muni back on track this morning but there's a lot riding on a meeting tomorrow after this week's sickout. >> reporter: random attacks on the public have east bay b.a.r.t. riders worried. how police are coming together to crack down on the crime. also, a break-in at a san francisco print shop. how it's tied to a political corruption case. "mornings on 2" starts now. investigators are inside a home that burned in hayward overnight killing an elderly woman. this is a live look at the scene this morning. two other people were rescued. ktvu's janine de la vega has been on the scene since 5:00 this morning and in just about two minutes, the simple mistake that may have sparked the deadly fire, plus reaction from neighbors. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm brian flores in for dave clark. let's get your friday,

weekend started. steve's here. expecting a warmup over the weekend. bigger fog bank for most. a little bit of sun in daly city and pacifica. coomber for most inland -- cooler for most inland today. if it will be warm, warm to hot especially ail way from the coast. a weak system dragged across us. as it does, that lifts the fog bank and lets it go farther inland. 67. cloudy to mostly cloudy. some of that fog will be slow to burn back for areas dealing with cool temperatures, el cerrito, sausalito. there was a little bit of a break in the fog. but it's stilled in nicely. 50s -- filled in nicely. 50 on the temperatures. they are running cooler than yesterday. the rampup of the breeze continues. concord west at 12. napa west at 10. and fairfield 21, gusting to 29. there are all signs of a little cooler inland pattern. maybe all the way out to

vacaville. low clouds and fog will get chewed up which will allow inland temperatures to warm up. cooler for most. so far, no reports of drizzle. breezy to windy. sunny, 80s through the interior. 50s, 60s, 70s closer to the water. here's sal. westbound -- yes, westbound 80 coming in from the carquinez bridge. that looks good, steve, coming out to the macarthur maze. this commute since we've been on the air at 4:30 this morning has been about the same drive time, which is certainly showing some friday light. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see traffic that's backed up for about a 20-minute drive time. it's a little better than it normally is. some of the freeways getting to the bay bridge are also just a little bit better. i think you might notice a different on 580, on 24, and 880. speaking. east bay, 680 southbound has been looking pretty good in walnut creek. as we look at 580 westbound, yes, there are slowdowns. but the drive times are much less than they were, let's say, a couple of days ago.

as we pinpoint 580, just about 30 minutes green grant line road and the 680 interchange. it's 7:03. back to the desk. all right, sal. thank you. we begin with tragic news from hayward. firefighters still on the scene of a deadly fire there. ktvu's janine de la vega has been talking to witnesses. she joins us live from the scene of the tragedy. janine? >> reporter: right now, investigators are inside the home. you can see one of the firefighters here. they've -- coming outside. they've been inside looking around at all of the charred debris. some of it is still left here on the front yard. the house is severely destroyed. we're hearing that the fire may have started in one of the bedrooms. investigators say they think the cause may be electrical. a husband and a wife were sleeping and at about 1:00 a.m., they woke up to the smell of smoke and saw flames in the front bedroom of the house located on townsend avenue.

they grabbed a five extinguisher. but it didn't work. they escaped. when firefighters arrives, flames were shooting out of the window. the elderly woman was in bed. she's wheelchair bound. firefighters had to go through the flames and rescue her. they performed cpr but were unable to resuscitate her. >> i thought, wow. everybody got out. that kind of relieved me. two minutes later, we seen two firefighters carry her out and they tried cpr for a short amount of time. i don't know if she was already gone when they brought her out of the house or not, you know. it's hard to -- my father was a firefighter. it's hard to stay in a house that's fully engulfed in flames even if you are not in the room where the flames are, you are gonna die from smokes

inhalation. >> all right. we've lost our signal there with janine de la vega who is at the scene of a deadly fire in -- in the teest -- in the east bay. happening today, fighting back against teens terrorizing and attacking b.a.r.t. riders at several east bay stations. ktvu's cristina rendon is live to let us know about the specific steps being taken. >> reporter: san leandro police will be meeting tonight with other agencies in the east bay to create a specific task force to crack down on the crime that they are seeing. they are gonna be talking about collaborating towards improving public safety. the bayfair b.a.r.t. station is one of the stations that teenagers are using as a getaway after their attacks. police are calling these attacks -- they say last weekend dozens of teens terrorized people at this station and chased them to the

