mountain view at google where protesters were arrested tonight. we'll tell you what they were demanding. you will also hear from one of those arrested. "mornings on 2" starts now. a police chase across the bay bridge ended with a crash, an explosion of flames killing two people. we continue following this developing news and here is a live look where the fifth street offramp remains closed right now. ktvu's tara moriarty has been on the scene since 4:00 this morning. coming up in two minutes, she will tell us what police say set off the chase in the first place. we'll tell you how long this ramp is expected to be closed. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about your weather and traffic. we have a pretty good fog bank. up and down the coast, it's

filled in nicely. breezy, windiy. sunshine. increasing clouds coming in. there will be a lot of drizzle late tonight, tomorrow once the front gets closer. it's on the north coast giving them rain. a soft 60 at fairfield. low 60s at mountain view. the wind, though, will be a bigger story here. gust 35 at travis. 25 plus at concord. 21 oakland. it will be a breezy day. there's some of the rain. the front has a ways to go. it will give us drizzle later on. fog, sun, breezy to windie. cooler for all. increasing clouds for the north bay later on. main mendocino county, lake county might get in on some rain. a lot of 60s closer to the water. here's sal. we're looking at traffic that's busy all over the bay as we reach the peak of the morning commute. in the silicon valley, we'll start there. northbound 280 is doing better than it normally does getting in the valley with no major

problems. the traffic is doing okay if you are driving on 101 as well. and on 85 heading north. you can see traffic is going to be busy on 101 in sunnyvale. but that's about normal and also in mountain view. san mateo bridge, this could be an alternate to the bay bridge this morning. the bay bridge has a lot of slow traffic getting into san francisco for reasons we'll discuss in just a moment. but the san mateo bridge is getting busier by the minute. about a 20-minute drive time across the high rise and to foster city. bay bridge toll plaza, 35, 40 minutes. the metering lights are on extra slow. that's because of a problem in san francisco. the traffic will be backed up on around 80 from the macarthur maze. and they this is because of -- and then this is because of a deadly crash and fifth and harrison in san francisco. officers say two people in a stolen car died after their car crashed and burst into flames after a high-speed pursuit. ktvu's tara moriarty has been following this since 4:30 this morning. she joins us live from san

francisco. tara? >> reporter: good morning, sam. now the coroner -- sal. now, the cory ner is -- coroner is on the scene. we know the people were driving so fast off the offramp, they slammed into the concrete barrier and flipped over and came to arrest where they are right now. two people inside were killed. you can see the evidence markers strewn all over roadway and what's left of the convertible bmw. officials say one man was ejected from the car. he was not wearing his seat belt. the other burned inside the vehicle when it burst into flames. this all started around 3:00 this morning when oakland police -- when oakland chp officers noticed the stolen car was driving on 880 northbound near 7th street. the chase began across the bay bridge with speeds reaching 10 miles an hour. the -- 130 miles an hour. the chp says the officers are trained to handle these high-

speed chases. >> we have a full racetrack course that we get trained to drive at high rate speeds, the pursuit is very intense. you have to remember, it's a risk verses gain. in this case, it was late at night. there was not a lot of traffic. we take all of the conditions into consideration during a pursuit. >> reporter: the fifth street offramp, which is a major exit off 80 westbound, will, again, be closed until 10:00 this morning. back here live, you can see traffic is slow. it's moving. the chp is advising that you take b.a.r.t. into the city. we'll be sure to keep an eye on traffic for you this morning and let you know if anything changes. we're live in san francisco, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:05. more details about the location of this crash. this offramp was the scene of the deadly crash ten days ago. that's when the chp says the suspected drunk driver took the curve too quickly and crashed into a home also encampment to the left. a homeless man was killed. other people living there say

they would like caltrans to put up extra signs or flashing lights to alert drivers to the sharp curve. 7:05. protesters with the occupy movement trying to take over google's headquarters in mountain view. they said they were defending freedom on the internet. ktvu's janine de la vega is at google now to tell us about one protester's confrontation with the police. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. yes. i just got off the phone with an independent journalist who follows this occupy movement. he was arrested. he says he and nine others just got out of jail. they are now waiting for their personal belongings. he says for the most part during the day yesterday that google employees seem to be supportive of their cause but after business hours, things changed and police came here and a lot of people are still buzzing about what happened here on social media. now, let's take a look at some of those photos that the protesters posted on facebook and twitter what appeared to be

