coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> and good morning. welcome to mornings on two. it's saturday june 28th. >> good morning. let's start with a quick look at the weather and your weekend forecast. >> good morning. its going to be a beautiful day, can't say much for this shot here a live look into san francisco where we have the low clouds and the fog joining us this morning. fairly widespread out there. going to be peeling back and by midmorning to late morning, afternoon sun on the way. we have hugging up along the coastline. you saw it just inside the bay. san francisco covered in gray at the moment a small way into some of the valley locations. by the second half of the morning by lunchtime most of us are mostly sunny. we have the on shore breeze, we have 25 miles an hour. that gust in fairfield this morning. that telling us that though we will warm up it shouldn't be to

bad. we have a beautiful day in store with temperatures just a few degrees warmer than yesterday for most. 53 right now in santa rosa. 55 san francisco, 70 antioch and livermore. san jose also 61. we get into the afternoon. that low 60s expected in areas like pacifica. 60s, 70s around the basement few 80s mountain view and san jose. far inland into the mid80s. fantastic out there for the afternoon. this is the beginning of a warming trend. temperatures will eventually get in to the upper 90s for some of us. take a look at that extended forecast coming up. >> we are following developing news in concord where highway 4 has reopened following a deadly crash that claimed a baby. we are live with what police are saying about that crash. it also killed a woman and left five injured. >> reporter: we are live here along willow pass road where behind me is where the accident

happened. cars are driving so quickly i can't get you any closer to the scene at this point. let me show you some video from overnight. an suv is caught on the edge of pine bridge. you can see here in the video. it's not clear who was in what car when this crash happened. we do know it was a head on collision around 11 between an suv and a large sedaa n. concord police officers found the scene while he was driving eastbound on willow pass road. when he arrived he found the collision involving the two vehicles. first responders tried to saving a baby girl but she died later at a hospital from injuries she sustained in the crash a woman believed to be the driver of one of the vehicles died on scene. there have been others injured in this collision. we are still working to learn their condition. at this point officers are not releasing the names of the victims. they still need to tell next of

kin. chp was helping control traffic for a while. at this point police have cleared the scene but they are the lead investigators. for now live. ktv channel 2news. >> police are looking for two people who they say are connected to a suspicious fire at an oakland apartment building. firefighters responded to the flames on east 17th at 10:45. they say an explosion in the back of the unit may have caused the fire. investigators say two people with possible burn injuries were seen leaving the area. >> [inaudible] the whole place just shift. >> reporter: flames were under control in about 20 minutes but the building is now to unstable to live in. the american red cross is helping residents find a new place. fire crews had to treat a dog with burns at the scene but no injuries were reported. >> antioch police are investigating a shooting that killed a man.

it happened at 9:30 on sycamorre. they were responding to reports of shots fired. he was pronounced dead at the scene. no arrests have been made. investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to call the antioch police department. santa rosa police are asking for help in finding a teenager who has been missing for a movement police say the 14-year-old teresa fletcher ran away from a group home on may 28 28th. she is 5'8'', 170 pounds with brown eyes and hair, police say she has a tattoo of a flower outline on her right hip. new this morning we are learning the man accused of being the ring leader in the attack in libya has been brought to court. he was captured earlier this month and has been interrogated on the uss new york. officials say he is one of the senior leaders of the several militias accused of taking part on the attack in the united

states consulate. >> pride weekend is underway in san francisco and the theme this year event is color our world with pride. the focus is on fighting discrimination around the world. yesterday hundreds of people participated in the transgender march. act a million people are expected to be at all the parades, parties this weekend. many are visiting out of town. >> people just let it go when they come here. its part of the attraction. >> a lot easier to walk down the street and say nice to meet you. this is my wife. >> some business owners say pride weekend is their busiest time of year. a symbol of gay pride and unity is in place in san francisco. yesterday volunteers started installing the famous pink triangle. it's a symbol for gay people killed in conten trace camps in germany. it's important to remember the past while working toward a better future. here are some of the other

