firefighters put out hot spots after the latest in a series of suspicious fires that has neighbors on edge. good evening i'm ken wayne. frank somerville is off tonight. >> and i'm julie haener. 10 fires and all considered suspicious. firefighters are asking for help before someone gets hurt. the fires have been clustered in two areas, eight in the south side of the city. police have arrested teenagers but since then two other fires have been sparked out in a

park. ken wayne has more where a fire hit close to home. >> reporter: you can see behind me the blackened area where these two fires burned had it not been for this fire break, this barren area and quick work of firefighters it's easy to see how homes could have been lost. >> reporter: this is video of livermore's latest suspicious fire shot yesterday. after firefighters had knocked it down. a day later, livermore pleasanton firefighters were still taking care of hot spots and the fire, still the talk within neighbors. >> it easily traveled 300 or 400 feet within minutes. >> reporter: rayback called 911 on what was the second fire of the day. both started within hours of each other and almost the same spot. >> there were no other obvious

causes other than being a set fire. >> reporter: battalion chief tessa had been busy. despite dry grass and steady wind, the two fires in this parkway were not large due to what ralph calls amazingly fast work by firefighters. >> it cam within 15 feet of my house and you guyed saved it. thank you, thank you very much. and the fire department says it and the police have stepped up patrols in the area. in livermore, ken pritchett, ktvu news. firefighters were kept busy battling several fires today. one broke out in aloni property and pine street near the

fremont foothills. news chopper flew over the scene. in marin county, firefighters are keeping a very close eye on this fire burning in samuel p. taylor park off st. francis boulevard. 200 firefighters were all called in to battle the flames. right now this fire is 80% contained. the fire broke out overnight. now to a sexual assault investigation in oakland. it comes after reports that a 13-year-old girl was gang raped. we go to jana katsuyama. you spoke to both police and the girl's mother this evening. >> reporter: julie, police are telling me they've made no arrest in this investigation. the girl's mother told me tonight that her daughter is very upset and scared. the girl told police she was walking here on the 9200 block of corral road when she says a

car pulled up next to her. >> there were several strangers in the car and at gunpoint they directed her to get into the car. once she was in the car, she had been sexually assaulted. >> reporter: the girl told police that the three men took her from corral road and drove around. finally dropping her off around 10 miles away on the 5500 block of dover street. a few blocks from the hospital. a citizen called the girl and he called police around 3:00 p.m. >> the victim did go to the hospital for treatment. >> reporter: the girl's mother told ktvu she and her daughter are too scared to speak on camera. but said what these men to my daughter is horrific. i pray that no other child experiences this and that no other mother has to walk in these shoes. today police issued a public safety advisory with detailed on the reported assault. many residents are concerned. >> there have been reports of rapes in the area. there's a lot of crime in this

area in general. >> reporter: officers say the girl described the three suspects as african american men. the first 17 to 19 years old about 6'1", medium complex and build. the second 20 to 25 years old. 6'5", light complex. the third suspect is described as 17 to 19 years old. 6'2" with a light complex and thin build. police say the girl says the suspect's vehicle was a newer model burgundy four door sedan with a light colored exterior. police are telling me that they plan to check for surveillance video and the girl's mother tonight says she just hopes that someone will call in with a tip. reporting live in oakland, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. new information on the arrest of a san mateo county judge joseph scott. the results of blood alcohol tests are back this week showing a level of 1.2.

scott was pulled over in woodside for swerving on may 21st. he's the second ranking judge and is expected to make an appearance in his own courthouse on august 5th. san mateo county attorney finally have a suspect in custody and 25-year-old homicide case. the sheriff's office says 45- year-old gabriel o'neil was arrested in brisbane on monday. that's after new lab work links him to the 1989 murder of 27- year-old sheila lorane hatcher. she was sexually assaulted and suffered blunt trauma. her body was found in a ravine. a stand off ended peacefully. a man wanted for felony crimes barricaded himself inside a home on washington avenue and castro street around 4:30 this afternoon. you can see the street was blocked off with a heavy police presence. police told neighbors to stay inside their home as officers worked to get the man to surrendered. that happened just before 6:00 p.m. happening now, u.s. army

