>> reporter: police are looking for a man they consider armed and dangerous after he threatens people at two busy shopping centers in the south bay. what the first victim did that prompted the suspect to move on. the bay area is heating up for your holiday weekend. i will line up your numbers and which will be the hottest day -- coming up. and livermore police are warning women who jog with headphones in to be alert after a series of gropings near a popular park. what these cases all have in common. gunshots, then a car crash.

the violent chain of events that left a man dead right in front of a hayward fire station. "mornings on 2" starts now. this is livermore where police are warning people to be extra vigilant as they investigate whether an attack on a woman at a park is connected to a series of other attacks. alex savidge have have more on what the woman was wearing and why police say it played a role in her attack. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> good morning, dave -- brian. out of habit. >> good morning, everybody. i'm brian flores in for dave today. let's get the day started with weather and traffic. rosemary, we call her ro, is in for steve today. >> or steve. yeah. degrees warmer than where we were just yesterday. a notable warmup cupping. to the north, a little bit of rain over to oregon and perhaps the northern edge of california picking up a little bit as well. for us, the ridge of high pressure will be building in and our temperatures will be soaring. i think sunday is going to be the hottest day of our three- day weekend. giving you a look here at all of the cloud cover. it's a big gloomy out there. it's cloudy, cool. by 10:00 or so, i think it's peeling back, and where it won't leave is the coast. mostly cloudy, pacifica, half moon bay. santa cruz, partly cloudy, mostly cloudy skies. the white cloud cover is high clouds in the forecast for today. that's going to be about it. temperatures right now in the 50s. 55 in concord. 52, santa rosa. 57 san francisco. stepping out in oakland, you are looking at 56 degrees right now and 56 in san jose. so for the afternoon today, temperatures going above the

seasonal average. by lunchtime, already going to be warm for some. upper 50s and cloudy along the coast. but 70s, even 80 degrees expected for some of our inland locations by our lunch hour and for the afternoon. 88 for antioch. 87 in livermore. 78 in mountain view. 79 in red wrood city. 73 in oakland. to the north bay, 86 in napa. napa yesterday, you were at 76. you are gonna feel the difference here and the warmup will continue all the way into the weekend. it looks like memorial day temperatures will trail off but still warm for most. i will have a look at that forecast coming up. good morning, sal. good morning. we're looking at a nice commute so far. westbound bay bridge. the traffic getting into san francisco is looking good. this is a 10 to 15-minute wait time. go now before something happens onto the upper deck of that bay bridge. san mateo bridge, westbound 92 as you head out to the high rise. that looks good. 11 minutes from the toll plaza

over to the peninsula. remember 280 is closed from king street down to pennsylvania avenue which is essentially the same as cease r chavez -- cesar chavez. northbound 280 remains open. use 101 as an alternate or you can use third street, make a right on cesar chavez and you can get on the freeway that way. back to the desk. police are looking for a man who pulled a gun on people at two different shopping centers in the south bay. it happened in the parking lot at a tasht and subway in morgan -- target and subway in morgan hill. janine de la vega is live with a description of the suspect and how his distinguished haircut could help catch him. >> reporter: the gunman was across the street at another strip mall on cochran road. now, in that case, the victim refused to give up her purse. so then the suspect came here and hit this subway in cochran plaza. surveillance cameras captured images of the suspect.

he's a white man in his 20s with a slim build. he has a mohawk hairstyle and a tattoo on his left wrist. police say at 9:00 last night, he drove up to a woman walking in the target parking lot on cochran road and he pulled out a shot gun. he then demanded her purse, she refused and he drove away. five minutes later, a man matching that description walked in the subway down the street with a shot gun, threatened the employees, robbed the restaurant and left. >> normally it's a safe area. surprising. i work just two blocks from here. shocking to hear something like that. >> reporter: the man was last seen wearing a black punisher t- shirt, green shorts and black and white shoes. his vehicle is described as a white four-door sedan with a black bra on the front grill. it may be a chevy cavalier or dodge knee un. if you recognize this -- neon.

