"mornings on 2" starts right now. it is 7:00. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. steve is off today. but rosemary is over there. take a look. plenty of cloud cover. low clouds at the coast. high clouds for most of us away from the coastline. you have to get well north into areas like santa rosa even to see mostly clear skies. napa reporting a little bit of fog and the visibility tough. right now at the airport in napa. we have an onshore breeze. it's quite weak. it's weaker than what we had a little while ago. temperatures today a lot like yesterday. 50 in novato. 53 san francisco.

upper 50s, oakland, walnut creek. 60 degrees in antioch. that's been the standing number in antioch all morning long. now that the sun is up and shining, temperatures will reginn to rebound. we have low clouds remaining along the coastline. the high clouds will continue. for the second half, a lot of 60s at the coast, 70s around the bay. 80s and low 90s for the far inland spots. one last shift, 69 for san francisco, mid-70s in hayward. upper 80s in areas like morgan hill, concord, livermore, you will go to 90. antioch you will go to 90 as well. temperatures will fall off for the first day of summer. will have a look at your bay area weekend coming up. good morning, sal. rosemary, good morning. >> a couple of serious things have happened for the morning commute. let's get into it. certain commutes are still okay. bay bridge. that's a 20-minute drive time into san francisco with no major delays. we're also looking at the commute on the san mateo bridge and that looks pretty good

heading out to the high rise. it's about an 11-minute drive. the bay bridge was a 20-minute drive as i mentioned. the times are not as robust as other days. this is a surprise now. 580 traffic in the livermore valley which is one of the worse commutes in the area. just gonna refresh drive times. it said 28 minutes. it's still 28 minutes. that's much better than normal. we want to update the developing news. a terrible early-morning crash is having a huge impact on traffic getting up to highway 13. ktvu's tara moriarty is right there and she has new information from police. tara? >> reporter: and police are classifying this as a hit and run. they say the driver took off right after the accident happened. now, we want to let you know that the westbound direction of tunnel road is open but the eastbound direction is still shut down. you can see the mangled

corvette here behind me. it actually slammed into the metal barriers hidden in the trees and ricocheted before it came to rest where it was. this accident happen about 2:30. the passenger was badly injured. he may not survive. that's why the investigation team is out there. investigators believe the driver may have been speeding and alcohol may also have played a factor. >> the driver was not on scene when we arrived. the passenger was and was treated by the fire department and taken to highland hospital in critical condition. >> reporter: now, ultimately, police found the driver and he will be tested for drugs and alcohol. we're at tunnel road between alvarado and the uplands near the claremont hotel. as we take a live look from newschopper2, you can see on the area that the traffic is backing up all the way to highway 13. if you typically take highway 24 and 13, officers want you to think about taking a different

route this morning. tunnel road is also closed again in the eastbound direction. police say that drivers should expect backups and detours for the next few hours. live from the berkeley hills, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. some grieving parents on the peninsula are searching for answers following the tragic dead of their teenaged son. it happened last week at broadway and spring streets in redwood city. police say 16-year-old armando carra in. za was shot in the dead -- carra in. za was shot in the head by another passenger in a ford expedition. three others were inside the suv when the gun went off. it's still not clear if the deadly shooting was intentional or a tragic accident. >> at this point, it looks like they were handling the gun and they may not have known that the gun was loaded.

investigators say the other young men in the car did not own the gun. the district attorney will have the final say about charges. a young mother in the north bay facing dui charges after police say she drove her car off the road and into a marsh while her young son was in the car. it happened along north san pedro road in san rafael. the car ended up in the mud as the tide was coming in. the driver was 24-year-old ashley anderson of san francisco. she told police she was lost at the time. but witnesses say anderson was speeding. >> she had a 7-year-old child in the car seated in the front seat. not properly restrained. >> in addition to dui, anderson faces charges of driving without a license and felony child endangerment. her son was turned over to family members. surveillance video has been released from san bruno of a man who police say tried to rob

a jewelry store by threatening to blow it up. the video shows the man inside the jewelers last thursday. at one point, he unzipped his sweatshirt caming to have a bomb. police say he told the clerk to hand over jewelry or he would set off the bomb. the clerk said police were on their way to the scene. so the man took off running empty-handed. police in antioch are investigating two home-invasion robberies that happened hours apart. the first was around 7:30 yesterday morning on hillside road. a woman woke up to here someone breaking into her home and realized her purts was stolen. about -- purse was stolen. an hour later police broke into a home on sycamore driver. the robbers held a woman at gunpoint and stole her purse. so far no arrests have been made. happening right now -- nascar crews getting ready to hit the track at sonoma raceway, preparing for sunday's

