sentenced july 25. today prosecutors said he pleaded no contest oo stabbing smith. he -- to stabbing smith. he is expected to be sentenced next month. two brush fires burned near homes. investigators plan to be back at the scene tomorrow. the first started friday and investigators think it may have been set in a couple different locations. a second fire burned yesterday off of highway 101. investigators are looking into a report of a car parked along the highway at the time of the fire. >> at this point in time there is nothing to connect them with earlier fires but it is a concern and something the investigators will be looking into. >> one fire was damaged in the fires, anyone who may have seen anything suspicious is asked to call the fire department or the sheriff's department.

a large landscaping truck sparked a grass fire today in san jose. we told you about the fire at noon. firefighters say a contractor's truck was unloading bark when it became stuck. the fire start said in the piles of the bark. 50 firefighters battled the flames. no one was hurt. wildfire in the sequoia national forest is -- has now burned several homes. it started several days ago and only 10% contained. three homes have been destroyed and one damaged. however at least two of those homes are abandon. hundreds of people have been told to leave the area because another thousand homes are at risk. still no word tonight on what started the fire. new at 6:00 p.m. we showed you how difficult it could be for fire engines to navigate the streets of san francisco. now a compromise to make it

because of the drought. pilots and ground crews were training today. they practiced several maneuvers, including using portable tanks. they could bring water into rural remote areas where there is no water source. >> we expect that our engines and helicopters may have to go further out for water. so using the equipment like the portable tank is very important that the firefighters are proficient in using that. >> this year has been very active and with the drought they expect it to be a long fire season. windy conditions today and that makes for big concern for fire danger. 54 miles per hour gusts.
