all off. how did they score that? >> yeah. >> the sun is up and shining. coming up from the east we do have mostly sunny skies for our inland east bay. you get closer to the coast and a gray start. we have a weak system that will continue our on shore breeze for today. the marine layer just as thick as yesterday. i'm seeing it compressed just a little bit. but in any case, mostly sunny skies away from the coast today. i think temperatures will come in slightly warmer than what we have for your thursday. take a look the low clouds here. the low clouds will continue to hug the coast for most of the day in some areas like pacifica and half-moon bay and partly cloudy skies for you. the on shore breeze fairfield, 14 miles an hour, 22 miles an hour gusts reported here. so this type of wind helps to offset that heating in the afternoon for inland areas. 57 at fairfield right now. 59 in antioch. upper 50s walnut creek.

approach the high-rise. a reminder the northbound lane of interstate 280 are closed in san francisco from highway 101 to king street. again that will be shut down throughout the holiday weekend. the lanes are expected to reopen at 5:00 a.m. on monday. at 6:02 here is tori. >> thank you, brian. extreme drought and fire,s, a dangerous come -- and fire works, a dangerous combination. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. right now there are very foggy conditions here in the oakland hills but there is a lot of dry brush. we know firefighters are concerned. so they along with the police will be beefing up their patrols to crack down on illegal fire works. the city had a pyre works related fire. firefighters tweeted a photo of it on havens court. this is where it happened.

crews quickly extinguished the flames. earlier last night oakland's fire chief held a fire police town hope. one neighbor urged them to call police. >> it is such a -- so we will be eaching autoo a state lawmakers. >> reporter: people in the neighborhoods say they will be on high alert. that is because an arsonist has been on the loose there. investigators say that half a dozen fires were intentionally set over a four-day stretch mid june. obviously the drought conditions have head this a tough year for the fire fight. chief theresa reid says her departments extra presence will serve as a deterrent hopefully from folks thinking about setting off fire works. live from the oakland hills i'm

tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. thank you. for the first time in six years there will be fire works jose. san jose donated $120,000 to help provide the show. most of the money was rs show setting after their own illegal fire works. preparations are already under -- two barges will be near the municipal pier, the two others close to pier 39. the show will include 30,000 pounds of explosives. including one display that looks like an octopus. the show starts at 9:30 tonight. our web team has put together a list of all the fourth of july

celebrations in the bay area. you can find it under ktvu.com. the chicken is being recalled. the concern is it's still sitting in your fridge at home. foster farms was not required to issue a recall because no specific illness could be directly tied to its product. well, that has changed. the u.s. department of agricultural says it has conclusive evidence linking the hospitalization of a ten-year- old boy from california and his consumption of one of foster farms chicken products. one man says even with the recall, he's not too concerned.

>> with my large family, i'm looking for the deals. and foster farms is a good brand. i feel safe. >> foster farms issued the following statement. this recall is prompted by a single illness associated with fresh chicken product. they have broadened the recall. the recall does impact 170 different chicken products. they have used or freeze by dates of march 21st to march 29th. they were sold in many west coast states. we have more details on the west coast including the plant codes. live in the newsroom mike mibach ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 6:07. bay area law enforcement agencies will be out in force today for the annual holiday crash down on drunk driving. the fourth of july is the

deadliest day of the year for american drivers. many of the deaths are caused by drunk drivers. and police and chp officers will be out watching out for drivers that had too much to drink. there will also be a number of dui check points in the bay area tonight. cal tran is reminding holiday drivers to for backups. a similar project shut down the southbound lanes during the memorial day holiday. >> the traffic is probably going to be a lot greater because it is a longer holiday. the holiday falls on a friday. >> cal trans is urging people heading into san francisco this weekend to use mass transit the northbound lanes of 280 are scheduled to reopen at 5:00 on monday morning. a former elementary schoolteacher wanted in a child

pornography investigation is being held at the santa clara county jail. nathan was arrested at sfo wednesday night. san jose police first arrested him last year. a judge in southern california has delayed next week's schedule release of the pillow case rapist. he has admitted of raping and assaulting 40 women including 15 here in the bay area. he's been in a mental hospital since his release from prison. we have more details now on an airline security threat we told you about earlier this week. foreign airlines with direct