bayfair parking lot. people are having items stolen, getting hit with guns and knocked unconscious. they say the incident started in may and they've been getting worse since then. they did arrest one teen for a minor offense but they say something needs to be done. >> people are trying to work, do their own thing and these kids come and disrupt their lives. i don't think it's cool at all. >> reporter: and tonight's meeting starts at 5:30. there are other agencies other than san leandro police that are expected to be leer like the alameda county sheriff's office, possibly people from the district attorney's office, also agencies from oakland, hayward and even berkeley. back to you. >> thank you. 7:07. muni service is back on track this morning, ahead of a critical meeting tomorrow. just a short time ago, muni informed the riders that all 600 of the vehicles are running on schedule and people riding buses, trains and cable cars

can expect a smooth ride. what's been a rough week for the bay area's biggest transit system. starting monday, muni operators staged a three-day sickout in a contract dispute. muni management and union leaders will meet with an arbitrator tomorrow. there is a different type of trouble for drivers in the east bay. a.c. transit installed new fare boxes in january giving its riders high-tech ways to way. but many say the new fare boxes are actually slowing down a.c. transit service. >> because it's very slow. the dollar bills -- anything that's not a stiff dollar bill will get pushed back to the passenger. >> with the fare boxes, we got information that it was hard to get some of the dollars into the machine. something we need to work on. >> critics plan to bring their complaints to next week's a.c. transit board meeting. they will ask the board to keep paper bus transfers at least

for now. 7:08. a man accused of trying to build a bomb in san francisco is due back in court today. ryan chamberlain was arrested on monday near the golden gate bridge. a judge mass granted a defense request for chamberlain to undergo a mental health exam. fbi recovered bomb-making materials at his home. that included a model rocket engine, powdery substance, ball bearings, screws and a circuit board. fright at first sight. a man said he was robbed at gunpoint after meeting up for a date with a woman he met through an online dating service. it started after midnight in beshal heights -- bernal heights park. the victim said shortly after he met the woman, two men approached, pointed a gun at him and demanded his cell phone, wallet and cash. the three suspects left in a black sedan. the victim called 911. police spotted the black sedan a short time later in bayview.

a chase began and the suspects crashed near mcclairen park. california is putting together millions of dollars for art programs to prisons, for dance, righting, story telling and wrilling. writing. 7:10. it's not an official campaign bus tour but hillary clinton will be in the bay area later this month and so will a bus full of supporters who want her to run for president. the ready for hillary bus is following clinton and the country as she makes appearances promoting her bus. the bus is scheduled to show up june 25th at the orpheum theater where she has a book event scheduled at 7:00 in the evening. and her book is scheduled to be released next tuesday. in it, she talks about her

it is 7:13. police from canada have arrested the man they say was targeting officers, killing three of them. the manhunt ended yesterday evening when police finally tracked down 24-year-old justin bourque armed with high-powered weapons. he killed three police officers wednesday night and wounded two others. >> if anybody said anything to him, he didn't look at them. >> during the manhunt police locked down the area and urged people to stay home. schools and government offices were closed yesterday as a precaution. gilroy police have arrested one man for murder while

another man remains on the loose. this is a picture of 59-year- old david valvez. he's considered armed and dangerous. the other suspect is accused of killing his wife. police say galvez took part in the murder. people are expected to say goodbye to a teen hit and killed by a train last month while walking across the train tracks next to her home. police say britney silva was wearing ear bugs and did not hear or see the train coming. a funeral service is scheduled to take place at 10:00 tomorrow morning in union city. and there is a new push for change in the oakland police department. the city council will soon debate a plan to create a powerful citizen police run panel. it would have the authority to set policy, audit police investigation, look into complaints as well as discipline officers. among other things, the proposal would result in a reduced role for the internal