sergeant bowe bergdahl is expected to arrive in texas. he was freeed from the taliban in afghanistan almost two weeks ago in exchange for top taliban leaders who had been held at guantanamo. officials are keeping a tight lid on his condition and return. the u.s. is evacuating americans in northern iraq as a crisis there gets worse. sunni insurgents are on the move with baghdad and taking control of large areas in the country. the insurgents are not finding enough resistance. president obama says iraq prime minister amalake must do more to stop the militants. the president is also considering a number of options. >> i don't rule out anything because we do have a stake in

a person was killed by an amtrak train today just north of the richmond station. officials say the person was on the tracks. and was hit by a westbound capital corridor train this afternoon. the train was on its way from sacramento to oakland. it stopped very close to the richmond station so passengers were able to get off and continue their journey by b.a.r.t. trains in the area were delayed during the investigation. this is the season for graduation, a happy time for families but it's also a dangerous time for teenagers to be on the road. new at 10:00 tonight, amber lee

hills lane. the cause of this fire the still under investigation. no injuries have been reported. with california still in the midst of a drought there's extra concerns about the fourth of july celebrations and the potential for fire danger that could be sparked by fireworks. today santa clara county fire and medical agencies gathered near milpitas to make the point. they showed the extremely dry hill conditions in an effort to raise awareness on the hazards of illegal fireworks. >> it's not an ordinary fire. the fuel as you can see around us are drier at this time of year than they've ever been. >> reporter: the santa clara county burn center says every year nearly 10,000 people crowd emergency rooms nationwide from injuries related to fireworks. the miami dade attorney's office ruled there was not enough evidence to charge collin kaepernick and two other players with crimes after an encounter with a woman in a hotel room. a woman went to police and

claimed she woke up at the hospital after partying with kaepernick and the other players. police say there's no evidence that any crime was committed. kaepernick tweeted he is glad the issue is resolved. just last week he signed a six year $126 million contract. a utah woman has been indicted for embezzling money from symantec. prosecutors say she paid for vacations, cars, and other personal expenses with company credit cards and phony expense reports out of the utah office. she could get up to 620 years in prison. the chief executive of tesla motors announced he is opening the patents for all to see. musk says any company that wants to make their products based on te -- tesla's

lose. >> reporter: ken, you can see the designated dog area outlined in yellow. it's essentially the area behind me. this area will not be fenced off just signs will be posted. the problem is there's a near by school and playground and that has some families not too happy. it's a popular park where families, bikers and walkers roam freely and soon so will dogs. in two weeks the city of mountain view starting a new program allowing pooches off their leashes in certain areas of the park. >> i think there's people doing it any way now. >> reporter: many homes in mountain view do not have large yards and a recent survey found most were in favor of the idea yet not everyone likes it especially since the dog area will not be fenced off. >> i would rather them be in a fenced area. >> he's making a new friend.

>> that changes my mind. >> how come? >> just what happened there, there's too many breeds of species mingling together. >> you've seen dogs, they can get aggressive with each other. they can bite each other and i've seen it because we've taken them to the back park here in mountain view before. it's always been this way. it's a little unsettling. >> the city says they understand the concerns that's why they're trying it out for a year. those with concerns don't have to be at the park when the dogs run free. >> the dog owners have to be responsible for their dogs. if i was introducing my dog to a new group i would not just automatically bring them in and let them off the leash. >> reporter: parents say they can't help but want to hold their children a little closer now when they go to this park. park officials are planning to monitor this park to make sure dog owners are following the

rules or they could be sited. the new dog policy will apply at cooper, eagle, and questa park. overnight camping is coming toen a end at a popular san mateo county camp site because of the drought. san mateo county park officials say water levels there are too low and algea is blocking an intack pipe. they plan to evaluate the water situation to see if it improves enough to allow camping. ford owners will soon receive a check in the mail. that's because the company is paying drivers for misstating their mileage. the 2013 and 2014 models of the c max hybrid and energy.
