7:03 pm
about how, you know, for many years, let's get into the bull pen. get that pitch count up for the starter to get into the bull pen, because that's usually where the weakness was. now you got guys coming out of the bull pen throwing 96, 97 miles an hour. i mean, bull pen, built now and general managers recognize you've got to have a strong bull pen. got to have that sixth, eighth inning guy. i'm not so sure sitting around taking pitch, working counts. i mean, it doesn't have the same impact it used to. >> justin: speaking with a longtime scout last week, and he was talking about pitchers throwing harder. but having less command. would you agree with that? >> eric: i don't know. i mean, to make a statement like that, i mean, he must have numbers that support that. again, if you, the harder you throw, you can get away without having the commitment.
7:04 pm
you can make a mistake. at 90 miles an hour nowadays, you can't make a mistake in location's you can get away with it at 96, 97. so -- the harder the throw is, obviously, probably don't have the command. >> justin: what about guys, i mean, look at guys in the bull pen. i think a lot of teams have figured out that you don't have to spend a lot of money for the bull pen. you can build that up to your farm system. get these guys that throw hard. almost seems like relief pitchers became like running backs in football. life span not long for your career? >> eric: it's not very long and i think also that players, because of the economics, you don't want to get into that six, seven, really or eighth winning guy. you want to be the closer or you want to be a starter. you know, there are some guys that are earning some money that are that seventh or eighth