big race. but there's another big effort already underway tackling the traffic headache that this race always causes. ktvu's brian flores, live in sonoma right now, telling us about the new efforts in place that year, brian, to keep everything moving smoothly, right? >> reporter: yeah. we hope that's the case. talk about how busy it is. 7:00, you should have seen this. all. crews were out here. they are continuing to be out here. getting ready for qualifying today and tomorrow. the big race scheduled for sunday at noontime as well. but you talk about traffic, dave. every year, obviously there is a lot of traffic around the sonoma raceway. officials recognize that but this year there is a bigger effort to make sure that commuters know exactly what's going on. for more on that, diana with the racetrack. >> good morning. >> reporter: talk about the effort. how are you warning commuters to stay away if they are not heading toward the track?

>> obviously, this sunday there will be a lot of folks coming to the raceway, fans, guest, sponsors. if folks are not coming to the track, they they should look at alternate routes. if they are coming to wine country and the north bay, we still want them to come but look at the maps. >> reporter: talk about the alternate routes. what areas thud people away -- should people away? >> the area around the raceway, two-lane roads. there can be heavy traffic on any day of the week. we compound that on sunday with all of the folks coming here. look at the map before you come out. >> reporter: double the amount of signs and you are using the radio as well? >> we've doubled our amount of signs to make sure we're warning people, looking more closely how we're getting fans in and out of track. that's a huge focus for us. just want to make sure everyone has a great experience, fans come out and have a great

space. hotel taxes will pay for the bork. construction is scheduled -- work. construction is scheduled to start in december and wrap up in four years. pinterest plans to move into a four-story warehouse. but the place they want to move into is already 90% occupied. the property manager says most of the current tenants can move across the street into the other building that's part of showplace square. he says he will help the businesses that can't move there to find new bases and help pay relocation costs. the problem, though, was made worse because most warehouses in the neighborhood are being torn down and expensive condo minutes are going -- condos are going up in place. several for-profit colleges may close. corinthian which runs heeld, we dwrut tech and everest are -- wyatt tech and everett.

the department imposed sanctions because they say job placement information used to market the colleges was misleading. there were claims corinthian changed grades and attendance records. if the company can't get a short-term loan, it may be forced to shut down. there are four heeld colleges and one wyatt tech in the bay area. meanwhile, another bay area vocational school may shut down. last month, we told you that bryman college in san jose closed because it owed thousands of dollars in overdue rent. now, students and staff at the hayward campus have been told they are gonna have to transfer to san francisco. one student said she asked about that possibility before signing up for classes. >> i've seen the problems they had with the san jose and i said, are you gonna have any problems? is this gonna be closing? the lady said no. >> many students are single moms with jobs in hayward.

so going to san francisco for classes, that's gonna be difficult. bryman told us the hayward campus is not closing. state officials say they didn't know anything about a possible closure. but now they are looking into that which is the reason why they want to talk to some of the students. 7:16. we're learning more troubling news about military veterans dealing with long waits to see a doctor. the veterans affairs administration now says 10% of veterans seeking medical care had to wait a month or longer for an appointment that's more than twice the amount reported just last week. we now know in san francisco more than 3,000 veterans waited longer than 30 days. initially we've been told only 600 vets had to wait over a month. >> i don't like that we got more veterans waiting but at least i'm getting better day -- data. >> the department is reaching out to thousands of veterans get them off waiting lists and

into clinics. here is a live look at the hearing underway in the v.a.'s performance bonus system. it's blamed for motivating hospital employees to hide wait times and create false lists so they would get the bonuses. the v.a. inspector says the dysfunctional bonus system has now been abandoned. there is fallout from a controversial article written by george will. one of the largest newspapers in the midwest, the st. louis post dispatch, has dumped will's column. in fact, angry readers wanted him out about a recent column about sexual assaults on college campuses. will called it a "supposed campus epidemic in which victimhood served as a coveted status receiving special privileges." his critics are demanding other newspapers that publish his comments should drop him as well. a republican congressman from the central valley has been selected to take over one

