more about

20-year-old maria garahatey who has a history of mental ills in and drug abuse and violence against her own family. she reportedly had not been taking her medication and had smoking crystal meth and maush. she targeted a girl because she was asian-american. she's being held without bail, charged with attempted murder and a hate crime and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. 49ers' star aldon smith changed his plea in his weapons and dui case. that puts his fate in the hands of a judge. aldon smith was in court in san jose yesterday chamging his plea from not guilty to no contest. that's the legal equivalent to admitting guilt. he faces three felony weapons charges related to a party at

his home in 201. he also faces two charges to last december. the judge may sentence smith up to four years and four months in jail. he's due back in court in july. an outpouring of grief for an 18-year-old student who was supposed to attend her high school prom this weekend. friends and family gathered to remember britney silva hit and killed by a train on monday. she was walking across the train tracks right next to her home. police say she was wearing ear bugs and did not hear or see the train approaching. one classmate spoke for everyone dealing with the loss. >> we're all here because somewhere, somehow, we've all been touched by the kind person she was. >> the family is trying to raise money to pay for britney's funeral. the plan to honor another teenager who honor a teen hit by a train has hit a snag. three teens want to create a park at at a development. they want to name it after

jenna betty. a majority of the people in the area do support the park but the homeowners association denied the request suggesting the students should rename an existing park after betty instead. even if the park is eventually approved, the students still need to raise up to $40,000 fork the project -- for the project. a house committee in congress approved a bill that would end door-to-door male delivery for millions of people. the postal service wants to install community curbside mailboxes. by doing that it would take 90 years to do away with home delivery. the u.s. postal service said it lost almost $2 billion over the first three months of this year. happening today, it's harvey milk day. the former san francisco supervisor is due to receive a national honor, his own postage stamp. brian flores joining us live. he's in the castro district getting reaction to this major honor for the gea rights pie --

gay rights pioneer. >> reporter: this coincides with a larger ceremony that will take place at the white house this morning an unveiling for the stamp that will be released later on the we're live in front of the castro district post office off 18th. some people important to milk's life will be in line to buy the stamp when the post office opens at 9:00. the image of the stamp was taken in 1977 by milk's good friend in front of the castro camera store which was run by milk. also on the stamp are the colors of the gay pride movement on the top left cover. the post office released a statement saying that milk was a visionary leader who gave hope and confidence to the lgbt community throughout the u.s. at a time when there was widespread hostility. >> i think it's a great day that harvey is being recognized and that millions of americans and people around the world will get to see his face now. >> reporter: milk was one of the first openly gay elected officials in the country when

with this technology, pam, this would make the difference between life and death. >> a woman wants to safe dogs and cats. she created an app. workers and volunteers at animal shelters can use the app to take pictures of pets in need of a home and along with some information about the -- along with information about the animal and post it on social media. cynthia said she created the app to save lives. >> i found a stray puppy in my yard. i couldn't keep him. i had three dogs. i had to take him to the shelter. there's probably an average of 300 animals looking for homes from shelters at any one time. >> right now, the humane society in silicon valley is testing out the app. the hope is all shelters, adoption facilities and even people who foster animals will get to use the app. last year, the humane society tells us more than 5,000 cats and dogs were euthanized in zlar county shelters alone.

reporting live in the newsroom, pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:46. snail bait. that's the latest link in the investigation of the recent sunk of dog poisonings and deaths here in the bay area. the spca confirms there have been a dozen cases in alameda, marin, san francisco, contra costa and napa counties. vets say when an ingredient in snail bait is eaten it turns into a nerve toxin in a dog's stomach. there's no medicine for that. the symptoms of the poison, you can see it in as little as 30 minutes. without treatment a dog could die within four hours. we're learning more about the harrowing ordeal of a woman held captive by her mother's boyfriend for ten years and even forced to have his child. she was just 15 years old when she was kidnapped back in 2004. police say her mother's boyfriend, 41-year-old isadora garcia, used fake i.d.s to keep

