i just tried to wake the neighboring saying, hey there's a big fire. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. we have team coverage of this fire tonight. firefighters weren't taking any chances when a grass fire broke out in fairfield. they quickly called four alarms to try to stop the flames before big winds fanned them out of control. fire temporarily closed highway 12 and forced some people to

evacuate. conditions tonight were good for a big fire. >> reporter: everyone though the grass is mowed it's still dry. that's why firefighters say they took a big approach. neighbors say the smoke was much worse than their cell phone footage shows. at one point the grass fire threatened some 20 homes here on james street. >> police officers came to the door and said to get out. it was scary. very scary. >> reporter: irma handell said she grabbed her purse and her dog. >> neighbors were yelling there's a big fire and everything. after that my husband was out there watering everything. >> reporter: afternoon conditions included wind, high temperatures. that brought help from over one

dozen other departments. 100 firefighters in all. >> it's a very fast moving fire. our concern is having hire that we don't want to lose structures. we don't want anyone hurt. so we're going to throw everything we can at it very quickly to try to put these fires out. >> reporter: 15 acres were burned in all. firefighters say they will look into whether a homeless camp next to this fire played a role. live in fairfield tonight, cara liu. you can see dry parched grass everywhere you look. a few clouds passed over head but the hot sun was beating down on those east bay hills. and this week it's only going to get hotter and drier. mark tamayo has the latest. >> reporter: fire a big concern out there. today we really warmed up those

numbers inland. antioch 99-degree. fairfield where that fire started this afternoon 96 degrees. and things will continue to heat up as we head into your monday. so elevated fire danger. we do not have any red flag warnings. still temperatures inland tomorrow on track to reach the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. very dry once again about 10 to 20%. the winds do pick up a little bit into the afternoon hours right about 10 to 15 miles per hour by midday. i'll be tracking the heat in your monday forecast. we'll pinpoint the area that is will hit the triple digit territory. also tracking a few high clouds. and when it could feel a little muggy around here. that's all coming up at 10:35. you can get all the breaking news information and when those fires break out on ktvu.com. and firefighters are trying to get a handle on a fire that's 15% contained. the bully fire started friday afternoon in the dry wooded

area southwest of redding. now we checked tonight with calfire and so far 4,000 acres have burned. and 18,000 people have being displaced. freddy alexander smoke iii has been arrested for starting the fire. he was working on illegal pot grow when the exhaust from his truck started the fire. and a brawl turn into a shoot out in the parking lot of a commercial area in east sacramento. sheriff deputies say there were 50 to 60 people standing in front of a liquor store and the hooka lounge when two fights broke out. they say several people started firing guns and a 28-year-old man was killed. the victim's friend says he was an innocent bystander just outside smoking a cigarette. another woman said she had just

arrived to celebrate her friend's birthday. >> reporter: five people got hit and they just came from nowhere. luckily we were behind a car and truck so we didn't get hit. >> reporter: deputies are looking into a motive and whether the people involved even knew each other. today we have a sketch of a man accused of harassing and groping a woman as she sat at a park in palo alto. now here's a look at the man accused of groping the women. debora villalon is live today and says police are worried this will happen again. >> reporter: the woman was not hurt but certainly traumatized. fighting the man off over by this bench and now she has helped create a sketch of her attacker. >> it's a nice neighborhood. most of our parks are nice. >> what happened here just before noon on friday wasn't

nice. >> reporter: larry park is tiny and secluded. sandwiched between two trees. a man struck up a conversation with a woman, asked her if she was married and if they could become good friends. she then got up to walk away. he then stuck his arm up her back. women in the neighborhood are glad to get the warning. a middle eastern man 45 to 55 years old, under 5'4" with a pot belly. >> i'm in grad school so i have my summers off. i would be scared.