see what's happening on the eastshore freeway right now. >> that's right, tori. >> traffic is actually moving along relatively well. i can show you the drive time has not changed much. we want on the air at 4:30. it was 17 minutes. right now, it's 19 minutes, almost three hours later and the traffic is still averaging 61 miles an hour. that's not bad. friday light for sure compared to what we had for the other days. let's talk about the bay bridge toll plaza and you can see the backup here is about 20-minute drive time. so that's better than it normally is. in the east bay on southbound 880, you can see traffic here. i will get rid of this banner. traffic is moving along pretty well as you head south all the way down into fremont. there are a couple of spots where it's slow but for the most part, it's a nice drive. your drive time is only 14 minutes. sometimes it's three times that as you drive between 238 and thornton avenue. let's go to rosemary. weatherwise a near repeat expected for today

temperaturewise. outside the doors this morning, we have low clouds at the coastline. we have high clouds overhead as well and plenty of blue sky in store for your afternoon. giving you a look at the high clouds sweeping over the bay area. a mix of low clouds and high clouds along the coastline. this may be the most notable change happening outside your door. you may have the white sky overhead. want to back it up and show you where the clouds are coming from. ridge of high pressure over the southeast of us, bringing in the clockwise circulation, sending those clouds our way. also happens to be a system riding over the north of us, we're picking up the tail end of a few high clouds there as well. so in sore for today, we have the patchy fog this morning, partly cloudy skies. around the bay area for today with a mix of sunshine and high clouds. by tomorrow, the trough to the north of us is gonna sink in a little bit more. cool us down a little bit. so the first day of summer likely to be the coolest day of the next several days. i will show you that in the exend ited forecast. it won't -- extended forecast.

overnight between 2:00 a.m., 5:00 a.m., there was overnight work. they were repaving. people coming to work in the east bay, early-morning hours, it was terrible. you probably are mixing in with tuck drivers and people leaving the club, that kind of thing. now traffic is doing very well. let's go back to the desk. we're now getting a closer look at all of the damage caused by a devastating fire in the east san jose foothills. two homes were destroyed by these flames which also started a brush fire on clayton road near the east ridge shopping center. the fire caused propane tanks to explode. but some of the neighbors out there say they have a valuable clue about how the fire started. ktvu's janine de la vega is there now. you've been out there all morning with a closeup look at all of the devastation, janine? >> reporter: neighbors tell us

that squatters actually used to live in one of the homes that was standing here. firefighters can't confirm that but take a look. there's not even a frame of the home that used to be here and the distance you can still see part of one. but this is just piles and piles of burnt rubble right here. you can see also that was damaged, the cars parked there in the distance. this fire began after 4:00 yesterday afternoon on clayton road and burned for hours. the plumes of smoke could be seen from highway 101. firefighters were unable to save the two homes and outbuildings on the property. the property was once a part of the 35-acre bunle family. a 70-year-old woman and her 48- year-old woman lived at the home. they weren't home at the time. the second home was vacant. firefighters spotted an ember.

a calfire chopper doused the flames and it kept it from burning a third home. >> yes. very worried because i have horses and my friends out of town have horses next to here. i was really worried. >> fire officials have been able to determine the fire started in one of the homes and then spread outside to the grassy area. one neighbor -- there is a woman who may have been squatted in one of the houses leaving. she took a photograph and handed it over to investigators. that's being looked into. there were explosions heard during the fire. people were wondering about that. peer's told that came -- we're told that came from propane tanks and barbecue grills here on the property. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:35. rangers in the big basin state park in santa cruz are closely watching things after two wildfire in two days. a brush fire reported last

night just before 6:00 in a remote part of the park. the flames were contained to just half an acre. the boulder creek fire department posted these photos of the fire. put these on their facebook page. now, another brush fire in the park burned three acres on wednesday. still no word on the cause of either fire. >> it was a close call for a cyclist in berkeley. our news crew was upon the scene shortly after a branch from a big tree came crashing down on him while he was riding his bike down college avenue. the branch also smashed a parked car and took down a large cable tv wire. the cyclist was not hurt. pg&e crews were at the scene for several hours to make sure the branch it not affect power lines. the struggle to keep enough police officers on the streets of san jose has led to an unprecedented move. starting next week, the police department may have to require its officers to work overtime

if voluntary measures do not work. police union leaders in san jose say mandatory overthyme will create more stress for police officers in the bay area's biggest cities. >> our officers have been identified as being overworked and fatigued. the auditor has warned that additional burden on the patrol division is dangerous and safe. >> the rhetoric out there is that the police officers -- they are putting the blame on the city. but i wish that they would put the residents at the forefront and help us to make sure that officers stay with the city of san jose. >> many police officers have left san jose or retired due to recent cuts in bay and benefits. there were 1400 officers in the department just a few years ago. that number is now down to less than 900. 7:37. we're learning more about the bizarre incident yesterday that really tested security on the bay bridge.

