officers and the suspect. morning zone 2 starts right now -- mornings on 2 starts right now. welcome to mornings on 2. it is sunday june 15th. happy father's day. >> good morning i'm ken in for mike. let's take a quick look at our weather. >> good morning to you and happy father's day. our temperatures will be falling giving you a live look here. we have the foreground in the backdrop the city of san francisco. the sun is up but unlike yesterday not shining on everybody. let's take a look at the satellite view. we have a mix of low clouds back in the forecast, high clouds as well. you can see over the bay area, you have to get into the north to get partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies a lot of us with built in sunshine and along the coastline we're sopped in with the low clouds and the fog. that in addition to the on shore breeze back in full force, take a look fair field

reporting 26 miles an hour gust. it is a windy 1. 32 miles per hour the gusts reported there. for some of us not bad at all, the key here that on shore breeze, strengthening the low clouds back, those 2 items tell us it's going to be a cooler day. 57 in antioch. 56 walnut creek. upper 40s for nevada. 54 jose, cloudy conditions yesterday we had sunshine on the coast, not happening for some of us even into the afternoon today. low 60s an mostly cloudy the entire day. 64, partly cloudy to partly sunny in san francisco. low to mid 80s for our warmest locations and again going to be breezy for some. here is a look at what you can expect for today. i'll show you what the coolest day is going to arrive coming up. >> new this morning, the off ramp has re-opened after being shutdown following a deadly crash involving a pedestrian.

ktvu has more of what we're learning about the accident. what the city is doing to try to cut down on traffic deaths, ally. >> reporter: there have been 8 pedestrian faulty s this year. the most recent 1 happened at around 1:00 this morning. accident happened at the 5th street off ramp near harrison street. you can see some of the crime scene tape left over from the investigation this morning when the street was shutdown. we're still waiting to get more information which investigating this crash. we don't know if the victim is a man or woman, he or she was near the crosswalk at this intersection when a toyota suv coming down the 5th street off ramp struck the victim killing them or her. we don't know if speed was a factor. pedestrian accidents are an on going issue. 60% of the city pedestrian fatalities occur at just 6th person of the city streets. here is a map of what are called high injury corridors in the department of public help

and reporting release this spring. most of those high injury corridors are in the south of market, china town, now there's a city wide effort underway to reduce the number of pedestrian accidents. pedestrian safety group called vision 0 is spearheading that effort. their goal is to eliminate traffic debt entirely by 2024. they plan to do that by improving streets and sidewalks to increase safety, along with tougher enforcement of dangerous driving. san francisco police have ramped up traffic enforcement. they issued 11,000 traffic citations in february, that's more than 50% decrease from the year before. coming up in the next hour of warning zone 2, we'll hear more from pedestrians and the need to make the streets of san francisco safer. live in san francisco channel 2 news. >> a nine-year-old girl who spent the night wandering in the woods is back safe with her family this morning after a massive search. >> thank you for everybody who

looked for me and how much you voted. >> she was carried away in her father's arms after being found by a pair of cyclist yesterday morning. she wandered away friday afternoon at sale yule pete taylor state park. they helped to look for her. >> the search for crossing families to rethink how they prepare for a camping trip. ktvu patty lee talked to a park ranger about what parents can tell their children to stay safe. >> the miller family is making more of the campfire return to normalcy after nerve wracking night that involved hamas serve search. the families cleared out camp site in 40 feet away. >> they'll try to prepare kids for. >> they called the incident a learning incident. >> they have the opportunities to plan. >> they had to take care of

them. >> park ranger derrick shelly calls it a wake up call. >> this is the last thing you think about. >> shelly sits down the families are getting ready to camp. samuel pete taylor is booked several days a week and preparation should go beyond buying supplies. >> they should have a plan that gives a checklist of what to do if lost. >> once you realize you are lost stay in 1 place so that we can find you and start shouting for help and definitely be on the listen for other people that are calling out your name looking for you. >> shortly after the child was reunited with her family. she and her husband talked to their boys. >> what happens if you get lost. >> stay put. >> stay put. >> that was patty lee reporting. and 2 and a half miles from her family camp site. they were in the county visiting from new mexico. >> two officers are recovering after being injured in a shoot out. it happened just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon, investigators say a bureau of land management ranger stopped

