22 gusting to 31. again that is not wide spread. concord is west, napa is west. it was the case but much less what we are seeing today. and that fog getting helped along by an upper level low. that might enhance a little drizzle as well. cooler for most. more 80s there. there will be a few 90s. everyone else 50s and 60s and 70s and 80s. here is sal. steve, good morning. right now on this friday. we are looking at a commute that looks pretty good so far. there is a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. but it's about a 15 minute drive time into san francisco. if we are lucky, it will just stay this way and not get any worse this morning on this friday we are still doing okay. this is a look at interstate 880 and the traffic here in oakland is moving along very

nicely. livermore valley it's a little better. a little slow leaving it on the way to dublin. if you are driving the hayward and castro valley it looks good. so far if you are a santa clara valley commuter, that commute still looks good. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you. we begin with developing news from hayward. we first reported one hour ago. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that killed a woman early this morning. ktvu janine de la vega tells us firefighters managed to rescue two others in the burning home. janine, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i just spoke to the son of the woman who escaped this fire. he was very shaken up. too dig trot to speak on camera. firefighters found her in one of the bedrooms. she was trapped there. they brought her outside but they couldn't resuscitate her. when the fire broke out at 1:00 a.m. here on townsend avenue, the flames and smoke were coming

out of the front door and the front window. it took firefighters ten minutes to knock it down. they city they spoke to the husband and wife who were able to escape. they were originally sleeping and they woke up to the smell of the smoke and flames in a front bedroom. now they grabbed a fire extinguisher to put it out but it didn't work. they escaped but the elderly aunt who was left inside she was wheelchair bound. she was trapped in her bed. firefighters were able to rescue here and she died. >> it's hard. it's tough. that's what we get paid to do. when we get a chance to do it, you want to have a good outcome. when it doesn't happen and it is you know it is heartbreaking. >> we are being told by firefighters that two parrots and at least one cat died when i spoke to the relative earlier he said that there was many

more animals in there. so we could find out about more a little bit later. the husband that escaped the fire, he's at the hospital because he was complaining of smoke inhalation. his wife is at a neighbor's house. she is being helped by the red cross. as far as the cause goes, firefighters are leaning toward electrical because there was many cords in one of the rooms where the fire broke out. plugged into an outlet. again they are still investigating. they are waiting for the foam to die down inside the house before they can actually see the details of exactly where the fire spread. coming up in the next half hour, you will hear from a neighbor who knew the victim who died. reporting live from hayward janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. this morning we are continuing to follow a story we reported on the 10:00 news last night about a break in with potential links to the criminal

case against leland yee and raymond chow. a man lurking around the place later bashes through a window. the shop has since been boarded up. now chow's attorney claims that on the day of the break n the shop was handling materials related to the high profile federal case and worries that some evidence may have been compromised. chow and leland yee were among a group of people indicted in march. the group faces charges ranging from murder to hire to gun smuggling. yee is accused of corruption while chow faces money laundering charges. chow who is still in jail will ask a judge next wednesday to grant him bail. alex savidge is digging deeper into this story. a man accused of trying to build a bomb in san francisco is due in court today. ryan chamberlain was arrested

on monday. a judge hat granted a defense request for chamberlain. fbi agents scythian covered bomb making materials next wednesday. the materials include a model rocket image, powdery substance, ball bearings, and a circuit board. one arrested for murder and another man remains on the loose. this is a picture of david galvez. he is considered armed and dangerous. police yesterday arrested the other suspect. he is accused of killing his wife back in april. galvez took part in the murder. happening today fighting back against teens terrorizing and attacking bart riders at several east bay stations. christina randone is live in san leandro. >> reporter: i just spoke with the san leandro police lieutenant who hopes to have a number of agencies at tonight's

immediating. violence has been happening at part stations like this one and others across the east bay. police are describing these attacks as wildly. a pack of 100 teenagers terrorized people. chasing them to the bay area mall parking lot. san leandro police say the incident started in may and since then they have been happening on a weekly basis with the violence progressively getting worse. some victims have been hit with guns and knocked unconscious. and then they hop on bart to get away. most recently hayward police notified them about the teens. >> our officers were on site. they did make one arrest of a teenager for a minor offense. >> reporter: and tonight's meet willing be the first for -- will be the first for this task