flights to the u.s. have been told to tighten screenings of cell phones and shoes because of new intelligence showing an increased threat. the concern is that al qaeda bomb makers have figured out how to turn cell popes into explosive devices that can avoid detection. and there are new hard to detect bombs being built into shoes. foreign airlines or airports that fail to strengthen security could face bans on flights entering the u.s.. many people getting ready for the fourth of july celebrations across the bay area. i want to go to a live look in the beautiful town of danville where people have staked their spots. in 20 minutes we will tell you about the other places you can go. >> and a south bay grass fire flairs up again. days after it started. next the extra help now on

san francisco police are investigates another violent incident near last sunday's gay

pride celebration. this is video from worldstarhiphop.com. someone was lying on the top of the hood there. the driver gets out with something in his hand and chases one. the driver is kicked and hit several times. the incident was never reported to them. the video was not show what lead up to the confrontation. officers working on sunday night heard gunshots. they saw a man trying to shoot over his shoulder while running. police identified him as 18- year-old qualmy williams from oakland. robert smith of hayward was also arrested after witnesses identified him as another shooter. and police also arrested a 15- year-old from antioch who they say was running with a gun. a 22-year-old woman was shot in the wrist and a taxi was also hit by gunfire.

the san jose fire department will have 12 additional firefighters on duty this fourth of july weekend with increasing concern over the fire danger presented by extremely dry conditions. yesterday fire crews rushed to put out a fire along coyote creek. it was a flairup from a bigger fire there on monday. the cause of the fire has not been officially determined but a worker at the golf course believes he knows how it started. >> i thought the homeless people started another fire. you know. they cook down there a lot. as a matter of fact, the fire on monday you could hear the propane bottles exploding. >> the san jose fire department would not say if it believes the homeless encampment was the source of the fire, but it says investigators are looking into all possibilities. time is 6:15. there are surprising new claims about the man who's young son died after being left in a hot

car in georgia. lewis was sexting with six women while his 22-month-old son was dying in the hot car. one of them was only 17 years old. harris left the toddler strap into a car seat for several hours. harris says he forgot the boy was in the car until after he left work. >> he was saying oh my god. oh my god my son is dead. >> police say once harris found his son dead he made a phone call to someone else instead of 911. police say harris made odd statements as well after the boy's death about being charged with a felony and losing his job. in a couple hours president obama will preside over an independence day citizenship ceremony for members of the military. 25 members of the armed forces representing 15 different countries will take the oath of allegiance at the white house. during the ceremony, the president is expected to pitch his immigration plan. it comes as the southern

california city of march yet that is is bracing for the possibility of more protests this morning. a plane with 140 immigrants from texas is scheduled to arrive in san diego later today. and it's still unclear if the government will try to bus the immigrants to the city of march yet that like they did on tuesday. protestors forced buses with immigrants to leave their town. the government is trying to figure out what to do with more than 52,000 children who have come alone into thest this year. a congressional committee held an emergency hearing in texas yesterday on this issue. bay area congressman eric swalwell and rick perry both raised questions over whether the children should be deported. >> it's a horrible situation. even it's one that breaks your hard when you -- your heart when you see the children. >> allowing them to remain here

will only encourage the next group of individuals to under take this very, very dangerous and life threatening journey. >> right now immediate deportation is not an option. that is because a 2008 law signed by president bush states that any child not from a country that borders the u.s. must be handed over to the department of health and human services. sal off today? i bet he is sleeping in. >> yeah no question about that. lucky sal. as we mentioned -- well sal is off today. but we are still keeping an eye on traffic. as we look at 280 in san jose. maybe ten cars there this morning. a sea of green on the traffic maps. definitely good news if you are heading out today. as you take a look at the toll plaza, take a look at that. normally you would see a line building there. but 8-10 minutes to get you across the bridge.

