yesterday. a man with a knife and a group of people attacking each other right here. >> reporter: this video starts off with a man laying on the hood of his truck. another man comes from behind the door. police say so far they haven't received calls about the video. >> a mob attacking this loan motorist. and then you see the motorist coming out with a weapon. >> reporter: i spoke with several workers off camera who witnessed the incident. some say they are troubled and disturbed. others say he was only drying to defend himself -- trying to defend himself. >> one thing to chase after somebody with a weapon as we saw. both parties were in the wrong. >> reporter: since the video starts, police say it is hard

to say what led up to the chain of events. officers say what the man should have done was stayed in his vehicle or leave the scene and call 911. >> a dangerous situation. you know, you don't want to engage with people. you don't know what weapons the suspect might have as well. >> reporter: police say a crime was committed. if you know anything about this incident or have seen the video and you were here call san francisco police. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. a student has been attacked at the university village. the 27-year-old man was standing about 3:00 p.m. yesterday when he was approached. the suspect pulled out a knife. the student was punched several times but he will be okay. his attacker took off. the suspect is a white man in his 40s, 5'10", with a thin

build. several upper teeth missing. a dangerous combination has firefighters worried about the holiday weekend. this is what they fear. a grass fire sparked by fireworks. this burned an acre last night in antioch. the contra costa county fire district said pittsburg is the capital of illegal fireworks. ktvu's tom vacar joins us now from pittsburg with the fear fireworks creates. >> reporter: officials are pinning their hopes on the fact that this free fireworks show which is legal, in the water front will work out better than last year. >> reporter: this huge cash of illegal fireworks will not be able to threaten property in pittsburg but it is just to

money maker for them. an accident involving a chp patrol car caused a major back up during a holiday get away. the california highway patrol says a chp car and another car got into a accident on eastbound i-80 near university avenue at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon this is the ashby exit. if you pan up. the next exit is the university exit. the crash blocked the two left lanes for two hours. you are seeing the result there. the bridge at the top, that is the university exit. the california highway patrol tells us an officer and three other people were taken to the hospital. no word on the conditions but from this live camera we can see the accident scene has been cleared up. traffic very heavy as folks head home for the long holiday weekend. here is a look across the bay at highway 101 in san francisco. hospital curve. the lanes on the left, heading

to the bay bridge. it is backed up as folks head out for the holiday weekend. caltrans says the closure of interstate 280 will be effecting traffic all weekend. last night crews shut down the north bound lanes from 101 to kings treat near at&t park. workers are replacing hinges on the freeway. the lanes will be reopened by 5:00 a.m. monday morning. crews are preparing san francisco's big fireworks show. we got a peak of crews loading fireworks on to barges. there will be four barnes that two locations -- barges at two locations launching fireworks. a total of 10,000 devices. it begins at 9:30 p.m. tomorrow morning. >> www.ktvu.com has a full list of events around the bay area. under hot topics. it was a close call at a beach in santa cruz when a

toddler found a used needle in the sand. it happened earlier this week. he was building a sand castle on the beach when he came across the needle. the father says it was there and says he didn't actually touch the needle but his mother said the discovery is unsettling. >> it is upsetting. it makes me angry. it is not something a parent should have to worry about. not something anyone should have to worry about it. i can't imagine how i would feel if he got stuck. >> this isn't the first time dirty needles have been found at beaches. a man stepped on a needle two weeks ago and in february dozens were found along the shoreline. it looked like the a's 10 year lease extension would not pass the oakland-alameda county coliseum joint powers authority then a late move by the team

and major league baseball threw officials for a loop. ktvu's john sasaki reports the oakland-alameda county coliseum joint powers authority voted to pass the lease agreement but it doesn't guarantee the team will be here for 10 years. >> the a's are at home tonight against the blue jays and since the vote by the oakland-alameda county coliseum joint powers authority the word home may have a new ring to it. >> this city deserves this team. our fans are amazing. they have been so good. you know for, the years. >> reporter: oakland-alameda county coliseum joint powers authority voted to approve this lease extension. >> gets us closer to keeping the a's here and that is extremely important. >> reporter: even this morning it looked like officials would scutthal agreement. it guarantee -- scutthal agreement. it guarantees they will stay till 2017 and requires $15 million in fees. the city wanted 21 million and

two extra years. >> agreement that has been structured comes a long way to achieving the goals but it does not close them. >> reporter: last night they received word from the a's and major league baseball the team could immediately find a new home if the lease failed to pass. >> i feel a lot of muscle from major league baseball. >> reporter: fans want the fans to stay but they are angly believing the league strong armed the oakland-alameda county coliseum joint powers authority. >> we shouldn't be bullied by major league baseball. >> at the same time there is another financial impact, job creation, the visibility of the city that we never talk about. >> reporter: this will remain home through 2017 if they vote to approve this agreement. a special meeting on the topic is set for monday. in oakland, john sasaki, ktvu

transportation to the hospital. a neighbor says 10 shots were fired and described one of the victims as 14-year-old boy. that information has not been confirmed by police. scary morning for a family in antioch after a 11-year-old boy was shot. he ran to family for help till paramedics arrived. there are questions about how the boy was shot. ktvu's katy eustis is live after talking to the boy's family. >> the boy is doing fine, but investigators releasing few details. we know it happened somewhere at or near the apartment complex because the boy was able to run and ask for help after being shot. >> reporter: a summer morning interrupted by gunfire. >> it is scary. no kids outside playing. >> reporter: his cousin was shot around 11:00 a.m. at antioch river town place apartment complex. >> everything was fast for him.

of a art project called we are all homeless. he bought four signs this morning from people who were happy about sharing their stories and signs with him. >> they seem to be excited about contributing to this project. and they are happy to make money. >> he has been buying homeless signs for 20 years and he turns them into exhibits to raise awareness about homelessness. she in san francisco for -- he is in san francisco for two days. a gravely ill oakland boy fulfilled a dream today thanks to the oakland police department. >> ktvu's rob roth reports from the police academy graduation ceremony where adults learned a lot about bravery from a little boy. >> reporter: this boy is living his dream today. emilio penn always wanted to be an oakland police officer.