a suspect in a rural area north of nevada city and then called for back up. a california highway patrol officer responded. the confrontation escalated to shoot out. the land management ranger and suspect were both hit by gunfire. the chp officer was also hurt. >> it's unclear that the officer that was injured, was injured from a result of moving in a dynamic situation or if he was actually struck by gunfire. >> the chp officer suffered a laceration to his leg. the ranger was shot in the shoulder and the suspect was also injured. both were flown to the hospital and both are expected to survive. it is still unclear exactly what led to the shooting but the fbi is now investigating. 15-year-old boy is being called a hero after he rescued his neighbor from burning department. the fire started at about 7:30. firefighters say it started in a bottom unit and then quickly spread. 15-year-old said he saw the fire and ran to help his neighbor who is in a

wheelchair. >> the house really on fire. so i looked down and broke the extinguisher up there and i ran upstairs. so i picked him up and took him out. i went down there. >> is that the guy. was he the 1 in the wheelchair. >> yes. >> no 1 was hurt in the fire and that cause is still under investigation. >> later today san francisco's glide memorial church. the reverend will host the service. he has many ties to the bay area. she went to san francisco's mission high school. she died last month at the age of 86. today's service starts at 1:00 this afternoon at glide memorial church. san jose man is facing charges of indecent exposure after exposing himself to 3 young girls. police say it happened just before 5:00 yesterday afternoon at shadow cliff's park in me santon. the father of at least 1 of the girls heard what happened and again following the suspect, 31-

year-old jose through the park. park police then joined the pursuit and arrested him. he was transported to the jail. and san bruno police are looking for a man who claim to have an explosive device while trying to rob a jewelry store. police released these images from a security camera. they say on thursday the man attempted to rob the store on the avenue. but when he threatened to detonate the device. the clerk told him the police were on the way and he escaped. he's described as a man in his 20s with a medium build. >> 500 homes have been evacuated because of the growing wild fire. it is burning in current county which is about 50 miles northeast. the fire started friday night and is only about 5% contained. more than ailing hundred acres have burned. people in the area are being warned about the poor air quality because of the smoke. meanwhile firefighters across the state are preparing for the fire season ahead. tomorrow morning it's going to

be holding a helicopter off the road. it starts at 9:00 in the morning and is expected to last several hours. a race across the country begins this morning with start near the golden gate bridge and won't end until runners reach baltimore, maryland. 26 runners are participating an event that raises money and support for young adults effected by the disease. the group will run 4,000 miles over the next 42 days. this is the 2nd year the only cancer fund for young adults has sponsored that event. the group hopes to raise $750,000. world cup fever has hit the bay area and fans have great places to enjoy the games. the jumbo tron was fired up yesterday in san francisco's civic center plaza for free viewing all day long. they had cause to celebrate with the 3-0 victory. there's also outdoor viewing of world cup matches in san jose pleasant and things are shot

and parked. both will hold viewings tomorrow during the usa 1st world cup game. that game is scheduled to start at 3:00. here is a quick look at the matches happening today switzerland will take ontic question door at 9:00 this morning. and argentina will play at 3:00. many companies in silicone valley are offering workers a park during the world cup twitter and linked in are among companies airing matches in their offices during the next month. they're also encouraging employees to follow the action. electronic arts which makes the 2014 world cup brazil video game is hosting viewing parties at his offices as well. most of this year's matches are scheduled during office hours here in california. >> well, it's 1 of san francisco's most famous street but not everyone loves the attention. the tellers of 1 of the painted ladies had a drop selling price by hundreds of thousands of dollars just to close that

this morning defense secretary chuck has ordered a u.s. aircraft carrier to the persian gulf as president obama considers possible military options in iraq. he says the uss george h.w bush is carrying missiles of reaching iraq. the move comes after groups claim to have taken over much of the northern part of the country including the 2nd largest country. they have also threaten to take baghdad. he said he has not sent combat troops to iraq but considering

air strikes. barbara lee is warning against any military involvement in iraq and that includes sending warships to the region. she's calling on president obama to seek a political solution to the glowing insurgency. lee was the only member of congress who voted against the authorization after the september 11 attack. she also voted against the invasion of iraq a year later. >> once you bomb and once you invade a country and engage in military strikes, you don't know what follows, the unintended consequences could be very dire. >> lee says she will push for congressional debate on any new use of force in iraq going forward. >> los angeles police officer who was shot and killed last weekend has been laid to rest.