teachers in san lorenzo are walking the picket line. the teachers are demanding better pay and health benefits in their ongoing contract disspu. they also want more school librarians. the protest began a few minutes ago. we just learned that teachers will head to class after this morning's demonstration. 7:54. more information now about that security breach at ebay. the company says hackers broke into its network three months ago. accessing records of almost 145 million users. those records don't contain financial information like credit card numbers, but it did include e-mail addresses, birthdays, mailing addresses and encrypted passwords. now, security experts say this could be the second biggest security breach in american history. general motors may be close to releasing the results of an internal investigation into a deadly ignition switch problem. a congressional aide says that

some of these other areas. drive time on 880, 238 to fremont is 28 minutes. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. a homicide investigation is underway in oakland after a man was run over by a car. tara moriarty has been live at the scene since 4:30 this morning and joins us now to tell us about the evidence police hope will solve this case. good morning, tara. >> well, good morning. we checked in with a business nearby that has surveillance. the manager doesn't come in until later. we're hoping to look at the video to see if it provides clues as to who hit and killed a man in front of this smog shop. the violence under foaled on webster near the mercedes-benz dealership. two people got into a fight and the suspect got into a car and intentionally ran over the man. police are remaining very tight- lipped about this investigation witnesses have provided police with a description of the

suspect's car. the coroner has not released the name of the victim. he's 50 years old from oakland. we don't know what the argument was about or if the suspect and the victim now each other. but there are surveillance cameras here that might show what happened. we'll try to crack down the video for you later this morning. meantime, if you have any information regarding this case, you are urged to contact the police department. live in oakland, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:04. tensions rising on the streets of salinas after two recent deadly police shootings. last night, there was a violent confrontation between protesters and police in east salinas. one person was shot and wounded where angry demonstrators clashed with police. those protesters claim police used excessive force when they killed two latino men within the last two weeks. it's not clear if last night's gunfire was connected to the protest. but police in salinas believe the shooting was gang-related. san francisco police say something needs to be done to

able to confirm whether the woman's daughter was bullied by this boy and they say it's possible the woman confronted the wrong child. a new morality clause in teachers' contracts is leading to a crisis at catholic schools in the diocese of oakland. today's oakland tribune reports three teachers have quit over the clause. it's in their new contract. a growing number of parents are withholding donations to the more than 50 catholic schools in the diocese. this new clause requires teachers to abide by the teachings of the catholic church both at school and at home. now, critics are concerned teachers could be fired for being gay or having sex outside of marriage or even for using birth control. a tree trimmer will face federal charges for injuring several baby birds in oakland. erat least five young herons

cyclists here are joining others for a very emotional ride of silence. it's an annual event and remembers cyclists killed or badly injured. ktvu news was there last night when a group of riders with a police escort rode through the streets of richmond. >> a lot of motorists maybe don't realize that cyclists have a right to the road. that's one of the intentions of the road road -- of the ride. >> richmond is one of the cities working to make the streets safer for cyclists. it's an incredible story. a san jose woman is being honored for her quick antions that saved the life of an unborn baby. iria wolnick was visiting texas last summer to go to her own mother's funeral when she drove

up on a rollover car crash. three people, including a woman who was eight months pregnant, had been thrown out of the car. wolnick says the woman had a big gash in her stomach and she could see part of the unborn barn's arm and head and she sprang into action. >> she kept asking me how was her baby. i thought she was referring to her toddler. it was her unborn kid she referred to. >> ms. wolnick acted quickly and helped deliver the baby on the side of the road. >> a truck driver stopped and used a shoelace to tie the umbilical cord. the baby's mother died from her injuries. the toddler and other adult involved in the crash survived. and today baby emma lynn is alive and healthy. yesterday, the texas department of public safety flew to san jose to hand wolnick an award for her bravery.