might be a little busier. at 6:18 here is rosemary. i want to start out with an impressive view of arthur. this time lapse of three hours happen notice how it is moving off toward sea. that is good news here. it is now out of the area. but the outer bands still hammering the east coast for today. not a good day to be on the east coast. we have plenty of fire work displays canceled put on hold. here's the track of the system. right here now and moving up toward the east as we get into saturday. it will rush. you can see along massachusetts. but still very strong winds and very heavy rain reported anywhere from 3-5 inches. and they have a very strong

storm. here as home we have partly crowdie skies and mostly cloudy. we have gray skies inside the bay. along the coast as we get into the morning hours it will peel away. i think for the coast today it will be a little iffy. mostly cloudy skies. ocean beach. perhaps areas like pacifica. the farther south we go the better chance. there is santa cruz. you should break away for the afternoon. but the bigger pressing issue here is when the clouds will roll back in. it's only 8:00 here and the future cast model wants to bring the clouds into san francisco. across into the east bay. so if you are thinking about viewing fire works for the evening, most places looking great. we will be tracking possibility of the low clouds moving in early on for tonight. with partly cloudy skies. for today patchy fog. partly sunny at the coast. it will be a cool to mild day at the coast. in and around the bay a beautiful day. 50s to start the day. 70s for the afternoon. inland areas warming to the

upper 80s and low 90s. it will be mostly sunny and warm for you but again not bad at all. our inland areas will be enjoying 70s with mostly clear skies. for the fire works in san francisco right now we are still calling for partly cloudy skies. it will be a bit cool out there. we will be tracking the fog for you. let's hope the north winds pick up and blow that fog out of the way. the extended forecast. temperatures continuing to climb into your weekend. tomorrow slightly warmer than today. sunday will be the hottest day. we get near 100 degrees on sunday and monday. better check your medicine cabinet because an eye ointment has been recalled. they are recalling 850,000 tubes of an eye care product. it's called muro-128.

and it's an over the counter product to prevent swelling. anyone who has a tube that is asked to return it to the store where it was purchased. over night the chinese government approved a big deal between ibm and lenovo. they plan to sell their service to the chinese giants for $2.3 billion. the deal would effect thousands of ibm workers that have been offered jobs. some say it could even let chinese spies access servers at the pentagon. hundreds of people in napa county are enjoying this holiday back at home. coming up in 20 minutes how fire crews are getting the

all f-35 fighter jets while investigating a runway fire involving one of the jets in florida. on june 23rd pentagon officials say the jet caught fire during takeoff at eggland air force base. no one was hurt and the cause is under investigation. the pentagon says that additional inspections of the f- 35's have been ordered. the planes will only return to the air after a full analysis of engineering data. one member of the latest oakland police academy's graduating class, it was a dream come true. eight-year-old emilio penn has always wanted to be an oakland police officer. he's always dream of the chasing down the bad guys and keeping the city safe. he is seriously ill but yesterday he was made an honorary police officer complete with a baton and badge. >> for him to be part of oakland and part of the police

force is pretremendous. >> because i love oakland. >> emilio has already spent time at the police gun range and went for a ride in the police cruiser. but the most special part was getting a badge with his birthday as his police number. collect material for a long- term art project on the homeless. willie is traveling to 24 cities across the country and buying signs from the homeless. he bought four signs yesterday from people in san francisco who were happy to share their stories and their signs. >> they seem to be exhibited about contributing to this project. and they are of course happy to make some money. >> he says he uses the signs to create larger art exhibits and displays. it's a project called we are all homeless that he started more than 20 years ago. he says he is also producing a

live in the beautiful town of danville where popular fourth of july parade gets under way in a couple of hours. as you can see some people already in their spots. many of them put the chairs there last night. ktvu alex savidge he is out there too. coming up he will have more on what he can expect there as well as some other things going on around the bay area. good morning, thank you for joining us. i'm brian flores in for dave clark. >> yes, you are. good morning, i'm tori campbell in for pam cook. it is 6:31. a quick look at weather. rosemary in for steve. >> it will be a good day. we are looking at mostly sunny skies. at least away from the coast for today. that is where it will remain cloudy and cool. we will have a mix of sunshine. hugging very close up and down the coast this morning. into parts of the east bay. partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. and temperatures will begin to climb as we get into the next hour or so.

on shore breeze through fairfield 22 miles an hour. we will not lose the on shore breeze today. that almost help to keep the afternoon highs in check for our inland cities. meanwhile it also means the coast will remain cool. mostly cloudy 54 at half-moon bay. we have 58 at walnut creek. 50- degrees for exist burg. upper 50s lafayette. and castro valley checking in on the low 50s. for the afternoon today these numbers are a lot like yesterday. very comfortable for most of us. it will be warm inland but not too hot. i expect temperatures will climb a few degrees. the bigger question is will the clouds move into the bay? i will have a look at the future cast model coming up. >> thank you. 6:32. sal off for the holiday. having a well deserved break. here's a live look at the roads. this is highway 24 in lafayette. very light traffic. normally we get a peek at the

