now at noon -- we're learning more details about a horrific crime in san jose involving a sexual assault home invasion and police chase and one of the suspects is still on the loose. u.s. marshals say several murder suspects are now off bay area streets following a five- day sweep in several cities, including oakland and vallejo. and for a second day in a row, another confrontation between police and squatters at a vacant building in vallejo.

good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. a disturbing and violent crime in the south bay this morning has police officers on the hunt for an intruder. they say one man and a teenaged accomplice broke into a home, sexually assaulted an elderly woman, and then crashed the stolen vehicle into another house. ktvu's janine de la vega joins us live from san jose to tell us if police are closer to locating the one suspect still on the loose. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. right now, police are interviewing a 15-year-old boy that they arrested earlier this afternoon. they say he was with the other intruder when they broke into a home and this neighborhood near capitol expressway and ocala. they are hoping he identifies the other suspect because right now that person is considered dangerous. police officers spent nearly six hours at a home on sun shadow lane on the east side. they say the elderly couple who lived there was terrorized by two intruders at around 4:00

a.m. >> two suspects entered the home armed with weapons. they were forced to the back of the house. at some point, the 85-year-old female was sexually assaulted. >> reporter: police say the two intruders then stole the suv. a chp officer spotted the vehicle speeding on highway 101 near tully and tried to stop it. a short pursuit resulted and the suv crashed into a vacant home at center and singleton. officers took the passenger into custody. the driver ran away. officers did a yard-to-yard search but were up able to locate him. neighbors are shaken. >> right now i'm feeling so disgusted with the people who did this. this couple -- like i said, they are so sweet. and to think they did this to her is just -- it's craziness. >> reporter: the husband was not injured. he left the home. his wife is at the hospital. police say at this point, they believe the couple is not

targeted, that this was random. they are looking into the possibility that the intruders have gang ties. police collected evidence at the home and inside the suv that they hope will lead them to the other intruder involved in this horrific crime. >> it really tears as you and turns your stomach. it's not an investigation that anybody wants to have to deal with. >> reporter: police say they did find signs of forced entry in the back of the home, a shed in the backyard was found tagged with graffiti that appears to be gang-related. officers have a very vague description of the second pk. they say he's -- suspect. they say he's a latino man between 17 and 25 years old. they believe he has a laceration on his body. now, they do need to interview the elderly woman who was assaulted but they know this has been incredibly traumatizing for her so they are giving her time. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. livermore police are looking for more children who

may have been victimized by a school supervisor and youth karate teacher. last friday, 340-year-old jot was arrest -- 30-year-old jason quero was arrested for assaulting a student back in 2010. the girl reported the alleged molestation last week. he was a campus supervisor at livermore valley charter school and also caught karate classes and worked for the aroyia school campus between 2001 and 2005. >> we're not ruling out the idea of additional victims but we don't have anything that's pointing to additional vims. we're hoping parents will talk to their kid. >> he was fired last week. police are asking anyone who thinks their child may have been a victim to come forward. oakland police have now launched a new section on their website. it's part of an effort to crack down on sex trafficking. it shows the mugshots of people who have been arrested and

charged with soliciting prostitutes or related crimes but not convicted and it includes their names, dates of birth and addresses. we talked to some people this morning and asked them what they think about the new website. >> i don't approve of that. the person is basically not guilty until proven innocent. >> i think they will just find another avenue. there's always the internet, you know, it's -- they gotta start somewhere. >> last week, oakland police, the district attorney's office and the fbi announced the results of a sweep that led to the rescue of six teenagers who have been lured into the sex trafficking business. more than 100 people with outstanding warrants are off the streets after a sweep across northern california. it included several cities here in the bay area. alex savidge joins us live from the newsroom with the background on this operation. good afternoon, alex. >> tori, good afternoon to you. it all kicked off two weeks ago and wrapped up this past weekend. the marshals were targeting people wanted for a variety of