if you recognize the suspect or have any information, call police. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning, san jose police are asking for the public's help finding a missing 74-year-old man. police say guillermo was last seen around 1:00 yesterday afternoon at the dmv in santa clara. police say he's considered to be at risk because he suffers from dementia and may be disoriented. he may be driving a brown chevy colorado truck. anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call san jose police. livermore police have a warning for people who use a popular park trail after another attack on a woman there. alex savidge is live with simple steps police say can make individual less of a target. >> reporter: police are urging women who use headphones, they should be extra cautious. that was the case in a number of incidents that happened

along the popular bike path through robinson park near arroyo road. a man was sneaking up on women and groping them. there have been nine similar cases since 2007. investigators are trying to figure out if the same man was behind all of those crimes. the latest happened at friday, just before 6:00 at night. a woman was listening music as she walked alone. a man came up from behind, wrapped his arms around her and groped her. the man got away. police are trying to figure out if he's connected to other cases. we've reached out to livermore police. we're looking for more information. we'll let you know when we hear back from them with updated information on this investigation. live in livermore, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, alex. thank you. city leaders in oakland are investigating a pay controversy that came to light as a result of the boston marathon

bombings. they want to know why a former oakland police officer is checking $52,000 a year in medical disability from oakland while working as an fbi agent in boston. the unusual case of fbi special agent aaron mcfarland came to the attention of oakland city leaders last week. that's after he was identified as the fbi agent who shot and killed a fee figure in the boston marathon marathon investigation -- boston marathon shooting investigation. the man killed was a close friend of one of the suspects. later, pam cook will have more on this controversial shooting incident as well as the pay controversy. in two hours, the man accused of killing and kidnapping a morgan hill teen is due back in court. the district attorney announced he will seek the death penalty in the sierra lamar case. he's accused of killing the 15- year-old girl who vanished while on her way to school more than two years ago. her body was never found.

prosecutors are confident they have the evidence that will lead to both a conviction and a death sentence. 7:08. a busy two-mile stretch of interstate of 280 is now closed for the entire memorial day weekend. last night, caltrans shut down southbound 280 from the ding street sh -- king street offramp. sal mentioned this. it's not scheduled to reopen until 5:00 tuesday morning. northbound traffic is not affected. the southbound lane closure began right on schedule, started around 9:00 last night. crews are working around the clock on an important earthquake safety project near cesar dhav vez street. the stretch is a favorite route for giants' fans leaving at&t park. tonight, the giants begin a weekend series at home against the minnesota twins. >> definitely had to think about it and figure out an alternative because definitely

today, make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to get your destination. the roads with expected to be packed. new bonfire rules go into effect at san francisco's ocean beach. the national park service has announced a fire curfew of 9:00 p.m., that's an hour earlier than before. the park service plans to install 12 new fire rings at the beach. the bon fires will be banned upon spare-the-air days. the new rules are in response to complaints about disorderly beach parties and fires left unattended. several beaches popular with bay area families have made a list of the most polluted shore lines. cal beach came in flum one on the heal the bay list. cappy toe tau beach made the topian. -- capitola beach made the top ten. most bay area beaches received

high scores for air quality. researchers say the drought actually helped water quality. less storm runoff in san francisco bay and along the coast means less bacteria in the water. the as are the latest into a federal investigation about wages. this is awarding to fairwarning.urg. the labor department is looking into claims that clubhouse and administrative workers as well as interns were paid less the minimum wage and denied overtime. the as are one of four teams being investigated on these claims. the giants, orioles and marlins have been targeted in the investigation. but fairwarning reports that the giants have agreed to pay more than $220,000 in back wages in connection with this investigation. the settlement affected 78