commute and it would look heavier. the east shore freeway very light. some people heading along the east shore freeway. and that is all that we have for now. >> all right, thank you. happening today people across the bay area getting ready to celebrate the fourth of july. the big fire works show will happen tonight. many bay area cities have parades from a few hours. alex savidge is live in danville. he has found a spot as well. sitting down there in the chairs. he is talking about the big crowds expected there. >> reporter: hey, brian, i snagged somebody's seat. i hope they don't show up while we are doing this live report. there are thousands of theirs that people lined up last night. many people came out here at 6:00 or so is when they are supposed to come out so they can stake their spot along the parade route that goes through the main drag. and chairs as far as the eye can see this morning. spectators want to make sure

they have a good view of all the floats as they come down here. it will get started in a few hours. this area will be packed with people. the danville parade is considered one of the largest and most popular parades in the bay area. this is what things looked like during last years festivities. the expectation is 40,000 people will be down here to watch the parade today. it codes goes down -- it goes down hearts avenue through the downtown area and of course you want to keep in mind there will be quite a few street closures in this area. most of the streets are open right now but they will be closed down shortly by danville police. the owner of a local bar and restaurant that sits along the parade route tells me tons of people show up from all around the bay area. and they really make this a fun event. >> the energy. i mean flat out. it's a small town feel. modern day. so close to san francisco and everything else. and yet people come in here and

it's just a great atmosphere. >> reporter: and if you can make it down -- and if you can't make it to danville, there is lots of festivities around the bay area this morning. in clayton kids will billion invited to leave the downtown parade at 10:00 this morning. redwood city parade at 10:00. and hercules they have their independence day parade that kicks off at 10:45. and also up in napa their parade gets going at 11:00 this morning. back out here, a live picture in danville this morning. and the area you are looking at is where the floats will begin where the parade begins and many of the floats will be starting right in that area and then working their way here down hearts avenue. and the festivities get under way at 9:00 this morning. this parade lasts about 2.5 hours. as you can see is, most of the chairs are empty with a few exceptions. but we do expect a lot of these seats will be filled shortly.

crews were able to snuff out the flames. this happened on havens court on top of a palm tree. they were able to stop it before it spread. earlier last night oakland fire chief held held a town forum to talk about the problem. more forecasts and police will be out on patrol keeping things in check. >> it would be easier if we were out in the streets and able to spot a fire and have a quicker response verses having someone call it in. >> reporter: people in the oakmore neighborhood say they will be on high alert because an arsonist is on the loose. investigators say half a dozen fires were intentionally set over a four-day stretch in mid june. neighbors are urged to call police if they notice neighbors with any illegal fire works. and chief reed says she hopes her department will serve as an extra deterrent to folks even thinking about setting off fire works. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. right now hurricane arthur

is complicating fourth of july plans up and down the atlantic coast. the stamp made landfall in north carolina. it weakened to a category one hurricane just 25 minutes ago. michelle is live in kill devil hills, north carolina with a look at the condition there is. >> reporter: good morning, brian. hurricane arthur is moving offshore. and good news for those folks that decided to ride out the storm. the storm hit late thursday night as category two hurricane packing winds of more than 100 miles an hour. arthur made landfall near the outer banks. bringing heavy rain and big waves to tourist area. many of the 250,000 visitors expected for this weekend packed up and headed home ahead of arthur's arrival. >> we decided to leave a little bit early. we wanted to not be a part of that hurricane. >> reporter: it started

evacuations of summer camps. >> the evacuation was something we started planning a couple days before it was declared a hurricane. >> reporter: arthur is expected to move up the coastline dumping rain on fourth of july celebrations. officials are advising let dents all along the sea board to keep a close watch on the storm's proimpress. with a risk of wet weather facing fire work shows in several states to be postponed. >> it will put us in a tough position to get the fire works off. >> reporter: that was 21,000 people that lost fire today. they were assessing the damage in the southern part of the

barrier island. get back to their vacation homes as soon as possible. brian. >> reporting live from kill devils hill, north carolina. thank you. the threat of bad weather on the east coast had people in boston celebrating the fourth of july one day early. good song there. the annual boston pops fire works display got moved up a day because of hurricane arthur. and the fire works display came just in time. heavy rain and lightning began to sweep across the state. more rain is expected to continue to fall today. 20 minutes before 7:00. some witnesses say a ten-year- old boy was one of two people hurt in what appeared to be a random firing of a shotgun in san francisco. it happened about 3:30 yesterday afternoon near connecticut and 25th street. police say a man was firing a shotgun from some bushes about