gay pride events. the dike march and rally starts on delores at 4:00 p.m. at five the pink saturday street party and it all leads up to tomorrow's pride parade in downtown san francisco. >> the ride share service uber is helping gay couples tie the knot for free. people can open the app and select uber wedding. they then pin their location of their ceremony and uber will come by with a notary to make it official. they will also bring a violinist, flowers and champagne. happening today homeless people in san francisco will be able to take a shower on a converted muni bus. the city said an old bus was changed to include two private bathrooms. the bus will be parked at tap street between 16th and 17th in the mission district on saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to noon. next month the bus will head to the bayview and in the tender loin. the project is privately funded

which included a hundred thousand dollar donation from google. safe and sane fireworks go on sale today in dublin. firefighters are asking the public to be careful and aware of the risk of wildfires. legal fireworks can be set off between ten and ten on july 4 july 4th at four city parks. police and firefighters say they will have extra patrols out looking for fireworks that have not been listed as safe and sane and are able to explode or fly through the air. fireworks can also be set off on private party but should be lit at a safe distance. three people have been arrested in a sting targeting thousands of illegal fireworks in the east bay. police set up the sting after seeing ads for fireworks on craigslist. they seized 2500 pounds of illegal fireworks from a car and storage facility in antioch. police say they are professional grade and especially dangerous due to dry conditions from the drought. >> the sad part is that this is just a really small scratch.

it's a drop in the bucket compared to what we think is out there. >> investigators believe that the fireworks were purchased in indiana for six to eight thousand dollars. they could sell for as much as $100,000 here in the bay area. oakland firefighters will be out in force look for fireworks. all fireworks are illegal in the city of oakland and anyone caught selling them can be fined up to a thousand dollars. firefighters are especially concerned about fireworks this year due to the amount of dry brush in the oakland hills. illegal fireworks sparked a fire there last year. >> last year right across the street from my house we had a fire. there was a fireworks that were going on, illegal fireworks and the fire department came by. >> fireworks are only legal in about a dozen bay area cities and we have a link to the list of those cities on ktvu.com. >> the united states men's soccer team is dealing injuries as it prepares for its world cup match on tuesday. the team is practicing hard

morning at lanie college theater. hundreds of supporters are expected to be at the campaign kickoff. she wase electricked electric -- elected in 2010. her campaign said she has focused on creating new jobs, increasing housing and reducing crime. oakland will soon know if it's new campaign is helping tourists. in april visit oakland placed billboards on pandora and took out adas in portland and los angeles the marketing director said she has seen a large boost in website traffic and hotel numbers are up. when the billboards come down the city will study if the 100,000-dollar ad campaign was effective. >> i think it is a surprise to people. people think of us as an urban city. they don't realize we have lakefront and waterfront and redwoods. >> the campaign is funded by measure c hotel tax dollars. >> later this morning abouta

300 children and their families will use pizza to try to break a world record in san francisco. champion pizza tosser is hoping to set the record for the most people tossing pizza dough. it's also a fundraiser for an organization that helps families of seriously ill children. the entire block of stockton street between green and union will be closed for the event. registration arts at 8:15. sales tax officials have put a new rule into effect that will make it easier to pay the sales tax at food trucks. starting july first truck operators will be allowed to include the sims tax on the menu price. this means that customers will no longer have to look for change and truck owners won't have to work out the tax separately. truck owner also have -- just have to figure out what they owe the state later. >> the fee stoppage; the burger bite and the chicken jerky. >> and at 7:30milo's kitchen

from militants linked to isis. iraqi state tv reports fighters have retreated from that city and said 120 militants were killed in the fighting. some militants have denied the report and say that isis fighters remain in control of that city. meanwhile the pentagon said drones are flying over baghdad. >> some of those area craft are armed. the reason that some of those air craft are armed is primarily for force protection reasons. >> iraqi's air force is also launched air strikes in mosul. isis has taken over much of northern and west everyone iraq to try to create an islamic state stretching syria to iraq. a texas man has plead guilty to trying to join the group isis. police say that michael todd wolf was arrested earlier this month at the houston airport and planned to fly to syria where he hoped to join the organization. another man is also accused of

