investigators say it likely came from gang member whose hide so-called community guns that anyone can use. new at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's cristina rendon is in santa rosa where the discovery and why neighbors are not surprised. >> reporter: this was a letter that was sent home to parents of children that attend the summer camp here in santa rosa explaining how the gun was found under that building on tuesday and police say this isn't the first time gangs are to blame for crimes in this area. >> group of kids playing at a santa rosa summer camp came across a dangerous discovery. the kids found this loaded shotgun and reported it to a staff member. >> they are used to hearing gun shots in this area. >> reporter: this teacher isn't surprised the gun was hiding

and neither are parents. a mother -- [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: says the gang activity and shoot outs run rampant in their neighborhood. he believes gang members left the weapon as a community gun for anyone to use. >> it is easy access, if they need it they have easy access to it. if they are confronted by law enforcement they don't have it on them. >> reporter: last year police found a community gun across the street from the school and now they are trying to trace the owner of this one. [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: she hopes it stays that way. >> the kids hear gun shots. they see drive bys. it is part of being here, which is really sad. >> reporter: the gang prevention task force will be out here talking to kids in the community about doing the right thing like those children who found the gun did when they

reported it. cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. a $50,000 reward is offered to catch a 4th suspect in the stockton bank robbery. authorities are looking for the driver of this black buick that dropped off the three robbers at a bank of the west a week ago yesterday. they took three women hostage, including misty holt-sing and she was shot and killed during a gun battle with police, one of the gunman used her as a human shield. today her sister is asking for anyone with information to help. >> let's take our city back. this is our city. not theirs. take it back. and i thank you for any information you can give. >> two of the robbers died in the shoot out. the surviving suspect is only 19 years old and charged with three counts of murder. new questions about a man

who was shot and killed by police last month, questions about his past and whether he was connected to the deaths of four women. ktvu's ann rubin is live outs the de-- outside the department of public safety as investigators revisit the death of his former girlfriend. >> authorities say three of his previous girlfriends died while dating him and now that a 4th is missing they can't help but see a pattern. >> reporter: she got a job, she moved away, she was alive and well. >> we don't believe those statements were truthful. >> reporter: investigators believe the truth died with him. he was killed during a stand off with police in june. >> we don't have the body. we believe it is a homicide. >> reporter: now they are revisiting old cases. documents show three other women died while dating him. he has a pattern of being present or associated with

dead, white female whose have problems with alcohol. in 2003 a woman had alcohol in her system. in 2005, she diedf ethanol intoxication. 2006 her body was found with a high blood alcohol level. >> any reasonable person will look at four connected missing persons or deaths as suspicious. and we do the same. >> his friend disagreed saying the deaths are a product of bad luck. not bad behavior. >> nobody stood up for him and he needs to be stood up for. >> reporter: authorities say they continue to search for the body but are running out of places to look. >> it will be hard to get closure. you know, you have to feel bad for the family. >> reporter: documents also show he was convicted of being an accessory to murder in the

death of a six-year-old in florida. he was never charged in the other cases. authorities hope with anyone with information will contact the department of public safety. ann rubin, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco could soon pay a widower and his daughter after a city worker killed a wife and mother in september. she was at the park with her baby and dog when she was run over. he was later arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter. ktvu channel 2 news confirmed they reached a settlement of $15.1 million over three years. >> it avoids the heart ache that that kind of case would entail and hopefully enables the family to have some measure of justice and closure. >> the recreation and parks commission signed off on the settlement and it now goes to

the board for approval. after several days of cloudy, unsettled weather it is starting to heat up. some folks were enjoying the sunshine this afternoon. air quality officials are predicting poor air quality tomorrow and that is prompting the first spare the air day in weeks. our chief meteorologist bill martin is here now with a look at what we can expect. >> it was a big warm up from today to yesterday. yesterday's temperatures were in the 80s. today mid-90s. even warmer. these are the current temperatures. 94 antioch. 78 oakland. these temperatures around the bay tomorrow are going to come up and with the increasing temperatures we are looking at an increased fire danger for sure. no red flag warning yet. the fire danger has been layed down. we had a couple brush fires. next couple days fires come

the bolts were holding up. today they gave us an update on how a year of testing has gone so far. ktvu's tom vacar is at construction headquarters in oakland. what were the results? >> reporter: with just a few test remains it appears the bolts are performing and will continue to perform as originally designed. >> that is okay with me. that is good enough for me. >> reporter: he is one of many independent bridge engineers, structure engineers, and others brought into determine the answer to key questions. will the bolts resist big earthquakes and last for 150 years. these experts are a large part of the u.s. and world brain trust on bridge design, engineering, construction and

maintenance. except for the big bolts made in 2008 that failed, the other bolt made in 2006, 2010 and 2013 are performing as designed. >> they are better than the rods that failed. if we keep that in mind we will be able to use those rods. and not worry about them. >> the bolts that did not fail exceed the additional safety margin above the design strength. the review panellal emphasized the bolts will never be suggested to harsh condition -- subjected to the harsh conditions of the tests. >> the threshold is high enough that we think that they are going to -- [ indiscernible ] >> they are not going to fail. >> reporter: all of the tests

a grass fire is now under control. the chp says a tree fell on to power lines there sparking the fire. pg&e says 6400 customers still without power. cal fire responded with water drops. the fire burned 2 acres. just as temperatures climb a place to cool off is off limits due to contaminated water. part of the lake in pleasanton is closed after the water tested positive for e.coli. ktvu's rob roth was there today where some people were upset by

how that warning was handled. >> reporter: people were allowed to swim here but not here. the reason, water tests show the level of e.coli bacteria was so high they closed this southern portion of the beach beginning yesterday afternoon. >> i believal probably should all area be closed off -- i believe probably should all area be closed off. >> reporter: 100 times higher than the health standards. >> we have an issue of concern. >> people could get upset stomachs. >> reporter: bacteria levels next to those waters were not high enough to keep people out but high enough to trigger a health advisory. swimmers said they had no idea

about any of this. there are no signs about health warnings. >> i think there should be more signs and they should let you know when you are coming in. >> the park district says it isn't sure what is causing the spike in e.coli but it expects feces from birds are partially responsible -- partially  responsible. >> they are not hanging out on the longs, now they are at the beach. >> reporter: it is taking water quality samples every day and reporting theme the health department. there have been no reports of anyone getting sick. people are advised not to swallow any of the lake water and shower after swimming. >> i take my kids out of the water. >> reporter: that is what he did. the park district says it is considering treating the water but hasn't yet made a decision but this area of the lake will remain closed till the bacteria levels go down.

a push is underway to amortalize barry bonds. a group of giants fans is trying to raise money for a 8- foot statue. they are calling it barry bronze. they launched a kick starter campaign to raise $60,000. giants ceo told us today a tribute statue is something the team would consider. >> we will look at it. look at ways to honor his great achievements. >> the group behind it says if
