police search on the san mateo bridge. >> they have found the wreckage of the latest international air disaster. what they discovered at the crash site in somali. >> we are live at the fairgrounds where thousands are expected to run with the bulls. ly tell you about the effort to stop the controversial event. good morning. thank you for joining us. i wish we had smell avision because they will be cooking up a little garlic will. that is a live picture in gilroy this morning. it is going to be a wonderful festival but it will be very, very hot. so there is also fire danger as well. we are live in gilroy. tens of thousands of people expected at the annual garlic festival.

coming up janine de la vega is down there. she will talk about the event and the precautions being taken with this very hot weather. higher clouds. also some fog. but if you are heading down to gilroy warm to hot. i really don't i'm hard pressed to go with 100. there are a few high clouds coming in and the fog is taking the turn at the golden gate bridge. i went 80. the record is 82. 1973. i do not think we will set 74. i don't think we will get close to that. some of that fog right there. a little thin layer of that is moving up the coast. they will not be hot. 60s on the temps. 50s and 60s for some. 62sfo. 62 also atson ho -- san jose.

some very warm air aloft. any fog is very shallow. inland temps they are very shallow. patchy fog, coast. and also in the city and a few high clouds making for a very nice sunrise. temperatures anywhere from 60s. here is sal. all right. right now we are looking at -- i have to look at information on the screen to tell you what the latest is. i do know that we did have a hit and run crash. you can see the flashing lights up there. this happened about 25-30 minutes ago. one car hit another and then that car did not stop. three juveniles according to witness reports jumped off and ran off. one person had a gun. this has been turn into a

police search. it's even causing slow traffic. westbound 92 this is really off the table for you. i would not recommend using the san mateo bridge. go to the dumbarton bridge or think about using the bay bridge. let's take a live look at that. the bay bridge looks okay. a 20 minute delay getting into san francisco from here. 20 minute drive time. i just wouldn't use the san mateo bridge because there it will be caught in traffic. they are even calling more law enforcement to that span. so i don't think it will get better any time soon. let's talk about livermore and dublin where some of the slow traffic is building coming into the valley. traffic is moderately heavy. it gets better by the time you reach castro valley. if you are driving on the peninsula to the south bay, 101 does look good. let's go back to the desk. firefighters will be on alert today with 100 degrees forecast in many areas and the south bay thousands of people will brave the heat to attend this years gilroy garlic

festival. ha is where janine de la vega is talking about the precautions being taken. janine. pam, it is 61 degrees here. you can see that on my phone. but here inside gourmet alley right behind me it is a lot hotter. you can see the flames. i am standing back. i'm told by the pyro chef that has been doing this for 35 years it is -- in his pan it gets close to 35-degrees. they are cooking all things garlic. they have to be careful. they have got to keep cool. that is a concern here for cal firefighters in the area. temperatures are expected to hover near 100 today. at the garlic festival they

have rv's parked in the field. it's being closely watched. festival organizers are expecting more than 100,000 people to attend the three day event. they have several things in place to keep people cool. >> we have a beautiful venue out here with lots of trees and shade. we have half a dozen really large shade canopies with picnic tables under them. we have a couple rain rooms. >> reporter: can you keep it on? there will be emergency crews on staff as well as bike teams that can go and help anyone. they are encouraging people to drink lots of water. they even have a couple free water stations here. they want to make sure everyone stays safe. one side of christmas hill park has lots of large trees. back out here live again they say you know sometimes they have to take a break just after

doing three or four pans. it gets heavy to hold but again it also gets really hot back here. gates open at 10:00 a.m.. reporting live from gilroy, janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. time is 6:05. new this morning french forces say they have secured the sight in the african nation of maui with a passenger jet went down. it was flying through a thunderstorm when it crashed. cnn is reporting the french forces recovered at least one of the black boxes but there with no survivors. 116 people were on that plane. more bodies from flight 17 will arrive today in the netherlands. in the meantime there is very little progress in the investigation into who shot down that plane. armed russian separatists have not allowed them free access to the crash site. right now there is no one examing or securing the

evidence. a group of monitors that did go to the site, they saw remains of victims still scattered there. >> human remains for the second day in a row. >> officials say it will take days or weeks to identify all of the remains that were sent to the netherlands. fair goers will see extra police on patrol. on nights and weekends up to 60 private security guards and 18 uniformed officers will be on duty. the fair opened yesterday and will stay open through august 10th. police in santa rosa believe a loaded shotgun found by children on an elementary school campus was a community gun hidden and shared by gang member member. that shotgun was found while