using internet chat rooms to recruit potential terrorists. he is a student at the university of texas. hehe became a united states citizen in 2002. >> the publisher of hillary clinton's new book said the book won't be sold in chain china as they declined to buy translation rights for the book. it also won't be sold in english. he said that's an effective ban on the book. in the book she criticizes the censorship of china and calls it the center of anti democractic movement in asis. the border patrol is moving forward with plans to fly undocumented immigrants from texas to california. this less than a week after some flights were canceled. those were scheduled to take 300 families with children to san diego. some children are also reportedly being bussed to california from texas. >> we have received reports

that some buses have left with illegal immigrants headed for california. >> the border patrol hasn't said what flights will start or how many will be sent to california. the border patrol has made more than 174,000 arrest in the valley since october. many of the undocumented immigrants who have been detained are children fleeing drug violence in central america and they are traveling without their families. >> rescue crews have found the body of a firefighter who went missing after chasing his dog during a backpacking trip he was last seen two weeks ago when he and a friend were hiking. he went missing after his dog ran away and then he wept to go look for it. his dog was found last sunday. authorities say the body was found in a hard to reach area. >> very rough terrain. even when they got close the body was hidden with in the terrain. >> investigators say that his

body was found about three quarters of a mile and 1200 feet above where he was last seen. they were able to make a positive confirmation a cause of death hasn't been released. fireworks thrown from a freeway may have sparked a fire in castro valley. it broke out in the backyard of a home. the home didn't burn and nobody was hurt but smoke from that fire could be seen from interstate 580. neighbors reported hearing the explosion just before that fire started and used garden hose to help put out the fire before firefighters arrived. >> we heard a boom. i came outside and looked out here and saw flames. >> it took about a half hour for firefighters to put that fire out. >> happening today, haywood firefighters are holding a training exercise to teach homeowners how to prepare for wildfires. firefighters say that homeowners can reduce the risk of a fire spreading by creating

defensible space. they recommend clearing brush with in a hundred feet of homes and out buildings and having only fire resistant plant was in 30 feet of a home. the training is scheduled to get started at ten this morning at stone gray elementary on haywood. homeowners in santa clara will receive assessments of their home's taxable value and for some it may be a shock. the assessor's office report the third highest jump in home values in the count yukons's history. that's an increase of $23 billion or almost 7%. homeowner who disagree with how their home value was worked out can request a formalla appeal online. >> three people arrested for arson in san francisco and now we are learning police say they all may not be connected to each other. >> and a man is bitten by a police dog. the policies being looked at after he said he was just a bystander. >> outside, we have partly cloudy skies in some areas, mostly cloudy around the bay, along the coast the clouds will

the overpass but video from overnight show its an suv caught on the edge of the bridge over crossing a police officer found the scene around 11 last night as he drove eastbound. first responders tried to save a baby girl on scene but she later died at the hospital a woman believes to be a driver of one of the vehicles involved died on scene. it was a head on collision between an suv and a larger sedan. investigators are releasing few details at this point. it's not clear if the babb yip was in a car seat or if seatbelts were involved. there were other injuries that -- people were taken from the scene injured. we have not learned their condition. we have calls in to concord, police investigators and try to determine how they are doing at this morning. still not releasing the identity of those victims from the collision overnight. we are told that they are trying to tell next of kin.

live in concord. ktvu channel 2news. >> police have made three arrests in a string of suspicious fires in san francisco. the fires were thought to be the work of a single arsonist. police arrested a man after releasing surveillance video of a suspect in last week's fire at a luxury high rice. the fire in the parking garage of one of the apartment towers damaged a bmw. he appeared in court yesterday and pled not guilty to two felony counts of residential burglar are you and arson. >> any time you have surveillance video its helpful. >> the san francisco chronicle reports two other men have been arrested in connection with a string of trash can fires in the same neighbored movement they don't believe the suspects knew each other and say none of the arsons many appear to be related. >> four families turning the red cross for help after a fire damaged their complex.

