>> matt: so now brandon crawford with the run in and one away here in the ninth. so not only is that the first blown save by huston street this year, it ends what was the longest active streak in converting save opportunities dating back to last year. street had gone 23 in a row. crawford pops it up. two away. >> eric: again, you get back and look at the inning. one of the things that bud black was talking to us prior to the game and huston street and his success, he doesn't have the overwhelming stuff, but knows how to pitch the ninth, knows how to navigate, who is on deck. that was one of the qualities that, you know, he had mentioned. and really this inning, again, one guy -- one guy is going to beat you and that's the man sitting right there. they let him get him.

will tell you, from trevor hoffman on down, there are those ruts, those hiccups you run into. and you mentioned with romo, it's never been a question of blowing it past anybody. it's never been a question of wondering what's coming. it slider, slider, slider. meaning it has to be fine. and he's not in a phase right now where that's been the case. >> eric: well, and as a hitter, when you get into the box against a guy like romo, there is not a lot of intimidation, not a lot of worry. there's no fear at all. it's you know you're going to get a slider. and there have been a lot of successful closers able it to get by with something like that. i remember rod beck. many years with the giants. again, as you mentioned, he's got to be perfect. can't miss.

discussion on romo's arsenal, somebody out there in tv land was saying, hey, you two. what about mariana rivera, made hall of fame on a cutter. and hoffman with a change-up. >> eric: those guys also -- rivera could get it up there, as well. and back in the day, again, those guys, even with the change-up and -- that cutter just -- that is in a class by itself, that cutter. you can't compare anybody else, a one-pitch guy to mariano rivera, what he was able to do with that pitch. >> matt: fine play by crawford to, for the moment, preserve the night. that ball gets through and san diego is walking the giants off as winners. >> eric: watch romo, tries to kick it.