it's a story we brought you live on "mornings on 2" yesterday. the chp says 32-year-old romeo b pa. stitta set his truck on fire -- basita set his truck on fire near the toll plaza and that brought traffic to a stop. investigators say that was not any kind of terrorist attack but it did trigger a sophisticated $26 million security system on the new eastern span. >> part of that is also a surveillance system. it's monitored 24 hours, seven days a week. >> panicked drivers flagged down a homeland security officer who happened to be passing through the tollbooths. that federal officer along with a san francisco police officer subdued the man. firefighters then put the flames out on that burning truck. the oakland unified school district has now hired an independent investigator to look into the alleged attack of a student in a wheelchair by

school stewart guards. take a look at the security camera video showing 17-year- old francisco martinez in the wheelchair being roughed up by guard. the incident happened a month ago. since then one of the security guards has been fired. the other is on administrative leave. more details are coming out this morning about the u.s. and the crisis in iraq. we first reported on yesterday's "mornings on 2" that president obama would be sending military advisers to attack. the 300 americans will train iraqi forces to fight off the military insurgency try to seize the country. while president obama says u.s. troops will not return to combat in iraq, cnn reports the 300 advisers consist of high- ranking officers who are navy s.e.a.l.s and army rangers. >> they are gonna be able to report not only to their iraqi brothers in the fight but they are gonna report back to our national security apparatus to tell them what's going on.

>> there's also concern that these advisers could turn into what some say is mission creep. the advisers will protect the american embassy in baghdad and collect information on isis. in case the u.s. launches an air strike against it. the u.s. has cut aid, imposed visa restrictions and canceled a regional military exercise in uganda. this comes after the country passed a law with harsh punishments for homosexuality. that's illegal in 37 african- american countries. uganda law set a lifetime sentence forking for this. the presbyterian organization took major steps towards recognizing gay marriage. just yesterday, presbyterian church usa voted in favor of changing its constitution to redefine christian marriage as the union of two people, not just a man and a woman. a ma jorlt of the church --

the cdc say the lab there may some of its workers may have been accidentally exposed to anthrax. as many as 80 workers may have come into contact with the bacteria. they are being monitored and treated. the cdc says there is no danger, however, to the general public. happening today -- the public gets a chance to talk about a hot button issue in san francisco, corporate shuttle buses. pam cook is in the newsroom with the changes being made to accommodate the buses but at whose expense. >> people trying to park and take muni in san francisco. that's who may be the most upset about the new plan regarding those corporate shuttle buses. a test program set to begin august 1st to allow the company buses such as those offered by google, yahoo!, apple and facebook to use muni stops.

the municipal transportation agency voted to charge the shuttle $1 per unistop. this will generate about $80,000 to $100,000 from each company a year. the san francisco examiner reports that the new plan also includes expanding some of those stops to accommodate the buses which means the loss of some parking spacesny -- spaces in the city. now, plenty of parking spaces in general and particularly for those living in the mission, noe valley and alamo square complain the shuttles cause delays for the buses but they allow for more high-paid expectatives to move in and drive up the rent. today's hearing certain to attract a big crowd. it begins at 10:00 at san francisco's city hall. pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. this weekend, lombard

police want your help to catch a bank robber. police say this man robbed a bank on villages parkway about 12:30 monday afternoon. he demanded money from a teller, then ran out of the bank. police say this robbery happened about three hours after another bank robbery on lincoln avenue in san jose. investigators say they still don't know if the robberies are connected. 7:56. a northern california dog now back with its owner after being missing for 20 months. almost two years. this golden retriever named murphy went missing in october 2012 during a family camping trip near lake tahoe. the search turned up nothing. so her owners started a took beige trying to find her. sure enough. another family found murphy just five miles from where she disappeared. murphy ran up to their dog. >> it's a good feeling. i'm glad she's back with her owner. that's an incredible story. what that dog could tell us

man has been arrested for felony ut hit and run and felony dui after walking away from the scene here. this is the corvette. an officer spotted him walk away from the claremont hotel several blocks away. the solo crash happened before 2:30 near tunnel road. the passenger who is 24 years old was badly injured. he may not survive. and that's why the fatal accident investigation team is out here measure, the skid marks. investigators believe the driver may have been speeding and alcohol as well may have played a factor. >> it looks like they left the roadway and hit metal pillars, then into a tree and then into a fencing wall. >> reporter: so the car took quite a beating. >> sustained major damage with multiple points of impact and finally came to rest in the middle of the roadway. >> reporter: now, again we're at tunnel road near alva doe.