it started at two yesterday afternoon. it quickly spread to three other units. dozens of firefighters were called into battle the flames. wind was not a factor but firefighters say that the metal roof made the fire difficult to fight. crews had to evacuate nearby buildings in case the flames spread even further. one neighbor said it only took 15 minutes for the fire to cover the entire complex. >> i saw -- fires the condo on the right side and it started going toward the inside. i just -- went and started knocking. >> nobody was home when the fire broke out. one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation but nobody else was hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> one of the grand marshalls of tomorrow's gay pride parade is a 16-year-old high school student jules guiterrez. she faced battery charges for fighting with classmates who she said bullied her for being transgender. >> with all the negative attention and everything that

grand jury transcripts in the sierra lamar could be made public a woman is charged with kidnapping murdering the morgan hill teenager two years ago. her body has never been found. yesterday a judge ruled that the transcripts can be released to the public but the judge stayed it until july 11th to give attorneys a chance to appeal. >> we will know a lot more about what happened in that time that they were together. the defendant and sierra lamar. we will know about the dna evidence associated with the

they were able to make a positive confirmation through dental records a cause of death hasn't been released. fireworks thrown from a freeway may have sparked a small grass fire in castro valley. it broke out just before 6:30. the home didn't burn and nobody was hurt but smoke from the fire could be seen from interstate 580. neighbors reported hearing on explosion just before the fire started and used a garden hose to help put out the flames before firefighters arrived. it took about a half hour for firefighters to knock down that flyer. >> oyster farm in marin has won a court victory in one of two legal battles. they have accused the oyster farm of a string of violations, drake sued and a judge ruled in favor of them. that lawsuit is separate from the suit against the national park service. that case could go to the supreme court we may know on monday in the court will take that case.

yesterday afternoon at a condo. if quickly spread to three other units. dozens of firefighters were called into battle the flames. wind wasn't a fox for but firefighters say the metal roof made the fire difficult to fight. crews had to evacuate nearby buildings in case the flames spread further. one neighbor said it took 15 minutes for the fire to take over the complex. >> i saw -- from the condo on the right side and it started going toward the inside. i just -- when i started knocking on the door. >> nobody was home when the fire broke out. one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation but nobody else was hurt. >> one of the grand marshalls of tomorrow's gay pride parade is 16-year-old high school student jules guiterrez. she faced battery charges for fighting with classmates who she said bullied her for being transgender. >> with all the negative and everything that was negative it

opportunity to have a shower this morning. 24 people will be served today. you can see the bus. it's converted from a muni bus. they are a san francisco based start up and they will work with the mission neighborhood resource center. we are parked on capp street between sixth and seventh in the mission and it goes until noon. i got a quick chance to look inside. there are two shower stalls, they are private showers. one is ada accessible. you can imagine the front of the bus where you can get a wheelchair onto the bus. all of the seats have been removed. there are toilets and nice facilities. there is a ten minute shower time for a warm shower and then 20 minutes total inside to shave and freshen up. it started as -- a start up project here in sfo. and coming up in the next report we will bring you a look inside that. we will talk to the founder and we will let you know where the

concord, 84. yesterday, 80 degrees, a tad warmer in san francisco, a tad warmer in san jose. you may not notice it so much, but you will by tomorrow, when a big jump in the numbers come and then we peak on honor. i'll show you that climb in the extended forecast, coming up. new this morning, a highway in concord is open again, following a deadly crash that claimed the life of a baby. it happened around 11:00 last night when an suv in a sedan collided head-on near willow pass road on highway 4. a baby and a woman were both killed. five other people have major injuries, but are expected to survive. police are investigating whether alcohol may have been a factor in that crash. antioch police are investigating a shooting that killed a man. this happened around 9:30 last night on sycamore drive. police say they found the man lying on the ground when they responded to a report of shots fired in the area. he was pronounced dead at the scene. so far, no arrests have been made. investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to call the antioch police department. police in oakland are looking for two people who they

say are connected to a suspicious fire in an oakland apartment building. firefighters responded to the flames on east 17th street at about 10:45 last night. they say an explosion of butane gas canisters at the back of the unit may have caused the fire. investigators say two people with possible burn injuries were seen leaving the area. [ indiscernible ] >> the fire was under control in just about 20 minutes, but the building is now too unstable to live in. the red cross is helping residents find another place to stay. fire crews had to treat a dog suffering from burns at the scene, but no other injuries were reported. santa rosa police are asking for help in finding a teenager who has been missing now for a month. police say 14-year-old theresa fletcher ran away from a group home in santa rosa on may 28th. she's described as 5' 8, 170 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair, and with blonde highlights. police say she has a tattoo of a flower outlined on her right

