home where federal agents also discovered a large drug operation this morning. ktvu's janine de la vega is live in san jose where officials just finished a news conference. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: good afternoon. police have 20th street here blocked off at julian because federal agents are inside a home here they say was a drug lab, where crystal meth was being produced. they are calling it a sizable operation. at 7:15 this morning, agents from the department of homeland security and the drug enforcement administration served a search warrant on the home because they received information that drugs were being manufactured at the home. they detained two adults and two young children who were inside. they found large quantities of crystal methamphetamine. a hazard out materials team came and swept the house because of the dangerous chemicals inside. >> the size and scope of the lab is yet to be determined. there's a large amount of

methamphetamine that has already been located. the amounts have not been determined yet but this is a sizable operation. hundreds of thousands of dollars of methamphetamine was coming to and from this location just from initial estimates. >> reporter: authorities believe this house was a transfer location that was being used to turn methamphetamine from mexico possibly into the crystal form and then it was being sent out to other locations so it could be sold. authorities would not say if the adults detained were mexican nationals. they are being placed in protective custody. >> it underscores the trend we've been seeing for the last seven, ate years, mexican national drug cartels are operating in the silicon valley. it's a location conducive to recruiting individuals to assist in the methamphetamine production process as well as

the distribution process. >> reporter: at this point we're being told by authorities that no rea.s have been made -- no arrests have been made. all we know two adults have been detained. it's an ongoing investigation. charges will be coming from this. there will be you drug charges and there's possibility there will be child endangerment charges going on. this story is still developing. we'll have more at 5:00 and 6:00. reporting live from san jose -- from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. a la fayette high school is on lockdown due to a threat posted on social media. the impacted school is acalanes high and they are giving no details on exactly what kind of threat was made. as you can see from this video from newschopper2, officers are at the school and we're told all of the students are safe.

acalanes high will stay on lockdown until the investigation is complete. an investigation this morning involving see cau deltic drugs -- psychodelic drugs led to the evacuation of a neighborhood on oregon street. sheriff's deputies were at a home to carry out a search warrant. while there, they came across an unknown substance they thought could be hazardous. a hazmat team was called in and determined the substance was not toxic. deputies did find pscyhodelic drugs in the home. two men and one woman were taken into custody. firefighters think a fire that killed an elderly woman in hayward may have been caused by an electrical issue. the fire started at 1:00 this morning at a home on townsend avenue near banberry street. a husband and wife who live in the home woke up to the smell of smoke and saw flames in the bedroom. they tried to put it out and then ran out of the house.

their elderly aunt in bed and is wheel chair bound was trapped in the bedroom. firefighters got her out of the house but were unable to resuscitate her. >> it's like a movie. you have all of these fire trucks out here. people running around. it's kind of tough. it kind of hurts, you know. >> a fire captain says in the room where the fire started there was a refrigerator, mike crow wave, stereo, fans and a -- microwave, stereo, fans and a heater all plugged into the same outlet. they believe that my have overloaded and sparked the fire. violence at schools across the nation is prompting a plan to bring armed police officers back to school campuses in one east bay city. we're live in concord where the mayor is getting involved. good afternoon, cristina. >> reporter: i just got off the phone with a mt. diablo school board member who said this would be an incredible asset to have. these armed police officers would be at concord high school

campuses as a precautionary measure in light of recent violence that's been seen at schools across the country. the district knows how valuable it is to have the officers because the district used to have five of emthem. when the -- five of them. they are teaming back the prage that would bring back three resource officers they would work on problems before they become big ones and they say they want to avoid violence that is recently scene like the shootings at uc santa barbara and seattle pacific university. >> with the police back on our campuses, we can assure that we're doing everything we can to avoid what we're seeing across the nation. >> you want your kids to feel safe at school. you want to not worry and anything that they can provide as a deterrent, i think is a good thing. >> reporter: the cost of the entire program is just over