it's still not clear if the deadly shooting was intentional or a tragic accident. >> at this point, it looks like they were handling the gun and they may not have known that the gun was loaded. >> just man up. if you are around your friends, you should be safe, period. >> investigators say none of the young men in the car owned the gun. district attorney's office will likely have the final say on whether charges will be filed in this case. 8:06. jury deliberations start today in the case of two men accused of killing a 3-year-old boy in oakland. carlos nava was caught in the crossfire of what prosecutors call a shootout between gang members three years ago on international boulevard. willie torrence and lawrence denard are both charged with the child's murder. if convicted, they could both spend the rest of their lives in prison. police hope newly released surveillance camera will help them catch a man who tried to rob a jewelry store.

this video shows the man inside this jewelry store last thursday. at one point, he unzipped his sweatshirt, claiming to have a bomb. police say he told the clerk to hand over jewelry or he would set off the bomb. the clerk said police were on the their way to the scene. the man took off running empty handed. if you recognize the man, you are urged to call police. police in antioch are investigating two home-invasion robberies that happened a short time apart. the first was around 7:30 on hillside road. a woman woke up to hear someone breaking into her home. about an hour later, police say two men broke into another home nearby, the robbers held a woman there who was house sitting at gunpoint and stole her purse. no arrests have been made. 8:07. happening today -- governor jerry brown is due to sign the state eight $108 billion budget for the coming fiscal year. it includes a rainy-day fund

ashley anderson of san francisco. she told police that she was lost at the time. but witnesses say anderson was speeding. >> she had a 7-year-old child in the car seated in the front seat. and not properly restrained. >> in addition to dui anderson is facing charges of driving without a license and felony child endangerment. her son is now in the care of family members. 8:14. another delay for a decision on whether to file charges against a santa rosa mother accused of assaulting a boy who she says was bullying her daughter. deputy district attorneys asked that the case be delayed until next month, saying investigators are still questioning witnesses. the judge approved the request. they say the woman went to her child's school last month and grabbed the throat of a 12-year- old boy. she denies the charges. several for-profit college campus us in the bay area could close in the next few weeks.

corinthian colleges incorporated is under federal sanctions and has financial problems. the department of education imposed sanctions because of job placement information that was used in marketing. there were also claims it had changed grades and attendance records. if the company cannot get a short-term loan, it could be forced to shut down. there are four heald colleges and one wyo tech in the bay area. state officials want to hear from students at a bay area vocational school that may be in danger of shutting down. last month we told you that bryman college in san jose closed because it owed thousands of dollars in overdue rent. well, now students and staff at the hayward campus on main street say they have been told they are gonna have to transfer to san francisco. one student said she even asked about that possibility when she signed up for the classes. >> i've seen the problems they had with the san jose and i said, are you gonna have any

problems here? will this close? the lady signing me said no. >> many students are single mothers with jobs in hayward. so going to san francisco now for class, that will be hard. >> bryman said the hayward campus is not closing. state officials say they didn't know anything about a possible closure but they will look into it and that's why they want to talk to the students there. there's fallout from a controversial article written by george will. the largest newspaper in the midwest, the st. louis post dispatch, has dumped his column after he wrote about the recent focus on sexual assaults at college campuses. will disputed evidence that one in five women on u.s. college campuses experienced sexual assault and claimed that efforts to fight what he called "the supposed campus epidemic of rape" have made victimhood a coveted status. will's critics are demanding that other newspapers should drop his columns as well. >> wow. all right, tori.

8:17. hey, sal, how are the folks doing in the south bay? >> well, they are okay. but 101 and 280 kind of switch roles. normally 101 is ridiculous. 280 is the better alternate but i think right now that's not happening, at least north of 17. if you are driving from 17 to 880, that doesn't look too bad. after that, you see slow traffic. i want to put it on the map. the road sensors are all red on northbound 280 getting up to highway 85 where there was an earlier crash but look at 101. many times i'm tracing this line, it's all red. today there is a little bit of slow traffic in mountain view. that's about all. you have your alternate. it should be highway 101 instead. highway 24 between pleasant hill road and the caldecott. eight minutes. that looks good. 238 on 880 southbound, san lorenzo to fremont, 13. that's great time. even 580 is still looking good