force. some of the agencies that are expected to be there are at alameda county sheriffs department. agencies from oakland, hayward, and bart police. they hope to have more bart police agencies there. live in san leandro christina rendon. muni service back on track. muni informed its riders that all 600 of the vehicles are running on schedule. people riding buses, trains, and cable cars can expect a smooth ride. muni operators staged a three- day sickout in a contract dispute this week and muni management and union leaders will meet with an arbitrator tomorrow to try to settle that dispute. there is a different type of transit trouble for bus riders in the east bay. ac transit installed new fair boxes in gainaging its riders

high-tech ways to travel. >> it's very slow. anything that is not a stiff dollar bill will get pushed back to the passenger. >> i can see that with the fair boxes. it was hard to get some of the dollars into the machines. something we definitely need to work on. >> critics plan to bring their complaints to next week's ac transit board meeting. among other things they will ask the board to keep paper bus transfers. at least until now. a missing dog with a very special connection to his oncer back home this morning. arthur renne west skip has been reunited with his dog. >> i will never let her go. i'm getting a microchip, a

up on leads. a u.s. military hospital in germany says sergeant bowe bergdahl is showing signs of improvement following his release after nearly five years in afghanistan. a pentagon spokesman says bergdahl is talking with medical staff and becoming more involved in a treatment plan designed to ease his return into the united states. no date set for bergdahl to make his first phone call to his family in idaho. president obama has been criticized for securing bergdahl's freedom for the release of five taliban prisoners at guantanamo bay. there is also word that president obama is moving ahead with his push to close the guantanamo bay prison despite the uproar over the release of five taliban prisoners in exchange of sergeant bowe

bergdahl. a significant number of prisoners are on their way toward release. currently there are 149 men being held at guantanamo. president obama has vowed to close the detention center but it has been blocked by congress. congress is pulling forward millions of dollars to bring our program to 14 prisons. $2.5million will be used to bring in music, dance, story telling, and drawing. robin starred as an inmate in the movie the shaw shank redemption. rebecca kaplan only entered the mayoral race this week but she may have an edge over her opponents. one political consultant tells us her entry is a game changer for the race. that is because among another 17 challengers to mayor jean

quan kaplan has the highest name recognition and most experience. >> i think the only way jean quan can hang on to the seat is if the challengers start fighting each other. if the challengers keep the focus of the race on quan, it would be a difficult scenario to how she could win. >> oakland's rank system ranks them first, second, and third. that system helped jean quan win the last mayoral election even though her challenger got the most first choice votes. time is 6:17. let's go to sal keeping an eye on traffic. sal, is it friday light out there? >> in some places it is. at other places it's not. it's a mixed bag out there. if westbound again we have slow traffic. that is some of the slowest we have there. there are no major problems if you are driving to dublin or

the castro valley area. let's go to the toll plaza. it is a nice looking drive. it is a drive here that will be taking about 20 minutes or so getting into san francisco. no major problems on the upper deck of the bay bridge. and the traffic continues to move along relatively well if you are driving on westbound 24 the traffic here looks good. i want to go back to the maps. we talked about livermore but i want to move it out to the sunol grade. we had problems earlier on 680 southbound and happy to say whatever was there was removed and you can see how the traffic is doing very nicely this morning. it's better than it has been for a long time on this drive. so go ahead and go now before something happens. 6:18 let's go to steve. all right, sal, thank you. we have a bigger fog bank this morning. there are a couple little pockets where there is a little bit of sun. i think i just heard from brandon in pacifica. he said steve, we have a little

bit of fog. it's rearing to go. it will be cooler for most even though some areas are sunny inland. a warmer weekend. we get a little dip today and then we will warm it back up. there is a lot hoar. a couple little breaks but not too many. yesterday temperatures came down a little bit. i stuck my neck out. but again i hang my hat on that delta breeze at travis. and it was spot on yesterday. fairfield 87. going 85 today. livermore was 89. that was four cooler than the day before. go 87 today. east san jose out near reed hillview. now high pressure will build back in for the weekend and it looks like it will disappear next week. but low clouds, cool, cool for many on the coast and the bay. it will be cooler and breezy inland even though some areas yeah it's hot. i get that. but there is some areas that will cool down even more so