$500,000. the city of concord and the mt. diablo school district are going to split the cost of that. they are gonna finalize the budgets the end of the month and they say they hope to have the school resource officers in place by the start of next year. cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. the request follows recent school shootings. one was just yesterday at seattle pacific university. classes there have been canceled today after a gunman killed one person and injured three others. police say the shooter is 26- year-old aaron ybarra in custody. he does not go to the school and police say he has no known connection to it. witnesses say he went into the engineering building yesterday armed with a knife and a shot gun and started shooting. as the gunman was reloading, police say a student working as a building monitor subdued him with pepper spray. and tonight, hundreds of people are expected to gather in san jose to remember a local teen skilled in the isla vista

rampage. george chen was one of six people killed in the massacre year the uc santa barbara cam pause two weeks ago. he -- campus two weeks ago. he graduated from leland high in 2012. the memorial service is scheduled for 8:00 tonight at the chinese church of christ south valley in san jose. there is a new twist in the criminal case of leland yee and raymond "shrimp boy" chow. ktvu obtained this video of a man breaking into the color drop printing shop in san francisco on may 25th. that was the same day it was contracted to copy legal documents which would then be turned over to defendants in the federal fraud case. one of the store's windows remains boarded up. chow's lawyer fears that sensitive materials may be compromised. >> and they left all of this information in their custody. they were obviously vulnerable to a break-in. when the break-in occurred, there was no federal followup. the fbi didn't get involved.

>> according to a police report a shop employee says none of the materials were stolen. the fbi says it still has all of the original evidence. chow faces money lawnerring charges and he's asking a judge to grant him bail. a man accused of trying to build a bomb in san francisco will be back in court 90 minutes from now as authorities consider moving him to a locked unit in san francisco. a judge has already granted a defense request for ryan chamberlain to undergo a mental health examination. he was the focus of a manhunt after fbi agents say they recovered bomb-making materials at his russian hill home last weekend. the materials included a model rocket engine, a powdery substance, ball bearings, screws and a circuit board. new at noon, it's happened again -- overnight in san francisco, vandals tipped over a pair of smart cars.

bewe first reported on the -- we first reported on this trend back in april when four were flipped and damaged in one night. alex savidge has more on one of the incidents overnight and how police are trying to track down the people doing this. >> reporter: they are small and light weight and smart cars have become a favorite target for vandals in san francisco. overnight this one with the it smart vanity plate was found flipped on its side in the twin peaks area, incredibly frustrating for the car's owner. >> a bunch of kids that have nothing to do, go find something else to do. do something positive. it's ridiculous. >> reporter: he says police knockedded on his door around 5:00 a.m. to tell him his smart car was in the middle of the street. as the tow truck took the car away, could you see a scratched up side door -- you could see a scratched up side door, a smashed window and a broken mirror. this is a series of crimes. back in april, four smart cars

were found flipped and propped up around the city. in one case, witnesses saw a group of people in hoodies running from the scene. he says whoever is doing this needs to realize it's not funny. >> how would they like to have their stuff vandalized? it's my stuff. >> reporter: after what happened here overnight, he tells me he's debating whether he wants to keep his smart car. if it means he has to worry about coming outside again -- >> the reason i have the car so i can park it anymore. it's amazing, i can go to any neighborhood and find a parking space within two minutes. now i have to worry about taking it somewhere. >> reporter: he says police were able to pull some fingerprints this morning. he's hoping they can help lead to the vandals who smashed up his smart car. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. remembering the allied soldiers who determined the beach at normandy. the special ceremonies in france for today's 70th d-day

official d-day ceremonies are taking place in france on this 70th anniversary of the invasion. ♪ >> french president francois hollande hosted leaders around the world at sword beach, the exact location where thousands of troops landed to free france from german occupation. prime minister prime minister joined queen elizabeth and others for the commemoration. hollande called each person involved in the d-day battle a hero to be remembered. president obama spoke with russian president vladimir putin today. both were at a lunch during d- day commemorations in france. you can see president obama on the left and president putin on the right of your screen. it was the first face-to-face