hip. pride weekend is under way in san francisco. the theme of this year's event is color our world with pride. the focus is on fighting discrimination around the world. yesterday, hundreds of people participated in the annual transgender march. about 1 million people are expected to be at all the parades, parties and other festivities for pride weekend. many of them are visiting here from out of town. >> it's part of the attraction of the city. >> lot easier for us to walk down the city and say, hey, nice to meet you, this is my wife. >> some castro district business owners say pride weekend is their busiest time of the year. it is a symbol of gay pride and unity and it is now in place in san francisco. yesterday, hundreds of volunteers started installing the famous pink triangle on twin peaks. it's a symbol for gay people who are persecuted and killed in concentration camps in nazi, germany. supporters say it's important to remember that past while working towards a better future. at 10:30 this morning, san francisco mayor ed lee and

other city leaders will speak at a commemoration ceremony there. and here are some of the other gay pride events happening this weekend. the annual dike march and rally begins on delores street at 4:00 p.m. at 5:00, the pink saturday street party starts in the castro. of course it all leads up to tomorrow's pride parade in downtown san francisco. in honor of pride week, the rideshare service uber is helping couples tie the knot today for free. people can open the uber app and select uber wedding. they then pin the location of their ceremony and uber will come by with a notary to make the vehicle wedding official. uber will also bring a violinist, flowers, even some champagne. well, the uc system is reportedly considering banning employees from taking uber or lift on business trips. the ban would also aplay to air b and b rentals. the san francisco chronicle reports talk of the ban comes after uc officials raised concerns about liability and less regulation for ridesharing

companies. lieutenant governor gavin newsom opposes the ban, saying the uc system could likely save money by using ridesharing services. he also says the uc system should support innovation. starting today, homeless people in san francisco will be able to take a shower on a converted muni bus. ktvu's katie utehs is live in san francisco with details on how this project got started. katie? >> reporter: good morning, allie. we all know how great it feels to have a fresh shower. so far, the response has been spectacular. you see behind me, that's the lava mae shower bus. we're here on 16th near cap. so far, 10 people have had a shower and about 24 people will be able to do so this morning. it is the only mobile shower service in the city. the goal is to serve about 50% of the homeless population that lives on the street here in san francisco. you can see, it is a converted muni bus. let me show you a look inside. you can see, there are shower stalls, a toilet and a sink.

the showers are about 10 minutes each, warm shower, warm water shower. then a total of 20 minutes inside the unit. the front portion of the bus is wheelchair accessible so they are able to get someone in with a wheelchair if need be. you can imagine the seats pull out and two shower units within the bus. founder denise sandoval explains where she came up with the idea. >> i found out about the appalling lack of showers and toilets available to homeless in the city. there's only seven drop-in centers where the homeless can go and take a shower. you're pretty much using faucets, water fountain, or nothing at all. >> reporter: lava mae pays for the water used. they are connected to a city hydrant and the water also goes back into the city's water disposal system. they have a system that breaks apart sewage versus clean water. the program is funded by local organizations and is also a finalist for a large google

grant. like i said, so far, the reaction from homeless people who have come and used the bus has been positive so far. coming up in our next report, we'll let you know about efforts to expand the program and convert more muni buses. live in san francisco, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2news. safe and seen fireworks go on sale in dublin. firefighters are asking the public to be careful and be aware of the risk of wildfires. legal fireworks can be set off on july 4th at four city parks. police and firefighters say they will have extra patrols out, looking for fireworks that have not been listed as so- called safe and sane fireworks. there are concerns fireworks are capable of exploding or flying through the air. fireworks can also be set off on private property, but should be lit at a safe distance from buildings and dry brush. three people have been arrested in a sting targeting thousands of illegal fireworks in the east bay. police set up the sting after seeing ads for the fireworks on