heavy police presence in front of google, they say during a peaceful demonstration, ten people were arrested because they were on private property trespassing. the movement known as occupy google is demanding that they take action to support net neutrality, making sure the internet remains free and open. here's video that occupiers posted of one arrest. the man behind the camera also gets taken into custody. we spoke to him by phone about how the situation was handled. >> well, at this point everybody here is under arrest for trespassing. >> they could have handled it differently, i think. they basically gave the police carte blanche to deal with the police how they wanted. it never goes down well. >> reporter: they say many protesters left immediately so they wouldn't guest arrested. the situation escalated when a couple of them didn't want to leave when they were asked to. the occupy continues to

pressure google. occupiers are concerned over a court ruling that overturned the fcc's open internet order which gives verizon and comcast the edge because they can afford to pay higher fees for faster internet. again, they are urging google and others to take a stand. reporting live from mountain view, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. hillary clinton will be in san francisco tonight and tomorrow. she's proproeting her -- promoting her book. environment activists plan to show up to call on her to oppose the keystone xcel pipeline. clinton has not taken a position on it. house speaker john boehner says he may sue president obama. boehner says the president is exceeding his constitutional authority when it comes to administering the laws that congress passes. he says further action is needed because house

legislation addressed in the issue has "gone nowhere in the democrat-controlled senate." president obama has previously vowed to take executive action if he cannot get cooperation from congress. a plan to change a state law designed to prevent renters from being victed is being dropped -- evicted is being dropped, at least for now. mark leno sponsored the original bill that would have required landlords to own the blg for at least five years -- building for at least five years before they could use the ellis act. it never made it past the hearings. leno may try later. if everything goes as planned, treasure island may be turned over. the chronicle reports, the san francisco board of supervisors approved a resolution allowing the city's treasure island development authority to move ahead with the transfer. it's expected to include the

eastern end of the island and yerba buena island as well. the city of antioch asking home builders to submit plans for town houses that they could build in the downtown area. the city owns three acres of land east of the river town area. it wants to have a developer create a neighborhood village between west second and third streets bordered by a and f streets. city officials believe that could stimulate growth in the area. police are investigating two phone scams sitting people on both sides of the bay. in contra costa county, a man has been calling people claiming to be a representative from the sheriff's office. he says they have failed to appear for jury duty or court dates and have an outstanding warrant. in san bruno the caller tells people they owe a large sum of money to the irs. in both cases, people are being told to pay what they owe in the form of a prepaid debit card or cashier's check. police say neither the irs or law enforcement would try to

collect fees this way. police are looking for suspects after a home burglary in san ramon. a man returned to his home and noticed a side gate was open. police say several items including a safe with jewelry inside were missing. police say two of the suspects drove off in a car. the two arrested were found hiding in a nearby backyard. they are a 16-year-old from bay pinpoint and a 19 -- baypoint and a 19-year-old from san francisco. they left in a nissan suv with the california plate on your screen. 7:11. a dog becomes a hero in oakland in an early-morning apartment building fire. >> she started jumping on top of my head and barking. >> coming up in 20 minutes what that pit bull dog did that

to build his museum of hollywood memorabilia and american art in san francisco at the presidio. but the presidio trust rejected that idea. so george lucas turned to his wife's home town of chicago and chicago is happy to get it. >> have a tremendous opportunity in the city of chicago as they partner with schools and make a tremendous investment in the city in creating jobs. >> george lucas released a statement saying choosing chicago is the right decision for the museum but a difficult decision for me personally because of my strong personal and professional roots in the bay area. the september 11th museum in new york already doing better than expected. more than 300,000 people have visited that museum since it opened five weeks ago. that's about 15,000 more than organizers predicted. now, critics question whether people would go to the museum and pay the $4 admission fee --