7:15. happening today, the oakland police department is getting ready to host a first-of-its- kind emergency drill. it begins this morning on the campus of oakland high school on macarthur boulevard. you are looking at live pictures. you can see what looks like a fire truck there being set up. police officers, firefighters and other emergency responders will join a number of oakland city leaders. they will practice their response to a real-life emergency, an active shooter on a school campus. the drill will not affect oakland high students because there is no school today. san mateo county's anti- terrorism team is back from an international competition. [ sound of gunfire ] >> they joined counterterrorism groups from 30 other countries in jordan.

san mateo county was the only team from the u.s. team leaders say the competition was a great chance to learn new training methods. a brentwood schoolteacher has stirred up controversy because of the way he dressed for his year book photo. spencer smith stressed like trayvon martin, the florida teen killed by george zimmerman back in 2012. zimmerman was tried for murdering martin but last time he was aquitted in the case. meantime, the reaction to the photos is mixed. >> i think it's okay that, like, he it but not in the -- he did it but not in the year book. >> maybe on facebook but not the year book. >> i think it's a good idea. he's expressing himself. that's the whole point of year book pictures, you are supposed to express yourself. >> ktvu has tried contacting smith for comment but he's been unavailable so far. he just learned about the photo and plans to look into the

[laughter] >> i can't believe i called him the wrong name earlier. >> we've all done the same thing. so brian and tori, the traffic is doing well. i think you will be happy with what you see when i show you 80. the last few days we've had a terrible commute, especially monday. i was looking at a number that said something like 104. now it's 19 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. that's great. people will be happy to see that. i think a lot of people judging by last night, got out of town and they are trying to stretch it out for a four-day weekend. but this afternoon, you will see some slow traffic as well trying to get out of town. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. this is about a five to seven- minute delay at the toll plaza. ten-minute total drive time into san francisco. definitely lighter than usual as you drive into the city and

the traffic looks pretty good. i mentioned that we're gone take a look at the south bay. there's a little bit of slow traffic near mckeon. but the rest of the traffic on the south bay, santa clara valley, that looks good into say row toga -- saratoga, cupertino and sunnyvale. let's go to rosemary. we have a good-looking forecast for the afternoon. at this hour, not so much. plenty of gray. giving you a live look at oakland, ridge of high pressure will be building in for the weekend. we'll start with the warm up this afternoon. we'll be warmer saturday and sunday. it looks like it will be the warmest day with our inland cities reaching into the low 9 eye by sunday. that will be the peak. we'll bring it down a little bit on your memorial day. you can escape the heat if you wish to do so by heading to the coast because the coast is expected to remain mostly cloudy and cool, at least today

into tomorrow. sunday, maybe the best day if you like it sunny. i want to point out the onshore breeze. take a look. 28 miles per hour flew fairfield. we -- through fairfield. we won't use it. as we get into the weekend, it should lighten up some. we won't lose it altogether and that will help to keep the coast cooler while inland we'll be quite warm. 52 degrees right now in santa rosa. 54 in san francisco. mid-50s in concord. a 6 in san jose with the clouds overhead, we have been stuck in the 50s all morning long. as we get into the afternoon, temperatures will remain above the seasonal average from today in through tomorrow, sunday, monday. yesterday we sort of hit the see annal average with napa checking in at 76 yesterday. 86 today. 85 in novato. 83 san rafael. low 70s for sausalito. if you like it warm, warm enough for a pool party this weekend, there you have it. 87 livermore. 88 in brentwood. low 70s along the east bayshore

astronomists say we could get a good look at a meteor shower tonight if the weather cooperates. rosemary says the forecast is mostly clear skies. they say tonight's shower could be bigger than any we've had in the past few years. the peak is expected between 11:00 tonight and 1:00 tomorrow morning. a bit late for me. these meteors come from a comet discovered ten years ago. this is just a touching story from ucsf medical center. a pregnant woman gave birth to a baby boy even though she's in a coma. she suffered a seizure following treatment for a benign brain tumor and has not regained full consciousness. she brought the baby to full term and he was born yesterday

