bathroom and attacked with the hammer. ktvu jana talks with us now, she joins us live now in oakland with more on what happened. >> reporter: when the district talked t they said this is a shock to the students and the staff. the girl was outside playing in the area when a parent lured her inside to a bathroom. that's where they say the attack happened about 10:40 this morning. the parent assaulted the girl with a hammer. officials say the staff knew thd attacker, she's identified as diome and she's a parent well known at the camps and they say she's a frequent volunteer at the school. >> two staff members did koim ce come to the bathroom and confronted the

parent. >> the staff had the girl taken to the hospital. it appeared that the parent knew the girl's family but it was not clear what the motive of attack may have been. the girl is in the hospital right now. they say she's expected to recover her injurie. we have been speaking with parents as well with the district officials and we hope to get more information about this attack here at the elementary school for the 10:00 news tonight, reporting live, ktvu channel 2 news. three students were expelled earlier this month for harassing a black roommate. the protocol has been formed now to report hate crimes and deal with them when they're reported.