music. >> you are right. it's hard to believe. >> and farrah fawcett died that same day. >> yes. let's check your commute. sal has -- you have a busy morning. a lot going on, especially around the toll plaza. >> you know, that issue that we have in san francisco getting across, you will notice when you drive across if you are going across the fifth street offramp is closed. a lot of people are slowing down because perhaps they didn't listen to the traffic or the news before they get into the car and there's confusion on the other side as to what's going on. that's leading to slow traffic on the bridge and ultraslow traffic at the metering lights and at the toll plaza because they don't want a big traffic jam on the bridge. the metering lights are on slower. right now, traffic on 880, 580 and 80 is stacking up even before you get to the bay bridge. 35 to 40-minute drive time into san francisco. we suggest using a different route or b.a.r.t. check in with b.a.r.t. b.a.r.t. trains are running in and out of san francisco on time. that's a decent option if you

can swing that. let's take a look at the san mateo bridge where more people are arriving. this has become a lot more crowded in the last half-hour. 20-minute drive time across to the other side. if you are driving on highway 101 in san francisco, you will notice friends joining you. we're looking at a map of the south bay here. northbound 280, 101 and 85 are not as bad. sure, there's slow traffic. this commute is still do-able, especially on 280. let's go to steve. thank you, sir. we have a pretty good rampup of the fog bank. there is a front coming in. it won't do too much. it will give us a cooldown. the breeze has picked up. the fog is producing good drizzle on the san mateo coast. i think it will continue tonight into tomorrow. there's the front a little ways away. it will make a good impact on the temperatures which are coming down. a cold front is on the way. tomorrow, cooler. by the weekend, we'll start to

warm it up. by sunday, might be back into the hot category. day baseball won't be arm. 50s, 60s. breezy to blustery. west wind to 20 miles plus an hour. the front ising on the coast. 50s and 60s on the temperature. the breeze is almost 40 miles an hour at the altamont pass. san jose, san jose state, sunnyvale at low 60s in there, 57, saratoga and 56 in gilroy. fairfield gusting over 30, 33 miles per hour. concord south at 20. a pretty good breeze. there's the system. heard from a few observers. no rain yet. the atmosphere is very, very dry. would you expect that. but it's going to give a really good push on the fog as it gets closer and increase the clouds. if there is any rain, i would think that mendocino county and lake county would be the southern extent of it. 58 monterey. 58 in eureka. looks pretty good for this time

made it out safely thanks to his dog. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." it's 7:30. i'm tori campbell. >> good morning, tc. >> good morning. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. steve, i ducked outside. kind of overcast. >> there's also a lot of drizzle. half moon bay, el granado, san mateo coast over to sfo, it will be here a while. i think today, tonight and definitely into tomorrow morning. our cold front approaches and that will enhance the fog, low clouds, drizzle. sunny for some but probably noticeable westerly breeze. increasing clouds from what will be a dying front. it's there. it's moving into the north. that's already giving a lot of cloud cover there. there might be a little bit for everyone said and done. 50s on the temperatures. right about at 60. 59 belmont. 56 menlo park. palo alto says 59. it's the breeze which continues to be ramped up. 25, gusts to 30 for some especially in the higher elevations. it will be a breezy day. the system looks more ommow nis

-- ominous. the gray will get pushed. look for an increase in the low cloud deck friday night. fog, sun, breezy. increasing clouds. cooler for all. clouds to the north. 70s, 80s inland. 60s by the coast and bay. here's sal. traffic is going to be pretty busy around the bay area. at the bay bridge, that's really the trouble spot because of a ramp closure in san francisco due to a deadly crash. that ramp continues to slow traffic into and on the bridge. westbound traffic, your drive time 45 minutes getting into the area and you will see a lot of slow traffic on the bridge and also trying to force people to get doff the offramp. the chp says it will be until 10:00 this morning until they reopen that ramp. that's gonna cause major trouble for the bay bridge until that ramp is reopened for sometime after. and today there is a day