exchange between the two since the start of the crisis in ukraine. the white house says it was an informal conversation that lafltsed about 10, 15 minutes -- lasted about 10, 15 minutes. it's not known what they addressed. gilroy police arrested one. another man is at large. david galvez, they say, should be considered armed and dangerous. police believe he was involved in the death of doris knap. her body was found in her home on april 1st. police arrested her husband yesterday. we have a ktvu crew working to dig up more details on the case. we'll have the latest in a live report on the news at 5:00. we are also learning more information about a deadly officer-involved shooting in sunnyvale. police went to a home yesterday to arrest 53-year-old glen griggs. he's suspected of killing a woman he used to live with. police say griggs had a large gun and refused their orders to drop it. they say they had no choice but to shoot and kill him.

several law enforcement agencies will meet today to talk about ways to crack down on recent teen violence near b.a.r.t. stations. police say large groups of teenagers are intimidating and even attacking people in hayward and the bayfair mall parking lot in san leandro. then the suspects are using b.a.r.t. to get away. police say these wilding incidents are similar to planned attacks seen in other major cities. one man says his wife takes extra precaution when she commutes on b.a.r.t. >> she carries her little pepper spray and stuff like that. you shouldn't have to feel that way when you go out, to go do your job and fear for your life just to get to your job. >> at least five different agencies are expected to be at tonight's meeting. other agencies along the b.a.r.t. corridor are expected to join the task force once it gets underway. a teenaged boy is in the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in castro valley. it happened just before 3:00

this morning on lake chabot road. the pickup truck driver told the chp he was on his way to work and did not see anything unusual. then he realized, he hit something and pulled over. other drivers were on the road. someone called 911. investigators say none of the drivers they saw with saw the boy lying on the road. details on the teen's condition are not being released. muni service is back at full strength after a three-day sickout due to a contract dispute. muni officials said this morning that all 600 of the vehicles were out today. this comes one day before a critical meeting. tomorrow, the sides will meet with an arbitrator to try to settle the contract dispute. a nice day shaping up around the bay area away from the coast. mostly sunny skies and for most temperatures are running just a few degrees cooler than what we had yesterday. giving you a live look there over the east bay, mt. diablo where we have plenty of

well, good news on jobs is helping push the stock market higher. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is in record territory up 76. the s&p on track to set a new record which it has done in eight of the last 12 days. it's gained 1% for the third day running. well, the latest unemployment report is giving economists something to celebrate. for the fourth straight month, the economy added more than 200,000 jobs. additionally, the u.s. is now recovering the 8.6 million jobs lost during the precession. but conservative critics say lawmakers need to do more to

create quality instead of quantity when it comes to jobs. in the may report, 7 million people said they work part time because their hours were cut or they could not find full-time jobs. two state lawmakers have introduced a bipartisan bill in an etch art to attract tesla's $5 billion giga factory battery plant. the bill declares the intent to use financial incentives, changes to regulatory and environmental processes and other possible tools to expedite construction in california. governor brown supports the bill. tesla recently signaled that california could be in contention to land the plant. it would bring 6500 jobs to the state. but other states are trying to entice tesla to build the battery plant inside their borders. a missing dog with a very special connection to his owner is back home today. arthur was reunited with his

therapy dog named love at the san leandro marina. that's where the dog went missing. love was returned. the man saw a news report about the missing dog. both were overjoyed at the reunion. >> i will never let fer go. i'm getting her microchipped and a collar and a custom life goes on love bug sweater or shirt or whatever. >> you are sure this is her. >> i'm 100% this is love. >> he's been paralyzed since he was robbed and shot seven years ago. he got love as a therapy dog to help deal with his injury. there was talk of a reward for whoever returned the dogs. it's unclear if that's been delivered. and new at noon, an injured falcon is getting a second lease on life thank toos a local wildlife group a couple of hours ago. the lindsey wildlife released it back in the wild near