>> i think it's really unexpected for this neighborhood. it's usually pretty quiet and people know each other. it's such a like a family friendly place it's really surprising. >> we have patrol all around the different parks to make sure it doesn't happen again. >> reporter: the man was seen walking away from the park and police have no other reports of similar incidents but they're taking it seriously. >> with crimes like these. if individuals get away with it a lot of times they progressively get worse and worse. >> reporter: another look now at the suspects sketch. by the way he was wearing a plaid dress shirt, brown pants brown shoes. other people in the park may have seen him but they were gone by the time police arrived. that's because the victim's cell phone wouldn't work here. so she called from home 20 minutes later. anyone who knows the man or saw him here in the park friday is asked to call police. reporting live in palo alto, debora villalon, ktvu channel 2 news. two north bay police

officers were injured during a struggle with a gun carrying shoplifter in santa rosa. santa rosa police responded to a call of a man stealing groceries. they tried to i detain the man who was identified as michael joseph but had quickly turned into a violent struggle. at one point, joseph tried to police. the officers injuries is set to be minor. immigration was a hot topic today on the sunday talk shows. democrats and republicans are deeply divided over the handling of 15,000 illegal minors who crossed the border

since last october. republicans are calling for deep security at the border. >> the children come to flee violence, torture, murder and rape. they're going to continue to come as long as those conditions exist and we don't fix our broken immigration system. this is like a triage if you will. if you have a patient that's bleeding profusely, the first thing you have to do is stop the bleeding. that's why we've been so adamant about securing the border. >> there's a bill that would provide a path for citizenship. the bill though has since stalled in the house. leaving in the nick of time. thousands flee their homes in northern gaza as israel warning

were badly injured when an israeli bombing hit their home. the home now lies in ruins. they claim hamas often hides missells and other weapons in private homes. >> we must understand how our enemy works. who is hiding in the mosques, hamas. who is putting weapons under the hospitals, hamas. >> reporter: again the sirens sounded in telaviv and across much of israel. from gaza over 100 rockets into israel. one rocket traveled over 100 miles. >> israel is being attacked by hundreds of rockets. there's people, 1/3 of their population has got about a 60 second warning. >> reporter: in northern gaza, people heed israel's warning to

leave. this man says hamas ordered them to say but he says he does not answer to hamas. he is sending his family to safer ground and not a moment too soon. >> others find shelter in a school. more than 1,000 in this united nations school itself. the director does all he can to comfort his patients. >> she could be my mother. she's a human. she's not an animal. >> reporter: and in israel, a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured by a rocket attack today just yards from his home. the teen's father says his son begged to leave the house so he could get a haircut. about 2,000 people gathered in los angeles today to show their support for the israeli government. they say right now israeli civilians are living under fire or with a threat of rocket attacks. they say israelis have arrived to defend themselves from those

wildfires at the edge of petaluma road. >> this road is terrible. it's dangerous. >> reporter: laura web says her husband heard tires screeching on the stretch of road early saturday morning. >> then he heard an impact. but it sounded so hard he thought it was another car. >> reporter: it wasn't a car. it was 21-year-old basilio nathan garza jr. who was walking home when a car hit him near the intersection hunter lane. the driver did not stop. >> this was an accident. this turned into a crime when he left the scene. >> the chp says nathan was walking in the traffic lane. the suspect driving right at him. they know he saw nathan because of the skid marks left in the roadway showing he hit his brakes right before the crash. >> the damage to the car is extensive. >> reporter: the chp found the car parked on the street on near by holly avenue. investigators want to talk to

developing news to tell you about in vallejo. that's where we're learning a man with a gun has been shot by police. just about an hour ago at 9:00. according to a camera person on the scene that is where police approached a man who had a gun. at some point shots were fired. and the man was taken to the hospital. there's no word on his condition. sources tell ktvu there had been a shooting on this very same block earlier this evening. a rare collection of military vehicles went up for auction this weekend here in the bay area and it generated millions of the dollars in sales. the auction featured 80 tanks and other military equipment from jack littlefield. the top sale was an 8-ton

personnel carrier for $1.2 million. money from tonight's auction will fund the museum in massachusetts that's where other items from this collection that were not up for bids will be showcased. a single goal sealed the world cup championship for one country. >> germany put up the only score. the game was tied 0-0 until the 113th minute when the ball hit the back of argentina's net. hundreds of people watched the tournament at in san francisco. there were some fans who got a

stocking up. ktvu's azenith smith went to one of the clubs where there's a last minute rush. >> it's about 40 to $50 worth each day and just keeping them into a little safe, like a zombie acopolypse stash. >> reporter: angie is not waiting to stock up her medical marijuana to control her anxiety attacks. >> we're really low. i would say we're at 20% of what we normally have. >> reporter: founder dave hodges is seeing more and more senior citizens and others stocking up. >> we usually limit 2-ounces a day for people to get. at this point anyone who wants to get anything we're helping them out. >> reporter: all afraid of