baseball game at at&t park. that will complicate things as you get into the city. my suggestion, use b.a.r.t. or you can think of alternate routes. northbound 101, we have a lot of slow traffic coming in past 280 and slowing into the silicon valley. 280 is actually a decent alternate there. so is 85. but 101 is very slow. and in oakland, northbound 880 traffic does look good in both directions. northbound and southbound. if you are trying to sneak down to the bridge. 880 is fine but the san mateo bridge traffic is busy down the span. new this morning, 17 people in oakland, including five children now homeless after their apartment building caught fire. it started about 2:30 on 39th avenue in oakland. ktvu's alex savidge has been out there. you are talking to a man who says his talk is the reason he's still arrive -- dog is the reason he's still alive. >> reporter: the man said his dog jumped up on his bead and

woke him -- bed and woke him up. he escaped and so did the other people. 17 people including children will have to find a new place to live. this building on 39th avenue and international. julio cruz tells me he swoek up because -- he woke up because of his dog, a pit bull mix. and that dog made sure he and his roommate got out safely. >> she lvs me. she love -- she loves me. she loves me and my roommate. it's her house, you know, she -- she's very smart. she knows how to protect. >> reporter: cruise is glad to have her attorney. they rescued her a few weeks ago after someone abandoned her. at that time, she was emaciated

and near death. she was nursed back to health and came to the rescue of her owner alerting her to this fire. that fire we're told began to burn outside of the grounds floor unit. investigators still trying to figure out exactly how it started. we're live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. 7:35. new details about an oakland firefighter critically injured when his fire truck flipped over the oakland airport. 55-year-old mitchell owl, a 28- year veteran of the oakland fire department was badly hurt in that crash. he was alone driving the fire truck as part of a monthly drill. it was a firefighting rig, meaning it was equipped with 3,000 gallons of water and 420 gallons of foam. the truck roled over as he was -- rolled over as he was turning to the maintenance center. he was rushed to the highland hospital. his colleagues are there praying for his recovery.

>> right now, the department is in shock. this firefighter was well known and liked from all members within the organization. >> al is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. reportedly, he's married with no children. we don't know how fast he was driving at the time of his crash. but both the chp and cal/osha are investigating. 7:36. san francisco police open newly released video will lead to an arrest in the spring of arsons in the south of market area. last week, ktvu was the first to report on at least a dozen fires in the area surrounding first and folsom streets. investigators say some of the fires were set at construction sites. others were set at newsstands and dumpsters. well, now police have released this surveillance video of the man they believe is responsible. >> you see a suspect in the video following someone with a bike. he walks through a corridor, kind of comes back, meanders back to the door.

tries a secondary door and then comes back through the door he initially entered. so we definitely -- if somebody recognizes him -- would like an identification on him. >> police are investigating if all of those arson cases are connected. 7:37. desperate to reduce the number of traffic deaths in san francisco. officials are considering reducing speed limits throughout the city. brian floor less is live in -- brian floor less flores is live in san francisco to let us know more about this. is there a timetable? >> reporter: it's still early on which is why they are conducting this study. we would assume that this would probably be one of the intersections where they would possibly reduce the speed. we are on sunset and yorba. this police officer is taking a look at vehicles. he's already gotten somebody

for going way past the speed limit. he says this is one of the more dangerous intersections for san francisco. according to this morning's newspaper, they say the city is planning on a campaign to reduce the speed limit by 5, 10 miles per hour than what it is now. at least 21 pedestrians have been killed on city streets this year. the goal is to reduce the number to zero. it's all part of the plan called vision zero. one of the more recent incidents happened at sunset and yorba back in may of this year. police say at the time, a 21- year-old woman was crossing the intersection when she was hit. the driver at the time said she didn't see the womannor the flashing yellow light that's meant to bring traffic to a stop. the woman is okay. but three months before this in february, there's a fatal accident at this very same intersection. police have been conducting more patrols and traffic crackdowns especially around van ness. now, the study is expected to be completed by this fall.