to run in the event tomorrow. the petition was organized by animal rights organization peta. it climb claims the bull run is cruel. the local petition urges leaders to cancel or modify the event. the same effort worked in southern california where a great bull run was moved. we spoke with organizers ahead of this weekend's run. they deny any cruelty. >> at each event there are 5-10 animal rights activists petitions outside. >> there is expected to be about a dozen bulls this weekend. you are looking at video from the great bull run. tomorrow's run will start at 11:00 and will be held at the racetrack. there will also be a tomato

the foster city side of the bridge. the police activity and also the broken down car causing some slow traffic on that span. we will give you an alternate coming up. time is 6:13. police in long beach say an 80- year-old man who shot and killed a pregnant woman claims that woman was ransacking his house. this happened tuesday night. police say the man came home, he said he saw a man and woman going through his things. he says hi tried to tackle the couple 37 then the man says he grabbed his gun and shot the woman who screamed don't shoot me, i'm pregnant. police are trying to figure out if that 80-year-old man fired those shots in self-defense. a keynote speaker at a san jose state university graduation ceremony has filed an excessive force complaint against san jose police. nathaniel howard says officers beat him and threw him to the ground just hours after he spoke at a graduation ceremony in may. cell phone video captured some

of that confrontation outside of a downtown san jose nightclub. howard says it happened after he questioned the police officers that were citing his friend for urinating in public. the san jose police union has herb ewed this response. quote, simple, clear, and reasonable commands from a police officer should always be followed. it is always unfortunate when those commands are not followed. and it puts police officers in potential danger. time is 6:15. a woman that works as a therapist for blind military veterans in san francisco may now sue to force a man to get out of her condo. corey says she wanted to make extra money by renting out her condo in palm springs. when she turned to air b & b to rent out that unit for 44 days. now she says the tenant a man named maxine was refusing to leave. >> her b & b is extremely popular but it's really up to

follow. >> yeah he does. >> i think the commute is not doing very well. let's go to news chopper 2. let's go to the bridge here. it looks like part is almost empty. that looks like the customer is not getting through. a hit and run collision. one of the cars drove off. tow truck is there attending to one of the vehicles that was left behind. but more importantly there is police activity on the foster side of the bridge. one of them had a gun as you might imagine. very important that you find these men and they are look in the area of the bridge point shopping center in foster city. the traffic has improved.

i want to show you the maps of the area. the road sensors are much different. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. you may want to think of reading that. it's a 2025 minute drive into san francisco. nothing heavier than usual. wrapping back around and toward the san mateo and santa cruz coast. the record is 82. so it will be close today if all falls into place here. average high low 66 and 64.

a little cooler over the weekend. we will see what we call a little southerly surge point. today the fire danger is out there. especially away from the coast. it will be heating up. patchy fog coast a little bit in the city and a few high clouds. over all 60s to near 100 degrees. i mean just penciled in fairfield, antioch, everyone will be close. san rafael 94. east san jose will be closer to 96. mostly sunny but i think the fog is on the way back here by sunday. and then we will see temperatures sliding back. the international monetary fund is downgrading its forecast for the year. to grow 3.4% for all of 2014 but it is down from its april forecast. new report that google is buying a video game service called twitch for $1 billion.

we are following breaking news. traffic has improved on the san mateo bridge. chp is looking for four suspects in a hit and run crash that happened on a span about an hour ago. news chopper 2 is showing us live pictures of the scene. the driver of the other car suffered minor injuries. he was in this car here. it is being hooked up to a tow truck. the foster city police and other police agencies. we are heading to the scene. we will continue to follow this story. you can see still obviously a small scene on the san mateo bridge.