running out, given new regulations. mayor chuck reed argues that pot clubs have been operating in the city illegally for years and must now pay up. >> we have to stand in front of city hall for the next week, we're also going to be giving away more free recommendations to san jose residents and possibly free reed to san jose residents. >> reporter: so far the collective has gathered 6,300 signatures, but many of those signatures aren't valley. >> i'll have to go to santa cruz or san francisco to try to figure out a way of maybe commuting there. >> reporter: papadon has already received this letter from the city stating it's not in compliance with the zoning code. that said the pot plans to fight it costs tens of thousands of the dollars in litigation. in san jose, azenith smith, ktvu news. more details tonight on that new pot club ordnance. the shops will have to adhere

to tougher regulations including requiring distribution locations to be fully equipped with security cameras and recording systems at all times. medical marijuana must also be locked in vaults and safes and those dispensaries must be secured to prevent unauthorized entry. agents from the napa investigation bureau discovered several remote grow areas were seized. several were off a winery off the feeder road. agents snuck into the area, discovered and destroyed more than 2,800 marijuana plants. that busted water main that -- several retailers including jimmy choo and lacoste were

forced to shut down. the contractor hit an 8-inch water main causing it to burst. no word if those stores will reopen tomorrow. a washington dog at pet food express helped buy more important safety gear for california police dogs. pet food express donated 1500% of pet wash sales to the cover your canine sale fund -- 100% of their proceeds. police also brought their canines to various stores to meet with the public. the money will be used to buy bullet-proof vests, anxiety kits and other equipment. as of about five -- 5:00 they

diagnosed and treated for different cancers. >> i just kept on walking that inspired me for the rest of my life to do this walk. >> reporter: she says with every dollar raised we're one step closer. >> i will continue to do this until i cannot walk anymore. >> reporter: in millvalely, katie utehs. ktvu news. >> on ktvu news you will find more including information on how you can donate. now to that run away jeep that crashed a pool party literally. the driver lost control, drove through a parking lot then plunged the vehicle into the pool in an apartment complex near cleveland. a man diving into the pool at the same time was not hurt. in fact, he helped save the female driver. she was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. police haven't yet said if she will face any charges.

a commercial rocket launched into the space station. the signus space track is on a mission. it includes a type of exercise equipment that resists odor and other science experiment supplies. it should arrive at its destination on wednesday. people in san francisco's richmond district took advantage of today's nice weather during this month's sunday streets event. part of aguelo street was closed to vehicles this afternoon to make room for hundreds of pedestrians. the goal of the event is to give residents more room to walk, bike and run in the area without having to worry about vehicles on the road. local businesses take advantage by setting booths on the

jose. everyone going back up tomorrow. livermore very close to 100 degrees. and san jose back up into the 80s at 86. on the satellite you will see some high clouds approaching the region from the south. the bulk of the fire activity developing down toward southern california. we'll be watching out for that. we will be having more high clouds for your monday. the fog has cleared with more of a northernly flow keeping the fog and clouds to our south. some clouds will redevelop primarily in the immediate coastline. look at these numbers, right now it is 75 degrees in livermore. walnut creek 76. so very warm for the inland spots right now. san jose 67 and santa rosa still pretty mild as well. checking in at 63 degrees. partly cloudy skies and mild conditions. here is our live camera looking out toward the bay bridge. tomorrow will be warm with increasing high clouds as we go into the afternoon hours.

a bit of a drying trend will occur. some 50s to the low to mid-60s. fairly warm out toward antioch. starting out the day 69 degrees. but san francisco and pacifica in the mid-50s. so here's the headline for tomorrow. it'll be warming as an area of high pressure moves in. the high clouds will continue to be on the increase not only for monday but also tuesday. with that moisture moving in it'll feel muggy out there a big humid. look at the evidential temperature change. look at all the high clouds sweeping into the region from the south. you will notice some showers developing out toward the sierra crest we're going to have more cloud move into the region for the second half of monday lasting into tuesday. triple digits out toward vacaville and clear lake. san rafael nine. not that extreme heat but head over the hills you will find