weak system to the north and also the system over us went into the sierra, it's now heading towards bakerfield and also southern california. they could use the bane. they don't -- use the rain. they just don't want the lightning. there's a lot of 50s around. temperatures inland will be slow to warm up. can't do it with this much fog in place and that high. but it's not. cool for some, warm for some. some upper 70s. low 80s mainly inland. 50s, 60s, 70s closer to the water's edge. we're looking at commutes that are still busy in many of the areas. as a matter of fact, i want to show you the traffic is going to be slow on 880 from the coliseum. it's not unusual. it's going to be about a ten- minute drive from this point up to downtown oakland. also looking at the bay bridge, steady and slow commute for about a 25 to 30-minute drive time before you make it into

san francisco. san jose, we continue to see all of the slow traffic on 101. it's one of those things where people are probably used to it and me talking about it, what else is new? it's there. highway 24 from pleasant hill to the caldecott, the drive is up 15 minutes. 238 to san lorenzo to thorpeton fremont, 224 minutes. and grant line to 580/680, 47 minutes. police in san jose want your help to track down an armed robber who stormed into a convenience store filled with customers in broad daylight. all of it was captured on surveillance cameras. ktvu's janine de la vega joining us live from san jose to show you that video that police hope will lead to an arrest. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. this robbery is still on the minds of many employees here at clyde's liquor store. it's near 680 and hostetter. this all happened at 10:30 in the morning. you can see even at this time,

this strip mall, there's a lot of cars here. there's a lot of people around but that didn't matter to the thief. he stormed vie rently in -- violently in, started to yell and the employees here hope he's caught. >> everybody back. now! open the [bleep] register now! now! now! >> reporter: the surveillance video shows a man in a dark- hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses walk into the liquor store with a shot gun. he yells at ve to get on the ground -- at everybody to get on the ground and strikes a customer in the face with his dpun knocking him to the floor -- gun knocking him to the floor. the robber ends up ranking the cash and running out of the store. we spoke to the cashier, who department want to be identified. she said she feared for her life. >> then he yelled at us, open the drawer, get the money out. it's possible if he mad, he mad at me. >> everybody back up. back up! >> reporter: when the robber left, he got into a silver

newer-looking toyota sedan driven by another suspect. one of the cashiers chased after him to get his license plate but the only description we have is it had a yellow and black rear paper plate. the thief is described as latino or a white man between 25 to 35 years old. he's 5'8", around 160 to 190 pounds. if you have any information or recognize the man that you just saw there on that surveillance video, you are asked to call san jose police. you can leave a tip at yar code 408-947-stop -- area code 408- 947-stop. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. police in fairfield arrested two men accused of -- of robbing four 7-eleven stores. police arrested the man on the left during a traffic stop. shortly after that a s.w.a.t. team carried out a search warrant at a house. they arrested 20-year-old dawan

gillam. two guns were recovered at the house. one was reported stolen. investigators found other evidence linking both men to the armed robberies. surveillance video of mary hiashi. day she was arrested for shoplift,ing it's part of a campaign video. her opponent is using the video in and a new online ad. both democrats are running against each other for a state senate seat in the june 3rd primary. the video was from the san francisco neiman marcus store in october 2011. she pleaded no contest to misdemeanor grand theft and was sentenced to three years' probation. her campaign criticizes her opponent for using an attack ad. we're learning more about the woman accused of hitting a 4-year-old girl with a tire iron at a san jose walmart. police say 20-year-old maria has a history of mental

illness, drug abuse and violence against her own family. police also say she was not taking her psychiatric medication at the time of the attack and reportedly had been smoking crystal meth and marijuana. she reportedly targeted the little girl because she was asian-american. she's being held without bail charged with attempted murder and a hate gim and is scheduled -- crime and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. still not clear when a judge in santa clara county will decide when and where a notorious rapist will be released. christopher hubbard is known as the pillowcase rapist. he's been tied to as many as 100 rapes from the bay area to southern california during the 1970s and '80s. yesterday a group calling itself the ladies of lake los angeles drove seven hours from southern california to be at the courthouse in san jose. they are certain hub art will strike -- hubart will strike

again. >> christopher hubart needs to stay in lockup. >> we don't want him out not where we live, not where anybody else is. >> the pillowcase rapist got his name because he puts pillowcases over his -- over his victims' heads muffling their screams. a judge in san jose is deciding his fate because his most recent crimes were here in the bay area. aldon smith has changed his plea in his weapons and dui case putting his fate in the hands of a judge. smith was in court in san jose yesterday changing his plea from not guilty to no contest. and that's the legal equivalent to an add mission of -- admission of guilt. he faces three felony weapons charges related to a party at his home in 2012. he also faces two misdemeanor dui charges from last september. the judge could sense him up to four years and four months behind bars. he's due back in court in july.