affairs division. rebecca kaplan only entered the mayoral race this week but she may already have an edge over her opponents. she made her first public appearance yesterday since announcing her candidacy. one political consultant tells us her entry is a game changer for the race. that's because among the 17 challengers to mayor jean quan, kaplan has the highest name recognition and the most experience. >> i think the only way jean quan can hang onto the seat is if the challengers start fighting each other. but if the challengers keep the focus of the race on quan it would be a difficult scenario to see how she could win. >> oakland's rank choice voting system allows people to vote for three candidates, ranking them first, second and third choice. you may remember the system helped jean quan win the last mayoral election even though her challenger, don perata, got the most first-choice votes.

california supreme court says red light cameras are a valid way of catching drivers who don't stop at traffic signals. a southern california woman argued pictures taken by the cameras are second hand or hearsay evidence. but the court ruled that images and other information recorded by the cameras are presumed to be authentic evidence. but drivers can still challenge red light camera tickets. >> if you can show there is a glitch or mechanical failure, you can attack it. >> it's not clear if this ruling could change here in the bay area. hayward and san rafael have stopped using the cameras, say they are not cost-effective.

yee and raymond "shrimp boy," and it's the new twist in this investigation. a defense attorney calls the information sensitive that the government worked hard to keep secret from the public. alex savidge is live near the print shop to show us exactly what happened. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the judge in this case has ordered all evidence to remain under seal. we're talking about things like fbi wiretap transcripts and prosecutors for the u.s. attorney's office reportedly brought that evidence here to the color drop print shop in san francisco to have those items copied for defense attorneys. but while those documents were here, someone broke into the place. you can see the boarded up window here. evidence of the crime that took place. we want to show you surveillance video. this burglar kicking in the window at the business that's here on van ness avenue. this happened on may 25th and according to a san francisco police report obtained by ktvu, a print shop employee claimed

none of that federal evidence was stolen during the crime. but the attorney for defendant raymond "shrimp boy" says he's concerned some of the evidence may have been tarp perked with -- tampered with or compromised in some way. he's surprised there wouldn't be more security at a business that does contract work with federal prosecutors. >> and they left all of the -- this information in their custody. they were obviously vulnerable to a break-in and when the break-in occurred, there was no federal followup, the fbi didn't get involved. >> reporter: an fbi spokesman told ktvu none of the original evidence in this case has been released from fbi custody. chow and suspended state senator leland yee are a number of defendants facing corruption charges as part of a wide- ranging fraud case that involves illegal weapons sales and a murder-for-hire plot. according to chow's attorney, this particular print shop in san francisco has a contract

with the u.s. attorney's office to disperse thousands of pages of evidence to defense attorneys in this case. we've reached out several times to representatives for the u.s. attorney's office here in san francisco for a comment about this break-in at this print shop and how it could impact the house. we are still waiting to hear back. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. investigators in san francisco are trying to determine the cause of two small fires at a downtown construction site. they were first reported around 9:30 last night on beale street near folsom. this is a viewer photo taken of the flames as firefighters arrived on the scene. no one was hurt and the flames appeared to cause just minor damage. arson investigators were called to the scene late last night but there's still no word on how the two fires started. tonight, hundreds of people are expected to gather in san jose to remember a local teen killed in the isla vista

rampage. 19-year-old george chen of san jose was one of six people killed in the massacre near the uc santa barbara campus last month. he graduated from leland high school in san jose two years ago. a memorial service is scheduled for 8:00 tonight at the chinese church of christ south valley in san jose. 7:35. a concord couple is speaking out about their son's near drowning in hopes of making other families aware it can happen in an instant. jackson northrop is recovering from a brain injury after falling in his grandparent's school during a family parby cue. his family only looked away a few seconds and that was long enough. >> i think the more people around the dangerous it is. you feel there's more eyes on the situation, when in reality, it's not that -- it's not true. >> jackson's parents say he's

