. good morning, everyone. welcome to mornings on 2, it's saturday may 24th i'm i'm mike me back. >> and i'm in for claudine wong. let's go to rosemary. let's go to the bay. it's gorgeous there. stretching across the bay is the marine layer. it has shrunk, we're dealing with more sunshine this morning, we're enjoying more sunshine this morning. areas are warmer. everywhere is two to four degrees warner. antioch 68 degrees. that could be running a little warm on that temperature there. we've got warmer air filling into the bay area. 52 half moon bear bay, still cloudy across the coastline. still inside the bay, inland cities are waking up with a lot more sunshine than what we've

seen in the last couple of days. as we get to the morning hours we'll see mostly sunshine for the afternoon. temperatures are going to go up for the second half. notice the 90s stay closer to the central valley. the temperatures will be a few degrees above yesterday's high. 77 for oakland, 73 in san francisco, hayward, a comfortable day. it ghettosy in antioch, santa rosa and it will be breezy and cool by the coast. temperatures will continue to climb tomorrow. we'll see more sunshine along the coast. this trend will be continue for tomorrow and a tad cooler for your memorial day. i'll line that for you coming up. uc santa barbra.

seven dead and seven wounded after a gunman is in the streets of the isla vista neighborhood. >> reporter: bill brown is calling the mass shooting a work of a man made. they say this time the threat appears to be over and the suspect is dead. the shooting started shortly before 9:30 last night near the uc santa barbra campus. the suspect cruised around in a black bmw firing a semi- automatic handgun. several are hospitalized following that attack. it's not clear if the suspect shot himself or whether he was shot by one of the responding deputies. they have confirmed this morning they're looking at tying roger to the deadly

shooting. >> we're analyzing both written and videotaped evidence that suggests that this atrocity was a premeditated mass murder. >> we have located several rambling videos from roger posted online. in them he says he plans on killing women and girls because they have rejected him romantically. he said the last 8 years of his life were miserable because of rejection and loneliness and unfulfilled desires because women were not attracted to him. we've opted not to play the videos so we don't glorify the convenience of the shooting. we'll continue to update you live in the morning. live in the newsroom ktvu news. a major traffic alert for drivers on highway 101 after a produce truck spilled fruit all over the freeway. this was at the ramp, a driver

was air lifted to the hospital. the fruit has to be cleared from the roadway before the ramp can be reopened. >> before we arrived, the driver was trapped in the vehicle and we extricated air lifted him. >> we'll continue to follow this story throughout the morning and let you know when that ramp reopens. >> a car crashed into a home in oakland. it happened at 10:20 last night. three people were shot. officers found one of the victims on the ground at the scene. two more victims went to the hospital on their own. witnesses say there was some type of shootout and police say there were at least 20 shell cases found on the ground. they were still investigating what prompted the gun foyer. one person was killed and another person hurt in san lee and dough. it happened last night after a -- in san leandro.

it happened last night after they were in a bar and one woman was found at the scene. and another person was indicted and could face multiple charges. >> a man missed me and slammed into the building, he was going 100 miles per hour. >> they're trying to determine if the woman who died was the driver or passenger in that vehicle. a statewide amber alert has been issued for a missing boy from los angeles. this two-year-old was kidnapped yesterday morning. the father is suspected of taking him. the child's mother has a restraining order against him. she was putting her son in the car when he pushed her aside and drove off with the boy. the car was abandoned in east l.a. a death of a two-year-old boy is beings called suspicious. it's not clear what caused his death a neighbor told us the

boy wasn't breathing when his mother found him. an autopsy will be done to determine how he died. >> i heard everyone screaming and yelling, my baby, my baby, and then a couple of neighbors were all over there, and they were saying to call 911. >> four people from the home were taken into custody. they're seeing if the boy's death was related to suspected drug use. a crackdown got under way at 6:00 last night. dui checkpoints are being set up across the bay area for the entire weekend. they've already arrested several people on suspicion of dui. back in 2012, 25 people died during the memorial day weekend holiday, half of those who died were not wearing seatbelts.