inland today. the hottest day will be sunday and it looks like we drop starting on monday and big time on tuesday. san francisco dealing with a lot of low clouds. so is 61 today. yesterday was 62. there is a bigger fog bank. i don't see how they warm up that much. as you can see there is plenty there. 50s on the temps. there is a decent westerly breeze for some. including oakland. more westerly at napa. more westerly at concord. 22 gusting to 31. usually that is a sure sign they will cool down a little bit. there is so much fog it will make it pretty tough for some areas near the beaches to get above 59 degrees. morning fog, sunny. cooler for most. there could be drizzle. no reports yet. upper 80s and 90s. clear lake will be about 95-96 and same for ukiah. 60s and 70s for most here or low to mid 80s for many. warmer weather kicks in. that fog will burn off sooner

on saturday. there will be 90s near 100. vacaville and clear lake. still warm on the weekend and cooler tuesday. rising home prices helped push u.s. household wealth to a record. the federal reserve says the net worth of all u.s. households was nearly $82 trillion during the first quarter. that is up $1.5 trillion by the end of the year. home value jumped more than three quarters of a trillion dollars. rising stock prices also helped increase wealth. most of the increase is going to people who already consider upper middle class. stock values have increased since then with the dow and s & p opening up at record levels today. dow jones there at 16,836. another cheating scandal on a bay area ever school.

welcome back. at least two birds injured last month in a post office tree

trimming incident will be released this weekend. they were injured last month when a contractor for the postal service trimmed trees outside of the post office on 13th street. according to the international bird rescue mission, two of the birds will be released at martin luther king shoreline park. california supreme court says red light cameras are a valid way of catching drivers that do not stop at traffic signals. they argued pictures taken by the cameras are secondhand or hearsay evidence but the court ruled images and other information recorded by the cameras are presumed to be authentic evidence. but there are still some ways you can challenge red light camera tickets. >> if you can show there is a glitch or mechanical failure or pattern of failures, then you will be able to attack it. this doesn't mean you can never attack red light camera

results. >> hayward and san rafael already stopped using the cameras saying they were not cost effective. a racehorse with ties to the bay area hoping to make history. the triple crown is made by winning three horse races. the last time this was done was back in 1978. california chrome who is bred near bakersfield, california has been undefeated since last december. the horse's trainer also used to work at golden gate fields between 2001 and 2007. a lot of new racehorsing fans. 6:26 is the time. developing news out of hayward. a deadly fire. we're going to hear from a neighbor who saw firefighters race into that burning home. >> and there are concerns this morning about the possibility of evidence tampering in the

burning home. >> good morning. thank you for joining us i'm brian flores in for dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. >> we have mostly cloudy skies on the coast. there is an awful lot of fog out there. or a good amount of fog. however you want to look at it. low clouds, breezy inland. coast, fog, sunny breezy. it will be a little cooler today. we'll have a stronger component of a westerly breeze. it will be a tough day to get that warm. i will stay in the 60s for many. starting off mostly cloudy. cloudy and 55 degrees. there is a lot of fog there. it's getting helped along. weak system going right over us. 50s on the temp. 54-55.

san jose at 53. but a westerly breeze more toward napa and also concord and 22 gusting to 31 at travis. that is really a sure sign there will be cooler air spilling into the delta as well. look at l fog. with that in mind we have a morning fog forecast and it will be sunny. 50s over by some of the coasts. and also 60s. 60s and 70s and more 80s than 90s inlapped. here is sal. thank you very much. we're looking at the east shore freeway and traffic will be doing very well. in fact the drive time here hasn't changed much at all. it was about this drive time at 18 minutes and here we are two hours later. westbound we are seeing a delay here of 258 minutes. that is is your drive time. takes about 15 minutes to wait through the traffic. another 10 or so on the bridge. and that is your 258 minute drive time rounding up a little bit just so that it will be

slightly less for you. and there are no major problems on 680 southbound as you drive from concord to walnut creek. now let's go back to the desk. we begin with developing news from hayward. we first reported about an hour and a half ago. firefighters still on the scene of a deadly fire. the victim an elderly woman. ktvu janine de la vega is joining us now with new information from investigators. janine. >> reporter: well, yes. firefighters as they were inspecting the home inside and going through the rooms, they told us that they did find more pets that had died. now we are told another cat has died. two cats and two parakeets did not survive. the elderly woman that lived here also did not survive even though she was rescued by firefighters. a husband and wife were sleeping and woke up to smoke and heat.

