you. near bird's landing in salono county. unfortunately it appears several homes have been burned. the most dangerous fireworks are the ones considered to be same and sane. they contact for the high -- account for the highest number of injuries around the 4th of july. sparklers burn 1800 degrees and they are responsible for 16% of reported injuried. bottle rockets -- injuries. bottle rockets and others round out the most dangerous. and there are several spots to see fireworks. in san francisco it starts at 9:30 p.m. at peer 39. the fair is putting on a show at 9:45 p.m. and there are shows in other cities. and www.ktvu.com has a complete list of 4th of july events around the bay area.

degrees. that kills the bacteria. use a meat thermometer. john fowler, ktvu channel 2  news. a homeless man is under arrest tonight after an unusual theft of a truck that led to a chase. ktvu's david stevenson is in san francisco where he just got an update on what happened. david? >> reporter: frank. police tell us they got the call at 1:45 p.m. and it began with a man who stole a truck in the mission district. we believe it to be this red truck. he drove into this yard in san francisco and then spotted near a shed that houses items that have been confiscated near homeless camps. a supervisor told him to leave and the man then hot wired one of their trucks and attempted to run over that supervisor. the supervisor wasn't injured

but the suspect rammed three other trucks and a gate escaping from the yard. he ditched the vehicle but returned to try to take another truck. that is when police showed up. they resisted arrest and may be booked on attempted murder and stolen vehicle charges. a spokes woman moments ago described the damage to me here. $100,000, including the vehicles that we mentioned, the shed and a gate as well. unusual circumstance to happen here, closed on the 4th of july. within the last 5 minutes we received pictures showing the damage and we are going to post that on www.ktvu.com within the hour so you can see the damage that was caused this afternoon here in san francisco. reporting live in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. new developments to report in the shooting of a 11-year- old boy.

police say they have arrested a 14-year-old boy saying he shot the victim. he was arrested last night and is in juvenile hall. he was shot in the stomach yesterday and taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition. unclear what happened before the shooting. a grabbed mother was assaulted by stranger outside the casino. her family talked with ktvu's jana katsuyama from outside the hospital and here is the concern they have about safety. jana? >> reporter: this woman didn't think she would spend 4th of july in the hospital but she was just released. she says she was coming out the doors when a man grabbed her. >> reporter: the woman says she was leaving the casino about 8:00 p.m. wednesday night. they had met earlier at the snack bar, assaulted her. >> first thing i know she

grabbing me. put his hand down by shirt. >> he tried to drag her to his car. she fell to the ground. she told her sons by standards and staff helped her. >> she had some guy helping her out and there was blood. >> she was taken to the medical center. she had a concussion, bruises and four fractures on her knee. >> heart breaking. to see her swollen and she has a cast. she will have to be like that for 8 weeks. >> police confirmed they received a call about the assault and sent an officer over to take a report. this afternoon the woman was discharged. >> we don't want her in the hospital right now. we will take her home. >> they home witnesses will contact police. >> not as safe as they think. >> the family says police are

[ music ] >> reporter: american flags and festive floats filled the streets of downtown danville this morning. the annual 4th of july parade is a family tradition for many. >> everybody loves it. >> reporter: on display today all sorts of cool cars, police motorcycles, ladder trucks and a army chopper. plementy to keep the crowds -- plenty to keep the crowds

new at 5:00 p.m. there are only a few places left to buy the safe and sane fireworks. legally. ktvu's rob roth is live in dublin where some people are saying the benefit isn't worth the risk? >> reporter: right. this parking lot is one of a hand full of designated areas where it is legal to set overscale safe and sane -- so- called safe and sane fireworks. a family is school bus about to do that but residents -- is just about to do that but some residents are saying there are no safe and sane fireworks. >> reporter: for many families liking fireworks on the 4th of july is as much a tradition as turkey on thanksgiving. >> reporter: h the lines have been -- the lines have been really busy. five of those. >> reporter: dublin is one of 15 bay area cities where buying

[ indiscernible ] >> reporter: he lived in the hills for 30 years and he is worried about what could happen when fireworks will be going off everywhere. a few years ago fireworks started a fire near his home.