crimes including several people who were arrested for homicide. federal agents teamed up with at least 15 local police departments including oakland. in the end, 104 people were arrested. the marshals have not said what types of charges all of those people are facing but we do understand there were some homicide suspects and others taken in for violent crimes. weapons were seized. a lieutenant says officers confiscated a total of nine guns. we're told the u.s. marshals will be offering more details about this sweep at some point later on this afternoon. we will have an update for you on the ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. more about that sweep. live this afternoon in the newsroom, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you. sonoma county sheriff's deputies arrested a san jose mother for leaving her children in her car while she went into a casino. investigators say a deputy found two children inside a

honda in the parking structure of the graton casino. the keys were in the ignition. the children's mother was located inside the casino and arrested on child endangerment charges. she told investigators that she planned to be in the casino for a few minutes and did not want to bring her 10-year-old and 1- year-old inside because the baby was sleeping. an incredible scene in richmond after this suv slammed into a home on spring street. police say the driver lost control, crashing through the fence and ending up in front of the home. the driver is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs and the passenger in the suv ran away. there were people inside the home. but none of them were injured. the driver suffered minor injuries. vallejo police are, once again, trying to secure an old navy building on mare island that's known as a haven for the homeless and a magnet for

crime, officers used a megaphone to lure people out of the building around 8:15 this morning. two people emerged and were taken into custody. this is the second day in a row police cleared and secured the building. before police arrived, a ktvu news crew spoke with one man leaving the building. he says about 30 people live there. some because they have no other place to go. others because they are up to no good. >> it's bad. it's -- that building is bad. it's evil. there's -- every drug addict, alcohol, criminal. the worst are coming just to stay there because they know they can. >> police sent us this video of the inside. they say it is in deplorable condition with trash, dirty needles, feces and other hazard. they say it's been this way for 15 years. neighbors want it torn down. the city says it's looking into the option. today the oakland unified

school district introduced its new superintendent. antwan wilson was an assistant superintendent of denver public schools. he worked to improve graduation rates there and to get students to attend college. at a press conference this morning, wilson said he was raised by a single mother who expected him to go to college. >> from a very early age, i had it modeled for me and expressed upon me that i would go to college and i will graduate. i always remember that being the perspective. >> wilson takes over the job from dr. gary yee who served for a year while the district searched for a permanent superintendent. the district has struggled with low graduation rates, high truancy and a declining enrollment. the university of california launched a system wide initiative to help solve the problem of global hunger. uc president, janet napolitano, unveiled the new global food initiative this morning in

berkeley. the former homeland security chief said ten uc campuses will unite their resources to intensify and expand efforts to tackle the problem. that includes focusing on things like scarcity, sustainability, climate change and obesity. she says she wants the uc system to become a global leader where food is concerned. >> what we want to do is take the power of the university and focus it like a laser on one of the world's big problems and with the chancelers of all of the campuses, we select the food. >> she said there are 7 billion people in the world and 1 billion go to bed hungry every night. one of the first steps to grant three fellowships per campus for students working on a project related to the problem of food. barry bonds is headed back to court to appeal his conviction.

the 9th circuit court of appeals ruled they will reconsideration the conviction. bonds was accused of giving evasive testimony during the investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs. he's already served a 30-day house arrest sentence and paid a $4,000 fine. no date has been set yet for the hearing. and we're learning that 49ers linebacker aldon smith will not be charged for allegedly making a false bomb threat at los angeles international airport back in april. the l.a. city attorney's office tells ktvu in lieu of a criminal filing, the office will hold a hearing to discuss the matter later this month. the 24-year-old smith still facings a sentencing hearing on weapons and drunk driving charges from two unrelated incidents. now that we're in the second half of the year, several bay area transit agencies including a.c. transit and golden gate transit are implements big changes. what this means for passengers

a lot of excitement. in 45 minute, the u.s. men's soccer team takes on belgium in the world cup. the day's first match just wrapped up with argentina squeaking by switzerland 1-0 in extra time. fans are getting in position in san francisco's civic center plaza to watch the big game on the screen. that's where we find ktvu's claudine wong. it looks like it's already bebe hind you -- behind you. >> reporter: yes, and the crowd is growing. a lot of red, white and blue. everyone very excited. people are getting ready and excited. i i want to bring in these individuals. we talk about this whole event. let's start with you. this is a parks and rec kind of event here. what are you hoping out of