making incredible progress. last night many of the police and first responders attended a fund-raiser helped the family raise money for medical expenses. we've posted a link so you can follow jackson's progress as well. look for the web links section under hot topics. we're months away from the first 49er game at levi stadium. the team is still working out the details on how to get 70,000 people to and from the stadium on game day. pam cook is in the newsroom with the plan that could benefit nearby cities. >> good morning. even though the team has moved to santa clara, thousands of fans did not. they will have to figure out a new way to commute to the game. one plan is to get 9er plans to leave their cars in nearby mountain view and take the fairly quick ride to the new stadium on the light rail system. city leaders in mountain view considering letting 9er fans park for free in downtown parking garages on game days and supporters of the plan say

that would bring thousands of people and their money to mountain view bars and restaurants. >> that would be good. that would be great for business. weekends here are usually slow for mountain view. >> it would be a win-win for everyone. i think that mountain view -- we have a beautiful downtown with restaurants and bars. >> however, some people worry this would bring too many people and too much traffic to mountain view. now, the city council there will review the plan in two weeks but it could certainly take many adjustments during and after that first full season at the new stadium. reporting live in the newsroom, pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, pam. the organizers of the super bowl 50 at levi stadium are thinking about parking and traffic. the biggest game will be played in santa clara on 2016 but many of the super bowl parties will be held in san francisco about 40 miles away. a special task force has been set up to figure out how to

move all of those fans between san francisco and santa clara. well, today the oakland animal shelter will get a face- lift thanks to the help of local volunteers. they say more than 100 people from the accounting firm deloit will be giving back to the shelter today by cleaning, painting and adding plants as well. the shelter has been trying to change its image. they've been pushing to become independent from the police department. a vote is scheduled on that issue sometime next week. a missing dog with a very special connection to his owner is back home this morning. arthur was reunited with his therapy dog named love. look how excited he is. it happened at the san leandro marina last night. that's where the dog went missing. a big campaign was launched. he was robbed and shot seven years ago and is paralyzed. he and his dog were overjoyed at the reunion. >> i'm gonna get her

the latest u.s. jobs report was released just two hours ago and economists say there is reason to celebrate. the unemployment rate stayed at its five-year low of 6.3% and the country has now recovered the number of jobs lost during the recession. ktvu's kyla campbell is live in washington with the real significance behind these numbers. kyla? >> reporter: the economy added 217,000 jobs in may but the bigger story here, nearly five years after the great recession ended, the u.s. economy has

elderly woman was killed in a house fire in hayward. firefighters are still on the scene looking for the cause of the deadly fire. ktvu's janine de la vega joins us from hayward to tell us what she has learned. >> reporter: good morning, tori. firefighters have been inside the house inspecting it looking through all of the bedrooms as the charred debris and looking for evidence at this point, they think the cause may be electrical. they are waiting for animal control to die. several animals died in the fire. there are doves, pigeons and even ducks in the back yard that will survive. the fire started at the home on townsend avenue. the husband and wife woke up and saw the flames. they grabbed a fire extinguisher but it didn't work. they escaped. when the firefighters arrived, the flames were shooting out the front window. the elderly aunt was trapped in the bedroom. she was in a bed, wheelchair bound. firefighters had to go through

the flames and rescue her. they carried her outside and performed cpr but were unable to save her. they found multiple appliances plugged into an outlet which may have caused the fire to start. >> you can't overload your circuits. i'm not sure if that's what the cause was here. but just seeing that, it increases your possibility of starting a fire in your home. >> reporter: the husband is at the hospital being treated for chest pain. his wife is being helped by the red cross because at the home, they lost their belongings and the house is unlivable. two cats, two pair row keats and twov -- pair row -- birds were found dead. they are still out here looking around the house to determine if that's the definite cause. reporting live, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. there is a new plan to crack down on teenagers causing