150 yards above that location. two people were shot. a man and a boy. some witnesses say the boy is just ten years old but police will not give his actual age. police say both victims were driven to the hospital. their conditions are unknown. an 11-year-old boy from antioch is recovering this morning after being shot in the chest. according to police, the shooting happened outside the river town place apartments in antioch yesterday morning. the boy's mother and aunt applied pressure to the wound while they waited for help to arrive. the boy was later air lifted to the uc davis medical center. he is expected to survive and police say it's unclear what led up to that shooting. if you are headed to the airport this morning, you might want to know about this. airport security cracking down on cell phones. coming up in 20 minutes the reason why some iphone and galaxy users are getting held up in security lines. especially if they have flights to and from europe. if you plan to barbecue,

6:44. new information about the butts canyon fair burning in napa and lake county. 25 minutes ago cal fire announced fire is 55% contained. the area of land that has burned remains at 4300 acres. all evacuation orders were lifted from last night. >> we brought in 30 extra hand crews just due to the steep terrain and the accessibility. that is what we needed to do to be able to extinguish and contain this fire. >> two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion but they will be okay. they believe a landscaping crew cutting grass may have sparked it. time is 6:45. a major food warning this morning. you might want to check your chicken before you throw it on the grill. foster farms has issued a recall for many of its chicken

wall. you can see from the map it is not causing much of a traffic backup. i do want to mention in terms of public transportation this morning, a lot of the public transportation claiming muni and bart they will be on sunday schedules. 6:48 here's rosemary. another great day in store. i can sum it up by saying today a lot like yesterday. we do have low clouds hugging up against the coastline. we are joined by low clouds over parts of the east bay. a few patches by the north bay. and the farther inland the more sunshine you have this morning. the morning fog clearing to the coastline. i think parts of the coast will remain socked in the entire day. a little cool there. very comfortable for most of us. we have one weak system passing through. and behind it into the weekend a ridge of high pressure will build in and drive our

temperatures up. i will show you that in the extended forecast. again we are looking at a warmer weekend on the way. the low clouds burning away by 10:00 or so. notice all day long sort of hugging the coastline in and out of a mixed sun and clouds through the second half of your day. mostly sunny elsewhere. as we get into the evening hours the forecast models have been pretty consistent with bringing in the low clouds through the gate by about 8:00 or so. so if you think about fire works into san francisco, maybe along the east bay shoreline. this is something to consider. don't cancel your plans just yet. this could change over the course of the day. the northerly winds could pick up and knock the fog out of the way. a mix of sun and clouds this morning. temperatures in the upper 40s and upper 50s. as we get into the noon hour 60 degrees along the coast. 60s and 70s around the bay. low 80s for the warmer areas.

dust storm there. winds gusts up to 50 miles an hour. some 25,000 homes and businesses in the phoenix area were also left without power. phoenix sky harbor airport also had to ground several flights and divert others to neighboring airports. investigators say they now believe a propane tank caused a fire and explosion at an oakland apartment building. the powerful blast shook the building at brighton avenue shortly after 8:00 last night. firefighters say five adults and one child in the building imagined to get out safely. neighbors say it was a terrifying situation. >> the whole house shook on the foundation. it was one hell of a blast. >> there were a few parents that had to run out with their babies. no clothes on. and we went and brought them blankets. >> investigate tars say the ex- - investigators say the explosion came after the owner of the building turned on a propane heater. they say he was trying to exterminate termites. oakland a's fans may be breathing a little easier.

it looks like the team will be staying at the coliseum at least for the next few years. they dropped the opposition to a new stadium lease. the decision came hours after a bomb shell. the a's informed city and county leaders that major league baseball commissioner bud zealic gave them permission to seek a new home. however, this new deal only guarantees the a's will stay in oakland until the end of 2017 and it still must win final approval from both the oakland city council and the alameda county board of supervisors. there were financial fire works at wall street as the dow set an all-time record. the exchange crossed the 17,000 mark for the first time ever just moments after yesterday's opening bell and it stayed