they grabbed a fire extinguisher but it didn't work. the elderly about was trapped in a bedroom. we are told they had ducks, chickens, bids, and cats. again so far four animals were also found dead. >> she has a lot of cats. she loves cats. other than that, you know, she was a quiet person. she kept to herself. >> it was shocking as i woke up this morning. >> the husband is at the hospital being treated for chest pain from the smoke. his wife is being helped by the red cross because at this home they lost their belongings and the house sun livable. fire investigators say they

don't believe the fire is suspicious. the cause of the fire may be electrical because many cords were found in the bedroom and too many plugs may have been put into an outlet. again they are inside looking around for evidence to confirm what caused this fire. there is a new twist in the federal case against state senator leland yee and raymond chow. ktvu news obtained exclusive video of a break in at a print shop. alex savidge is joining us at the shop to explain the investigation. alex. >> reporter: good morning. the judge in this case has ordered all the evidence to remain under sealed. we are talking at things like fbi wiretap transcripts and other sensitive documents. they left that evidence here at the color drop print shop to have some of the items copied for defense attorneys. while the documents were here,

someone broke into the place. you can see the window boarded up here. this is surveillance video. it happened on may 25th. according to a san francisco police report obtained by ktvu news, a print shop employee claimed none of the federal evidence was stolen during the break in but the attorney for defendant raymond shrimp boy chow says he is concerned some of the evidence may have been tampered with or compromised in some way and he is surprised there wouldn't be more security at a business that does contract work for federal prosecutors and handling evidence that is not supposed to be made public. >> the federal government fought tooth and nail to keep it private and then turned it around and gave it to basically a civilian organization.

>> reporter: an fbi spokesman told ktvu news none of the original evidence has been released from fbi custody. you may remember chow and yee are a number of criminals facing fraud charges. illegal weapon sales and a murder for hire plot. according to chow's attorney, this particular print shop in san francisco has a contract with the u.s. attorney's office to dispurse thousands of pages of evidence to the defense attorneys in this case. we have reached out to representatives for the u.s. attorney's office. we just put in a call a short time ago trying to get a comment. a new plan to crack down on teenagers causing havoc in the east bay set to be considered. police say they are terrorizing the public and then hopping on

bart to get away. christina rendon is live in san leandro. >> reporter: san leandro police are having their first meeting tonight to start this task force in an effort to crack down on the crime and keep bart riders like these morning commuters and the greater public safe. san leandro police say these groups first started to congregate at the bay fair mall. the teenagers have also been causing trouble in hayward and police call these incidents wildly similar to the attacks seen in other cities. and then they get on bart and get away. last week a pack of 100 teenagers terrorized people at the bay fair station chasing them to the parking lot. attacks have included stealing cell phones and nike shoes. some victims have been hit with guns and knocked unconscious. the violence has continued each

week getting more. >> i go over here and catch the bus every day. on the way home i notice there has been a lot of kids. tons of them causing trouble. >> reporter: a number of agencies is expected to be at tonight's meeting. in the future they hope to include other agencies along the bart corridor to crack down on this crime. live in san leandro christina rendon. >> thank you. a memorial is continuing to grow at seattle pacific university where a gunman went on a deadly rampage. students have been leaving flowers at the entrance of the school since the shooting. the suspect has been identified as a 26-year-old man who does not attend the school. he went into the engineering building armed with a knife and shotgun and then started shooting. he killed one person and

injured three others. the gunman was reloading when a student working as a building monitor subdued him by using -- if we are going to find any light in this, it's people around them stepped up. >> the suspect will appear in today today. tonight hundreds of people will gatt never san jose to remember a local teenager. 19-year-old george chen was one of six people killed in that massacre. he graduated from leland high school in san jose just two years ago. a memorial service is scheduled for 8:00 tonight at the chinese church of christ south valley in san jose. investigators are trying to determine the cause of two small fires at a downtown construction site. they were both first reported at 9:30 last night on beal street. no one was hurt and the flames

caused minor damage. arson investigators were called to the scene late last night but still no word on exactly how the two fires started. time is 6:39. a teenage boy is in the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in castro valley. chp investigators say the incident happened on lake chabot road just before 3:00 this morning. the pickup truck driver told the chp he was on his way to work and didn't see anything unusual. then he realized he had hit something and pulled over to the side of the road. other drivers were on the road as well and someone called 911. >> we were notified of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. for unknown reasons the pedestrian was lying in the street prior to the traffic collision. the party was a juvenile and we have yet to ascertain why the party may have been in the road. >> investigators say none of the drivers they talked with saw the boy lying on the road. the teenager was taken to eden valley medical center but details are not being released.
