now his children and their mother are missing. police officers came to the house on 16th street before 8:00 a.m. this morning and found a man was shot to death inside. ktvu's amber lee is here where the search is on for the children and their mother. you just spoke with police. i just came out of a briefing with police. neighbors found the father shot dead in the home on the 1600 block of 16th street. police are treating this as a homicide investigation with the missing mom with three children. mom is 35 years old. children are 6 years old, 12 years old, and a two-year-old. police say they are not calling mom a suspect because they don't know what happened. mom does not live with the children and the father and the dad had custody of the children. i asked what the nature of the

relationship was and had there been trouble between them? >> we know the father had custody of the children. i don't know. we are doing background information to see what the relationship was like. i don't have further information at this time. [ indiscernible ] >> not that i am aware of. >> reporter: police say they have exhausted all leads and they are releasing the photos in the hopes someone has information that will help them find them. that is the latest, amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. the bay area broke records today as 100-degree temperatures settled inland. ktvu's chief meteorologist bill martin is live now where you are tracking the highest temperatures and a cool off that is beginning tonight. >> that's right. cooling already on the peninsula in san francisco.

that live camera shows 57 degrees at ocean beach. antioch is 105 degrees. you see that spread over 40 degrees between coast and inland. 40 degrees for 40 miles. these are highs from today national weather service official numbers. here is the record that was tied. 105 degrees. 104 fairfield. high temperatures along the bay, hayward, oakland 74. san jose 88. temperatures tomorrow cool off. we talked about it. what i am tracking right now, these are current temperatures. winds are starting to come in this direction, there is fog carried into the bay tonight. temperatures drop off significantly this week. when i come back i will get specific with the days that will be the coolest and how long we can expect the cool off to last. it wasn't so much the fire but the heat that lead to injuries for two firefighters.

a fire broke out in a home after 1:00 p.m. when it was about 100 degrees outside. fire officials called for two alarms to get extra personnel and allow firefighters to get breaks. two firefighters suffered heat injuries. they are expected to be okay. five suspicious 5 over the weekend in livermore put residents on edge and firefighters on alert. ktvu's noelle walker is in livermore where we learned they may have found the person responsible. >> reporter: i talked to a source at livermore police department. i am told there is a juvenile under arrest for the string of arson fires. i am standing at the latest location. you can see scorched fence, earth. show people how close this is to houses. this is as close as we have seen these fires burning. this would be the 6th fire set

in three days. here is what i know. this happened at 2:00 p.m. officers were on patrol and they saw a fire department responding here. they followed the fire department and they hung around to see if there was somebody else watching. they saw. a ups driver and a juvenile here. started questioning the juvenile biand saw -- boy and saw a lighter. asked him about that and he admitted to the other fires that were set. we know from talking to the fire department that this person who was setting the fires may have been watching the fire department at work. >> the individual or individuals then set another fire. yes. >> reporter: while -- >> while we were fighting the first fire. >> reporter: so the juvenile is under arrest right now.

she 17 years old. he is from livermore and according to my source, not known to the police department. they don't believe he has any other record. he admitted to the other fires and later admitted to being involved in this fire. right now he is being questioned by the police department. this is the first that has been set during the day in this string of arson fires. the others were all set later at night. which helped benefits firefighters to put it out quickly. they kept it -- stopped it just before it reached homes on either side. reporting live, noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news. firefighters in san jose are busy at the scene of an apartment fire. they got the call about 4:45 p.m. these are pictures taken by news chopper 2. the building is on shadow park place off highway 101 and the east

capital express way. no injuries are reported but firefighters are having to cope with temperatures close to 100 degrees. parent's nightmare a 2-year- old killed during a trip to san francisco after a statue falls on him in the fisherman's wharf. ktvu's david stevenson tells us this isn't the first time police paid a visit to that store. >> reporter: police obtained surveillance video from the art gallery to aid their investigation. sidewalks outside fisherman's wharf stores in san francisco are usually lined with merchandise. not today after a boy died here friday morning. >> young child had a statue topple ovon him. -- over on him. >> kayson shelton was claiming a statue similar to this one -- climbing a statue similar to this one. the boy died at san francisco