an innocent bystander in all of this. he was hit in the leg. he was awake and talking as paramedics took him to the hospital. he is expected to be okay. that teenager he just finished playing a game of basketball last night when the gunfire began and this young man got caught. this happened about 7:00 last night. mismoved in. the diamond was crisscross with crime scene tape. there was shell casings covering the field. there were two groups of people shooting back and forth. the others were standing in the park and police say the boy was hit by gunfire as he was standing and walking on the other side of the park. he was not the intended target in all of this. one mother we talked to that lives near the park says she is

frustrated by the violence and has this message for the shooters that put innocent lives at risk. >> they need to stop. it is really not worth it. >> reporter: police don't know what led up to the dispout last night that prompted the gunfire but investigators are working some promising leads as they try to make arrests here. already police say they have found the car involved in last nights shootout abandoned nearby that park. this morning we have reached out to oakland police. we will certainly let you know when we learn anything new from investigators. that 1-year-old boy that -- that 17-year-old boy that was shot he was taken to the hospital and he should make a full recovery. live in oakland alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news.

san jose police are investigating a late night fight. that is where five men that were stabbed or beaten were found. they were rushed to local hospitals. one of the victims has life threatening injuries. the investigation continues and so far there have been no arrests. one person was detained by police over night after a crash in oakland involving three cars. it happened on interstate 880 near franklin street just after 11 crank last night. our ktvu roof camera captured the aftermath. a number of emergency vehicles responded. one person from one of the cars was detained. the other people fled the scene but it's unclear why. no one was hurt but it did take crews about an hour to reopen the lanes. the oakland police department launching. throughout the day officers will be patrolling areas popular with motorcyclists and areas where motorcycle crashes

demonstrators threw rocks and molotov cocktails at the israeli soldiers that tried to break up the crowds by firing tear gas. palestinians say more than 800 palestinians have died in recent fight including 16 people killed in a blast at a u.n. evacuation shelter. here in the bay area people rallied at the federal building in oakland. there is hope in the middle east that a truce can be reached a festival scheduled next week that will conclude the muslim's holy month of ramadan. you may notice the police presence at san jose state university. the police are holding an active shooter test. they require the training to be

held on each of its campuses every five years. the library will be closed until 1:30 this afternoon. a professor at san francisco state university is facing serious charges. he is accused of secretly video taping his students while he uses the bathroom. he allegedly video taped more than a dozen, current, and former students. prosecutors say landis hosted students at his home but one day a student found a surveillance camera in a bathroomdisguised as a tissue box. >> it was pointed in a way that when they used the fertilities it would -- facilities it would be pointed at their genital. >> i think he should be punished to the full extent of the law. >> he taught accounting at sf state from 2006 until last friday. students that believe they may

have been victimized are being offered counseling. livermore soccer coach accused of molesting a child at a summer camp. the contra costa times reports jesse slicker has been charged with committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 14. he was arrested while working as a speed and strength coach. no details are being released about the victim but slicker has been released on bail. hundreds of workers at the two macy's stores in san francisco are threatening to go on strike. workers at the stores in stones town shopping center they are union workers and they have authorized a strike. they are angry the store wants to put a cap on commissions earned by current employees. they say new employees would not get any commission add all. macy's says it is preparing for a possible strike but hope to continue negotiations. it is 6:39. a chilling discovery. a group of kids found fully loaded gun on an elementary

firefighters will be on high alert with the 100-degree temperatures forecast in some areas. one of the hot spots will be the gilroy festival. that is where janine de la vega is talking about festival and the precautions being taken. >> reporter: right now it's comfortable. it is 60 degrees. the temperatures will go a lot higher today. we are here where you see behind me this is kevin. he is one of the pyro chefs. that pan can get close to 500 degrees. he's having fun here with oil splattering everywhere. he is cooking up calamari. they have to be pretty careful and drink lots of water when they are behind the pans cooking because it gets quite hot. it will get quite hot almost near 100 degrees. i want to tell you what cal fire is doing to take precautions. this is a concern here for firefighters in the area. the heat. and all the dry brush.

person that was hit noticed that the four people in the other car did not stop but continued on to the bridge. we may have video of this. this is video of the car that was eventually stopped west of the bridge on one of the pullouts. he had a flat tire but kept going. four young men got out and ran away. and police are looking for them. that is how police describe them. this here is the car that was hit on the bridge. that person driving the car complained of minor back pain. is no major injuries. for awhile traffic on the bridge was bad until they got the vehicles off the span. let's move along and take a live look at the bay bridge. it is backed up for a 15 minute drive into san francisco. i want to mention we have lighter than usual traffic on 580 livermore this morning. i think that will be a welcome surprise. a little bit of slowing get into the main part of livermore and after that it is moderate
