city tomorrow. this is the site you will see. interstate280 is back in business. 10 hours early and 280 is open ahead of schedule. debora villalon has what this means for the upcoming deadline. >> reporter: horns are heard after the chp opened the 280 before time at 7:00. not tomorrow morning which caltrans had set up for before. >> reporter: this is where a seismic had to be replaced. doing that work in stages by closing lanes would have caused miles of back up. >> it would take six months so it's better to do exactly what we did. which is close it down, get in,

do the work and get out. >> i got it, i got it. >> reporter: not that it wasn't messy. subcontractors worked the site. southbound over memorial day weekend. that time they finished two hours from the deadline. now they know better. what to expect. it also helps that crews had easy access from underneath the fly over to punch through. >> this is the horror picture. over on the other side that's the south bound freeway. that's the one we did during memorial day. so that's the after. >> i'm glad you know tomorrow morning's commute is going to be a lot better. >> reporter: many drivers used 280 straight shot into the city. on weekdays it carries 60,000 cars in both directions. making some people late. >> people will go for the bar- be-que. there was a big delay there. it did affect us. >> reporter: the next closure

comes labor day weekend when two more hinges will be replaced. it will also impact the northbound lanes. because they were replaced two hinges, caltranss tells us 280 will be closed at least as long as this time maybe longer. one thing caltrans said it had going for it in its favor this time that eased the back up is that the giants were on the road this weekend. but they will have two home games when 280 closes at the end of august. people are headed home this hour as the fourth of july weekend comes to an ends. let's take a look at live traffic. this is the camera near the coliseum looking to 880. now let's take a look at our live camera in berkeley. this is interstate 80, a heavy picture. this is traffic going into san francisco. it is moving that's more than could be set for much of the next day. interstate80 had stop and go

traffic as people were headed home from the holiday. and now more on the fire. a firefighter clearing the fire lane was injured tonight. when a calfire bulldozer overturned. a medical helicopter had to come in and rescue that firefighter who suffered minor injuries. calfire just updated the fire. it's only 30% contained. calfire lifted evacuations just two hours ago for people who live around highway 128. the campgrounds in that area are still closed. calfire is working to try to prevent that fire though from spreading and tonight those crews had some help from bay area firefighters. ktvu's cristina rendon was at the fire scene and she explains the challenge for firefighters hoping to enjoy the weekend. >> reporter: firefighters dropping by air is key to

helping fire crews fighting the fire. the closure of state highway 38 at pleasant valley road forced boaters to turn around friday afternoon. >> we drove an hour and a half and now we have a roadblock. >> reporter: josh and des era e ibage planned for a day in the water. but for crews the monticelo fire is a problem. it has caused two other fire crews to join the fight. mandatory evacuations are main in effect. >> not only are we in steep terrain, but combined with the triple digit figure, low humidity makes it a very challenging environment for firefighters to work aggressively all day and all night. >> reporter: the amount of fire

activity they've seen to date has increased by 70% compared to last year making it all that important to stop these fires quickly. >> we just saw some smoke when we came up the mountain. so we didn't really realize we were going to be closed. >> turn back, if you're headed to lake barriesta it's not good. >> reporter: this roadblock will likely remain there until 7:00 tomorrow morning when calfire reassessing whether or not to let people back into their homes. reporting in yolo county, cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. fire crews made progress on another big fire near lake bariesta. fire crews report that the bus fire is now 48% contained. that's up from 80% just this afternoon. the fire began last tuesday and had burned 4,700 acres. and road closures have been lifted. the cause of that fire is under

investigation. and crews battling both of those fires not only dealing with the flames but also battling the heat. let's check in with our meteorologist mark tamayo for more on the conditions there. >> temperatures have been trending up a bit over the last two or three days especially for this part of the region. temperatures up 100 degrees once again. this was the first fire about five days ago out toward hope valley. this other one developing yesterday out toward the monticello fire. you've been hearing a lot about the very hot temperatures. dry conditions and also the terrain as a huge challenge for the fire crews steep terrain with elevations around 500 to 1,000 to 2,500 feet. that will continue to be a constant fire for all the fire crews in the region. today we topped out at 97 degrees. another hot forecast coming up for tomorrow near the fire

zone. forecast high 92 degrees. in addition to the heat, we're also tracking high clouds. we'll have more on that coming up at 10:35. gunfire locked a 10-mile festival, three people from rival bike clubs. police arrested one man but are on the hunt for others. azenith smith joins us live from the shooting. >> reporter: three victims were flown to bay area hospitals. their conditions are unknown at this hour. this morning, in broad daylight this gas station was a crime scene after two motorcycle groups opened fire. it's considered the largest motorcycle event in the state. bringing upwards of 50,000 bikers together to celebrate the fourth of july holiday. but on its last day, gunfire erupted. >> it's terrible. i mean, you know gives bikers a bad name and stuff too. it's not a good thing to

happen. >> here it is surprising but not shocking. >> reporter: around 10:30, police found three shooting victims and another man assaulted at a chevron gas station a mile and a half from downtown. the shooting stemmed from a fight at the hollister rally the night before between two motorcycle clubs. >> this morning they crossed each other as they did last night. there were some words last night from what we're gathering. this morning when they crossed each other at the gas station, bullets erupted. >> reporter: police arrested one club member last night for a concealed weapons violation. >> it's just bad to see stuff like this. they bring it back after being down for five years. and last year there wasn't as many problems, but still problems. >> reporter: nathan hernandez went to the hollister rally with his family. he was looking forward to seeing the bikes. he says the shooting hasn 't deterred him from coming back

but says this year, he was disappointed. >> if you're going to have that stuff happen, what's the point of having the rally. >> reporter: police have recovered a lot of evidence but will not say if they recovered the weapon or weapons involved. live in hollister, azenith smith. police have yet to make any arrests in a shooting outside of the b.a.r.t. station. it happened last night in the bus zone. the man walked into the station after being shot. investigators say the man's injuries are not life threatening. san francisco police tonight are looking for a missing elderly man who uses a walker. we want to show you now the picture of the 86-year-old man. he's 5'8" tall. a small plane crash claimed the life of three people.