craigslist. they seized 2500 pounds of illegal fireworks from a car and storage facility in antioch. police say the fireworks are professional grade and especially dangerous this year due to dry conditions from the drought. >> the sad part is that this is just a really small scratch. it's a drop in the bucket compared to what we think is out there. >> investigators believe the fireworks were originally purchased in indiana for 6000 to $8000. they could sell for as much as $100,000 here in the bay area. oakland firefighters will be out in force looking for fireworks. all fireworks are illegal in the city of oakland. anyone caught setting them off can face fines up to $1000. firefighters are especially concerned about fireworks this year due to the amount of dry brush out there in the oakland hills. last summer, illegal fireworks sparked a fire. >> last year, right across the street from my house, we had, we had a fire. there was fireworks going on,

caught trying to cross the border from texas to california. the announcement comes less than a week after some flights were canceled. those flights were scheduled to take 300 families with children to san diego and el centro, california. some children are reportedly being bussed to california as well. >> we've received unconfirmed reports that some buses have left with illegal aliens headed for california. >> the border patrol has not said when flights will begin or how many undocumented immigrants will be sent to california. but the border patrol has made more than 174,000 arrests in the texas rio grande valley since october. many of the undocumented immigrants who have been detained are children fleeing drug violence in central america and those children are traveling without their families. rescue crews have found the body of the firefighter who went missing after chasing his dog during a backpacking trip. 36-year-old mike herden was last seen two weeks ago when he and a friend were hiking in the los padres national forest. investigators say he went missing after his dog ran off

central valley. we're not going to see any 90s for today. when i come back, i'll put some numbers on the screen for you, show you what to expect in your neighborhood, and talk about this warming trend that will eventually take us to near the century mark, coming up. this morning, a highway in concord is back open following a deadly crash that claimed the life of a baby. it happened around 11:00 last night when an suv and a sedan collided head-on near willow pass road on highway 4. a baby and a woman were both killed. five other people were seriously injured, but are expected to survive. police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. police have made three arrests in a string of suspicious fires in san francisco's selma neighborhood. the fires were originally thought to be the work of a single arsonist. police arrested one man after releasing surveillance video of a suspect in last week's fire at a luxury high-rise. the fire in the parking garage of the apartment towers damaged a bmw. the suspect appeared in court yesterday and pled not guilty

to two felony counts of residential burglary and arson. >> any time you have surveillance video, it's going to be very helpful to the prosecution of the case. >> the san francisco chronicle reports two other men have also been arrested in connection with the string of garbage can fires in the neighborhood. police do not believe the suspects knew each other and say none of the arsons appear to be related. four families in south san jose are turning to the red cross for help, after a fire badly damaged their condo complex. the fire started at about 2:00 yesterday afternoon at a condominium on warring drive and quickly spread to three other units. dozens of firefighters were called in to battle the flames. now, wind was not a factor, but firefighters say the metal roof on the building made the fire difficult to fight. crews had to evacuate nearby buildings in case the flames spread even further. one neighbor said it took only 15 minutes for the fire to engulf the entire complex. >> i saw it from the condominium on the right side and slowly started going toward

the inside. i went and started knocking on the doors. >> luckily, no one was home when the fire broke out. one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation, but no one else was injured. the cause is under investigation. happening now, homeless people in san francisco will be able to take a shower on a converted muni bus. ktvu's katie utehs is live this morning in the city of san francisco with details on how this project all got started. katie? >> reporter: mike, first i want to tell you about a man i just spoke with. he was about to shower and he told me that he would be happy to talk to us, but he didn't want to do the interview before the shower because he was dirty and felt embarrassed. he's happy to talk to us afterwards. that shows you the power of this bus and how meaningful it is to people, lava mae is a converted muni bus. it has two shower stalls on it. i want to show you the inside. those are two private bathrooms. imagine the seats pulled out of a muni bus. we've all been on one of those buses. you can see how large it is. the front part of the bus is an

ada-accessible shower stall, so you can imagine if someone needs to get on the bus with a wheelchair, they can do so with the lift ramp the same way that you hop onto a muni bus. there are shower locations for the homeless in the city, but this is the first mobile unit. the goal is to reach half of the people living on the street. we spoke with the founder about the moment she came up with the idea. >> i talked to a young woman on the street one day. she was homeless and dirty and she kept saying over and over that she would never be clean. i knew that meant a lot of things i would never understand. but i wondered what had that meant for her superficially. i went home that night and did some research and found out about the appalling lack of showers and toilets. >> reporter: from there, she thought if gourmet food trucks can be made to roll around the city, why not a shower bus? hence, lava mae was born. the water is paid for by the organization. they are hooked up to a city