havoc in the east bay. police say they are terrorizing the public and hopping onto bart to get away. we're live in san leandro with more on what authorities plan on doing about it tonight. cristina, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. san leandro police are gonna meet with a number of dicht eafnses to talk about a -- different agencies to talk about a task force they want to put together to crack down on the crime and keep the greater public safety. one of the biggest challenges for police, it's not against the law for teenagers to congregate together so long as they are not breaking the law. but in these cases, the teens are intimidating and attacking the public, then they are using b.a.r.t. to get away. police say these wilding incidents are similar to planned attacks seen in other major cities. the violence has gotten worse since the start of may prompting police to put together this task force. one man says his wife commutes

sexual assault. >> stanford has strengthened their programs during the last few years. a piece of history will be making its way back on the california roadways later this year. the dmv will begin rolling out the classic black california license plates with yellow lettering from the '60s. the california legacy program was created back in 2012 designed to let the dmv reissue license plates from the '50s, '60s and '70s as long as it receives at least 7500 applications. the dmv says it now has enough applications for the black plates and they should be sent out in the next month. the program will issue yellow and blue plates once there are enough applicants. that will be pretty cool to see. >> that will be. >> i like the blue ones. >> pam cook didn't believe me there were blue ones. there they are.

welcome back to "mornings on 2." time now 8:12. new this morning, a navy hospital is under lockdown in virginia after a service member was stabbed. the attack happened in front of a store at the military base. a local tv station reports the victim has critical injuries and that investigators have identified a male suspect but have not yet released his picture. patients and hospital staff have been ordered to stay in place as guards search for the attacker. meantime, police in canada have arrested the man they say was targeting officers, killing three of them. the manhunt ended yesterday evening when police finally tracked down 24-year-old justin bourque. he was found hiding in the backyard of a home in the same town where the officers were killed. armed with high-powered weapons, bourque killed three royal canadian mounted police officers wednesday night and wounded two others. >> he had this really sad look

in his face, he was walking in a straight line. if anyone said anything to him, he didn't look at them. he didn't blink. >> during the manhunt police locked down the area and urged people to stay at home. schools and government offices were closed yesterday as a precaution. we're learning more about a deadly shooting last night that happened on 54th in oakland last night. in the last 30 minutes, police say the victim was 22-year-old isaiah sudan. he apparently just left his home when someone opened fire from a car. officers responded to a shot spotter report and found him lying on the street. a $10,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest. we're learning more information about a deadly officer-involved shooting in sunnyvale. officers from the city's department of public safety went to a home yesterday to arrest homicide suspect 53-year- old glen griggs.

officers say griggs had a gun, refused orders to drop it, and fearing for their lives, they shot and killed him. griggs was suspected of killing a woman he used to live with. she disappeared a year ago. 8:14. gilroy police have arrested one man for murder while another man remains on the loose. this is a picture now of 59- year-old david galvez. police arrested the other suspect, he's accused of killing his wife in april. police say galvez took part in the murder also. this weekend, hundreds of people are expected to say their final goodbyes to a teenager who was hit and killed by a train in san leandro last month. britney silva was killed while walking across the train cracks right next to her -- tracks right next to her home. police say she was wearing ear bugs and didn't hear or see the train coming. a funeral service is tomorrow morning. the city council will soon

welcome back to "mornings on 2." coming up on 8:30. a break-in at this printing shop in san francisco is raising concerns about a high- profile cil case in the city -- criminal case in the city. these are live pictures outside the color drop printing shop. in a moment, its connection to the case against a state lawmaker and a suspected mobster. i'm brian flores in for dave clark. let's get your day started with weather and traffic. we have a lot of fog and low clouds. temperatures will cool down a little bit today. then we'll start to jump them up. 55 to start. there are a couple breaks. mostly cloudy. we'll go mostly sunny here. 67, though. tomorrow looks to be warmer. the fog and low clouds, again, got thickened up. yesterday was somewhat better. but today it's showing up. a few 60s. but it was warmer yesterday at this time. more 50s than anything else.