morning. the baby's father said melissa showed encouraging signs as well. she put his hand on her stomach to where the baby was kicking. >> she was able to reach up and touch my face and she puckered for a kiss which was something i've been waiting for months to happen. >> well, we're happy to report the baby boy is a healthy, 5 pounds, 9 ounces. if all goes well, following her recovery, she could move to a specialized treatment facility in marin county. hundreds of firefighters are working to gain control of a hung wildfire that's already burned more than 11 square miles near flagstaff, arizona. no homes have burned but the fire is just three miles from some communities. the fire is burning near slide rock state park, which is a scenic recreation area. firefighters are working to ensure they don't lose

weekend started. rosemary in for steve with warmer temperatures planned for the weekend. >> yes, good morning to you. outside the door right now with cloudy skies. temperatures have not budged a whole lot. we started in the 50s this morning. that's where we remain. 55 in livermore. 55 walnut creek. 57 sfo. 56 in redwood city. all of us in the same boat but by the afternoon that's when the changes will come. with the clouds overhead right now, i think in the next hour we'll begin to watch those peel back away from the inland cities. by 10:00 or so moving away from the bay as well. we have a mix of high clouds in here. but along the coastline, the low clouds, the gray skies are going to remain for most of the day. have to get into santa cruz to have partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies today. we're talking about a big warmup. starts with today. 76 yesterday and today going to 86. mid-60s sphaks. today 70. 79 in concord on thursday. today 86. san jose, you will also warm 5

valley. back to the desk. well, this morning, hayward police are looking for leads in a deadly shooting. it happened yesterday evening in front of a firehouse on west winton avenue. that's where tara moriarty is with more on what police are looking for, how they are finding the killer and what's left behind at the scene. tara? >> reporter: well, hayward police are not saying if this was a rolling gun battle or not. >> you can see the heavy damage and see to the left. there is a small memorial for the person who died. police are really hoping that witnesses will help them crack this case. again, very busy in this street where the firehouse behind me and a jack in the box is across the street. it happened after 5:30 last night. several 911 calls came in. officers found a 22-year-old man had been shot and killed and then a short time later, they learned that a 48-year-old man had been dropped off at a hospital with a gunshot wound. witnesses say that the shooting

was tied to a traffic collision involving an suv and a blue sedan. >> it's in my neighborhood. i'm concerned. there's a lot of police cars. now, the wounded victim is expected to survive. police are still looking for suspects and a motive in this shooting. the other victim's name has not been released. we did contact the coroner's office this morning as well as hayward police who have not returned our phone calls. detectives are urging witnesses to come forward in this case. we're live in hayward, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, thank you. salinas police are getting ready for a tense weekend following two deadly officer- involved shootings in the last two weekends. video shows salinas police confronting a man holding garden shears. carlos mejia appears to be walking away from officers when they open fire. people angry the shootings are

planning another protest this weekend. salinas police are promising a full investigation that will be reviewed by both the fbi and the u.s. justice department. santa clara and orange counties are suing five big drugmakers for what they call a campaign of deception in the use of prescription pain killers. the suit alleges the drugmakers have promoted the use of narcotics without revealing the risks and encouraged their risk for common conditions such as headaches. this is has created the moplation of addicts and -- population of addicts and retriggerred a resurgeons in the use of heroin. a man driving an ice cream truck is accused of selling more than ice cream. he was arrested on wednesday. police say another man told them brown tried to sell him meth when he ordered ice cream. brown was found in a nearby parking lot and arrested. a burglary call in antioch