as we take it back out here live, you can see that there's a cone here as well. police -- police say there's a traffic light expected to be built in the next few months. coming up on "mornings on 2," you will actually hear from a pedestrian who says that she was hit on this very same intersection. you will hear what she has to say about the dangers of crossing this very same street. we're live in san francisco, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. 7:39. police are investigating a spring of burglaries in one of the bay area's most affluent cities. investigators are looking into three residential burglaries in hillsborough yesterday. there were break-ins at a home on marlboro and avondale, another on churchhill, the third at calaveras court. officers hope neighbors have surveillance video that might help in the investigation. oakland police are searching for suspects in a deadly shooting. the victim, a woman in her 20s. it happened last night on douglas avenue, not far from

the oakland coliseum. a man with the woman was wounded and is expected to survive. it's not clear what led up to the deadly gunfire. closing arguments expected friday in the federal lawsuit tied to the fatal shooting of oscar grant. now, oscar grant eight father took the witness stand yesterday. his first testimony ever about his son's death five years ago. he's currently serving a life sentence in state prison for first-degree murder. he told the jury he believes that johannes mehserle intentionally killed his son. he also said he is suing johannes mehserle and bart to provide money for -- for his grandmother. a moratorium was voted on for pot clubs. right now, there are no medical marijuana dispenries in unincorporated parts of the

crash coming up through the baypoint area. we do have a lot of slow traffic in this aria. let's take a look at -- area. let's take a look at 880 in oakland. it's beginning to slow down near the coliseum and stays that way to the brick wall and up to the bay bridge toll plaza. it's been superslow. that's because chp is investigating a deadly crash at fifth and harrison in san francisco. officers two people in a stolen car died after their car crashed and burst into flames after a high-speed pursuit across the bay bridge. tara moriarty has been following this since 4:30 this morning and she joins me now with the crash and how it is affecting the drive into the city. >> reporter: you can tell what a horrific crash this is. there were a hundred strewn all over the roadway. investigators believe the vehicle flipped and landed over there where you can see it's scorched. two people inside were killed. one was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from the

convertible. the other man was inside when the vehicle burst into flames. this all began around 3:00 this morning when oakland officers noticed the stolen car driving on 880 northbound near 7th street. the chase began across the bay bridge with speeds reaching up to 130 miles an hour. >> stolen vehicles it's a big problem. inside the stolen vehicle, usually you find more evidence of crimes. usually people in stolen vehicles have more things going on warrants. stuff like that. >> reporter: now, this exit will be closed until about 10:00 this morning. back here live, you can take a look at the traffic coming into san francisco. it actually looks slower than it did earlier this morning. things definitely backing up. the chp is advising that you take b.a.r.t. this morning if you need to get into san francisco. we're live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel

2 news. >> thank you, tara. more details now about the location of this crash. this offramp was also the scene of a deadly crash just ten days ago. that's when the chp says the suspected drunk driver took the curve too quickly and crashed into a homeless encampment to the left of the ramp. a homeless man was killed. others there say they would like caltrans to put up extra signs or flashing lights to alert drivers to the sharp curve. a group of advocates are calling on the department of justice to investigate the use of force by sonoma county deputies. it comes eight months after andy lopez was shot to death by a deputy. the group says since lopez was killed five more people in the area have lost their lives during police actions. >> this whole community has been affected by his death. it must stop.

>> the group calls the teen's death part of an epidemic of deadly force. they are also critical of the district attorney. she still has not released a decision on whether to charge the deputy who shot lopez last october. police say the 13-year-old was carrying a bb gup that resem -- gun that resembled an ak-47. police in morgan hill searching for three people wanted for attempted murder in a drive-by shooting. they've been identified as 22- year-old francisco diaz. nick nicholas young. police say those two arced with two men on friday night, then got into a car driven by ayala, the other individual. shots were fired. one perp was wounded. he's expected to -- one person was wounded. she's expected to survive. police say the three should be considered armed and dangerous. if all goes well, the federal government will turn over parts of treasure aland to the city of san francisco by -- island to the city of san francisco by the end of the

year. the u.s. navy still owns the land and is examining it for radiation. the chronicle reports that the san francisco board of supervisors has approved a resolution allowing the development authority to move ahead with the transfer. it's expected to include the eastern end of the island and yerba buena island as well. the city of antioch is asking home builders to submit plans for townhouses they couldle build in the downtown area. the city owns three acres of land east of rivertown. they want a development between west second and third boarderred by a and f streets. city leaders believe that could help stimulate growth in the area. protesters with the occupy movement, they tried to take over google's world headquarters in mountain view. they say they were defending freedom on the internet. janine de la vega is at google now. you talked to a protester and the police about that overnight confrontation.