combine that with a good sea breeze or westerly breeze, delta breeze. that means temperatures inland will come down for most unless you are really far away from a fog influence. if you are, it will be in the 50s, 6s, 60s, 70s around the -- 50s, 60s, 70s. low clouds, cool. 80s. we'll have more on that warmup for the weekend in about 15 minutes. here's sal. >> good morning. we're looking aten improved -- at an improved commute if you are trying to get into san francisco. i hope you waited. right now it looks good coming in the city. there's about a ten-minute drive across the bridge. there you are. the drive time is the lowest we've had. also looking at 880 this is still slow at the normal 8:00 crowd comes through. it's about a ten-minute drive from downtown oakland from this spot at the coliseum. in san jose, and the south bay, we have a look at the traffic here. it's a little bit slow on 101. but 280 and 85 are doing well.

here's some of the drive times -- back to the desk. >> all right. sal, thank you. there are concerns over a break-in at a san francisco print shop. this exclusive video captures a person breaking into that shop that may have been handling materials pertaining to the criminal case against suspended state senator leland yee and raymond "shrimp boy" chow. it's a new twist in this lengthy fbi investigation. a defense attorney calls the materials sensitive information. alex savidge is live at the san francisco print shop to show us exactly what happened. alex, good morning. >> reporter: well, brian, good morning to to you. the evidence has -- to you. the evidence has been under seal. fbi transcripts from wiretaps and other documentation and prosecutors reportedly left that evidence here at the color

drop print shop just so some of those documents could be copied for some of the defense attorneys. as you can see, while the evidence was here, there was a break-in. you can see the boarded-up window here. someone broke into this place. this is surveillance video. the burglar kicked in the window. this all happened on may 25th. and according to a san francisco police report obtained by ktvu, a print shop employee claimed none of that federal evidence was stolen during the break-in but the attorney for defendant raymond "shrimp boy" chow says he's concerned some of that evidence may have been tampered with or compromised in some way during the crime. and he is surprised there wouldn't be more security at a business that's doing contract work with federal prosecutors. >> the government fought took and nail to keep this information secret from the public and turned around and

gave this information to an unsecured, unarmed -- basically a civilian organization. >> reporter: according to chow's attorney this print shop has the contract with the u.s. attorney's office to disperse thousands of pages of evidence to the defense attorneys in this case. now, you will remember chow and suspended state senator leland yee are among a number of defendants now facing federal corruption charges as part of a wide-ranging fraud case that involves accusations of illegal weapons sales and a murder-for- hire plot, among other things. an fbi spokesman told ktvu none of the original evidence in this case has been released from fbi custody. we've reached out several times to a representative from the u.s. attorney's office looking for a comment about this break- in and its potential impact on this case. we've not yet heard back. we're live this morning in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you. investigators in san francisco are also trying to determine the cause of two small fires at a downtown

construction site. they were first reported around 9:30 on beale street near folsom. now, this is a viewer photo taken of the flames as firefighters arrived on scene. no one was hurt and the fire appeared to cause minor damage. arson investigators were called to the scene late last night. still no word on how the two fires started. 8:34. tonight, hundreds of people are expected to gather in san jose to remember a local teen killed in the isla vista rampage. 19-year-old george chen of san jose was one of six people killed in the massacre near the uc santa barbara campus last month. he graduated from leland high school in san jose just two years ago. a memorial service is scheduled for 8:00 tonight at the chinese church of christ south valley in san jose. in the wake of the isla vista rampage, concord's mayor is pushing to bring more resource officers back to school campuses. mayor tim grayson has been meeting with the mt. diablo

school district to restore three resource officers positions at concord high schools an hand middle schools. the positions were cut from the 2012 budget. grayson says returning school resource officers to concord campuses to protect our students is very important, especially in light of recent violent attacks on school campuses across the nation. and a concord couple is speaking out about their son's near drowning in hopes of making other families aware it can happen in an instant. jackson northrop has spent the last month at a hospital. he's recovering from a brain injury after falling in his grandparent's pool during a family barbecue. they say they only looked away for a second to tend to another child, that was long enough for their son to fall into the water without anyone noticing. >> i think the more people around the more dangerous it is. you feel there's more eyes on the situation when in reality, it's not that true.