happening today -- this is a big day for gay rights supporters as the new postage stamp is set to be released commemorating harvey milk. brian flores is live in the castro district with a review of what the stamp looks like and the smp temperatures -- and the temperatures taking place. >> reporter: we're live in front of the castro district post office. some people are waiting in line and are waiting in line to get their hands on this, this is the official harvey milk stamp which will be released to the public later on when the post office is open later this morning. a little bit of background about the harvey milk stamp itself about the image taken back in 1977 by his good friend, daniel, in front of the castro valley camera store which was run by milk. the store some would consider beginnings of the gay rights movement in san francisco. also on the stamp are the

colors of the gay pride movement on the top left corner. the post office said that he was a visionary leader who gave hope and confidence to the lbgt community throughout the u.s. at a time when there was widespread hostility. people here in the castro are excited about the stamp's release and recognize a lot has changed since he's been in office. >> we knew it would happen and to happen this year, it's just the icing on the cake, really. >> i think it's fantastic. i it's it's long overdue. i -- i think just as a community, it's nice that everybody is embracing it. >> reporter: milk was one of the first openly gay elected officials in the country when he won a seat on the san francisco board of supervisors in 1977. unfortunately, he was assassinated less than a year after he took office. what i want to do is take it back out here live. we're here with james wigdale, spokesperson for the post

of blocks from where angry demonstrators clashed with police. those protesters are claiming police used excessive force and two latino men were killed within the past two weeks. it's not clear get if the gunfire was connected to the protest. caltrans making final preparations right now for tonight's holiday weekend closure of a busy two-mile stretch of interstate 280 in san francisco. southbound 280 will be closed between the king street onramp and the pennsylvania avenue onramp starting at 9:00 tonight. it's not scheduled to reopen until 5:00 tuesday morning. and a homicide investigation is underway in oakland after a man was runed down by a car. ktvu's tara moriarty has been out there at the scene since 4:30 this morning. you are back now. and there's evidence police hope will help solve what happened out there in the crime. tara? >> reporter: that's right. surveillance video that we know that a nearby business has and the manager of that store just

arrived. we're hoping to make a look at that video and see if it provides any clues as to who hit a man with his car on purpose right in front of the smog shop. hopefully, that video will be able to show the make of that car and more details. we know that the violence unfolded on the corner of 29th and webster streets near the mercedes-benz dealership. officers say around 9:30 last night, two people got into a fight, then the suspect got no a car and intentionally ran over the man. police are remaining very tight- lipped about this investigation but witnesses have provided police with the description of the suspect's car. the coroner has not released the name of the victim. he was 50 years old from oakland. we don't know what the argument was about or if the suspect and the victim knew each other but again, there are surveillance cameras here that might show how this all happened. we are trying to track down that video for you and have it for you on our noon news. meantime, anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact

deaths in the bay area. the spca confirms there have been a dozen cases in alameda, marin, san francisco, contra costa and napa counties. vets say when an ingredient in snail bait is eaten, it turns into a nerve toxin in the stomach of a dog, there's no medicine for that. the symptoms of snail bait poisoning can be seen in as little as 30 minutes. without treatment a dog could die within four hours. more information now about that security breach at ebay, the company says hackers broke into its network three months ago accessioning the records of almost 145 million users. those records did not contain financial data such as credit card numbers. but did include e-mail addresses, birth dates, mails addresses and encrypted password. security experts say this could be the second largest security breach in u.s. history. google has surpassed apple