residential area. oakland police have set up a prim him ter and they are looking for the -- perimeter and they are looking for the driver. oakland police and chp in the neighborhood. this is not affecting freeway traffic which is slow anyway on 580 as you approach park boulevard and head out to the 980 interchange. chp also says this was a stolen vehicle that they were chasing. the driver of the vehicle refused to yield. now he's in the neighborhood in oakland. this is very near a catholic school there. catholic elementary school in the area. so there might be some concern from residents. our reporter is on the way to the scene. berkeley police have arrested a man after a single car injury crash left a passenger in his car seriously injured. the car was seriously damaged. the road has been closed since the crash. the car hit a fence and a tree. they say the driver got out and

tried to get away. officers found him ploks away. police -- blocks away. the driver has been arrested on suspicion of dui. you can see traffic is backed up. this is about a 20-minute drive time getting into san francisco. at 8:33. back to the desk. thank you. we're now getting a closer look at all of the damage caused by a devastating fire in the east san jose foothills. two homes were destroyed by those flames which also started a brush fire on clayton road near the east ridge shopping center. the fire caused propane tanks to explode as well. some neighbors there say they may have a valuable clue about how that fire started. ktvu's janine de la vega has been out there all morning and you just spoke to a relative whose house burned to the ground. good morning, janine.

>> reporter: the nephew here is just devastated. he says he lot of memories -- he has a lot of memories. it's basically a pile of rubble. everything is just gone. now, let's go to some video, some cell phone video that we just got in the last 30 minutes showing those flames eating away at the two homes that were here. they were already engulfed in flames when crews responded. the homes were located on clayton road in the east foothills. we're told they were once part of the 35-acre bunle family apricot ranch. one of the homes were occupied by a woman and her elderly mother in her 70s. the second home we're told a woman was there squatting apparently she was a former

girlfriend girlfriend of a -- former girlfriend of a relative. they wanted her to leave. one of the neighbors appear the woman appeared to be under the influence so they took a photograph of her leaving. that was turned over to investigators. here's what the property owner told us a short time ago about her history. >> she set a fire on the concrete near the shed one time. i heard she had something and she was trying to cook in there. that's what we guess happened, she was trying to cook and something happened. caught the place on fire. >> reporter: a calfire chopper

department posted a couple of photos like this here on facebook page. another brush burned three acres on wednesday. no cause on the -- no word on the cause of either of those fires. the struggle to keep enough police officers on streets of san jose has led to an unprecedented move. starting next week, the san jose police department may have to require officers to work overtime if voluntary measures don't work. police union leaders in san jose say mandatory overtime will cause more stress for police officers in the bay area's biggest city. >> our officers have already been identified by the city auditor as being overworked and fatigue. she's warned that additional burden upon our patrol division is dangerous and up safe. >> the rhetoric out there is the police officers association is putting the blame on the city. i wish they would put the residents at the forefront and help us to make sure that officers stay with the city of san jose.

oakland police department as well as the highway patrol. we understand that this red it car that you are -- red car that you are looking at, this is the car that was stolen. it was a rental car and apparently, the suspect, a man came up to the person who was driving it and said get out, took it and the person who had the rental car stolen told police. an officer did a traffic stop. when they did that, the suspect ran away. this was in the area of high and madison. so police have established a four-block perimeter. they blocked off everything here. they also have the k-9 on scene. i talked to a man who said he lives in the yellow apartment building right here. he said his wife was home at the time when the suspect was trying to get into the backyard there. so if you take a look above from newschopper2 you can see the perimeter is a very wide one. we do want to mention that the woman who saw the man come in, described him as a man who was wearing a grea shirt with white -- gray shirt with white

adding salt to the wound. now, in just about hown hour, there -- one hour, there will be a public hearing. it starts at 10:00. a test program set to begin august 1st to allow the company buses such as those offered by google, yahoo!, apple and facebook to use noonmy stop. the mta voted to charge the shuttles one dollar per muni stop to try to keep them from taking space. that's expected to generate more than a million dollars a year. the san francisco examiner reports that the new plan also includes using some parking spaces to expand some of those stops to accommodate the large company buses. now, there have been plenty of protests over the corporate shuttle buses, particularly from people living in the mission, noe valley and alamo square neighborhoods. they complain that the shuttle buses not only cause delays for muni buses but they allow for more high-paid tech executives to move into the city and that drives up their rent. now, an mta planner in charge