>> jackson's parents say he's making incredible progress. last night many of the police and fire first responders to henned save -- helped save his life, attended a fund-raiser to help raise money for medical expenses. we've posted a link so you can follow jackson's progress. look for the web links section under hot topics. the team has moved but the fans have not. ktvu's pam cook is in our newsroom with the new plan to get 49er fans to the new stadium plus who is for this plan and who is against it. good morning, pam. >> good morning. it will probably take a first season or so to work out the strategy. we're talking about 70,000 people on game days. one plan is to get 9er fans to live their cars in in the view and take the ride on the light rail system. city leaders in mountain view are considering letting 9er fans park for free in the

downtown parking garages. supporters say that would bring thousands of people and their money to mountain view bars and restaurants. >> that would be good. that would be great for business because weekends here are usually slow for mountain view. >> even prior to the stadium going in in santa clara, the city of mountain view has been concerned with crowding in our parking areas. >> that's the sentiment from critics in and around the mountain view who worry about the extra traffic coming into town. of course, a lot of 49er fans still live in san francisco and they plan to take caltrain to the new stadium. but there's word that prices on the train could soon go up. reporting live in the newsroom, pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, pam. thank you. the organizers of super bowl 50 at levi stadium, they are also thinking about parking and traffic. the biggest game in american pro sports will be played in santa clara in 2016. but many of the super bowl parties will be held in san francisco, some 40 miles away. a special task force has been

set up to figure out how to move those fans from san francisco to santa clara. the oakland animal shelter will get a face-lift thanks to the help of local volunteers. the shelter says more than 100 people from the accounting firm deloit will be giving back to the shelter by cleaning, painting and adding plants fnl the shelter has been -- plants. the shelter has been trying to become independent from the police department. a missing dog with a very special connection to his owner back home this morning. arthur was reunited with his therapy dog named love at the san leandro marina last night. that's where the dog went missing wednesday night. a big campaign was launched to find her. arthur has been paralyzed since he was robbed and shot. both were overjoyed at the reunion. >> i will never let her go. i'm getting her a collar,

microchipped, and a love bug sweater. >> and you are sure this is her? >> i'm 100% this is love. >> that's what love looks like. the man who returned love bought a dog from his aunt from two people at a walmart in oakland. he saw reports about the missing dog and knew he had to return it. there's talk of a reward but it's unclear if it was delivered. happy reunion there. 20 minutes before 9:00, a harrowing tale of survival from a couple's truck struck by lightning. >> it's an awful feeling to have. i saw our lives passing in front of my eyes. >> reporter: we're live in hayward where a family is grieving after an elderly woman losing her life in an early- morning fire. we'll tell you what firefighters found in one of the bedrooms that has provided clues as to how this fire started.

welcome back to "mornings on 2." 8:43. a family is grieving after a woman was killed in a house fire in the east bay early this morning. firefighters still on the scene looking for the cause of this fire. ktvu's janine de la vega joins us live from hayward to tell us what they found in one of the bedrooms. janine? >> reporter: brian, a fire captain told us they found multiple appliances plugged into the bedroom. take a lack at this pile right over here -- a look at this pile right over here of some of the charred belongings inside the house that they dragged out. in one of the bedrooms, they found a fridge, microwave, and a heater. they say all of that probably overloaded and sparked the fire. one of the firefighters who was investigating told me that they do believe the cause was electrical. this was very tragic. a woman in her 70s who lived

here died. the fire started at 1:00 this morning at a home on townsend avenue. a husband and a wife woke up to the smell of smoke and saw flames in a friend bed rule. they grabbed a fear extinguisher. it department work. and when firefighters arrived flames were shooting out. the elderly aunt was trapped in another bedroom. she was in bed and wheelchair bound. firefighters had to go through the flames to rescue her. they carried her outside, performed cpr but were unable to resuscitate her. >> i was pretty shaken last night. like one the kid said, this is like a movie. all of these fire trucks out here. people running around. it's kind of tough. it kind of hurts, you know. >> reporter: the husband was taken to the hospital and was treated for chest pain. the wife is being helped by the red cross because at this point, they lost their

