this is the homestead exit. they shouldn't be going this way because this is the wrong direction. they are sending them back up cloever leaf to get -- cloverleaf to get them on the freeway. this is the power line that's down. this is a view from our chopper, where you can see this traffic nightmare here in the middle of the morning commute. northbound 85 is completely shut down. so is southbound 85 as i just showed you this traffic diversion. this is all due to a fire that occurred in the area. we hear that a power pole caught fire. i'm not sure if you can see that from your shot. my cameraman here on the ground, we can actually see it from where we're standing. you can see the bottom of that power pole is completely blackened. we did see some firefighters there on the overpass, not sure where they went. if you look underneath the overpass. you can see the wire that's hanging across the lanes of
7:06 am
traffic. i do spot the fire engine back in the distance. at this point, the last i was told was those are live wires. so a potentially dangerous situation, which is why they are trying to get all of the traffic off the freeway. we're told that a spokesman from the chp is on his way to tell us more. but again, all of 85 northbound and southbound traffic is closed from 280 to the fremont exit because of these downed power lines. we will stay on top of this situation and let you know how it goes as the morning goes on. at this point, we don't have an estimated time of when the freeway is gonna open up. reporting live from sunnyvale, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. a story we'll stay on top of throughout the morning here. thank you. also we're following developing news in livermore where produce has spilled over part of westbound 580. ktvu's tara moriarty is live with more on what caused the crash and the huge backup that

estimating 50,000 pounds of produce, collided with that truck, knocked it in the fast lane and the big rig struck the guardrail and went over. >> reporter: the chp says the pickup truck driver could have been killed if he had stayed in his vehicle. it's a good thing he got out. let's take a look at aerials. this backup has gotten worse. it now extends all the way into tracy to north mckaur there drive. the highway patrol estimates that it will take crews until 8:00 this morning at least to get all of this cleaned up. we actually think it may take longer than that because they still have to upright the rig. if you need to take 580 westbound across the altamont pass, definitely give yourself extra time because as you can see, there are actually -- one of these lanes just reopened. now there's three lanes. hopefully, this will help the situation. one lane closed at the moment.