>> we are hearing from family members of the little boy. >> he was full of life. like any young life. always running. sweet spirit. always smiling. >> he is his uncle. the family is relying on their faith to help them get through this difficult time. the family arrived home on saturday. family says there has been a huge outpouring of support. new at 6:00 p.m. police radios cutting in and out hindering communication between police officers and headquarters and it has been going on for 48 hours. the police department is trying to figure out what led to a communications break down with their police radio system over the weekend. ktvu's allie rasmus explains what went wrong. >> reporter: caution tape marked the site of a shooting investigation in berkeley

saturday night. after police arrived here their radio system broke down. >> garbled or you couldn't hear at all. dead spots. >> reporter: police officers association president says it is normal for audio to drop from time to time but saturday was different. >> this was big enough. it was system wide. [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: at 8:30 p.m. last night when officers responded to a call about a robbery it happened again. >> gone to a robbery call. difficulty hearing, communicating -- [ talking at the same time ] >> reporter: police department spokes woman says workers have been trouble shooting. >> identifying the problem. we are still trying to determine what is going on. >> reporter: it may not be on

the city's end. the system is part of a regional network. >> it works here and contra costa county. >> they have been in touch with the agency that over sees the system. >> trying to determine if there is a problem on their side or our equipment. >> and so far police haven't had any problems with their radios today. breaking news now. news chopper 2 is over the scene of an officer involved shooting in antioch. police shot and injured an armed suspect this afternoon. you see a number of police on the scene. yellow crime scene tape. it started when police made contact with a group of people a block away from the contra costa county fairgrounds at 4:15 p.m. this afternoon. one person had a gun and tried to run away. as they gave chase one police officer shot the suspect.

the suspect was taken to the hospital that are not life threatening. we have breaking news from east oakland. there has been a shooting and a child was hurt. police tell us a half hour ago it happened on international boulevard. people in two cars started shooting at each other and a three-year-old child was grazed but we don't have anymore information. a bus was also hit by gunfire. we have a crew on the way and we are working to learn more. credit card thieves are targeting an unlikely place, where they are striking and getting ahold of your financial information. >> the bay area water agency preparing to raise rates to get customers to conserve. ♪ ♪

doctor accused of killing his wife appeared in court today for the first time. the doctor was officially charged with murder following his arrest last thursday in gilroy. investigators say his wife was found at the family home back in april. they say she had severe upper body trauma and died from her injuries. the bail is $1 million. authorities are still looking for a 59-year-old, he is an acquaintance who prosecutors also charged with murder in connection with this case. new at 6:00 p.m. creative thieves who are after your information have a new target in the bay area. they are using the kiosks that are located inside local post offices to skim and steal your

credit card information. what to look out for and how you can protect yourself. >> reporter: kiosks like this one are convenient. >> saves time. >> reporter: but could cost you a lot more than a book of stamps. crooks are attaching skimming devices on stamp vending machines. the same devices they used on atm and gas pumps. >> what they are looking for is all of the electronic avenues. >> reporter: he says it is rare but crooks have targeted postal kiosks in the bay area. they caught someone installing a skimming device. the crime landed him a 17 month sentence. >> federal felony. $10,000 reward. if you are engaged in this activity we will be looking. >> reporter: they check the machines and there is a surveillance camera attached to

doing. she says her phone records back her story but what she is letting police sort out is whether she ran the red light. after a violation last year and yesterday's incident they are looking into getting her a driver. californians aren't cutting back on their water report. governor jerry brown declared a drought and called on californians to reduce their water use by 20%. most users are falling short of the goal. san jose water use increased in february and april. east bay mud customers trimmed by 3%. in san francisco water use dropped by 8%. ktvu channel 2 news took the information and contacted the water agencies. we found out east bay mud is moving forward with conversation. users cut by back 10% but tomorrow they will meet and are expected to improve a rate

got some bad news yesterday. um, phil's mom died. it wasn't unexpected, he was with her, and she went very peacefully in her sleep. she and i had a special connection. we all did. but mostly me. she said i was just like her. was she weirdly competitive, too? the whole family is going down to florida tomorrow to be with phil for the service. it's such a relief. i can feel how much he needs me right now. there they are. hey, guys. oh! oh, you brought my neck pillow. i missed you so much. phil, i'm so sorry. thanks. grace was such a kind and whimsical soul. the different animals she put antlers on for christmas cards-- inspired.