belongings, the husband is unlivable. we're told two cats and two birds and two doves were found dead. firefighters found other animals that did survive. they found ducks, pigeonses in the back -- pigeons in the backyard. animal control is on the way to pick up the animals. fire officials have determined the cause of this fire was electrical. reporting live from hayward, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning, president obama is taking part in the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the d-day invasion in normandy, france. he joined the french president and world war ii veterans at the american sege tari, where more -- cemetery, where more than 9,000 u.s. troops are buried. the president said the american commitment to liberty is written in blood on the beaches of normandy. >> omaha, normandy, this was

democracy's beachhead, our victory in that war decided not just a century but shaked the security and well-being of all . >> more than 150,000 allied troops stormed the beaches of normandy. it was the beginning of a massive invasion to drive the nazis out of france. the d-day changed the course of world war ii in europe. the largest unemployment report is in. economists say there's reason to celebrate for the fourth straight month, the economy added more than 200,000 jobs. we've now recovered the number of jobs lost during the recession. kyla campbell is live in washington, d.c. to explain why conservatives say more work needs to be done. kyla? >> reporter: the economy added 217,000 jobs in may but the big story in this month's report is that the u.s. economy has

regained the 8.7 million jobs that were lost during the great recession. the biggest growths were seen in the healthcare and business sectors. they accounted for half of the jobs added last month. that said, this report also shows 7 million people work part time only because their hours were cut or because they couldn't find full-time jobs. another 3.4 million people have been out of work for five months or locker. conservatives say the quality of the job matters more than the quantity. they say they are not good bread-winner type of jobs. >> the recent unemmoment has come -- unemployment has come down. that's primarily because the population growth and because millions of americans have simply given up looking for work. >> reporter: the national unemployment rate has stayed the same at 6.3%. california still has one of the highest rates for unemployment. kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2

pretty good-sized fog bank. showing signs of retreating a little bit usually by 9:00, it begins to move. there's a lot out there. with that in mind, it will be a cooler day for most. climate data for san francisco, there we go, put a quarter in the machine to get it to go there. average high, 66, 52 for the city this time of year. the records are what caught my eye, 19 -- excuse me. 95 in 1883 is the record high and 47 back in 1917. we'll be close today on the low. i think the low in the city bottomed out at 53. but the high temperature been lee low -- below. livermore at 60. 57 novato. 59 sfo. on the mild side for some. get a southeast breeze. had a couple of pockets of sun early for a while.

it has been three months since the malaysia airlines jet disappeared and now the families of passengers want to conduct their own investigation. they hope to raise $3 million for a reward to encourage whistle-blowers with key information about the flight to come forward. the families also hope to raise another $2 million to hire private investigators to follow up on leads. well, in a few minutes, testimony is set to resume in bryan stow's civil trial in l.a. he's suing the dodgers accusing the team of inadequate stadium security. yesterday, jurors heard from the two dodger stadium security guards who were supposed to be patrolling the parking lot where the brutal beating took place. however, the guards testified they were sent to a different part of the stadium parking lot away from the area known as lot 2. >> there's 56,000 people after the game, now charging towards the gate and there's nobody in

lot 2. >> the lawsuit filed accuses the dodgers and frank mccourt of negligence. the case is expected to wrap up in three weeks. now to a story out of alberta, canada you have to see to believe. this is slow-motion footage. a gray truck is struck by lightning. you can see the panic that erupted inside. al and betty say the pickup fried and partially melted, smoke filled the cabin and the door locks and windows were jammed. but al jumped into action. >> i put my two feet up against the window trying to kick it out. i don't know how many times i tried and tried. >> an officer who witnessed the entire incident was already running toward the truck to help. the couple made it out safely and celebrated their 47th anniversary just a few days later. >> unbelievable.