patrols are stepping up their river patrols for the weekend. they have targeted the most popular beaches, including a small island between del rio and camp rose beaches. 750 scouts are expected to take part in a ceremony at the san francisco national cemetery. they'll be placing american flags on the graves of veterans there. it's the 30th year the boy scouts have taken part in the memorial day remembrance. work somebody continuing on southbound interstate 280 where caltrans is replacing a hinge that helps the road withstand earthquakes. a two mile stretch is closed for construction on king and chavez streets. they were helping drivers who didn't know about the detour. it's a favorite route for giants fans and there's a game tonight. they've been urging fans to

take public transit instead. bart stations will be entering the digital age adding tvs to station despite complaints from riders. after testing the screens this spring, they've allowed 18 new screens at certain stations, they expect the new screens will bring in $1 million a year. they'll have video, but no signs. many are worried that the signs will be distracting. a boy is celebrating an accomplishment that not many have achieved. the teenager is the youngest to graduate college in oakland. this 14-year-old graduated last night. he has his sights set on becoming a pediatric

. a massive thunderstorm lit up the night skies in new york city, the bolt of lightning struck the world trade center. it created hail and flash flooding and created a traffic jam at the height of rush hour. kennedy and newark airports and la guardia airport was delayed in flights. a fire near sedona, it's 5%

what a beautiful sight. we have a the marine level which has shrunk. i have a time lapse which is 24 hours. yesterday morning into this morning, you can see for yourself how the ridge of high pressure over the pacific becomes a little more defined. this is friday, there it is, it's taking that arch and it's moving up. for the next couple of days this will be the control of the weather pattern and we'll see temperatures rise for the daytime rise. meanwhile the onshore breeze is not going together. after the sea breeze we'll keep it breezy and cool at the coast. tomorrow is likely to be a better day. if you're going to the beach, they're reporting 24 miles per hour on that gust. hayward reporting 23 and coming to the west. the on shore breeze will be with us for the weekend. i want to go south of the border. look what's spinning here off

the coast. the first named storm the season is tropical storm amanda. this is moving west northwest at 5 miles per hour and it looks like it could strengthen over the course of the weekend. i thought that was interesting. we've got temperatures in the 50s, 54 santa rosa and 55 in concord and these places are warmer by a few degrees. it's going to feel better if you go out this morning because there's lots of sunshine. 82 in napa, upper 70s for san raphael and 485 for walnut creek and livermore. antioch, perfect day for a pool party. low 70s along the coast. it's comfortable to be outdoors. i know the carnival festival is going on this week in fan.

major depression disorder. she'll be moved to rehab center where she'll be on probation for two years. she has tried to board flights to hawaii three times. she has been given counts of a misdemeanor fortress passing. she tried to board planes in texas. officials say the air traffic controller who was going through training directed the pilots of two united airlines flights tofully towards each other. the planes were less than a mile apart when the air traffic controller realized the mistake and averted the collision. 150 years were on the plane and no one was hurt. >> i didn't have any idea what was going on until the tower. >> i guess they put together for a left turn. >> the faa is investigating the

temperatures are warming, 69 in antioch, 66 for pittsburg right now. for many of us it's a warmer start to the day. 59 walnut creek, 53 for castro valley. let's compare numbers to yesterday. we're 10 degrees warmer than we were friday afternoon. you'll go to 81 in san francisco. it's going to 70 degrees for san francisco, that's a 7- degree bump there. today is not going to be the warmest day. it looks like tomorrow will be the warmest day of the weekend. 86 in concord for today. 73 in oakland, 70 san francisco, a lot of these i just mentioned, but look widespread upper 70s and 80s in the south bay and 85 for morgan hill. we'll take a bigger tour and i'll detail the rest of your holiday weekend coming up.

developing news near u.s. c santa barbra. a gunman storms through the streets of the isla vista neighborhood. christian is live with the latest. >> this shooting happened at 9:30 last night. at a news conference we got new details about the shooting and they confirm the suspect is dead. it began at the isla vista. the man crewed around in a bmw that was black. they heard the shoot hang were able to respond within minutes. in all 7 people were killed including the suspect, seven others are hospitalized following that attack. investigators say at this time it's not clear if the suspect shot himself or whether he was shot by the responding

deputies. >> we've identified nine separate crime scenes within the area and multiple victims who were either shot or injured as a result of -- apparently as a result of a suspect's actions. >> investigators confirmed that they're looking at written and video evidence tying elliott roger to the deadly shootings. we've looked at rambling videos, life is so unfair because girls don't want me and why don't girls want me. he was tortured by men who had girlfriends, he was all alone. he said his last 8 years were miserable because of rejections and unfulfilled desires because women were not attracted to him. we don't want to glorify the events around this shooting.

