word of a shooting in san francisco this hour. officers responded to reports of shots fired at connecticut and 25th street at 3:35 p.m. this afternoon. two victims drove themselves to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. police have not made any arrests and at this point we don't know who was shot. we will bring you the latest as soon as we get any new information. new at 5:00 p.m. a new class of recruits became officers today in oakland.

many speak another language. it is possible they will have an extra police academy this year. two girls are recovering from burns after a backyard fire pit exploded. the explosion happened at 10:15 p.m. las night. six girls were sitting around the pit when it exploded. two girls were taken to the hospital. no word on what caused the explosion. preparations are underway for the 4th of july fireworks show. this year the city's display will be launched from four barges at two locations simultaneous. two will be at the end of peer 39. the other two near the municipal peer. he needed a month to design the show and is two days to set it

and i never met him. >> witnesses said it appeared strange that he made a phone call in the moments right after his son was pulled from the car. authorities also said he used his home community to -- computer to search about kids left in cars and his friends say they loved him and talked about him a lot. the judge in the case found probable cause which means murder and child cruelty charges will go to the grand jury. officials announced dna evidence linked a 46-year-old taxi driver behind bars to the rape of a 19-year-old woman 10 years ago. he was arrested on suspicion of attempting to rape a woman in a remote area in april. investigators say he was driving a taxi cab when he picked up the victim. dna samples ended up matching evidence from a 2004 rape.

crews are trying to figure out how a circuit breaker brought down a 911 system. they suddenly had no phone service. ktvu's john fowler reports from san jose on this first ever failure and who was effected. >> reporter: 250,000 people in santa clara county rely on emergency dispatch from this center. at 10:30 p.m. last night this battery failed. the whole system went down. >> it is scary. the kids, an emergency, at least now they are on their toes and know what to do. >> reporter: emergency crews brought in portable radios, dispatchers had no computer maps and talked to sheriff,

a former san jose teacher wanted for child pornography charges was arrested at sfo this week. the 45-year-old was taken into custody yesterday after his flight arrived from vietnam. he had a warrant after he was charged in march of last year for possesses and distributing child pornography. after his arrest he was turned over to san jose police.