traffic time there. let's go to live pictures. i want to show you the traffic on 280 is still very slow in san jose getting up to highway 17. it has improved a little bit. but 101 is the slowest in the south bay and then finally, we have been talking about this all morning. it's very slow into san francisco on the bay bridge. this is partially due to a ramp closure at the 5th street offramp. the san mateo bridge as you see here could be an alternate. it's still a little bit slow getting out to the high rise. it could be an alternate to you if you don't have to teal with using the bay bridge -- deal with using the bay bridge. b.a.r.t. has trains in and out of san francisco on time. let's go back to the desk. >> all right, sal. thank you. 17 people in oakland including five children looking now for a place to stay after an early- morning fire at their apartment building. it started about 2:30 this morning at a complex on 39th and oakland. alex savidge, you've been out there all morning. you know more about how people were hey learted and how they

-- alerted and how they got out of there alive. >> reporter: well, good morning to you. a four-legged hero may have saved a lot of lives this morning. this dog alerted his owner to the fire, woke him up as flames were racing through his apartment unit and in the end, everyone who lives inside this building, they all made it automatic alive. a total of 17 people including five includes were forced out by this fire. all of them will have to find another place to live. the fire started before 3:00 this morning at this building on 39th avenue just off international. all four units were damaged by the fire. juli cruz was alerted about the fire from his dog, a pit bull mix. >> i rescued her a few months ago. now she rescue me. it's great. >> reporter: he says he and his

roommate rescued her a few months back after someone abandoned her behind the building. she was emash rated at that -- emaciated at that time and close to death. she was nursed back to health and this morning she came to the rescue of him. all 17 people who live here made it out alive. we're told the fire started just outside one of the ground floor units, there was a fire investigator out here. but so far they've not figured out the cause. we're live in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:34. there are new details about a firefighter critically injured when his truck flipped over at the oakland airport. he's identified at 55-year-old mitchell owl, a 28-year veteran of the oakland fire department. he was alone driving the truck as part of a monthly drill. the truck is a firefighting rig equipped 3,000 gallons of water

and 420 gallons of foam. his truck rolled over as he was making a turn in front of the oakland maintenance center. he was rushed to the hospital where colleagues are keeping vigil. >> right now, the department is in shock. like i said, this firefighter was well known and liked with all of the members within the organization. >> ow is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. a source says he's married with no children. it's unclear how fast he was driving at the time of the crash. the chp and cal/osha are now investigating. 8:35. oakland police searching for suspects in the deadly shooting. the victim a woman in her 20s. it happened last night on douglas avenue not far from the oakland coliseum. police found her body on the street. a man with her was wounded but he's expected to survive. still not clear what led up to the deadly shooting. closing arguments are expected friday in the federal lawsuit tied to the fatal shooting of oscar grant. oscar grant's father took the

witness stand yesterday in his first testimony ever about his son's death at the fruitvale station five years ago. he's currently serving a life sentence in state prison for first-degree murder. he told the jury he believes former b.a.r.t. officer johannes mehserle intentionally killed his son. he also said he's suing johannes mehserle and bart to provide money for his granddaughter. police in hillsborough investigating a stringof burglaries in that affluent community. investigators are looking into three residential burglaries yesterday. there were break-ins at a home on marboro and avondale, another on church hill and another at calaveras court and lakeview. it's not clear if they are all connected. police hope neighbors have surveillance video that may help out in the investigation. officials are considering reducing spims throughout -- speed limits throughout san francisco in an effort to

reduce the number of traffic deaths in the city. brian flores is live to let us know when drivers may be required to slow down. do we have any idea when this might start? >> reporter: they are conducting a study to figure out which areas to target. it's very dangerous out there. yorba and sunset. that's an officer with the san francisco police department. he has the gun out, catching speeders. he has caught three so far. the street, 35 miles an hour. we've seen drivers going way past that this morning which makes it very dangerous for pedestrians to cross the street. according to this morning's examiner newspaper, they say that the city is planning on a campaign to reduce the speed limit by 5 to 10 miles per hour than what it is right now. the study is expected to be completed by this fall. now, one of the more recent incidents happened on this very intersection, sunset and yorba back in may of this year.