weekend, the chp and local police respects will be on the -- local police departments will be on the lookout for drunk drivers. dui checkpoints start at 6:00 tonight. many departments are spending extra officers -- are sending out extra officers. the chp says in 2012, 25 people died on highways during the memorial day holiday. more than half were not wearing seat belts and 1300 people were arrested for dui. 7:37. happening today, a memorial and candlelight walk will mark the 20th anniversary of the murder of a castro valley teenager. jenny lin was found dead in her home on may 27th, 1994. her killer has never been found. a $100,000 reward has been offered for information leading to a conviction. the memorial service begins at 6:30 at the castro valley lie prairie. a warning from oakland police about a rash of home-

invasion robberies. police say there have been at least 30 home invasions since the start of the year and five just this month. the most recent robbery happened saturday night in the redwood heights neighborhood. family members say three men wearing ski masks demanded money at gunpoint. >> they had their guns to my back. it was just like really nerve wracking for the longest time. some of the guys that escorted me back he did pop his gun in frustration. the man took iphones, ipads and laptops. the family that was robbed said they may move hout of that neighborhood. prosecutors have asked for more time to decide whether to bring criminal charges against a mother accused of confronting a boy she says bullied her daughter. delia garcia-bratcher was in court yesterday. she's accused of grabbing a 12- year-old boy by the throat at olivet. her attorney said that boy is lying. he says she never touched the

today researchers hope to examine the remains of a young humpback whale that washed on the beach of half moon bay. the whale was found wednesday afternoon in shallow water in pillar point harbor. researchers say the whale appears to be 2, 3 years old. the whale has gone out with the tide and is now floating offshore. a former oakland police officer is now in the middle of a pay controversy that is certain to make a lot of people angry. ktvu's pam cook is in our newsroom with the story and how this is connected to the boston marathon bombings. good morning. >> it's very interesting. it's a story that will unfold. former oakland police aaron mcfarland has been connecting

$52,000 a year since 2004 when he retired for medical reasons. he was just 31 at the time when he left the force and has since passed the tough physical requirements to become an fbi agents in boston. this controversy case came to light after an interbation in orlando, florida. that's when mcfarland was identified as the fbi agent who shot and killed a friend of the suspected boston marathon bomber. now, mcfarland was asked to testify in the oakland riders trial of police corruption but exercised his fifth amendment right against self- incrimination. investigators want to know why a former oakland police officer is connecting $-- collecting $52,000 a year in medical from oakland while working as an fbi agent in boston. the president of the oakland city council has expressed her frustration in this case and says her office is investigating. we do have calls into her office this morning. we hope to have her comment for our next hour of "mornings on 2." reporting live in the newsroom,

all of the cars, especially when the carpool lane doesn't have any metering lights at all usually, chp tmc, i walked to the officer, the people who run the lights are say they are experiencing a software issue and they are trying to fix it. i'll assuming that control, alt, delete won't work on this one. we're trying to figure out when it will be resolved. on the brick, the traffic looks good -- bridge, the traffic looks good. you can add to that, traffic is getting busier in the 8:00 hour. this is combining for a 25- minute drive time as you get onto the bay bridge. we'll keep following this for you. now, let's move to the livermore valley. at some of the other east bay commutes which have been light. 580 looks good. this is the first time it's looked good. drive times are way down if you are driving on 580 from the altamont pass to the 680/80 interchange. back to the desk.

>> thank you, sal. this morning, police in morgan hill are searching for a man who pulled a gun at two different shopping centers. one incident happened outside a target last night. the other at a subway. janine de la vega joins us live to let us know how customers are reacting. >> reporter: i spoke with a man picking up a sandwich at this sand subway. he was take -- picking up a sandwich. he was shaken up because his wife works at the target. people consider this area safe. take a good look at the picture of the suspect. white man in his 20s, with a slim build. a mohawk hairstyle and a tattoo on his left wrist. police say at 9:00, he drove up to the woman in the target parking lot and pulled out a shot gun. he demanded her purse. she refused.