22-year-old john was working as security desk monitor when he pepper sprayed and tackled a gunman on campus. one person died and 2 others were wounded in the attack. the suspected gunman has been charged with murder. two teenagers are facing charges for allegedly all of a suddenning a massive school massacre. investigators say the 16-year- old and 7 teen-year-old boys hope to become the most notorious mass murders of all time. they say the boys studied the 1999 columbine shooting to look for mistakes so that they could avoid them. >> they had studied the school

clouds out there. we have low clouds hugging parts of the coast. we have midlevel clouds, high clouds level clouds, all due to this system here and marine layer is almost twice as thick as it was yesterday, so yesterday it was about a thousand feet, this morning it's 1500 close to 2,000 feet, so cooler air being transported into the bay and all the way through the delta this morning. e showed you at the top of the hour, those winds are gusting through areas like fair field, concord reporting very breezy conditions we have fog and low clouds in areas like ocean beach, half moon bay. it's mostly sunny right around the golden gate bridge. i saw a few live shots earlier. but, again, we've got that cooler cloudy day expected along the coastline and some of our inland locations getting into the low to mid 80s for today that is perfect weather for some of us. >> giving us a look at different part of the map and winds cranking 20 miles per hour. we have 18 miles per hour in

hayward, a half moon bay reporting 18 miles per hour gusts as well. san jose we have southeasterly breeze and it's a light 1. not everybody feeling the wind but some of us definitely and some of us will continue to feel that breeze, the on shore breeze will be quite strong along the coast and perhaps just inside the bay through the delta. breezy for some. a cooler day as well. this is where we were on saturday. here is where we are for today. and the coolest day looks to be monday it's of the going to last too long. but again he will feel it for today. to the east bay upper 60s. along the shoreline we have 80s

of the parade people stayed for a festival that featured music and family activities. an francisco's pride weekend is set for june 28 and 29th. sacramento king showed their support with thirty-second video posted the video shows the court slowly being lit up with all of the colors of the rainbow. the king dancers and king's mass scott also intended the prized festivities. expanded that game to the east coast and he had new yorkers scrambling around central park and brooklyn park looking for envelopes. each 1 was filled with a 50- dollar bill and silver dollar. one young man found his envelope between 2 rocks.

attend a city council's meeting next tuesday, we'll ask city leaders to district attorney's office conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into this death. reporting at half moon bay, ktvu channel 2 news. >> and oakland man already wanted on 2 warrants is now facing more charges after police say he caused a 4 car crash. just before 7:00 last night got reports of a reckless driver in a red car on westbound i-80 just before berkeley. shortly after that call there was a crash involved in the car and 3 others, 1 person suffered major injuries police say the driver of the car 15-year-old tried to run but was stopped by an off duty officer who witnessed the crash. he's now facing felony hit-and- run and felony dui charges he had arrest warrants for weapons violation and kidnapping. a man was killed after he crashed into a power pole and got trapped by the live wires it happened last night at arnold drive and west avenue.

police say after the driver hit the power pole, the wires and transform oil came down across the car. paramedics and the fire department could not get to him until the power. the driver was 62 years ole but have not yet released his name and the cause is still under investigation. >> san francisco's proposal to increase minimum wage will be on the november ballot. many people say it won't do much to close the city's income gap. the proposal will gradually raise the minimum wage from $10.74 to $15 by 28 teen. many reporters are -- 20 18. critics say be the time it reaches $15 per hour it still won't be enough to live on. officials are considering a plan to keep doctors medical center open just as an emergency room. the times report many doctors and nurses are opposed which

last night investigators that -- the fire broke out on friday around noon. it burned more than 16 acres before crews were able to get the upper hand. investigators say they found ignition points in several day areas leading them to believe that the fire was intentionally set. on east bay fire station is on its way to becoming the 1st in the country to provide health care at the station. yesterday was the ground breaking ceremony for the new south hi ward fire station. station no. 7 was recently rebuilt. >> we'll give people into a lower cost setting. into a lower facility as opposed to everyone going to the emergency. we're going to.