the single engine piper went down along river side county. firefighters say the victims likely died on impact. according to a calfire battalion chief the plane clipped a tree breaking off its ring then fell into a ravine. one witness described what he saw. >> he tried to climb and he was losing power. and he just dove into that mountain. and there was a big, you know, burst of flames like a mushroom cloud of fuel. >> reporter: officials have not released the names of those killed in the accident but initial reports indicate one of those killed was a man from irvine and the other two on board were his relatives. a divided jury will resume deliberations on whether the dodgers are responsible for the beating of fan stow.

the beating left him critically injured. the oakland city council will meet behind closed doors tomorrow to discuss the fate of a 10 year lease deal for the oakland coliseum. major quan says they want to rework the deal. the deal was approved after word that baseball commissioner bud selig would allow the team to move out of oakland if a deal isn't reached. i have never come close to wanting to beat someone up and go at it and that's the way i felt yesterday. >> a bay area woman is upset after a man walked up to her 16- year-old daughter, handed her a card and told her she would be

paid parking on sundays it just got the boot in san francisco. ktvu's allie rasmus sells us about if return of free sunday parking meters and why some are not happy about it. >> reporter: mark conan checks the meter and flashed a thumbs up. sums up how he and many drivers feel about the return of free sunday parking. >> definitely a nice change. >> reporter: change is something church officials at the unitarian church in san francisco no longer have to worry about. churchgoers used to rush out of their services all the time. >> we didn't have any quarters to come out and put into the meters. so they told me to go the walgreens or this little store over here. >> reporter: the city started charging for meters on sunday. about a year later the san francisco municipal transportation agency reversed that decision. >> people who are choosing to live in san francisco are already incurring significance cost to live in this beautiful city. four hours of meters parking on a sunday just felt like an

unnecessary kind of tax. >> reporter: nta spokesman said mayor ed lee pushed for the change to help generate support for a transportation bond this november. the city spans to lose about 11 million in revenue from free sunday parking. bikes, pedestrian and transit group say that lost revenue is a lost opportunity to spend money on pedestrian safety and mass transit improvement. >> this city has a lot of money still, i'm sure we will be okay somehow. >> reporter: meters parking isn't free everywhere in the city and some neighborhoods near fisherman's wharf and near the ballpark on game days you will still have to pay. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. the body was discovered near willow and 11th street last night around 9:00 p.m. police say the victim had visible injuries and investigators are now trying to determine how the victim died and are looking for any witnesses with more information. so far there are no suspects.

off of me. and fortunately the shark released itself. >> robles says because he's a strong swimmer he was able to fight off the shark. but he called this experience frightening. >> i thought that was it. i thought i might be dying. i thought, i just thought this can't be it. you know. >> robles says the fisherman made a horrible decision to keep the shark on the fishing line for so long. fishing for great white sharks is illegal but the authorities at the sea conclude had the the fisherman had done nothing illegal. after the attack the shark swam away and has not been spotted since. >> he's such an amazing amazing thing he survived. fun at the fair interrupts it after a teenage boy is approached by a man soliciting

video is difficult to watch. >> reporter: attorney carrie harper talks about the chilling video that shows a chp officer taking down a woman he encountered walking down i10 and then repeatedly punches he. >> he was seeming like he was trying to kill her. >> reporter: it's unclear why the woman identified as marlen pennet was on the freeway is not important. >> the reason why she was on the freeway does not matter, what happened to her that day, she got beat, she got beat. >> i love my mom. she was brutally beaten by the police. he punched and pound and pounded on her.

temperatures in the 50s. take a look at the maps in the afternoon. the highs from this afternoon. look at 68 in pacifica. all these 90s inland. antioch topped out 98. san jose not as hot but 82. you can see moisture streaming in from the south and from the east approaching the bay area. so those high clouds will continue to move toward the region. i'm sorry for those messy arrows but you get the idea. the clouds moving in from the south and the east. here's a closer inspection. the fog still dense. coast side and right around the bay. these high clouds continue to sweep into the region so those high clouds will be a factor in the monday forecast. current temperatures still showing 70s out there. san jose 65 and san francisco and half-moon bay even sfo in the cooler side in the 50s. for tonight, we do have this, partly cloudy skies, fog near the coast and near the bay. here is our live camera looking toward the bay bridge from the oakland estuary. tomorrow will be hot at the

coastline. tomorrow the giants moving across the bay paying a visit across the bay out toward the a's and you can see partly cloudy skies tomorrow evening. temperatures will be in the upper 60s. the extended we're talking about a bit of a cooling trend. overnight lows first thing tomorrow morning. we're thinking lots of 50s out there and 60s out toward fairfield, concord and livermore. this area of high pressure responsible for the inland heat. drawing in high clouds. we are concerned with at least a slight chance of a few thunderstorms approaching the bay area for tomorrow and into tuesday. the best bet will be to the east. for tomorrow, probably just some high clouds it'll feel humid out there. temperatures inland back up into the 90s. beaches still patchy fog and readings mainly in the 50s. forecast models with thunderstorms chances here in the bay area. definitely a big batch of high clouds moving into the region tomorrow morning. into the afternoon by 5:00 this pattern remains in place as we head into tuesday as well. forecast highs for tomorrow.