-- his first court appearance since the district attorney announced he will seek the death penalty in this case. he's accused of kidnapping and killing the girl on her way to school more than two years ago. prosecutors are confident they have the evidence that will lead to a conviction and a death sentence even though her body has not been found. a warning for women in livermore after the ninth report of a jogger being attacked. alex savidge has more. >> reporter: well, brian, good morning doing you. police say woman walking or running with their earphones in are leaving themselves vulnerable. here in livermore, a number of women have been growned by a man who snuck up on them while they were listening to music in their headphones and some of those assaults are happening along the popular path along robinson park. this is near arroyo road. there have been nine cases

since 2007. investigators are trying to figure out if it's the same man behind the crimes. the latest assault last friday. in that case, a woman was listening to music as she walked alone. then whes a man walked up from behind, groped her. the victim was able to break free and get away. woman out walking this area say they will be more cautious. >> it's just a constant looking around to know what's coming up behind you because you never know. it's quiet out here. you don't always here the footsteps coming up behind you. you just have to be aware and looking. >> that woman told me she never wears headphones when she walks along the trail. police have only a vague description of the man behind the assaults. they are trying to figure out if he's the same person in all of these groping cases, again, since 2007 is how far they go

looking for her. she was told he was her only ally. >> the now-25-year-old woman, garcia says made up the whole story because the comum is breaking up. a busy stretch of 280 in san francisco is now closed for the entire memorial day holiday. last night caltrans shut down 280 from the king street to just before cesar chavez street. it's not scheduled to reopen until 5:00 tuesday morning. northbound traffic is not affected. crews are working around the clock near cesar chavez street. this stretch of 280 is a favorite route for giants' fans leaving at&t park. tonight the giants begin a series at home against the twins. >> i definitely had to think about it and figure out an alternative. definitely don't want to head in that direction and get stuck and realize i want get into the highway.

morning. welcome back to "mornings on 2." 8:29. we're following developing traffic news right now. there is a software issue with the metering lights at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's creating big delays, not just at the toll plaza but also on the bridge. ktvu's sal castanedo is tracking the problem and in 90 seconds, he will show you a side by side comparison of how long a traffic jam this is creating. i'm brian flores in for dave clark. let's get a quick look at weather and traffic. rosemary has the forecast. we're expecting warmer temperatures this weekend. >> yes. good morning to you. we are going to see a nice warmup. let me turn on that computer there. it's giving me a little bit of trouble as we get into your weekend, temperatures will be soaring. today a few degrees warmer than yesterday. as we get into saturday we're gonna nudge the numbers a little bit up. as we get into sunday, this looks to be the warmest day of the weekend when our areas, at least our inland areas are expected to hit the low 90s.

the winds right now still onshore. we'll actually continue onshore through the weekend. as we get through fairfield, it's gusting to 28 miles an hour. a little robust but not as strong or widespread. that onshore breeze will continue to bring us the cooler weather along the coastline. but our inland cities starting with today, a notable jump. napa, 76 yesterday, 86 in afternoon. 65 in san francisco yesterday. today, you will go to 70. concord upper 70s on thursday. a nice warm jum -- warmup. i will lineup your numbers coming up. here's sal. we have a software issue with the metering lights at the bay bridge. what happened was they started to malfunction earlier this morning at about 6:30 or so. i want to show you a before-and- after picture. this is the first thing 245 we noticed -- this is the first thing we noticed, the carpool lane normally doesn't have any cars in it because they are not

metered. later in the morning, we saw a backup here and -- something doesn't look right about this. and then we called over there, sure enough there was a metering light issue. it's all of the lights. let's take a look at the live picture of the bay bridge toll plaza. what happened was the metering lights were not working. and now there is a big backup. now they have to have the metering lights on to get traffic into the city efficiently. on a day when things are supposed to go so well, now we have a 25-minute delay getting into san francisco. i'm sorry about that. just -- these things happen. let's take a lack at san francisco -- look at san francisco itself. southbound 280 is closed from king street downtown. all of the ramps to pennsylvania avenue. use 101 as an alternate route. 101 will be taking more traffic. there is a giants' gail for the next -- game for the next four days there. that will put more traffic on third street trying to get to 238 on cesar chavez.