fire hydrant, so this is a collaboration with the city and many other organizations. the goal is to convert more muni buses into showers, but of course they will need to secure the funding to do that. so far, though, this launch of the lava mae shower bus has been positive. they have served at least 10 people and hope to serve about two dozen today. if the program goes well, you'll see it throughout the city. live in san francisco, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2news. a symbol of gay pride and unity is now in place in san francisco. yesterday, volunteers started installing the famous pink triangle. it is a symbol for gay people who are persecuted and killed in concentration camps in nazi, germany. supporters say it's important to remember the past while working towards a better future. in an hour from now, san francisco mayor ed lee and other city leaders will take part in a commemoration ceremony at that site. >> with all the negativity and everything that was negative, it got switched around and got

put into positive and now i'm, like, on the top. >> the charges against gutierrez were eventually dropped. she said she was honored just to be nominated to be a grand marshall and she was thrilled that she was chosen. parade organizers say there will be a record number of floats rolling along the parade route this year at pier 54. 23 floats are just about ready to be displayed for the big pride parade. the parade's creative director says that's the most floats created in the parade history. now, several streets will be blocked off for tomorrow's parade. it starts at market and beal at 10:30 in the morning. the parade goes up market to 8th street near city hall, where festivities will wrap up. we have posted more information on the parade and other events for pride weekend on ktvu.com. just scroll down and look for hot topics. a unanimous vote as approved a $76 million suicide barrier for the golden gate bridge. the bridge board of directors made the decision yesterday in front of dozens of friends and family who have lost loved ones on the bridge.

made public. that could lead to the murder trial being moved. antolin garcia-torres is charged with kidnapping and murdering the morgan hill teenager two years ago. her body has never been found. yesterday, a san jose judge ruled the grand jury transcripts can be released to the public, but the judge stayed the ruling until july 11 to give attorneys a chance to appeal. >> so we're going to know a lot more about what occurred in that time that they were together, the defendant and sierra lamar. we're going to know more about the dna evidence associated with the case. >> defense attorneys oppose the release of the transcripts, arguing that the details could prejudice the jury. prosecuters say it could lead to a request for a change of venue. in oakland, a judge is refusing to dismiss the murder charges in a case of a man accused of killing an investigator for the public defender's office. the attorney representing 57- year-old randy alana had argued the prosecution's case was weak and circumstantial. alana is accused of killing 50- year-old sandra coke last year. he is the father of her

daughter. her body was found off of interstate 80 in vacaville last august. alana has a long criminal history and had been under orders to stay away from coke. a south bay postal service inspector accused of stealing mail is being held this weekend in jail without bond. a hearing is set for monday to determine whether 52-year-old kwan howard can be released. he's in custody on charges including mail theft, possession of stolen mail, and destroying u.s. mail. he works at the san jose processing and distribution center. several years ago, he actually received an award for being a top employee. now, members of the public say he betrayed their trust. >> mail is personal, you know. people send it out and expect it to get to where it's supposed to go. when something like this happens, somebody in authority like this, really makes me mad. >> if convicted, howard faces up to 20 years in federal prison. california voters could soon decide if certain nonviolent crimes should be reduced from felonies to

misdemeanors. yesterday, the secretary of state announced she certified the safe neighborhood and schools act for the november ballot. san francisco district attorney george gascon, one of the sponsors of the initiative, says the state could save up to $250 million a year by not sending low level criminals to prison. if approved, some of the money saved would be ear marked for schools and mental health programs. some school districts are already supporting the measure. >> we know when we do invest in our kids at these younger ages it, can make the difference throughout their entire school career and on into their adult life. >> san francisco district attorney george gascon says violent criminals will not benefit from the safe neighborhood and schools act. right now, there is no organized opposition campaigning against the measure. a stockton couple is asking the public for their help, after their twin boys were born without eyes. jamison and jackson were born on may 2 to summer holdings worth and michael lopez. jamison was born with one eye and his brother jackson, who
