during this race, and he still was able to manage the high speed. here you hear the fuel pump acting up. >> oh, yeah, that's the fuel pump. >> yeah, definitely. >> yeah. >> now, for something completely different and to the other end of the spectrum, how about something really slow? a toyota prius setting a record. this time the prius going around the famous german racetrack, but what is a prius doing out there? >> i don't know, making a fool of itself? >> it's not about speed, but a fuel economy record. that's what it's known for, for sipping fuel. so 581 miles per gallon, this is a plug-in electric hybrid prius

made a lap around the ring and averaged 581 miles a gallon, keeping an average of 40 miles per hour around the ring. basically, it was much like a typical commute to work. >> wow. does that mean we still have, like, once every six months? >> once every oil change, you also get gas. >> yeah. we should all value life and each and every breath we are allowed to take because things can happen. it can change in a blink of an eye. a moment like that captured on surveillance video in a cafe near sidney, australia. check out the footage. preparing for the lunch rush, and suddenly this happened. >> explosion. >> it was an explosion, a gas line explosion. firefighters believe that gas was leaking from an oven the chef was using to prepare omelets for the lunch rush, and as it leaked, it somehow ignited causing the severe explosion.

7 news spoke to the people who witnessed the event. >> thought it was an earthquake. >> thought it was a shock wave. >> i was on the floor, and the whole place started shaking. >> it was right in their faces. >> it was in their faces. in fact, the two chefs closest to the explosion were burned an had to be taken to the burn center. they are expected to be okay. the majority of the burns to their face, one woman burned on her arm. 7 news spoke to one of the chefs. >> yeah, everyone said i'm lucky, you know, i was just in front of the gas, and it happened in front of me. >> imagine if it happened just a few minutes later in a crowded cafe. >> there were people there, and you can see in the footage people ducking for cover trying to get out of the way. >> in the moment, you have no idea what happened either. is there another explosion coming? how do i get out of here safely? practice makes perfect. we know that. sometimes nerves get in the way.