police say at the time, a 24- year-old woman was crossing the street in the crosswalk when she was hit. the driver at the time said she didn't see the woman or the flashing yell local lights that's -- yellow lights that's meant to bring traffic to a stop. that woman is okay. three months before that, there was a fatal one at the intersection again. since then, sfpd have been out there patrolling for some months now. some residents we spoke with say more needs to be done. >> september 12th last year, i was crossing. the lights were flashing. i was hit by a -- by car. he said he didn't see me. >> reporter: is this intersection safe? >> no, not at all. >> i've almost gotten hit even when i'm walking and other cars are stopped. the cars behind them don't notice they are stop and rather end them. it happens all of the time. >> reporter: now, to curb the problem police have been out here conducting more patrols and traffic crackdowns

the arrest. now, they are demanding that google support net neutrality, which is to make sure the internet stays free and open. in developing news for you this morning -- the chp investigating a deadly crash. it happened at fifth and harrison streets in san francisco. police say two men in a stolen car died after the car crashed and then burst into flames after a high-speed pursuit across the bay bridge. ktvu's tara moriarty has been on this story since 4:30 this morning. you are back now with the very latest on what happened out there, tara? >> reporter: well, the car is now being towed out on a flatbed truck. more than 100 evidence markers all over the roadway, those have been swept up. initially, the chp says this roadway would not be open until 10:00. it looks like that will happen earlier. probably in about a half an hour. now, the chp has had the fifth street offramp blocked at harrison off 80 westbound because of a fiery crash that killed two people. this all began around 3:00 this morning when oakland officers

noticed a stolen convertible bmw out of san francisco heading northbound on 880 near 7th street. a chase began across the bay bridge with scenes reaching 130 miles an hour. officers say that they are trained to handle such high- speed pursuits. >> we have a full racetrack course that we get trained to drive at high speed. how to operate the radio at high speeds. a pursuit is very intense. but you have to keep remembering it's a risk verses gain. in this case, it was late at night. there wasn't a lot of traffic. we take all of those conditions into consideration during a pursuit. >> reporter: the car crashed into a concrete barrier on the offramp, flipped over, burst into flames. again, the fifth street offramp off 80 westbound still closed. back out here live, traffic has been a mess heading into san francisco. the good news, it shoulding letting up -- this should be lefting up. at the most, a half-hour before things are back to normal.

>> thank you. 8:47. let's check back with sal. you are keeping an eye on 880. how are they doing? >> it's a little better. i would suggest that going down to the san mateo bridge on 880 is not all that bad. right now, southbound traffic is looking good as you can see. that's on your left there heading down to 92. you will see some slow traffic northbound has improfnled a little bit -- improved a little bit getting up to the coliseum. traffic at the toll plaza has been pretty slow this morning. if you are driving on westbound approach, this is because that deadly crash and also because of the normal morning commute. highway 4 has improved. this is good news. they got rid of that crash. now between antioch and concord, we're finally beginning to see some improvement. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. some rain. what? yes, up on the north coast. drizzle. pacifica, daly city, sfo, oakland airport there will be more tonight and a rather extensive fog bank. it's there. now, as far as rain making it,

about in san francisco. the fire department says there were three more arsons since monday noon time. they occurred in different parts of the city including market street and the tenderloin. investigators have not announced whether these cases are connected to a string of arsons in the city's south of market neighborhood. surveillance pictures show a man loitering in an area where a couple dumpster fires recently occurred. ktvu learned that a suspected firebug may have started about a dozen fires in the past few weeks. the u.s. homeland security department says the united states is being overwhelmed by a huge surge of children that are crossing the border from mexico without parents. in then morning, the search is on to figure out what to do with the chirp. a plan to search some of the children near san diego at a nursing home, that was rejected. this after a meeting about this issue drew a big crowd. so big it spilled out of city hall. people said they are worried