this investigation is still developing and we'll continue to update you throughout the morning. we're learning more this morning about the condition of an 8-year-old girl who was shot earlier this month while playing in the front yard of her home in east oakland. the mother says her daughter is in critical condition and she's paralyzed from the neck down. she's a single mom raising her and her nephew and a brother on her hand. >> she'll have some mobility, and the use of her hands going forward, but it's going to be a long process. >> an former oakland police officer is working as a f.b.i. agent in office collecting tens of thousands of dollars in disability from the city of

oakland. technically he's not breaking any laws. >> he gets $52,000 collecting disability checks from the city and he gets to be paids a a f.b.i. agent from boston. he passed a f.b.i. fitness test four years later. >> i was surprised that he would be allowed to continue at the capacity of law enforcement especially the f.b.i. >> he said it's not right that he's double dipping even though he's doing it on a loophole. >> it's wrong. >> a high number of police officers are retiring on disability. he feels mcfarland's case is a window into a bigger problem for the city. >> they should be looking at these disabilities and more importantly once it does happen to track them to see whether or not the conditions that caused the permanent disability still exists. >> he was involved in a shooting as a f.b.i. agent last year killing a

friend of one of the boston bombing suspects during an interrogation of florida. he was the focus of four internal investigations and police brutality lawsuits. >> he might have been well thought of amongst the officers others like myself had concerns about his policing. >> they'll investigate whether his job as a f.b.i. job is any different than the one he did in oakland. regardless he needs to stop cashing in. >> it's a misstatement and misuse of funds. at the end of the day i'm paying for that pension retirement as a resident and i think that needs to be corrected or needs to stop. >> i asked the agency that pays officers if they would consider language, for finding a change in the incident and they said that's something lawmakers

for the public's help to find the person who shot and killed a 22-year-old man. the victim was driving a suv. the shooting caused the victim to crash. a second shooting victim turned up at a nearby hospital and is expected to survive. he heard the whole thing. >> at first i didn't think it was gunfire, it's like back firing, but the people on the outside say it was gunfire, then i realized that's when i came down. >> police have not released the man who was killed. the summer driving season between memorial day and labor day is considered the deadliest time of the year for drivers. the teen safe driving coalition, teens died across the state. teens have the lowest rate of

seatbelt use. they encourage parents to drive with their teens at least 30 minutes a week to instill good driving habits. the us products safety commission estimates that 300 children under 5 drown each year. there were 3 incidents in the bay area this month. last week a 3-year-old drowned in antioch, another two-year- old drowned and another one nearly drowned in concord in a pool. the coast guard says 560 people died in boating accidents. boaters should wear life jackets, stay sober while driving and do not speed. every boat should have an emergency kit, that includes a flashlight cellphone and radio. there's a movable traffic barrier on the golden gate bridge. they awarded installation contracts for the 30 million

project. they changed the installation dates from october to the middle of next january. the bridge will need to be shut down for two days for the barrier to be installed. the giant metal sculptures at the field are on their way out. the massive sculptures are part of the art in the park installations sponsored by the museum of modern art. they're interfered with the views of the golden gate bridge. removal is expected to start on tuesday. they say the city isn't doing enough to conserve water amid drought restrictions. they contacted ktvu after it flooded, it sent water down the street for an hour. it angered homeowners if they don't cut their usage by 25% next year. >> they were watering and there was a big flood of water.

seal pup. oh, does she have quite the tale to tell. >> beamer crews was a harbor seal on the beach. >> a family picked up the seal pup off the beach and put the pup into an rv and drove off. >> i have no idea what was in the minds of these individuals, i have to believe they were well intentioned, but i don't know what their plan was. >> two of the volunteers got wind of the seal pup snatching, and they found inside the laundry basket was little beamer crews. >> i found the folks and let them know that the harbor seal it would have been best left on the beach. >> now, separated from her mom, she was transported to the center in sausalito. >> officials if you are trying to help the animal it's illegal

small businesses and force some to close. a movable traffic barrier on the golden gate bridge, the chronicle reporting that installation contracts for the $30 million project, changing the dates from october to the middle of next january. the bridge will be shut down for two days for the barrier to be installed. it will be the first time it will be closed for construction. the giant scriptures are on their way out, part of the yearlong art in the park installation sponsored by the museum of modern art. some people complained it interfered with the views of the bridge. removal is set to start tuesday. the driving season is considered the deadliest time of the year for teen drivers. according to the driving coalition, last year more than