we have breaking news to report out of the east bay. b.a.r.t. closed two stations. the richmond and el cerrito stations are shut down after someone was hit by a train. we know a bus bridge has been set up for b.a.r.t. passengers. as the nation is celebrating its independence today the president welcomed dozens of new citizens the white house. -- citizens to the white house. . >> it is that timeless belief that for many we are one. >> many of the new citizens are active duty military who answered the call of duty while they took steps to become citizens. the president also made a push for immigration reform. he said the government should

be making it easier not more difficult. >> if we want to keep attracting the best and the brightest we will have to fix our immigration system that is broken and pass common sense immigration reform. >> the president's words came as protests continue to break out in california. boarder patrol transported more undocumented immigrants from texas to riverside county today. dozens showed up protesting the federal government's plan to use a boarder patrol station in murrieta in southern california as a place to process detainees. immigration activists believe the obama administration should grant the unaccompanied children asylum. earlier in the week protesters blocked three buses carrying unaccompanied children from the processing facility. the buses were force to detour to san diego county. police are on patrol looking for illegal fireworks.

. complete bay area news coverage continues right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 p.m. back now to our top story. this is turning into a sad holiday in solano county. a fire there destroyed several homes. >> we showed you a live picture 20 minutes ago. ktvu's katy eustis is live there now with late information on what happened and we can see some of the damage there behind you. >> reporter: frank, it is a devastating 4th of july for many families out here in collinsville. the family where the fire started spoke with me a few moments ago and the fire started in a field behind their yard. there is a lot of ammunition out here because this is a community that hunts. the community is also powered by propane tanks so there is a

lot of fuel for this fire. at this point officials tell me 7 structures have been involved. many of those are homes. so there are families out here without a home tonight. red cross is assisting. the fire started around 1:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and quickly whipped. and that was just something popping behind me. the fire is still very active. there are lots of firefighters on scene. again more popping you are hearing behind me. the family just moved type had rent -- moved into the rental home this week and there was controversy with who was going to obtain the rental home so they saw someone in the field earlier in the week. so the fire is being investigated. officials have not called it suspicious but the family says there was nothing out there that should have caught fire. we will check in with investigators and talking to

more of the families affected by the fire. expect more from us in our next live report. katy eustis, ktvu channel 2 news. there will be extra police patrols tonight on this 4th of july because as we know fireworks and drought conditions make for a very dangerous mix and law enforcement is warning if you get caught with illegal fireworks you could get fined up to a thousand dollars and jail time. ktvu's azenith smith joins us live from san jose. bomb technicians could be called out tonight? >> reporter: deputies from the sheriff's office who know how to handle explosives are expected to be out tonight, not to mention san jose police have them on call as well given the drought conditions. >> reporter: all is calm in this neighborhood but last year on 4 4th of july illegal

drivers and -- impaired drivers. the 4th of july has ranked as the deadliest holiday of the year. uber is raising money to help prevent drunk driving. they are joining mothers against drunk driving. they will donate $1 for every ride taken and $10 for every new rider today and tomorrow. and aaa is offering its tippy tow service for drivers who have been drinking and need a ride. the service is for everyone. not just members. the number is on your screen. 1(800)222-4357. it runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. new information tonight the national transportation safety board says the pilot of a small plane that crashed in livermore last month jumped or fell from the plane. the ntsb says the 63-year-old

pilot was flying at a thousand feet when the plane caught fire after taking off from the airport on june 21. according to the report the plane which he built himself from a kit pitched up and crashed into a field. he was not wearing a parachute and his body was found 300 yards from the plane. family and friends gathered to remember the three girls who were killed in the asiana airlines plane crash. they lit candles in their memories. 5 teachers and 29 students were on board the plane that crashed at san francisco international airport last july 6. and last month the ntsb concluded the pilots of over relied on automated systems. as a result they

conditions are absolutely terrible out here. it is hot, dry and as you can tell very windy. not to mention this community is fueled by propane tanks so that is the issues firefighters had to contend with and there are many hunters here so there is a lot of ammunition in the homes that have been popping throughout the afternoon and into this evening. 7 structures have burned so far. all of the people made it out okay. minus some minor burns as they tried to get their things. some pets did not make it out. the fire started in a field behind a home on the far end of town and spread quickly from there. we spoke with the family who lives in that home. >> i go running outside and i see the pfeifer. mom, there is a fire. we need help. we are -- see the fire. mom, there is a fire. we need help. there is a piece