>> security measures put into place after shooting 2 years ago at the university of southern california seem to be having an impact on campus crime. according to los angeles times, property crimes on campus dropped significantly since the changes were made. the university now limits public access to the university ground in the evening that the school also installed more security cameras and added fingerprint scanners inside the dorms. in 2124 people were shot and injured outside of halloween party on campus. the gunman was really -- recently sented to life in prison. a fantasy 5 lottery tickets has been sold. california lottery officials say the ticket was purchased at the news and liquor on 4th street. it matched 5 of the numbers from thursday's night drawing. officials say the winner has yet to come forwad has 180 days from the day of the drawing to claim the prize. they encourage winners to sign the back of their tickets and keep them at safe place. >> one of santran cisco's

: drink service has resumed. workers walked off the job early yesterday morning after the southeast transportation authority failed to reach a contract with hundreds of engineers an electricians the strike shutdown 13 train lines connecting philadelphia to the suburb, philadelphia airport and new jersey. president obama created an emergency board over the weekend to mediate the contract dispute. it's offering service this morning after contract talks between the drivers broke down. they have been in negotiations with the driver's union since february. the 2 sides are in awes over pay and pension. drivers are prohibited from striking but called a sick out last week that disrupted service. the current labor contract expires at the end of the

month. there is no set date for talks to resume. and tomorrow san francisco mayor ed lee and the board of supervisors president are celebrating a milestone in construction of the new subway. officials say the 1st tunnel machine known has tunneled under market street and existing park. the events is schedule today get underway tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. the construction on the central subway is scheduled to wrap up in 29 teen. and mosquito born virus that has sickened thousands of people has made its way to the quite. it is called the virus, it's called chick pea it's called in the caribbeans until africa and southeast asia. the cdc says 39 cases have been reported in the united states so far this year including 1 in california. many of the victims that recently traveled to the caribbean health officials, rather, say the virus is not usually deadly but it can cause severe joint pain. there is no back pain for

treatment. and disease that reached epidemic levels in california may have made its way into east bay school. reports many parents are now concerned about their kids' health. >> the flash of the pool found far better than the sound spreading across the county. commonly known as whooping cough has reached epidemic levels statewide with 162 cases reported to the public health this year. the school district sent a letter to parents warning about possible exposure in school. >> i'm telling you, it catch it and when their kids are sharing the systems -- symptoms they'll get treated right away. >> the disease effort says it's cyclical and climbing and could having towards another peak.

charges of decent exposure after exposing himself to 3 young girls. police say it happened just before 5:00 yesterday afternoon and shadow cliffs park in me santon. they say the father of at least 1 of the girls heard what happened and began following the suspect. 31-year-old jose through the park. now, park police then joined the pursuit and arrested him. he was transported to the jail. san bruno police are looking for a man who claimed to have an explosive device while trying to rob a jewelry store. police released these images from a security camera. they say on thursday, the man attempted to rob the store on the avenue. but when he threatened to detonate the device, the clerk told him the police were ton way and he escaped. he described as a man in noise 20s 5 feet 6 inches tall. >> 500 homes have been evacuated because of a growing wild fire. it's burning which is about 50 miles northeast of bakers field. that fire started friday night and is only about 5% contained

this fatal crash and the driver they say could face dwi charge. just before 7:00 last night chp received reports of a reckless driver in a red car on i-80 just before berkeley. shortly after there was a crash involving four vehicles. police say the deliver of the car, 50-year-old robert blackwell, tried to run but was stopped by an off-duty officer. blackwell is now facing felony hit and run. after the driver hit the power pole the wires and transformers came down around the car. paramedics could not get to him