cup in your gear, share your photos by posting them to our facebook page or tweet us. several transit changes are going into effect today. for a.c. transit riders, today marks the end of paper transfers. the transit agency is using unlimited use all-day passes that cost $5. a.c. transit says it will take less time for people to board the bus. it's also expected to save the agency money by eliminating fraud from transfers. anyone using a clipper card will automatically have the all- day pass. and prices for golden gate transit and ferry are increasing today. bus fares go up between 25 cents and 50 cents. but there's no change to marin county local fares. and rides on the sausalito and larkspur ferries will cost 25 cents more. fares for clipper cardholders will not increase as much on some routes. former san francisco mayor willie brown is being credited with breaking the impact in the muni contract talks.

last night, union members met for an emergency meeting to review the tentative agreement that was formal little announced yesterday -- formally announced yesterday. muni operators get a 14% raise over three years. but it could still be a tough sell to many rank and file muni workers. >> sounds like they don't want to give us anybody. there's a difference between the people who were here before and the people who just came in. >> you are not happy with it? >> no no. >> i'm cautiously optimistic. i think it's a great sign that we got to a point that the union leadership seems happy with. it's a deal that works for us. it's a deal that seems to work for them. >> workers are scheduled to vote on the proposal next week. the tentative agreement came after contentious negotiations and a three-day sickout one month ago. fairfield firefighters are warning people about the dangers of fireworks after

sparklers ignited a grass fire. it was reported at 9:30 last flight on waterman boulevard not far from a trailer park. a firefighter found sparklers near where the fire began. they say although types of fireworks are illegal in the city, but the dry conditions this year make them especially dangerous. no doubt it's dry but it's significantly cooler. in 24 hours, some areas are as much as 15 to 21 degrees cooler. why? well, our good friend, the fog, came back and it came flying back. there's a good westerly breeze behind that. but the fog was racing up and down the coast. it's in there and will be in there probably until the weekend and then it will mix out sooner. this morning and into this afternoon, cooler, breezy to

windy. you can see some of the fog hugging most of the coast. not all of it. there's always pockets that get some sun. yesterday we were fog-free taking the turn past monterey. it didn't take long overnight. it settled in, concord is 17 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. most. look at napa airport gusting to 25 miles per hour. a little bit of a southerly breeze. fairfield still gusting to 31. all morning long they've had the delta breeze out to suisun and pittsburgh. a westerly wind at hayward and pittsburg. san jose showing that as well. there's still some 80s. i mean, i think this is the higher elevation, the wul one. 77 con-- the walnut creek one. 77 concord. it's still warm but not as warm as yesterday. up north you can still find high temperatures. lake county probably take another day but it's really tough to cool down. anginn, 75. calistoga, 72.

petaluma, low 70s. sebastopol, all in the 80ss, near 90. fog will continue to ramp up the coast. the higher clouds have cleared the area. they are gone but the fog isn't. 85 in ukiah. still hot probably not the 103 they had yesterday. 92 in reno. it's warm up in tahoe and truckee. but the fog and low clouds are cooling us down. sunny, more sunshine today than we had yesterday. we had the tropical clouds. it will be breezy to windiy. cooler to most. it looks like a normal pattern from now into the 4th. there will be warmer temperatures developing on the inland locations as we head toward saturday and also sunday. 90s for some but a lot of 70s and 80s in areas that were closer to 100 yesterday. especially out towards antioch, brentwood and oakley, livermore, danville, walnut creek, concord. you and i know it was a little hot yesterday. >> it was steaming. >> oakland, 70. 81 san jose.

u.s. stocks venturing into record territory starting the second half of the year. traders enkurnged by reports that -- encouraged by reports of expansion. the dow is up 151. the nasdaq is also up 55. s&p, 1975, up 15. the maker of spamm is diversifying its business with the purchase of a bay area company that makes muscle milk. they are acquiring the company out of benicia to tap into the demand by younger consumers or sports nutrition products. muscle milk has big named endorsements including one by steph curry. the 49ers have now told out their first season at levi stadium. about 70% of season ticketholders bought seats in
