a tragedy that transcends borders. >> men, women, children, infants. who had nothing to do with the crisis in ukraine. their deaths are an outrage of unspeakable proportions. in san francisco, a vigil outside the netherland's consulate was organized by local ukrainians who left candles and heartfelt messages of sympathy and solidarity. a 19-year-old with dual u.s. and dutch citizenship. his father thomas shausman lived in san m ateo. the father lived in this menlo park. his grandfather spoke in new jersey today. >> big boy. very lively. and of course now at the moment the whole family is in mourning. >> reporter: he says quinn was headed to bali for a family

crash. tonight aviation experts have yet to seize authority of the wreckage. investigators are trying to do their work in a war zone. >> reporter: trying to analyze what happened to the malaysian airliner is complicated by the fact that they're in a war zone. the sound of missells can be heard in the distance as smoke rose from charred plane part, bodies and luggage. rebel leaders in the area say they do not possess the plane's black box recording devices but they also deny shooting down the plane or even having the capacity to launch sophisticated surface to air missells despite captured recordings which seem to point to rebel involvement. >> yes major, downed the plane just now. a separatist is heard saying. someone else at the crash describes seeing chairs, bodies. are there any weapons he asks.

the last seven years. california's unemployment rate went from 7.6% in may to 7.4% in june. the bay area generally outpace it is rest of the state when it comes to job growth. for june, all bay area counties saw increases for unemployment. solano county the highest unemployment rate at 6.7%. at jobs centers like this one at concord. fewer people have been showing up to search for work which would seem to be a sign that things are getting better. the director says there are real opportunities out there and job seekers seem to be more optimistic. >> i've had more interviews in the past six months than i had in the first year and a half that i had before. >> i do think there's a job out there that's for me i just haven't found it yet. >> reporter: many people who don't have jobs now are looking for better ones or full time work instead of part time.

washington state is on high alert tonight as a massive wildfire burns across 20 counties. the fires now called the carlton complex fire started as four separate fires in central washington about 120 miles east of seattle. winds fan the flames creating a raging wildfire that so far has charred more than 200,000 acres. the blaze has also destroyed about 100 home -- homes and it's still burning out of control at this hour. a wall of fire left massive devastation. >> firefighters were still struggling to save homes when they arrived in pat era s. but the firefighters had already fought the blaze. this was the hardest hit area. we spotted a woman who fell to her knees when she spotted the remnants that were left of her house.

this is video of the suspect on the day of the crime. police say that she robbed the girl outside a store in san francisco's western addition. they say that first she asked the girl for money for the bus then grabbed her arm, stole her money and took off. new information now about an officer involved shooting. the sheriff's office has identified the man who was shot and killed by an officer as andre miller. miller was beating a woman inside a car yesterday afternoon. near the intersection of 168th avenue and east 14th in san leandro. the sheriff's office says after the deputy helped the woman out of the car. miller tried to run over the deputy who then opened fire. the woman was treated for her injuries. investigators say miller and the woman had a history of domestic violence. in stockton, police are now looking for a fourth possible suspect in connection with this week's deadly bank robbery and

shoot out. investigators are now thinking the suspect drove this car. the car was found tonight a few blocks from the bank. earl littler today police released video of the car recorded on wednesday. within an hour there were tips from the public telling them where that car was. after the robbery, one hostage was killed during a massive shoot out. misty holt singh was a mother of two. today her family talk about their heartbreaking loss. maureen naylor today us they also made an unusual request. >> in stockton the grieving family stood today but without the woman who they call the heart of their family. >> what happened to misty is a nightmare. >> reporter: misty holt singh was simply withdrawing money when three robbers took her hostage on wednesday along with three bank employees. today singh's 19-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter recall

they are providing some amusement here at the fair but it's a sobering lesson. debora villalon, ktvu news. a drive home from a birthday party in the south bay ended with a single car accident that killed one person and injured four others. the crash happened about 2:00 this morning in sunny vale on the lawrence expressway raft. the highway control has identified the driver as eduardo jaime jr. the victim was a 30-year-old woman. two more passengers suffered critical injuries. investigators say it appears alcohol and high speed contributed to the accident. a man suspected of targeting elderly people who are asians in a series of burglaries and robberies is behind jail tonight. german woods carried out the crimes in city's china town and japan town neighborhoods. the string of crimes began back in april. woods was booked in charges

firefighters. these new recruits will help push the police department into normal numbers. >> i know how bad oakland needed new firefighters. >> reporter: this is the first time in four years that new recruits have joined oakland's fire department. there's late word tonight that a mystery patient being cared for at san francisco general hospital has finally been identified. the hospital had asked for the public's help. now the sheriff's department says they finally figured it out. they say he lives in san francisco but they are not releasing his name. the man was found on bay shore boulevard. he had no identification on him and the hospital said he was too confused to give them his name. strict new rules have gone into effect in san jose. city hall also started accepting applications from cannabis businesses that intend to comply with the new

regulations and stay open. under new rules businesses must grow their own marijuana and make their own baked goods and candy. they delivered more than 33,000 signatures to city hall. organizers say many pot clubs will need to close if the rules aren't changed. you might say the hip tv show named glee hit a sour note in a courtroom today. britain's high court ruled that the british version of the show has to be renamed. the court said the title violates the trademark of a chain of comedy clubs. twentiethcentury fox was sued by comic enterprises which operating a string of venues called the glee club.

was there. there is word tonight of one more legal action aimed at trying to keep drake's bay oyster company open in point rays. a coalition of marine county businesses has asked for a temporary restraining order to block the closure. the coalition includes several restaurants that use the farmed oysters and the tamales bay. it says it loses 1/4 of a million dollars a year. corporate earnings including a strong report from google helped fuel the gains. a nice day today. it's been pretty chilly around here. we've had lower fire danger because of all the cool weather we've been seeing lots of moist

cool air pushing in our way. also tropical moisture. the last few days and there'll be more again tomorrow. not as many as there were today. there'll be more tomorrow. fog and low clouds are going to push inland tonight. we have a little bit of wind out there right now. not a ton. temperatures are still in the 50s and low 60s. overnight lows tonight are going to end up in the mid-60s in the warmer spots and in the upper 50s. kind of pattern has been very repetitive. temperatures are going to be the warmest of the week. things start to change around a little bit. the high pressure from the southwest is going to start bringing the high tropical clouds. we will see that in the afternoon. makes for a pretty sunset tomorrow. as we head into sunday, more subtropical moisture could lead to a chance of a shower and most certainly will drop our temperature. so saturday warmest day with highs touching on 90 degrees in the hot spots. by sunday temperatures come back down into the 80s.