public transit is the best way. back to the desk. this morning, hayward police are looking for leads in a deadly shooting. it happened yesterday evening in front of a hirehouse on -- firehouse on west winton avenue. tara moriarty is live there with more details that she's learned about the violence that unfolded. >> reporter: good morning. as we were able to speak to firefighters. they tell us that the man fatality shot was in an suv headed in this direction and he actually smashed into a sedan right there in the middle of that intersection where you can see all of the glass and crashed into the fence. there is a small memorial here along the side of the road. the firehouse is right behind me. a jack in the box across the street. it's a busy intersection and detectives are hoping witnesses will help them crack this case. this happened at 5:30 when several 911 calls came in.

officers found a 22-year-old man who had been shot and killed and then a short time later, learned that a 48-year- old man had been dropped off at a hospital with a gunshot wound. right in front of me was the car, the suv,ed the body on the ground covered. they watched the crime scene, crime scene investigators come in and take pictures. >> reporter: the 48-year-old is expected to survive. police are still looking for suspects and a motive in this shooting. the other victim's name has not been released. detectives are urging witnesses to come forward. we're live in hayward. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:34. salinas police are gating ready for a -- getting ready for a tense weekend following two deadly officer-involved shootings in the past two weeks. surveillance video of the latest shooting shows salinas police confronting a map holding garden -- man holding

garden shears. he appears to be walking away from officers when they opened fire. people angry about the shootings are planning another protest this weekend. salinas police are promising a full investigation that will be reviewed by both the fbi and the u.s. justice department. happening today, a memorial and candlelight walk will mark the anniversary of jenny linn. she was found dead in her hole on may 27th, 1994. her killer has never been found. a $100,000 reward has been offered for information leading to a conviction. the service is at 6:30 tonight at the castro valley library on norbridge avenue. police are asking for the public's help looking for the man who purposely ran over a man and left him to day. a video shows a silver car speeding away from the scene on webster street just before 9:30 at night. police say the suspect and victim got into a fight shortly

before the victim was shot. the -- or hit, rather. the identity of the victim has not been released but we do know he was 50 years old. a former oakland plif with a connection -- police officer with a connection to the boston marathon bombings is in the middle of a pay controversy. pam cook is in the newsroom with new information about the officer's troubled history with the force. good morning pam. >> good morning. former oakland police officer aaron mcfarland has a long list of investigations against hill. he's collecting disability. he somehow got into the fbi. he was just 31 in 2004 when he retired from the oakland police force for medical reasons. he's been since collecting $52,000 a year. he was also zd to testify in -- asked to testify in the oakland riders trial of police corruption but exercised his fifth amendment right. the boston global reports he is the subject of two police brutality cases and four internal affairs investigations.

the reason the boston globe is following the case is because his controversial case came to light after an interrogation in orlando, florida. that's when macfarland was identified as the fbi agent who shot and killed a friend of the suspected boston marathon bomber. that incident caught the attention of the oakland police department. so far, the fbi has declined to comment about mcfarland and the pension he's receiving from oakland. but tells the globe that mcfarland is a hero whose quick thinking in the boston marathon incident may have saved the life of a trooper. we have calls in and we'll be following this story and bringing you updates throughout the day. pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. police say there have been at least 30 home-invasion robberies since the start of the year and five just this month. the most recent robbery

welcome back to "mornings on 2." 8:44. let's get you updated on some of the top stories we're following right now. right now, it's a long morning commute on the bay bridge for thousands of drivers heading from oakland into san francisco. a metering light problem is causing big delays especially for drivers in the carpool lane. the problem started about two hours ago. sal will tell us what's happening on the bridge right now in just about three minutes. this morning livermore police are warning people to be extra vigilant after a man grabbed and groped a woman on a trail. investigators are looking into whether this attack is connected to a series of similar attacks in the area and say in each case, the women

were wearing headphones and did not here the attacker approaching. police are looking for a man they considered armed and dangerous after he pulled a gun out at two busy shopping centers. janine de la vega joins us live from morgan hill where she's been talking to people about this crime. janine, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, brian. it was a pretty bold and brazen act. the pan pulled out a gun in a busy shopping center down the street. the woman there got away but then the suspect came here and hit this subway in cochran plaza. surveillance cameras captured images of the suspect. he's a white nan his 20s with a slim build. he has a mohawk hairstyle and a tattoo on his wrist. he drove up to a woman walking in the target parking lot on cochran road and pulled out a shot gun. he demanded her purse. she refused and she drove away. and then a man watching the description walked into a subway with a shot gun.

he threatened the employees, robbed the restaurant and left. we spoke to a customer who has a wife who works at the target shopping center he plans to tell her to change his behavior. >> try to have her park close to the door. she already knows now -- i don't like that, especially when she has to go to work at like 5:30 in the morning. sometimes it's still dark. >> reporter: the man was last seen wearing a black punisher t- shirt, green shorts and black and white views. his vehicle, a white four-door sedan with a black bra on the front grill. it may be a chevy cavalier or a dodge knee on -- neon. if you recognize the suspect or have information, call morgan hill police, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. aaa is expecting a record number of people in california to hit the road or the skies this memorial day weekend. nearly 4.3 million californians

time now is 8:47. let's go to sal, keeping an eye on traffic. especially the toll plaza this morning. is it getting better? >> not really, although they know of the problem. but this problem has been going on for a bit. the metering light software issue, the lights were not working properly. if you notice, the carpool lanes here are affected because the carpool lanes never have anyone stopping in them. but this morning those carpool lanes are also being metered. that's certainly not normal. >> let's take a look at the bridge itself. you can see traffic up on the span is going to be slow and again this is because at one point, the metering lights just allowed toom cars on the span -- too many cars on the span and it got too crowded. if you are driving in san francisco, you've heard it. we've been telling you, third street and 101 are alternates to 280 southbound between king and the pennsylvania avenue

onramp. so teen these two points southbound 280 is closed. northbound 280 remains opened. let's go to roets mary -- rosemary. a warming trend for your holiday weekend. tracking a little bit of clearing over parts of the east bay. this is the best area this morning to see any blue sky. most of us dealing with overcast gloomy, gloomy sky. take a look at what's going on. north bay into the south bay, have to get into the east bay to see some of this sunshine. it will clear away. we'll be left with partly cloudy, mostly cloudy skies away from the coastline. but areas like concord, antioch, discovery bay, enjoying the sunshine this morning. temperatures are slowly climbing with the overcast conditions. we've been stuck in the 50s all morning long. still tracking this system here that we've been tracking for several days now, even brought that possibility of thunderstorms to our area earlier in the week. brought us a little bit of rain, especially to our north bay hills, our east bay hills

over the santa cruz mountains. also tracking a system here moving through the pacific northwest. this is bringing rain over areas like oregon. for us, it's a ridge of high pressure that will be building in for our weekend. that is what will drive the temperatures up. right about here right now. it's going to climb. as we get into saturday and sunday, it will be over the bay area. we won't lose the onshore breeze altogether. that means the coast will be a little bit cool, cloudy at times. i think the coast will be mostly cloudy. most of us away from the coast will be warmer by several degrees for our inland cities. saturday even warmer. sunday looks to be the warmest day and then for your memorial day, monday, temperatures coming back down a little bit. but we'll remain above average. take a look at the highs for today. 86 santa rosa, 85 sonoma. 85 for novato. 83 for san rafael. inland cities, the numbers are 5, 10 degrees above. running warm. 86 walnut creek. 87 livermore.
